LeBron James makes history as the first to score over 50,000 points

LeBron James has become the first player in NBA history to reach 50,000 combined points, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 136-115 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The 40-year-old hit this milestone early in the first quarter after receiving a pass from Luka Doncic and sinking a 25-foot three-pointer.

James, who is already the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, finished the game with 34 points, bringing his total career points to 60,149—6,000 more than second-placed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

His record includes 41,871 regular-season points and 8,162 postseason points, making him the top scorer in both categories.

“I’m not going to sugar-coat it – it’s a hell of a lot of points,” said James.

“I’m super blessed to be able to put up that many points in my career in the best league in the world and against the best players in the world – it’s pretty special.”

James achieved this milestone in his 22nd NBA season, matching Vince Carter for the most seasons played in league history.

He received strong support from Luka Doncic, who recorded 30 points, 15 assists, and eight rebounds. Their efforts helped the Lakers secure their seventh consecutive win, moving them up to second place in the Western Conference standings.

Lakers legend Earvin Magic Johnson led the tributes to James on social media following the achievement.
“Congratulations to the King LeBron James for becoming the only player in NBA history to score 50,000 regular season and playoff points!” Johnson wrote on X.

Earlier on Tuesday, James was also named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Month after he averaged 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists last month, becoming the oldest player to earn the award.

LeBron James scored 30 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a crucial victory over the Denver Nuggets, keeping their hopes alive in the Western Conference first-round playoffs.

Despite being 3-0 down in the best-of-seven series, the Lakers staged a comeback on Saturday, winning 119-108 in Los Angeles.

James received strong support from Anthony Davis, who contributed 25 points and 23 rebounds, ending an 11-game losing streak against the Nuggets.

“We’ve given ourselves another life, another lifeline,” James, 39, said.

“The only opportunity for us is just to play the next game.”

LeBron James is aiming for his fifth NBA title and his first with the Los Angeles Lakers since 2020. The fifth game of the series against the Denver Nuggets is scheduled to take place in Denver on Monday.

In the Eastern Conference, Jayson Tatum played a key role in the Boston Celtics’ 104-84 victory over the Miami Heat, scoring 22 points with 11 rebounds and six assists. The Celtics, who are the top seeds in the NBA, lead the series 2-1.

Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic leveled their playoff series at 2-2 with a 112-89 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. In the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder took a commanding 3-0 lead with a 106-85 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, has revealed his decision to enter the 2024 draft.

This announcement comes shortly after the 19-year-old experienced a cardiac arrest during practice at the University of Southern California (USC) less than a year ago.

Following surgery to address a congenital heart defect, Bronny made a remarkable recovery and returned to the court, making his college debut for USC in December.

Messi has changed the face of USA football! – NBA star LeBron James on the ‘GOAT’s impact

NBA superstar LeBron James believes that Lionel Messi’s arrival in the MLS has brought about a “game-changing” impact throughout the USA.

James ensured his presence at Messi’s Miami debut against Cruz Azul in the League Cup back in July 2023. Witnessing Messi’s brilliant free-kick goal in the final minute of injury time, securing a memorable win for the Herons, James enjoyed a wonderful time in the stands.

Following the match, the basketball legend approached Messi and warmly welcomed the record Ballon d’Or winner to the United States.

Since Messi’s arrival, the Lakers player has shown a keen interest in soccer and emphasised that the presence of the 2022 World Cup winner will play a pivotal role in inspiring the next generation of fans to embrace the sport.

“Seeing Messi, the GOAT of soccer, honour the MLS with his presence is a total game-changer for us,” he said in a conversation with Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

“His arrival not only elevates the league but also inspires a new generation of football fans in our country. It takes unparalleled dedication, work ethic and talent to achieve what Messi has, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for him. I wish him all the best.”

Despite Lionel Messi’s widespread admiration and respect from millions of fans worldwide, he faced criticism from disappointed supporters in the Far East after missing Inter Miami’s friendly match in Hong Kong on Sunday.

The legendary player, currently on a jet-setting international tour, attributed his absence to “bad luck” caused by an injury. While Messi has moved on to Japan for the team’s next assignment, he remains uncertain about his fitness for the upcoming match against Vissel Kobe on Wednesday.

This friendly encounter marks the final leg of their extensive tour, which has taken them from El Salvador to Japan via the Middle East.

Upon their return to the US, they are scheduled to play another friendly against Messi’s first club, Newell’s Old Boys, before kicking off their 2024 MLS campaign with a home match against Real Salt Lake on February 21st.

LeBron confirms family is ‘safe and healthy’ after Bronny’s cardiac arrest

NBA superstar LeBron James has assured everyone that his family is doing well after his son experienced a cardiac arrest.

On Tuesday, James was spotted arriving at Cedar Sinai Hospital, donning a face mask and carrying what appeared to be an iPad.

