Ex- Lipool star details behind Jurgen Klopp’s ‘Will you shut the f*ck up!’

James Milner has shared an anecdote about a time he found himself on the wrong side of Jurgen Klopp, resulting in the Liverpool manager instructing him to “shut the f*ck up.”

The former Reds player, who spent eight years at Anfield before joining Brighton in the summer of 2023, was a favourite figure under Klopp.

Throughout his 332 appearances for Liverpool, Milner’s versatility proved invaluable as he secured honours in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.

Despite his success, Milner acknowledges that special treatment from Klopp was not always guaranteed.

Milner has told the High Performance podcast of incurring Klopp’s wrath: “He was pretty good most of the time; he was open. Maybe not at half time; we had one occasion where he was sharing his thoughts and I was sharing mine and I remember him smashing his hands down on the table like, ‘will you shut the f*ck up?!’ But Jurgen was brilliant. I had a great relationship with him off the field as well; he supported our charity (the James Milner Foundation) as well.”

Milner went on to say of what makes Klopp such a great manager, with the German tactician earning legend status at Anfield: “An amazing manager but I always felt like most of the time he was open and even if he didn’t feel like the conversation, he gave you stuff back so you felt like he’d thought about it afterwards.

“Even if he didn’t tell you that, you’d see it with the things he did after and I felt like he was good at taking things on board. He’s a leader; he makes the decisions, but if you’ve put something in his head and it’s helped, he was pretty good at listening to things like that. I saw him change a lot in the time I was there.”

Jurgen Klopp is currently under contract with Liverpool until 2026.

He has indicated that he plans to step down at the conclusion of that contract.

By then, he will have devoted more than a decade to the club, and the stresses of coaching in the Premier League will likely prompt him to take a well-deserved break.

  • Mac Allister explains Pep-Darwin Nunez exchange after Liverpool-City clash

Mac Allister explains Pep-Darwin Nunez exchange after Liverpool-City clash

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has disclosed that the altercation between teammate Darwin Nunez and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola originated as a lighthearted joke that escalated quickly.

Following last month’s 1-1 draw between the two sides, tempers flared, prompting Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool staff to intervene.

Guardiola downplayed the incident, stating that “nothing happened.” Mac Allister, in an interview with Clank!, provides insight into the sequence of events that led to the heated exchange between Nunez and Guardiola.

“As Jurgen said, they are two very emotional people, both Pep and Darwin, and it was nothing,” Mac Allister said. “Some comment that Pep made, Darwin responded to it, but it wasn’t anything out of this world.

“And that’s why I was laughing too. If I see how serious it is, obviously I wouldn’t laugh in that way. But nothing made me laugh a little, like how Darwin got angry so quickly.

“And apart from that, at the beginning, Pep thought he was doing everything like a joke, and of course Darwin was with him. It had transformed his face a little, then.

“It was kind of a little funny, the whole situation, but those are things that stay there. I think they both respect each other a lot, and nothing was wrong at that moment.”

The Liverpool midfielder continued: “I don’t know if I should tell [what caused it] but I’m going to tell you. Basically, they had a situation.

“I don’t know if it was a corner or a cross that [Erling] Haaland headed and the ball went past the goal next to the post. Pep turned around and started saying how lucky we are or something like that.

“Then it goes to the last bit of play, the ball is crossed into the middle and Lucho Diaz wants to head it and they save it. So then Darwin tells [Guardiola], ‘Ah, now you are the ones who are lucky’.

“From there, everything went to s**t. But it was very calm. Nothing serious.”

  • Liverpool qualify for Europa League knockout stages after LASK victory

Liverpool qualify for Europa League knockout stages after LASK victory

Liverpool secured their place in the knockout stages as Group E winners after earning three points at Anfield, coupled with Toulouse’s home draw against Union SG.

The Reds, making nine changes to their starting lineup, demonstrated their dominance against LASK. An opening goal from Luis Diaz, followed by a brace from Cody Gakpo and a Mohamed Salah penalty, sealed the victory against the Austrian Bundesliga side.

In the 12th minute, Diaz orchestrated the opener, delivering a precise cross to Joe Gomez, who headed the ball into the net. Just three minutes later, Diaz combined with Salah, providing an assist for Gakpo, who capitalized inside the six-yard box.

Despite LASK’s attempts to respond, Liverpool’s defense held firm, limiting their opponent’s breakthroughs. In the second half, Salah converted a penalty after Gakpo was fouled, extending Liverpool’s lead.

While Liverpool couldn’t find the net again before halftime, they continued to press, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Nunez, and Curtis Jones introduced from the bench.

Gakpo almost added a fourth, striking the post, and LASK had their chances, but Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, made crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Liverpool had the final say with Gakpo securing his second goal in added time, emphatically sealing the victory. The result ensured Liverpool’s progression to the knockout stages as leaders of Group E.

  • Pitch evaders mob Salah during Egypt-Sierra Leone World Cup qualifiers; Egypt calls for calm

Egypt’s management team has addressed concerns over Mohamed Salah’s safety following a pitch invasion during Egypt’s World Cup qualifying game against Sierra Leone.

Fortunately, the Liverpool star emerged unharmed, as security prevented the intruders from reaching him. The Pharaohs secured a 2-0 victory, with Trezeguet scoring both goals.

The military escorted Salah off the field.

A day later, the Egyptian team management assured fans and Liverpool that the incident was not serious.

They explained that the pitch invaders were passionate Premier League followers and emphasised that many people in Sierra Leone are fans of Liverpool or Arsenal. Seeing Salah and Mohamed Elneny play in their home country was considered a rare and exciting experience for them.

Speaking to The Athletic, the team manager for the Egypt national team, Mohamed Ghoraba said: “The story of it being an assault is not there at all. Here, the people are very kind and they support Liverpool or Arsenal.

“For them, Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Elneny are icons, so their presence in the country is something they wish to happen again. For them, that’s the only opportunity to have Salah play in their ground, so it’s normal like any fan enter the pitch.”

The Liverpool star is in excellent form this season, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 12 Premier League appearances.

He is currently only three goals behind Manchester City’s prolific scorer Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot. The 31-year-old will be back in action against Manchester City in the league on Saturday.

  • Haaland has a bizzare lifestyle, Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai says ‘the guy is a bit sick’

Haaland has a bizzare lifestyle, Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai says ‘the guy is a bit sick’

Erling Haaland’s unconventional off-field habits have been described as “a bit sick” by Dominik Szoboszlai, who admits he doesn’t follow the advice of the Norwegian striker.

Manchester City star Haaland has made it clear that he doesn’t conform to typical lifestyle rules when he’s not on the field.

The 23-year-old forward had a remarkable season last year, scoring 52 goals and finishing as the runner-up in the 2023 Ballon d’Or voting.

He has openly discussed his unique diet and practises, such as wearing special glasses and using mouth tape, to enhance his sleep quality.

Szoboszlai, who is now in the Premier League at Liverpool, experienced Haaland’s unusual behaviour up close during their time together at Red Bull Salzburg and has told Fodball of how the larger-than-life Norway international breaks the mould: “When we played in Salzburg, I meditated with [Haaland] two or three times because we were in the same room and at first I looked stupid and then I got in.

“He had a pair of glasses that he wore, and I used them for a while because he said they would make me sleep better and sleepy faster, but if I had, I would wear them now. It didn’t help me, but maybe it’s because I didn’t believe in them as much as he did, but that’s everyone’s own business. He does a lot of things that people probably don’t know, but I’ve been to his apartment. The guy is a bit sick.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fj_ox22Gzuw

Hungarian midfielder Szoboszlai is now looking to take inspiration from Mohamed Salah at Anfield, with the Egyptian superstar proving to be a better role model. He added, “I talked to [Salah] a lot because I was interested in how he saw things. He didn’t do [meditation] until he was about 28 years old, then he decided not to eat pasta or bread; basically, he doesn’t drink alcohol.

He’s been doing this since then, and if there’s training at noon, he’s already in the gym at 10.30. I don’t judge anyone; everyone can do whatever they want.”

Szoboszlai has made a positive impact at Liverpool on the back of his 2023 transfer to England, while Haaland has hit 13 goals through 16 appearances for City this season, but he did pick up a knock during his latest Premier League outing against Bournemouth.

  • Liverpool draw away at Luton thanks to late equaliser from Luis Diaz

Liverpool draw away at Luton thanks to late equaliser from Luis Diaz

In a Premier League match on a Sunday afternoon, Luis Diaz scored a crucial goal in injury time, salvaging a 1-1 draw for Liverpool against Luton Town.

Diaz, a Colombian forward, came off the bench and headed in a cross from Harvey Elliott in the 95th minute, securing a valuable point for the Reds at Kenilworth Road.

The game witnessed an open start, with both teams exchanging early attempts on goal. Ross Barkley tested Alisson Becker with a shot for Luton, while Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez had an effort saved by Thomas Kaminski. Nunez was unlucky as his subsequent shot hit the crossbar and went over after a well-executed first touch from a Trent Alexander-Arnold pass.

Both Issa Kabore and Mohamed Salah missed scoring opportunities from close range as the end-to-end nature of the match continued. Liverpool gradually gained control as the first half progressed, and a strong run by Ryan Gravenberch created a chance for Diogo Jota, whose shot was saved by Kaminski.

However, it was Luton that had the final opportunity of the first half, with Barkley firing over the crossbar from outside the box after a partially cleared cross.

The second half started with little goalmouth action, but Alisson had to be alert to collect a low cross from Kabore that was just out of reach for Carlton Morris. Alexander-Arnold fired a long-range shot over the bar, and Luton crafted their best chance so far.

Chiedozie Ogbene dribbled past a couple of defenders and entered the box, with the ball eventually reaching Morris, who was denied by Alisson from close range.

Liverpool’s substitutes combined, with Cody Gakpo’s acrobatic attempt narrowly missing the target after a cross from Elliott. Nunez missed a great chance inside the six-yard box after Salah headed a delivery from Alexander-Arnold back across the goal. Nunez then forced a save from Kaminski following a breakaway.

Kaminski made an important save, tipping a bending effort from Gravenberch behind, but Luton’s counter-attack from the resulting corner resulted in the opening goal. Kabore delivered a cross from the right, and Chong poked the ball into the net.

Liverpool showed resilience after falling behind, and Diaz rose above his marker at the back post, nodding the ball beyond Kaminski to level the score at 1-1.

In the final moments of the match, Alisson made a crucial save, denying Kabore to ensure Liverpool left with a share of the points.

Luis Diaz conquers adversity, secures late equalizer to save the Reds from defeat against Luton Town

Luis Diaz, the Colombian forward, displayed remarkable mental strength, overcoming the ordeal of his father’s kidnapping.

Liverpool managed a late comeback, securing a 1-1 draw against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Liverpool squandered 23 goal-scoring opportunities, with Darwin Nunez having an unfortunate evening, including a glaring open-goal miss.

Luton seemed to take advantage of Liverpool’s wastefulness when former Manchester United youth player Tahith Chong scored from a sharp counter-attack with 10 minutes left.

In response, Luis Diaz was substituted onto the pitch, and in the fifth minute of injury time, he rewarded his manager’s trust by scoring a header from Harvey Elliott’s cross.

Diaz celebrated the goal by revealing an undershirt bearing the message “Freedom for Papa,” in reference to his father’s kidnapping in Colombia.

The Brazilian had a quiet first half but commanded his area well to collect crosses in the second. Could do nothing about the Luton goal.

    Trent Alexander-Arnold (7/10):

Once again, he dazzled with passing vision and technique and was unlucky not to get an assist when Nunez smacked the crossbar after latching onto his superb through ball. Struggled to contain Chiedozie Ogbene.

    Ibrahima Konate (6/10):

I made a few silly fouls in the first half but escaped a booking. I came close with a late header.

    Virgil van Dijk (6/10):

Little to do defensively and made himself a nuisance by attacking set pieces. Caught up the pitch when Luton countered and scored.

    Joe Gomez (6/10):

I didn’t really put a foot wrong but I contributed little to the attack. Withdrawn for Tsimikas with 25 minutes left.

  • Liverpool optimistic 6 years talks for Mbappe move can be possible

Liverpool optimistic 6 years talks for Mbappe move can be possible

Liverpool reportedly maintains hope of completing a surprising move for Kylian Mbappe, even after six years of ongoing talks with his representatives, as indicated by French reports.

Mbappe’s future with PSG remains uncertain following his rejection of a contract extension earlier this summer, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

While Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal made a world-record bid of £257 million for Mbappe, the player showed no interest in making the move.

Initially, Real Madrid appeared to be the most likely destination for the 2018 World Cup winner, who was briefly sidelined to play with PSG’s B-team.

Following the summer departures of Neymar and Lionel Messi, Mbappe has returned and made a significant impact, scoring 12 goals in as many matches. However, with his contract entering its final six months and no new deal signed, a transfer away seems increasingly likely.

According to L’Equipe, while the possibility of a contract renewal is not ruled out, Liverpool is one of the clubs looking to take advantage of the situation.

The Reds had attempted to sign Mbappe in 2017 before he joined PSG from Monaco, and it’s reported that Jurgen Klopp had met with the player for talks. Their communication has apparently continued since then, but Real Madrid is seen as the frontrunner in the race to sign the attacker.

Mbappe’s situation took an additional twist with the news that he may have to remove his own mother as his agent due to a new FIFA rule.

    Mbappe with his mom

Lamari, his mother, lacks the necessary licence to be a registered agent, and she cannot represent players in negotiating contracts and collecting payments for her involvement in deals.

She won’t be eligible to obtain the required licence until May 2024, and she must pass an exam. Continuing to act as Mbappe’s representative could lead to both of them facing a substantial fine and potentially reporting to FIFA.

Kidnappers of Liverpool’s Diaz’s father issues statement; have this to tell Columbian govt

The father of Liverpool forward Luis Diaz, Luis Manuel, is expected to be released by his kidnappers following a statement issued on Thursday.

The Colombian government disclosed that the captors of Luis Manuel are members of the militant insurgency group known as the National Liberation Army (ELN).

Later in the day, a representative from the ELN confirmed that Diaz’s father’s release was imminent.

In the video clip, ELN member Juan Carlos Cuellar said that Luis Manuel would be released “as soon as possible”, which is a significant development in the case.

The ELN, a formidable insurgent group in Colombia, was established in 1964 and remains influential.

They had previously agreed to a ceasefire with the Colombian government in August, aiming to work towards peace.

However, the Interior Minister, Luis Fernando Velasco, stated on Thursday that this ceasefire had been breached due to a kidnapping incident, which led to the ELN’s response in a video message.

Diaz’s father was abducted on a Sunday, along with his mother, Cilenis Marulanda, by armed individuals on motorcycles.

Marulanda was released after a few hours, but Luis Manuel has been missing ever since.

There are concerns that he might have been taken across the border into Venezuela.

As a result of this distressing situation, Diaz was absent from Liverpool’s last two matches. Nevertheless, his teammates paid tribute to him in their 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest last Sunday.

Liverpool’s Díaz’s parents abducted in Colombia, mother rescued, search on for father

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Saturday that the mother of Colombian and Liverpool player Luis Díaz had been successfully rescued following her kidnapping in northern Colombia.

However, efforts were still underway to locate his missing father.

The Colombian attorney general’s office had previously formed a team of investigators to conduct a search for the couple in Barrancas, a municipality located in Colombia’s northern La Guajira province.

The National Police verified the successful rescue of Díaz’s mother, Cilenis Marulanda, and reported that she had a conversation with Director William Rene Salamanca.

In a video message, Salamanca emphasised that all available resources were being mobilised to locate Díaz’s father.

The parents of 26-year-old Díaz were reportedly abducted while driving to their residence. Gunmen on motorcycles intercepted them and forcibly took them away in their vehicles, as confirmed by authorities.

Liverpool issued a statement on Sunday, acknowledging their awareness of the situation.

Luis Díaz joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022. Andrew

“It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity,” the statement read. “In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.”

The forward was not named in Liverpool’s Premier League game at Anfield against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

“We had to obviously make a late change because of the private situation involving Luis Díaz,” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said ahead of the game.

“It’s a worrying situation for all of us and it was a pretty tough night. I have never had that before; it’s a new experience I never needed.”
The Colombian soccer federation, in an official statement, expressed deep regret over the kidnapping incident and called on authorities to ensure the safe rescue of Luis Díaz’s father.

Luis Díaz, a player with 43 appearances for the Colombian national team, has chosen not to make any public statements regarding the incident.

Liverpool, a Premier League club, made a significant multi-million-dollar signing in January 2022 by bringing in winger Luis Díaz from the Portuguese club Porto. Since joining the Premier League giants, he has made 58 appearances and scored 14 goals.

“Very mature” – Trent Arnold eulogises Luke Chambers after impressive debut display

Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed admiration for the “amazing” Luke Chambers after the Liverpool academy graduate made his full debut for the Reds in a Europa League match against Toulouse at Anfield.