According to CNN’s report on Wednesday, Bronny, LeBron’s son, had undergone a cardiac screening a few months ago as part of a program for potential NBA players, and the results had shown to be normal.

A spokesperson for the James family confirmed on Tuesday that Bronny had suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice session the previous day.

Thankfully, it seems that his condition is stable, and the family is coping with the situation.

“Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital,” a James family spokesperson said at the time. “He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU.”

In his first statement after the incident, James said all members of the family are healthy.

He also used the opportunity to thank all who prayed for his family during this trying period.

“I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love.”

He noted that the family “will have more to say when we’re ready.”

But for now, “I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!”

Meet LeBron James’ wife and his three kids

LeBron James has undoubtedly cemented himself as one of the most thrilling NBA players in history.

Throughout his illustrious 20-year career, the Los Angeles Lakers star has earned four championships and numerous accolades, captivating fans with his incredible skills on the court.

However, beyond his sporting prowess, the 38-year-old LeBron takes immense pride in being a devoted father.

Off the basketball court, he embraces his role as a loving dad to his three children, Bronny, Bryce, and Zhuri, whom he shares with his wife Savannah. LeBron’s dedication to both his family and his sport has made him a true inspiration to many.

In July 2023, Bronny, 18, “suffered a cardiac arrest,” while practicing, according to a statement from the James family.  “Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital.  He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU.  We ask for respect and privacy for the James family, and we will update the media when there is more information.”

LeBron opened up about how being a dad has helped him be better as a teammate in a 2018 appearance on The Tim Ferriss Show. “They all are different, and I had to find out how to tap into each one of my kids to get the same results but teach them differently, and that’s the same with being the leader of a basketball team or a franchise,” he said.

LeBron and Savannah, high school sweethearts, became parents to their first son, Bronny, in 2004, just as LeBron embarked on his NBA journey. Bronny has undoubtedly inherited his father’s basketball talents and is proving to be an exceptional player in his own right.

Although currently a high school star, it appears highly probable that he will continue his family’s legacy and follow in his dad’s footsteps to pursue a career in the NBA.

Of course, having your dad be the GOAT can only help your basketball skills, and LeBron has regularly trained with his sons to help them get better at the game. Bronny opened up about following in his dad’s footsteps in a 2022 profile in Sports Illustrated.

“I was born into it, so I feel like the path was already chosen,” he said. “My dad is cool enough to let me take whatever path I want if I wanted to not pursue basketball. But I think basketball is going to be my thing, for sure.”

Bronny has been a standout talent in basketball from a young age, catching the attention of recruiters even as a kid. Colleges began offering him scholarships as early as 11 years old, as reported by ESPN.

In 2023, during his senior year, Bronny achieved the prestigious title of being named a “McDonald’s All-American” player, mirroring the recognition his father, LeBron, received 20 years earlier.

In a profile by Sports Illustrated, Bronny expressed his aspirations of playing in the NBA. Interestingly, LeBron has been vocal about his desire to share the court with his son in the NBA, expressing this sentiment in various interviews and through his Twitter account.

The idea of a father-son duo in the league has generated excitement and anticipation among basketball fans.

LeBron James’ son Bronny 18, suffers cardiac arrest at practise

Son of NBA star LeBron James, Bronny James experienced a cardiac arrest while participating in basketball practice at the University of Southern California. He was subsequently hospitalized on Monday, as confirmed by a family spokesperson.

Thankfully, he has now been moved out of the intensive care unit and is reported to be in stable condition, according to the statement.

“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU,” the statement said.

“We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.

“LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”

At the age of 18, Bronny is set to join USC’s basketball team as an incoming freshman, following his graduation from Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles this spring. As a highly-regarded four-star recruit, he showcased his talent and abilities during the McDonald’s All-American Game in March, which featured some of the nation’s top high school basketball players.

LeBron James, left, poses with his son Bronny after Sierra Canyon beat Akron St. Vincent – St. Mary in a high school basketball game on December 14, 2019, in Columbus, Ohio.

He averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals his senior year of high school, and joined a USC team seeking to reach the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive time.

“So damn proud of you kid!” his father wrote on Instagram after Bronny committed to attend USC. “I have no words besides I LOVE YOU!!!”

James, 38, will enter his 21st season in the NBA and his sixth season with the Los Angeles Lakers. The four-time NBA champion and four-time MVP has said one of his final goals is to play in the NBA with his son.

“My last year will be played with my son,” James told the Athletic in 2022. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”

Cardiac arrest means that the heart suddenly stops beating. Last year, Damar Hamlin of the NFL’s Buffalo Bills suffered a cardiac arrest in the middle of a primetime game and was hospitalized for over a week.

“Prayers to Bronny & The James family as well,” Hamlin wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “Here for you guys just like you have been for me my entire process.”