In a commanding performance, Liverpool secured a 5-1 victory with goals from five different players.

Manager Jurgen Klopp opted to rest some regular starters for this European fixture, granting Chambers an opportunity to showcase his skills at left-back.

The young player seized this chance and delivered an impressive performance, increasing the pressure on Klopp to provide him with more opportunities in the future.

Alexander-Arnold, himself a product of Liverpool’s youth system, was delighted to witness another academy talent thrive on the grand stage and commended Chambers for his display.

“I’ve seen it was seven years yesterday since my debut,” Alexander-Arnold told TNT Sports post-match. “And I still know exactly how it feels. That excitement you’ve worked so hard for

He’s put in all the hard work, he’s shown himself, and he’s been outstanding every time.

“He’s been in and around the team on and off the pitch, and he plays amazing football. It’s amazing to see him out there, and he’s a really amazing player and he has great potential. I’m sure he and his family will have a great night because it’s one he’ll never forget. He put in an amazing performance out there, was very mature, and contributed to a big win for us.”

An injury to Andrew Robertson could pave the way for more minutes for Chambers. The defender revealed that it was a dream come true for him, as he has been a lifelong Liverpool fan.

“I’ve dreamt of this moment since I was six years old,” the 19-year-old said.

“And a win as well. I’m lost for words. I found out yesterday and had a little bit of time with my family at night and a bit of reality this morning when I woke up. But I loved every minute of it.”

Chambers will hope to retain his place in the starting XI when Liverpool host Nottingham Forest on Sunday in the Premier League.

Just after 4 months? Saudi side Al-Qadsiah sacks Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has been unexpectedly dismissed from his position as the head coach of Al-Qadsiah, even though the team was performing well, securing the second spot in the league.

Fowler’s tenure lasted only four months, during which the team achieved six wins and two draws in the opening eight matches.

Remarkably, Fowler was honoured with the Manager of the Month award for his team’s impressive performance in September.

This decision has raised eyebrows, particularly considering the team’s strong showing.

The team’s sole significant setback came in the King Cup of Champions, when they were defeated 2-0 by Al-Taawoun, a Saudi Pro League team.

Replacing the Liverpool legend, Al-Qadsiah has brought in former Sevilla manager and Real Madrid great Michel Gonzalez.

This marks his fourth managerial stint, having previously coached teams like Muangthong United, Brisbane Roar, and East Bengal.

Al-Qadsiah put out a statement announcing their decision that read: “Al-Qadsiah FC terminates its contractual relationship with coach Robbie Fowler.

We thank the coach for what he provided during the contractual period with the team.”

Liverpool, Madrid race for Bayern Munich’s Musiala

Liverpool and Real Madrid have expressed their interest in acquiring the services of Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala, as per reports from Bild.

Musiala, a 20-year-old talent, has reportedly grown increasingly discontent with being relegated to the bench, particularly in the wake of his impressive performance last season, where he notched 16 goals and provided 16 assists across all competitions. This dissatisfaction might create an opportunity for him to consider a departure from Bayern.

Despite the fact that Musiala’s existing contract with Bayern doesn’t expire until 2026, it has been noted that he has halted contract negotiations with the club.

In the event that Musiala decides to seek a new club, Liverpool is said to be poised to make a move, while Real Madrid is also eager to have him alongside his former England youth international teammate, Jude Bellingham.

  • Sane set to replace Salah at Liverpool

Sane set to replace Salah at Liverpool

Liverpool is actively considering Bayern Munich’s winger Leroy Sane as their top choice should Mohamed Salah decide to depart from the club.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool is prepared to surpass their previous transfer record to secure the services of the former Manchester City speedster, who has been in outstanding form this season.

Sane has found the back of the net nine times in 14 appearances for both club and country during this term, forming a productive partnership with Harry Kane for the Bundesliga champions.

Reports suggest that Salah had garnered interest from Saudi Pro League clubs during the summer, and it’s anticipated that renewed interest in the forward will surface in the coming months. Given that Salah’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025, there’s a likelihood that Jurgen Klopp may opt to capitalize on the asset within the next year.

The director of football for the Saudi league, Michael Emenalo, recently stated, “Mo is welcome at any time.”

“Mo is my personal favourite. There are many world-class players showing interest. It’s a place where you can go and have fun and definitely improve their economics.”

A deal for Sane would not come cheap, with Real Madrid also expected to make their interest clear to Bayern.

Scotland coach Steve Clark renders injury update on Liverpool defender Andy Robertson

Scotland’s manager, Steve Clarke, provided an injury update on Andy Robertson, the Liverpool defender, who sustained a shoulder injury during the match against Spain.

Robertson collided with Unai Simon during Scotland’s 2-0 loss to La Roja.

As he left the field, accompanied by two medical staff members, he improvised a sling to support his arm and was substituted by Nathan Patterson.

“Obviously, he hurt his shoulder. We’ll have a look and he (Robertson) will go back to his club now,” Clarke told reporters.

Robertson’s injury has put Scotland in a spot of bother as his backup, Real Sociedad’s Kieran Tierney, is also out nursing a hamstring injury.

“It always seems to happen when you lose one player in a position. We lose Kieran, then Andy picks up a shoulder injury. We’ll see how it is and how it settles down. Hopefully he’s good for his club as soon as possible and ready to help us in November,” Clarke added.

Robertson is set to sit out Scotland’s upcoming friendly against France on Tuesday, and there are doubts about his fitness for the upcoming Merseyside Derby against Everton at Anfield on October 21.

Upper tier of Liverpool’s Anfield Road stand to remain shut until 2024

Liverpool Football Club announced on Thursday that the new upper tier in the Anfield Road stand will remain closed until the year’s end.

This delay in the expansion project has resulted in the cancellation of fans’ tickets for the October 21st match against Everton.

Originally, the new tier, which was set to increase Anfield’s capacity by 7,000 seats to over 61,000, was anticipated to be ready for the 2023-24 season.

However, due to delays and a change of contractor, the current capacity is reduced to approximately 51,000.

“We’re going to have to maintain the status quo for the remainder of the calendar year, essentially meaning capacity at Anfield will remain the same as for the previous home games that we’ve seen this season,” said Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan.

This includes plans to open some of the upper tier for the Merseyside derby and the visit of neighbourhood rivals Everton, for which Liverpool had already sold tickets.

“Ultimately, we won’t be in a position to be able to provide seats for those fans who have purchased those tickets in the upper tier,” Hogan said.

“Our team has identified who those supporters are and they will be reaching out directly to those supporters next week.”

Some safeguards have been put in place – Head of referees says after Liverpool VAR error

Head of referees, Howard Webb, has stated that measures have been implemented to prevent a recurrence of the VAR mistake that led to a valid Liverpool goal against Tottenham Hotspur being incorrectly disallowed.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) acknowledged that VAR made an erroneous offside ruling when Luis Diaz scored what should have been the first goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat.

“Having seen what happened in Spurs vs. Liverpool, we analysed the situation and had a look at what we could do better to put some safeguards in place,” Webb told the TV programme Match Officials. Mic’d Up.

“We worked hard over the subsequent days to look at what we needed to do to put in those safeguards around the communication to avoid that sort of thing happening.”

In response to why the referee couldn’t halt the game after play had resumed, Howard Webb explained that by the time both the VAR and his assistant recognised the error, it had reached a point where it was no longer feasible to intervene.

“They recognised that the laws of the game, set by FIFA and the IFAB, doesn’t allow that,” Webb added.

“There’s obviously a process in place that sits in the laws of the game… And it doesn’t allow you to go back to those circumstances.

Gravenberch scores his debut Liverpool goal in an Europa League victory

Ryan Gravenberch netted his debut goal for Liverpool, helping secure a hard-fought 2-0 victory against Union St.-Gilloise in their Europa League clash at Anfield on Thursday.

Gravenberch, who arrived from Bayern Munich on deadline day, found the net in the 44th minute.

The midfielder capitalized on a rebound after Union goalkeeper Anthony Moris spilled a long-range shot taken by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool, however, encountered resilience from their Belgian opponents and only sealed the win in second-half stoppage time when Diogo Jota calmly slotted the ball past Moris from inside the box during a counterattack.

In the first half, Darwin Núñez missed a golden opportunity when he side-footed wide from close range after Mohamed Salah delivered a low cross.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp acknowledged that his team could have performed better.

“We lost rhythm slightly and gave too many set pieces away,” he told TNT Sport.

” Should have had more direction and all these kinds of things, but you take what you can get in these moments and I thought we were really mature and professional but we could have been a lot better in a lot of moments.”

Liverpool is in first place in Group E with six points after winning their first two matches, including their opener at LASK Linz.

Following a 1-0 victory over LASK thanks to a goal from Gabriel Suazo in the first half, Toulouse is in second place with four points.

  • Late own goal by nine-man Liverpool guarantees win for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur secured a dramatic and contentious victory over a nine-man Liverpool in a Premier League clash that had its fair share of controversy and drama.

Liverpool found themselves in a tough spot due to two highly disputed red cards. The first, given to Curtis Jones, came after just 26 minutes following a VAR review, following a foul on Yves Bissouma. Then, shortly after halftime, Diogo Jota, who had come on as a substitute, received two quick bookings and was sent off, leaving Liverpool with a significant numerical disadvantage for over 20 minutes.

In a match marked by Liverpool’s palpable sense of injustice, they had a goal by Luis Diaz disallowed due to yet another contentious VAR decision. The officials swiftly deemed the Colombian to be offside, despite not displaying the customary offside line graphics.

PGMOL has since issued a statement admitting that a “significant human error” took place, calling the decision to rule out Diaz’s goal “a clear and obvious factual error”.

They say VAR should have intervened, and failed to do so, adding that a “full review” will be conducted to find out why it did not.

Captain Son Heung-min then put Spurs ahead, nine minutes before halftime, receiving a pass from Richarlison after a well-executed play by the summer signing James Maddison.

However, the visitors responded with an equalizer during first-half stoppage time when Cody Gakpo scored while turning from Virgil van Dijk’s header, although the Dutch forward sustained an injury during the goal celebration and did not return for the second half.

In the second half, Spurs had the better chances, with Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson making outstanding saves to deny Maddison and Son. It appeared that Liverpool’s resolute defense would secure them a hard-fought draw until the dramatic final seconds.

As Spurs launched one final attack, Matip inadvertently turned Pedro Porro’s cross high into the net, leaving the helpless Alisson with no chance. This late goal sparked scenes of jubilation and relief among the home supporters, handing Liverpool their first defeat of the season and preserving manager Ange Postecoglou’s unbeaten Premier League record.

The climax of the match ignited jubilant celebrations throughout the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where the atmosphere has undergone a significant transformation since the arrival of manager Ange Postecoglou.

James Maddison continued to orchestrate the game, playing a pivotal role in Son’s opening goal. The team’s intensity and determination have garnered resounding approval from Spurs fans who had endured more conservative styles of play under previous managers such as Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

While this late victory against nine-man opponents may involve an element of fortune, it represents a significant three-point swing against the increasingly formidable Liverpool side, bolstering confidence at Spurs.

For Liverpool, the game was marked by frustration and a sense of injustice. Manager Jurgen Klopp and his players were aggrieved by the red cards given to Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, and the decision to disallow Luis Diaz’s first-half goal for offside was clearly a glaring error.

Liverpool organized themselves in a resilient 5-3-0 formation, with goalkeeper Alisson serving as an outstanding last line of defense, frustrating Spurs once they were reduced to nine men. While Liverpool has demonstrated their ability to secure results with reduced numbers this season, as seen in wins against Bournemouth and Newcastle United despite being down to ten men, this time it proved too challenging.

Nevertheless, Klopp can take pride in the way Liverpool regrouped and came within seconds of earning a valuable point. Their attacking prowess is well-known, but this match showcased their quality and character at the defensive end, only for their hard work to be in vain due to Matip’s inadvertent late intervention.

Tsimikas extends his stay with Liverpool

Liverpool’s defender Kostas Tsimikas has inked a fresh long-term contract.

The Greek defender, who arrived at Liverpool from Olympiakos in 2020, has made a significant impact, contributing 12 assists in 63 appearances for the Merseyside club.

“I feel very glad to be here to extend my contract,” Tsimikas said in a club statement. “I feel like all the sacrifices I did and other things, the work I put in, [that] everything pays off.

“But this keeps me fully motivated for the rest. As I’ve said in many, many interviews, this team has many, many things to achieve all together and I wanted to be from the first minute a part of it.

“I think this team has very big potential to win more trophies and we will go for it. Everybody, I think, is 100% there [and] focused for the next games and everybody is ready to achieve big things in the future.”

Liverpool at top of PL table after beating Wolves

Liverpool claimed a dramatic 3-1 comeback victory over Wolves, securing the top spot in the Premier League in the process.

The match at Molineux saw Liverpool trailing 1-0 after an early goal by Wolves’ Hwang Hee-Chan. Wolves dominated the first half, and only a missed opportunity by Matheus Cunha prevented them from extending their lead.

Liverpool’s performance improved in the second half, with Cody Gakpo scoring the equalizer. The Reds then secured the win with a late own goal by Hugo Bueno, sealing their third comeback victory of the season.

Manager Jurgen Klopp had expressed frustration with the fixture schedule before the early kick-off, and his mood didn’t improve when Wolves took an early lead.

Wolves played aggressively, and Liverpool struggled to find their rhythm, with Mohamed Salah and Diego Jota missing opportunities.

Wolves had a chance to double their lead but missed a golden opportunity when Cunha mistimed his header from close range.

Liverpool had a brief resurgence before halftime, with Jose Sa making a save from Salah’s shot.

In the second half, Klopp introduced Luis Diaz, who played a role in Liverpool’s equalizing goal, with Gakpo tapping in a low cross from Salah.

Wolves found themselves on the defensive as Liverpool pushed for the win, with Max Kilman making a crucial block to deny Darwin Nunez a late goal.

Ultimately, Liverpool’s late show secured them the victory and the top spot in the Premier League.

Yet the Reds struck with four minutes left after Sa gifted them a second.

The goalkeeper’s poor clearance was collected by Robertson mid-way inside the Wolves half. He advanced to dart into the area, swapped passes with Salah and finish under Sa.

There was still time for a third in stoppage time when Elliott’s 20-yard drive clipped Bueno to wrongfoot Sa and roll in off the post.

Liverpool’s Van Dijk slapped with additional one-game ban

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk (32) will miss his side’s next Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers after being suspended for an extra game following his reaction to being sent off against Newcastle United last month.

The Dutch defender was also fined 100,000 pounds after admitting he acted in an improper manner, the Football Association said in a statement.

Van Dijk was sent off for fouling Alexander Isak during the first half and appeared to remonstrate with referee John Brooks before walking off the pitch.

“The defender admitted that he acted in an improper manner and used abusive and insulting words towards a match official after being sent off in the 29th minute, and the sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent regulatory commission,” said an FA statement.

He was automatically suspended for Liverpool’s win against Aston Villa on September 3.

Saudi side, Al Ittihad not ready to back-down in their pursuit for Salah

    Al Ittihad is reportedly
gearing up to present another offer in their pursuit of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah before the Saudi transfer window closes this Thursday, according to Sky Sports.

Negotiations have apparently been ongoing at Al Ittihad since their 4-3 defeat against Al Hilal on Friday, with certain senior figures determined to make another bid.

Liverpool had previously rejected their initial £150 million proposal, and the Saudi club is now looking to sweeten the deal.

However, Liverpool have consistently asserted that they have no intention of parting ways with the 31-year-old, who demonstrated his prowess by scoring in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.

The Reds have made it clear that Salah is not available for transfer at any price.

Some individuals within Al Ittihad’s leadership hierarchy are of the opinion that they should respect Liverpool’s decision and wait until next summer in the hope of a successful transfer.

It’s worth noting that Salah’s contract with Liverpool extends until 2025.

Saudis announce transfer deadline as they Saudi side miss out on Liverpool eye Salah

The Saudi Pro League has officially announced that its transfer window will close on September 7, while Liverpool appears determined to ward off any further bids for Mohamed Salah.

Earlier, ESPN reported that Liverpool had turned down a substantial offer of up to £150 million ($190 million) from Al Ittihad for the Egyptian international.

Al Ittihad, the Saudi Arabian club, initiated their move on Friday, offering an initial sum of £100 million for Salah with additional incentives that could have potentially reached £150 million for Liverpool.

However, insider sources have confirmed that Liverpool has rejected the offer for Salah, and the club has firmly closed the matter. A Liverpool source emphasised to ESPN, “The player is not available not for sale.”

A statement from the Saudi Arabia Football Association on Monday read: “As communicated to clubs in Saudi Arabia on Friday, June 30, the summer registration for player transfers for the Roshn Saudi League [Saudi Pro League] closes on Thursday, Sept. 7.”

Salah scored in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday and Klopp said that the forward is fully committed to staying at Anfield this season.