NBA: Steph Curry describes his relationship with LeBron James as a ‘complex’ one

    Stephen Curry has
described his relationship with LeBron James as “complex.” The two NBA superstars have been dominant forces in the league for the past decade, collectively winning eight NBA championships.

As the star player for the Golden State Warriors, Curry has been one of the biggest rivals of LeBron James, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Their teams, the Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers, faced each other in four consecutive NBA Finals from 2015 to 2018.

Interestingly, both Curry and James were born in the same hospital in Akron, Ohio, with just under four years separating their births.

They have crossed paths on numerous occasions since then, with James even attending one of Curry’s Sweet Sixteen games during his sophomore year.

Curry even shared that he visited James’ house at one point.

Over the years, Curry has established himself as one of the best players in the world, winning the MVP award twice and setting various records during the 2016 season, leading the Warriors to a remarkable 73-9 season.

Their encounters on the court have undoubtedly contributed to the complexity of their relationship as fierce competitors in the NBA.

Curry and the Warriors beat James and the Cavaliers 3-1 in four NBA Finals. Their rivalry was certainly real during this period

    Curry discusses relationship with LeBron

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Curry said their relationship is weird:

“It’s complex,” Curry said. “Becuase you go from playing in the tournament and him coming to watch, to me coming in as a young rookie in the league and him giving me advice on how to get through some of the early struggles that I was gonna go through as a player, to the four Finals appearances in a row, playing against each other, to even last year playing in the playoffs again,” via CBS Sports.

  • LeBron to return for another NBA season with Lakers

LeBron to return for another NBA season with Lakers

LeBron James has announced his decision to continue playing for the Los Angeles Lakers in the upcoming NBA season.

The 38-year-old basketball superstar, during the ESPYs, confirmed that he will be entering his 21st NBA season and his sixth season with the Lakers.

His announcement came as he accepted the ESPY award for Best Record-Breaking Performance, acknowledging his achievement of surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA’s all-time scoring list in the previous season.

“I don’t care how many more points I can score or what I can or can’t do on the floor,” James said. “The real question for me, can I play without cheating the game? The day I can’t play without giving everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today.”

After the Los Angeles Lakers’ defeat to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference finals at the end of the previous season, LeBron James expressed uncertainty about his return to the team.

This sentiment differed significantly from his previous statements, in which he expressed a desire to play alongside his eldest son, Bronny, in the NBA.

Despite the initial uncertainty, James, the basketball superstar, has now confirmed his decision to continue playing.

In the 2022-23 season, he delivered another outstanding performance, maintaining an impressive average of 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists across 55 games.

  • Lakers’ Carmelo Anthony retires from NBA

Lakers’ Carmelo Anthony retires from NBA

Basketball icon Carmelo Anthony, regarded as one of the NBA’s all-time great players, has declared his retirement from the sport.

The 38-year-old last competed with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2021/22 season but did not participate in the league this year.

Over the course of his illustrious career, spanning 19 NBA seasons, Anthony attained numerous accolades, including 10 All-Star Game selections and 6 appearances in the All-NBA team.

Making the announcement through a social media video, he also highlighted his achievement as the NBA scoring champion during the 2012/13 season, with an impressive average of 28.7 points per game.

    Carmelo Anthony

He retires as the No. 9 scorer in NBA history. He retires with 28,289 points. Anthony also won three gold medals with the USA Basketball team in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

He suited up for the Nuggets (2003-2011), Knicks (2011-2017), Thunder (2017-2018), Rockets (2018-2019), Trail Blazers (2019-2021) and Lakers (2021-2022).

His legacy is solid in the NBA. He was named as one of the 75 greatest players in NBA history. Nevertheless, he never got to the NBA Finals. He reached the conference finals in 2009 with the Nuggets, but they lost to the Kobe Bryant-led Lakers, per ESPN.

    What Anthony said

In his emotional video announcement, Anthony was thankful

“I remember the days when I had nothing. Just a ball on the court and a dream of something more. But basketball was my outlet. My purpose was strong, my communities, the cities I represented with pride and the fans that supported me along the way.

I am forever grateful for those people and places because they made me Carmelo Anthon. But now the time has come for me to say goodbye. To the court where I made my name, to the game that gave me purpose and pride. With this bittersweet goodbye to the NBA,” via the Athletic.

Anthony was drafted No. 3 overall by the Nuggets in 2003 and was part of the star-studded class that included LeBron James at No. 1, Hall of Famer Chris Bosh at No. 4, and Dwyane Wade at No. 5.

Anthony and James watch their sons

Sports Brief earlier reported on Anthony and James watching their sons face off in high school.

LeBron’s sons, Bronny and Bryce James, and Carmelo’s son Kiyan Anthony stole the show in an exciting high school basketball game in December 2022.

Kiyan Anthony ended with 10 points, but he was slightly overshadowed by the impressive display of Bronny James, who had 12 points.