“He didn’t tell me [if he wants to stay], but he didn’t have to,” Klopp told reporters after the game, “He speaks with his training and performances and behaviour. We had meetings this week, and the meetings were not about what we did in the past, it was about what we will do in the future.

“Mo was with the players’ [leadership] committee and had his moments where he was talking and it was nothing like, ‘by the way, this is only until next week’ or whatever.”

Salah’s former teammates Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mané, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino completed deals with Saudi clubs this summer.

  •  Liverpool considering Bakayoko as Salah replacement

Liverpool considering Bakayoko as Salah replacement

Liverpool faces a significant decision regarding the future of Mohamed Salah as Saudi Arabian giants Al Ittihad express their interest.

According to the Daily Express, Al Ittihad submitted a £150 million offer for the 31-year-old last Friday, but reports from Sky suggest that they are preparing an increased bid of £200 million as the Saudi transfer window’s September 7 deadline approaches.

After Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, during which Salah scored his 188th goal for the club, manager Jurgen Klopp expressed confidence that the Egyptian forward would continue to stay at Anfield.

However, behind the scenes, the club is considering PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko as a potential replacement.

The 20-year-old Belgian international had offers from Burnley and Brentford rejected during the summer transfer window, but PSV might be open to letting him go in January for a fee of around £45 million.

  • Liverpool declines a £100 million bid for Mo Salah from Saudi club

Liverpool has turned down a bold offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad for Mohamed Salah.

The proposal, which was reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, amounted to over £100 million, including additional clauses.

“Liverpool rejected a verbal bid worth more than £100m plus substantial add-ons from the Saudi Pro League to sign Mohamed Salah for Al Ittihad.

Proposal made on amicable call to Mike Gordon last night.”

According to a report from Sky Sports, the comprehensive offer stands at £150 million.

Jan Aage Fjørtoft, a former Norwegian international and sports pundit, had earlier in the week suggested that Mohamed Salah was ‘likely’ to make a move to the Saudi Pro League in the closing hours of the transfer window.

Al Ittihad is reported to have agreed on personal terms with the 30-year-old, who appears prepared to commit to a three-year contract with an annual salary of £65 million.

Despite earlier reports suggesting that Liverpool had turned down an informal offer, head coach Jurgen Klopp stated in his pre-match comments that the club had not received any offers for Salah.

“The position remains the same. Absolutely no doubt about that. Nothing else to say. No offer as far as I know.” he said.

Liverpool vs Newcastle: Trent Arnold admits near red card experience “was a bit of a mistake from me”

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold narrowly evaded a red card during the match against Newcastle United on Sunday, despite committing a significant blunder earlier.

In the early stages, within just six minutes, Alexander-Arnold had a stroke of luck as he managed to avoid a direct red card. However, his mistake was capitalised upon by Anthony Gordon, allowing Newcastle to take the lead.

Adding to the eventful first half, Virgil van Dijk was sent off within the initial half-hour for a foul on Alexander Isak. The Liverpool team made a robust comeback, securing a victory with two goals from substitute Darwin Nunez to claim all three points.

When asked if he expected referee John Brooks to dismiss him, Alexander-Arnold answered: “It’s always difficult. Especially when you’re away from home, decisions can go against you. It was a bit of a mistake from me and it didn’t help with the crowd on top of me and the team.

“Me and the team are experienced in these things, we have played in difficult environments and have been able to pull through. To leave here with three points is a very good thing.”

The England international also spoke about the win and how proud he was of his team for staging a comeback despite having only 10 men on the pitch.

“It’s unbelievable. It was something very special out there today. You come here with a game plan, you want to dictate possession and control the game. That wasn’t the case and we’ve had to do it the hard way. We dug deep and it’s something for the ages.

“It’s one of our best performances since the manager has come in and we’ve had some outstanding performances as a team. I think we will look back on this game as something very special,” he added.

“Going down to ten men almost brings the team closer together. You have to do the extra yards and you can’t switch off. The lads that came on for us were outstanding.”

Nunez has struggled to live up to his club record fee since signing from Benfica a little more than a year ago. The Uruguayan has yet to start a game this season, but he showed his ability to sneak behind the Newcastle defence and score with two powerful finishes.

Liverpool will next face off against Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday, September 3. They will be without Van Dijk and could even lose Mohammed Salah before the game as he has been linked with a move away from the Reds.

  • Jamie Carragher evaluates Liverpool’s chances of winning Premier League after tremendous victory over Newcastle

Jamie Carragher evaluates Liverpool’s chances of winning Premier League after tremendous victory over Newcastle

Jamie Carragher has given an overhauled decision on Liverpool’s Chief Association title chances after their shocking 2-1 win at Newcastle on Sunday.

The Reds went down to 10 men after fair 28 minutes with Virgil van Dijk appeared a straight ruddy card.

But Jurgen Klopp’s side created a momentous comeback after Darwin Nunez leveled it up with nine minutes of ordinary time to play, some time recently he stowed a 93rd-minute victor to start wild scenes within the absent conclusion.

The result implies Liverpool stay unbeaten from their to begin with three Head Association matches of the season, after they drew at Chelsea on the opening day and recorded a 3-1 triumph over AFC Bournemouth.

Previous Liverpool shield Carragher was tested around Liverpool’s title chances after the win at Newcastle and feels his ancient club must bring in a unused shield and a unused midfielder some time recently the summer exchange window closes.

‘Liverpool have been Manchester City’s greatest rivals for the final four or five a long time, and Arms stockpile came to the fore final season,’ Carragher said. ‘But why can’t Liverpool be that group once more this season?

‘The squad that Liverpool have right presently isn’t great sufficient to challenge Manchester City, but they’ve need to go for it within the transfer showcase this week in terms of bringing in another protector and midfielder.

‘That needs to happen since Liverpool can still be the greatest rivals to Manchester City.

‘They’ve made a conventional begin to the season, but when you’ve got somebody like Alisson – a world-class goalkeeper, possibly the leading goalkeeper within the world – Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah, these are players who are not coming to the conclusion of their careers but are at that organize where on the off chance that Liverpool are aiming to go on to do something huge once more, it must happen within the following year or two.

‘So truly go for it within the final week of the exchange window to urge a squad that’s great sufficient to challenge Manchester City.’

  • Salah is a Liverpool player, he is not for sale – Jurgen Klopp responds to player’s Saudi links

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp (56) firmly stated on Friday that Mohamed Salah (31) is not available for transfer, and the club has not received any offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad.

Reports in the British media on Thursday indicated that Al Ittihad was making another attempt to secure the services of the Egyptian international. However, Klopp categorically ruled out any potential deal.

Since his arrival at Liverpool in 2017, Salah has been a prolific scorer, netting 187 goals in 307 appearances. His contributions have played a significant role in Liverpool’s triumphs, including winning the Premier League and the Champions League.

“It’s always difficult to talk about media stories because there’s nothing to talk about from our point of view,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Liverpool’s game with Saudi-owned Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday.

“We don’t have an offer, Mo Salah is a Liverpool player. Obviously, for all the things we do, essential is, was, and will be. There’s nothing there, if there were something, the answer would be no.”

The manager also emphasised that Salah, who inked a three-year contract extension last year, remains fully devoted to Liverpool.

During their 3-1 victory against Bournemouth on Saturday, Liverpool faced a red card situation when Alexis MacAllister (24) was sent off, reducing them to 10 players. However, following an appeal, the red card has since been revoked, leading the manager to express immense relief.

“I wasn’t sure after the game so when I saw the pictures back, I was really sure that it’s not a red card,” Klopp said, “but that doesn’t mean immediately that our appeal will be successful.”

Mac Allister is now eligible for the upcoming match against Newcastle, where Klopp will face off against Eddie Howe.

Having assumed the helm of Newcastle in 2021, Howe guided the club to a commendable fourth-place finish in the previous season, securing a spot in the Champions League. Klopp praised Howe as an exceptional coach.

Klopp confirmed that right back Trent Alexander-Arnold (24) is in good shape after departing the field with a minor injury during the Bournemouth match last weekend. Furthermore, midfielders Thiago Alcantara (32) and Curtis Jones (22) are set to be available starting Monday.

However, centre back Ibrahima Konate (24) is grappling with a muscle injury and is uncertain for the upcoming Newcastle game.

“Playing 40 minutes with 10 men didn’t help. That’s the situation,” Klopp said.

Liverpool have four points after two Premier League games, with Newcastle one point behind.

  • Liverpool files an appeal over red card of Alexis MacAllister during their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth

Liverpool files an appeal over red card of Alexis MacAllister during their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth

The red card that Alexis Mac Allister received during Liverpool‘s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday has been appealed.

After challenging Ryan Christie, Mac Allister received a straight red card, and Jurgen Klopp’s team won 3-1 at Anfield.

Referee Thomas Bramall’s first call was not overturned when VAR reviewed the decision.

Mac Allister’s three-game suspension for receiving a red card means he will miss Liverpool’s Premier League games against Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Wolves.

The Football Association has received an appeal from Liverpool under the heading of “wrongful dismissal,” nevertheless.

Following the game, Klopp responded to questions about the judgement by saying, “It’s harsh, this shouldn’t have been a red card.”

“It’s a mistake, and playing 40 minutes with 10 men is already a punishment enough,” the coach said. We must speak with the authorities.

There was contact, but it happens frequently in sports. Nobody would point out that they should take another look at something if he issued a yellow card.

We’ll probably talk about it again because of how frequently I’ve already been questioned about it.

When I questioned Macca, he responded, “He touched him, but not really.” There are no other boxes checked aside contact if we have a list of things you need to do to get a red card.

  • Armando Broja’s transfer request from former manager Jose Mourinho rejected by Chelsea

Armando Broja’s transfer request from former manager Jose Mourinho rejected by Chelsea

Armando Broja’s loan from Chelsea to Roma has been discussed, but the Blues are unwilling to let the striker leave the team.

The 21-year-old has been sidelined since the end of 2022 due to a major knee injury, but he is very close to finishing his recovery and could return to the field by next month.

It is a little surprising that Roma would want to sign him to a short-term contract given how long he has been sidelined and how unfit he still is, but according to Sky Sports, the Italians have spoken to the Blues about the potential of taking the Albanian on loan.

Chelsea, however, has rejected the Serie A team’s request to sign Broja, especially in light of Christopher Nkunku’s recent significant knee injury, which could keep him out until December.

AC Milan has also expressed interest in the teenage forward, but should they make a bid for him, they will face the same opposition as Roma.

With summer acquisition Nicolas Jackson starting the opening Premier League match of the year as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Liverpool, new Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino does not have an abundance of options for the central striker position.

While Pochettino has access to other forwards, they are either more at home out wide or deeper, while Romelu Lukaku is still with the team but is anticipated to leave before the transfer window shuts.

Jackson looked energetic throughout the entire game against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, but he missed one very fine opportunity.

Beşiktaş signs ex Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on free transfer

Beşiktaş has secured the services of English footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, aged 29, on a three-year deal through a free transfer, subsequent to the conclusion of his contract with Liverpool.

The announcement was made by the Turkish Super Lig club on Monday.

During the previous season, Oxlade-Chamberlain faced challenges in gaining sufficient playing time, participating in only 13 matches for his former team, based in Merseyside.

His association with Liverpool began in 2017, transitioning from Arsenal.

Over his tenure, he played in a total of 146 games for the club and contributed 18 goals.

Besiktas disclosed that they will be compensating Oxlade-Chamberlain with an annual sum of €2.5 million throughout the entirety of the three-year agreement.

Having earned 35 international caps and netted seven goals for his national team, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s journey with the England squad began in 2012.

  • Liverpool reaches £60m fee for Romeo Lavia transfer – but it’s not yet over

Liverpool reaches £60m fee for Romeo Lavia transfer – but it’s not yet over

As Moises Caicedo gets ready to join Chelsea in a groundbreaking British record transfer, reports suggest that Liverpool will eventually come to an agreement with Southampton regarding Romeo Lavia’s transfer.

During the intense competition to acquire Caicedo, Liverpool presented a bid of £111 million, leading to Southampton’s young talent Lavia’s situation being somewhat overlooked.

Chelsea’s sudden surge of interest in the 19-year-old seemed to be more of a strategic move as they competed with other Premier League competitors to secure his signature.

Chelsea has now reportedly reached a £115 million deal with Brighton for Caicedo, leaving Liverpool with a more pressing need for a defensive midfielder.

Despite three prior rejected bids for Lavia, Liverpool has entered into a competition with Chelsea for the services of the Belgian international.

According to Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian, Liverpool has now reached an agreement with Southampton worth £60 million.

However, it remains to be seen whether they can convince Lavia to move to Anfield, with “indications [he] favours a move to Chelsea.”

Chelsea bid £55 million for the teenager last week, and it was previously claimed that they would look to sign both Lavia and Caicedo, though Steinberg added on Twitter that Liverpool are the only club with an agreement with Southampton.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has corroborated Steinberg’s report, explaining that “things could develop quickly, but it’s not over yet.”

Farcically, it seems the club will now need to spend more than they would have hoped on the teenager following Chelsea‘s offer.

Liverpool had attempted to negotiate with Southampton below their £50 million price tag with bids of £37 million, £41 million, and £46 million.

That was the source of frustration among supporters, as the Reds were perceived to be haggling for a player who would have benefited from a longer bedding-in period.

While Southampton had publicly sought £50 million, there were hints that they could eventually agree a deal below that—until, it seems, the battle for Caicedo.

Not only did Liverpool show their hand with a potential British-record bid for the Ecuadorian, but in failing to sign him, they also became more vulnerable in the market.

Further developments are expected on Monday, with Liverpool undoubtedly keen to bring in their next signing as soon as possible.

Pleased but disappointed;we deserved to win – Pochettino on Chelsea’s draw against Liverpool

Mauricio Pochettino asserts that he is embarking on a remarkable journey with Chelsea, expressing this sentiment following his inaugural Premier League match in charge. The game ended in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

Although the home team initially conceded a goal at Stamford Bridge, Axel Disasi managed to equalise for Chelsea on his debut, securing them a point from their first match of the season.

When asked by the BBC’s Match of the Day whether a draw was a fair result, Pochettino replied: ‘I don’t believe it is. I think we deserved a little bit more overall.

“We feel pleased, but at the same time disappointed because we wanted to win and we deserved to win, but it is only the beginning.

We’ve established an excellent working approach here, which holds significant importance. It revolves around belief, diligent effort, and mutual trust. The connection we’ve forged from the very beginning has been exceptional.

‘The fans were always with us. Even in the difficult moments they were there, they never gave up and always believed in the team, and the team felt the energy from the crowd.

Chelsea win the Caicedo race as it edge closer to sign eight-year contract with Brighton midfielder

Chelsea have emerged victorious in the race to secure the services of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo in a record-breaking British transfer worth £115 million ($146 million).

The imminent completion of Caicedo’s transfer to the Blues is reported by The Athletic, with an agreement in place and a medical examination scheduled for Monday.

The deal will see Caicedo sign an extraordinary contract spanning eight years, with the option for an additional ninth year.

Following the medical, the official announcement of the transfer is anticipated.

This development signifies the impending conclusion of a transfer saga that has spanned the entire summer, with Chelsea ultimately emerging as the successful party.

Recent reports indicated that Caicedo was resolute in his decision to join Stamford Bridge, despite Liverpool’s substantial £110 million British record bid.

At long last, it appears that Chelsea’s pursuit of the player has borne fruit.

Furthermore, reports suggest that a sell-on clause has been agreed upon with Brighton, which acquired Caicedo for a mere £4.5 million in 2021.

This arrangement implies a substantial profit of over £110 million for Brighton from the sale of the Ecuadorian international.

This profit underscores the effectiveness of the club’s esteemed player recruitment and transfer strategy, promising future gains as well.

For those who witnessed Chelsea’s inaugural fixture against Liverpool, the prospect of Caicedo’s contribution to Mauricio Pochettino’s reshaped team is undoubtedly thrilling.

The team showcased attacking prowess, albeit somewhat unbalanced and lacking a decisive cutting edge in the opposing box.

As the new signings acclimatise to life at Stamford Bridge in the forthcoming months, prospects for improvement seem promising.

Chelsea poised to beat Liverpool in signing Moisés Caicedo with a £115 million bid – sources

Chelsea is poised to make another significant investment in the transfer market by potentially setting a new British transfer record for the second time this year.

The club has reportedly put forth a proposal of £115 million to secure the services of Brighton midfielder Moisés Caicedo, as revealed by sources speaking to ESPN’s James Olley.

While the precise details of the arrangement are still under discussion, Chelsea has signalled its intention to surpass the £111 million offer that Liverpool presented to Brighton for Caicedo on Friday.

It’s been confirmed by sources that the 21-year-old midfielder has expressed his desire to join Stamford Bridge, even after Liverpool reached an agreement with Brighton.

After undergoing protracted negotiations with Brighton throughout the summer—seeing a series of bids turned down, with the most recent being £80 million—Chelsea is now on the verge of finalising a deal that, with potential add-ons, will exceed the £106.8 million they spent on Enzo Fernández from Benfica in January.

In addition to their pursuit of Caicedo, Chelsea is aiming to outpace Liverpool in securing another midfielder, Romeo Lavia, by initiating discussions with Southampton.

Despite Liverpool’s multiple offers, Southampton has rejected them all for the 19-year-old Lavia, but Chelsea appears ready to exceed his £50 million valuation.

He added: “I enjoy his philosophy for football, how he is, and his character. I like how he is a very warm person; he has his character, and I think his debut was against us at Tottenham.

Pochettino also spoke about Klopp sending him a text message after the latter was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in 2019.

“He is one of the best. He was so nice when I left Tottenham. One of the best messages. He’s doing a great job with Liverpool.

There are good and bad periods, but they really believe in him and give him the best tools to create a good team to fight for every title,” he said

Klopp has always been regarded as one of the best personalities in the game, with the German being lauded multiple times by Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola as well as a lot of his former players. Pochettino’s comments just further cement his status.

Chelsea’s prolonged quest for a primary shirt sponsor has unfolded as one of the unexpected narratives of the summer.

The club initially faced challenges due to Premier League regulations, followed by a backlash from fans, resulting in them releasing a new kit without the presence of a sponsor’s emblem on the front.

The nostalgic 1990s-inspired Chelsea kit garnered positive feedback, with the absence of a sponsor contributing to its retro appeal.

Despite the failure to secure a deal in time, the minimalist design of the kit will see official use in at least one match.

As the Blues take the field without a sponsor, they will strive to put their challenges from the previous season behind them in the marquee fixture of the opening weekend as they welcome Liverpool to west London on Sunday afternoon.

Klopp confirms Liverpool- Brighton deal for Caicedo, acknowledges wrongs about transfer spendings

Liverpool has come to an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion for the transfer of Moises Caicedo (21), an Ecuadorian midfielder, as confirmed by manager Jurgen Klopp on Friday. This move is aimed at addressing Liverpool’s midfield depth issues.

Caicedo’s notable performances at Brighton have sparked speculation about his potential departure from the Amex Stadium.

He made 37 appearances for the club in the previous season, contributing significantly to their sixth-place finish and their qualification for European football for the first time.

Various clubs, including Chelsea, have shown interest in the Ecuadorean midfielder during the current transfer window. However, recent reports in the British media indicate that Liverpool has secured a deal with Brighton, amounting to £111 million.

“I can confirm the Caicedo deal with the club is agreed, whatever that means in the end. Of course, we want the player and not just the agreement,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Sunday’s season-opener at Chelsea.

“We don’t have endless resources. We didn’t expect a couple of things to happen over the summer, but when they did, we gave it a go. Let’s see what happens, and we go from there.”

Caicedo’s reported transfer fee would make him the most expensive player signed by a British club, surpassing the 107 million pounds Chelsea paid for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez earlier this year.

In 2016, when speaking about Manchester United’s then-world record signing of Paul Pogba for 89.3 million pounds, Klopp said he would approach transfer spending differently if he had the same resources at his disposal.

When asked how he felt about those words following the agreement for Caicedo, the German said, “Everything changed. Do I like it? No. Did I realise I was wrong? Yes.

“I’m not blaming anyone, but it’s just the market. In the end, we as a club have to make sure that, with our resources, we get the best possible player.

“We aren’t in a dreamland and can’t just point at a player and get them to come in. Sometimes one door closes and another opens up.”

  • Everton eager sign Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana

Everton eager sign Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana

In anticipation of the upcoming Premier League season, Everton has reignited their interest in Ghanaian forward Kamaldeen Sulemana, aiming to enhance their squad and avoid any setbacks.

Back in January, Sulemana secured a £22 million transfer to Southampton, choosing them over Everton, who had also expressed interest.

Despite a slow start at Southampton, the 21-year-old ended the season on a high note, scoring an impressive brace against Liverpool on the final day.

This outstanding performance garnered significant attention from various clubs.

Nonetheless, his contributions to Southampton weren’t sufficient to prevent their relegation from the English Premier League by the season’s end.

While Sulemana has expressed a desire to continue in the English Championship, he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of leaving Southampton, suggesting a potential return to the Premier League.

Even though he only joined Southampton in January and remains under contract until the summer of 2027, the idea of a transfer away from the club before the current transfer window closes isn’t entirely dismissed.

Recent reports have linked Sulemana with Everton, leaving room for optimism that a transfer deal could still materialise this summer.

  • Van Dijk understands concerns of Liverpool summer recruitment

Van Dijk understands concerns of Liverpool summer recruitment

Liverpool’s captain, Virgil van Dijk, has acknowledged the concerns surrounding the club’s limited transfer activity ahead of the upcoming season. He encouraged his teammates to rise to the occasion, especially in the wake of the significant departures of key players.

At 32 years old, Van Dijk took over the captaincy from Jordan Henderson, who concluded his 12-year tenure at Liverpool by moving to Saudi Arabia’s Pro League team Al Ettifaq last month.

Liverpool’s roster has seen the departure of six experienced players, including Henderson and Fabinho, who relocated to Saudi Arabian clubs. Furthermore, midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita, and forward Roberto Firmino have all departed on free transfers.

With just three days remaining until the commencement of the new season, Liverpool’s incoming player count hasn’t kept pace with the number of departures. Notably, only midfielders Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been added to the squad during the transfer window.

“I can definitely understand it in some ways, but I’m not a very negative person,” Van Dijk said when asked about Liverpool fans’ worries.

“Obviously, when a lot of players are leaving, when your captain is leaving, your vice-captain is leaving, and at the moment, there are only two incomings.

“And the way we have been playing, in possession it’s really good, but defensively when you concede goals it’s not as good, so I can understand some people having doubts.”

After narrowly missing out on an unprecedented quadruple in the 2021–22 season—Liverpool ended with two domestic cups—the club will not feature in the Champions League for the first time since manager Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in 2016–17.

“Let’s see if more players are coming in, and then we have to be ready again for a long season. It will be very tough if we look at the teams around us, but we want to be up there again; we want to be challenging again,” Van Dijk said.

“We have to be confident; we should be confident, and we should still be learning each and every day.

“There have been characters leaving, players who have played a big part in the success, but others have to step up. That’s a nice challenge, in my opinion. We should be excited.”

Liverpool will begin their season with an away fixture against Chelsea on Sunday.

Salah Saudi move: Egypt international’s agent speaks on insane €180m contract by Al-Ittihad

The agent of Liverpool’s star player, Mohamed Salah, has responded to speculation about a potential lucrative offer from a Saudi Arabian club.

In 2023, we will see several top talents leaving European football for the Middle East, following the trend set by players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Riyad Mahrez.

Recent reports suggest that Salah has caught the attention of Saudi clubs, with Al-Riyadiah claiming that Al-Ittihad has presented him with a contract offer amounting to €180 million (£155 million or $198 million).

It’s important to note that Salah signed a new three-year contract with Liverpool at Anfield in 2022.

As a result, his representative, Ramy Abbas, has tweeted: “If we considered leaving Liverpool this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract at the club last summer. Mohamed remains committed to Liverpool”.

That will be music to the ears of those on the red half of Merseyside, with Salah having been a talismanic presence for Liverpool across his six years at the club.

Salah, who is a three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, has registered 186 goals for Liverpool through 305 appearances, breaking countless records along the way and helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to seven trophy triumphs.

    Mauricio Pochettino’s decisions
during Chelsea’s final match of their US pre-season tour against Borussia Dortmund provided fans with insights ahead of the upcoming season.

Pochettino opted for a strong starting XI against the German club, resulting in a closely contested match where both teams held their ground.

The balance was eventually disrupted when Marius Wolf capitalized on a scramble within the 18-yard box, netting a goal after Kepa Arrizabalaga cleared a corner.

Young striker Mason Burstow made his mark by equalizing for Chelsea in the 89th minute, securing his first senior goal and concluding the Blues’ pre-season tour without a defeat for the first time since 2012.

    Pochettino drops XI hint

Pochettino confirmed to the media that the starting 11 yesterday could be on the field when the team line up against Liverpool in the season’s opening game.

“This was about giving 90 minutes to the team in my head that I plan to play because the season is only 10 days away,” he said via Sun Sport.

Many factors could influence the XI’s choice, including new signings and injuries, as new winger Christopher Nkunku limped off injured in 20 minutes.

Evening Standard reported that Poch did not give full details and only hoped it was not serious.

The Athletic reported that the Blues have agreed to a £25m deal plus add-ons for Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, which could also influence the choice of the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Fans also got a hint that Reece James has possibly been named the next captain after wearing the armband while Thiago Silva was on the pitch.

Both players left the pitch in the 73rd minute for Bashir Humphreys and Malo Gusto.

    James hints he’s next captain

Sports Brief reported that Reece James dropped a hint he is the next skipper after uploading a video on social media detailing his journey at the club from the academy days till the point he wore the armband in pre-season.

The academy star lifted the PL Summer Series trophy alongside Silva and yet again shared a message to fans in what could be described as his first as captain.

‘Nothing to it’ – Klopp ruins claims of Mbappe’s move to Liverpool

Kylian Mbappe is not on Liverpool’s radar, according to Jurgen Klopp.

The 24-year old Mbappe wants to leave PSG, and the club wants to sell him this summer for €150 million rather than let him leave for free the next year.

“We laugh about it,” Klopp told Sky Germany. “I can say that I think he’s a really good player but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all. I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now … but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it.

“It’s possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me…that hasn’t happened in the eight years that I’ve been here. That would be
    the first time.”

Kylian Mbappe’s the Parisian star has seen many clubs express interest with the Serie A club leading the bidders.

However, few weeks ago, Saudi club, Al-Hilal made world record £259m bid for PSG striker after which they were given a greenlight to start talks with Mbappe.

But per reports, Mbappe is not ready to move to Asia.

  • Sadio Mane just a medical away from joining Al-Nassr

Sadio Mane just a medical away from joining Al-Nassr

Sadio Mane is on the verge of joining Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr and teaming up with Cristiano Ronaldo, pending a medical examination.

Bayern Munich has reportedly accepted a verbal proposal for the Senegalese forward, who faced challenges adapting to the Bundesliga after his move from Liverpool last summer.

Al Nassr has been engaged in intense negotiations with Bayern Munich for Mane’s transfer and made a £32 million offer for the talented winger.

The Saudi Pro League club is confident that they can finalize the deal before the end of the week.

According to The Sun, Mane’s agent is already negotiating personal terms with Al Nassr as the 31-year-old forward is expected to become the latest big name to move from Europe to Saudi Arabia.

Mane is set to become Al Nassr’s fourth major signing this summer after completing deals for Marcelo Brozovic, Reuben Neves and Seko Fofana by the Saudi club.

    Mane’s Bayern performance not satisfactory
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has described Sadio Mane’s time at the German club as ‘not satisfactory’ as the Senegalese forward looks set to leave for Al Nassr, ESPN reports.

The former Liverpool forward scored 12 goals in 38 appearances for Bayern, but only one of those goals came after a leg injury in November that kept him out of the World Cup.

Mane has two years left on his contract with Bayern, but after a disappointing and injury-hit first season with the Bundesliga champions, both parties have decided to part ways after just one season.

    Sadio Mane snaps at reporter
Earlier, Sports Brief reported Sadio Mane’s immediate future at Bayern Munich remains unsettled after the forward suffered a reported fallout with the German club hierarchy.

However, Mane appeared to have noticed the amount of backlash he has received from the media and he wasted little time showing how displeased he was with them.

In a video posted on Twitter by Maximilian Koch, an Abendzeitung reporter, the player was seen posing for a photo with a fan when a journalist approached.

Fabinho has been excluded from Liverpool’s squad flying out to Singapore as midfielder nears £40m ($51.82m) Al-Ittihad transfer.

The Brazilian’s move to Saudi Arabia was thrown into doubt due to payment structure issues, but negotiations have resumed and all parties are committed to finalising the deal.

According to The Athletic, Fabinho will be the latest superstar to join the Saudi Pro League following the takeover of four major clubs by the country’s Public Investment Fund.

The midfielder will join Jordan Henderson in heading to the Middle East, with Liverpool confirming the captain has sealed a deal to join Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq.

Fabinho had previously been left out of Liverpool’s pre-season camp in Germany as talks have been ongoing for a few weeks now. Now he will sit out the Singapore trip where Liverpool will play two friendlies against Leicester City and Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Liverpool continue to hold discussions with Southampton for the acquisition of Romeo Lavia. They have seen their first bid of £37 million ($48m) knocked back as the Saints remain firm on their £50m ($64m).

  • Perfect fits for Liverpool as Barnes praises the signings of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai

Perfect fits for Liverpool as Barnes praises the signings of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai

Jurgen Klopp has made excellent signings in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, both of whom are perfectly suited to the team’s playing style, according to Liverpool legend John Barnes.

Liverpool secured the services of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion for a reported initial fee of £35 million, while Dominik Szoboszlai joined from RB Leipzig for £60 million (€69 million) ahead of the 2023-24 season.

These two midfielders are expected to bring versatility to the team as they can play in multiple positions.

They will add much-needed energy to Liverpool’s midfield, which is experiencing an aging process and may soon lose key players like Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, who are reportedly heading to Saudi Arabia.

Mac Allister and Szoboszlai’s ability to adapt and perform in various roles, after initially starting as wingers before moving to central positions, aligns perfectly with Klopp’s tactical approach.

Their acquisitions are seen as tailor-made fits for the Liverpool squad, and fans have high hopes for their contributions in the upcoming season.

“Last season I think it was fairly apparent that we needed midfield players,” Barnes told Stats Perform. “Of course, what you do is you use every opportunity to get who you can.

“So, in the strikers that we’ve got, I think that bodes well for the future. But I think you can see that we were a little bit short in midfield from an age perspective but also from a quality and intensity perspective.

“We knew we were going to lose two or three midfield players, so they are welcome additions to the squad from a positional point of view and also from the quality point of view too.”

Mac Allister was also the only player to average two-plus shots (2.68), two-plus tackles (2.18) and 50+ passes (56.2) per 90 minutes in last term’s Premier League, among players with 1,000 or more minutes.

That all-round approach and energetic demeanour makes the 24-year-old a suitable fit for Klopp’s high-pressing philosophy, in the opinion of Barnes.

“It’s not all about what impresses me, but he’s the type of player who will suit our style,” Barnes said of Mac Allister, who hit 10 league goals for Brighton last term.

“He may not be able to play for Manchester City but that doesn’t mean he’s better or worse. It’s just that we have to sign players that suit our style and are hardworking all-action midfield players.

“He’s not a Bernardo Silva type, but he suits what we want. Liverpool have always done that and looked to get players who suit their system, regardless of how other good other people think they are, or not.

“He suits our midfield profile and the template of a midfield player that we want. Hardworking, aggression and playing the ball forward quickly. He suits our style perfectly.”

  • Klopp satisfied with Reds’ new squad display in Furth draw

Klopp satisfied with Reds’ new squad display in Furth draw

Jurgen Klopp expressed his satisfaction with Liverpool’s “top-class” training camp in Germany, despite his side being held to a surprising 4-4 draw by second-tier Greuther Furth.

In the behind-closed-doors match, the Reds initially took the lead 1-0 and later extended it to 3-1, but they faced a setback as they fell behind 4-3.

Fortunately, Mohamed Salah scored a last-minute equalizer to salvage a draw and prevent an embarrassing defeat.

Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez (twice) were also among the scorers in the rollercoaster match, and Klopp, who is 56 years old, views the trip to his homeland as a positive experience for his new-look squad.

Despite the mixed result, the training camp appears to have been beneficial for Liverpool’s preparations for the upcoming season.

He told the club’s website: “You could see now, last day of the camp. Travel, play, travel — it is always a bit exhausting.

“But that’s it and you have to go through it, that’s what we did. Most importantly, nobody got injured.

“Of course, nobody wants to concede four goals but you saw in the second half, we were too late in mind, passed the balls too late, first touch not good, and that’s how we brought them back into the game.

“We scored, on the other hand, some really, really nice goals, to be honest.

“So, a lot of good individual performances and that’s most important, that we have like 50-ish minutes for everybody and, again, nobody got injured. A good camp and I’m really happy.”

New Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been relishing his recent journey with the club.

The 24-year-old Argentine, who is a World Cup winner, made a move to the Merseyside from Brighton for an initial fee of £35 million just last month.

Over the past two weeks, he has showcased his skills in matches against Furth and Karlsruher.

On his opening outings, Mac Allister said: “There is a lot of positive things [to take from the camp].

“I am a new player so I still have to know my team-mates, their strengths and their weaknesses, but I think there are really good players here and we can build something important.

“The welcome from the team was amazing and they are helping me every day so I can do my best on the pitch, so it’s a really good team.”

The Reds now head home before a trip to Singapore, where further friendlies against Leicester and Bayern Munich lie in store.