LeBron James misses six of his three-pointers in Nuggets game

LeBron James endured a challenging fourth quarter during the LA Lakers’ disappointing defeat to the Denver Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.

The four-time MVP had a tough time finding his rhythm, missing all six of his three-point attempts, with three of them coming in the crucial final period.

In addition, James struggled with a shot that rebounded off the backboard too forcefully in the closing stages of the game. To compound matters, he faced a defensive setback as Bruce Brown managed to strip him of the ball in the dying seconds.

It was an uncharacteristically difficult performance for LeBron James, highlighting the tough circumstances he faced during the game, contributing to the Lakers’ loss.

Skip Bayless quickly pounced on his poor display with this: “LeBron James: no clutch gene.”

The Fox Sports analyst has been harping on James’ supposedly inability to come up big time. He has often reminded basketball fans that the 19x All-Star is no match to Michael Jordan when it comes to clutch situations.

James, of course, has had several game-winners and buzzer-beaters in his career in the playoffs. He just couldn’t get it done in the fourth quarter in Game 2 against the Denver Nuggets.

“King James,” who is usually deadly within point-blank range missed a layup when the score was 103-99 in favor of Denver. James’ miss led to two free throws for Jamal Murray who extended the Nuggets’ lead to 105-99.

With the Nuggets leading 108-103, the Lakers desperately pushed the ball up court with 12.6 seconds left in the game. James, however, lost the ball to Brown, which sealed the game for Denver and a 2-0 lead in the conference finals.

See how Lakers LeBron hysterically eavesdropped on opponents convo with coach

During Game 1 of their playoff series, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers was sported monitoring the Memphis Grizzlies.

With role players thriving against the No. 2 seed, the Lakers pulled off a comfortable 128-112 victory.

The 38-year-old finished his 267th playoff game with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. He was quiet but effective.

James is also playing in his 51st playoff series, tying Derek Fisher for the most by a player in NBA history, per ESPN.

Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura stole the show for the 17-time NBA champions, scoring a combined 52 points.

    James eavesdrops on Brooks

In the second quarter, Brooks was called over by Grizzlies coach, Taylor Jenkins who wanted to pass a message. As he strode towards Jenkins, James hilariously followed him.

As Brooks leaned in to hear what his coach was saying, the scoring king did the same.

It is common for opposing players to sneak into the opponent’s huddles. Lance Stephenson famously did the same when his Indiana Pacers faced James’s Miami Heat in the playoffs in 2014.

The Grizzlies’ defeat was overshadowed by a hand injury to franchise player, Ja Morant. It is unclear if the point guard will return in Game 2 on Wednesday night.

    Brooks wants to beat James

It was earlier reported on Brooks saying he is looking forward to playing against James, saying it will be a good test for his team.

However, the Grizzlies star added that it would be great to knock the 38-year-old Lakers veteran out of the playoffs early in the contest.

Brooks talked about the legacy of the ‘scoring king’, admitting LeBron’s Los Angeles team would definitely test the from Memphis team.

  • LeBron likely to miss Clippers game

LeBron likely to miss Clippers game

LeBron James was crucial to the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory over the Utah Jazz, but he might not be available when they play the Los Angeles Clippers.

Tuesday’s 135-133 overtime victory in Salt Lake City clinched the Lakers’ place in the Western Conference play-in playoffs.

The Lakers, who are now in seventh place, have three games left to play in the regular season, but they still have a chance to clinch a playoff spot without having to advance through the play-in round. On Wednesday, they play the Clippers, a team from their city who are now ranked above them with a 41-38 record.

However, that strain might limit James’ availability for Wednesday.

“The extra five minutes definitely didn’t help. It definitely didn’t help but we needed to get the win,” James told reporters, before explaining his process of deeming whether or not he would be able to feature against the Clippers.

“How my foot feels when I wake up and I step out of bed,” he added.

“That’s been the most important since I’ve injured it five weeks ago. The next day after either rehab or training or treatment, whatever. It’s always that.”

Anthony Davis was unusually slack with his shooting, managing just seven-of-16 from the field and seven-of-12 from the free throw line for 21 points, though he still contributed 14 rebounds and six assists.

Davis has not played in back-to-back games since returning from a right foot issue earlier in 2023, and like James, he was unsure on whether he would face the Clippers.

    “I haven’t played in a back-to-back in a long time,” Davis said.

“So, I mean, we’ll all get on a phone call or something tomorrow morning and go from there.”

Coach Darvin Ham confirmed no decision had yet been taken.

“We have our short-term business that we need to take care of and our long-term business that we need to take care of,” Ham said.

“We prioritise a player’s health, first and foremost. Regardless of what the stakes are or the implications of with a win or a loss or all of that.

“We need our players to know that we care about their health, first and foremost.

“If we see that they won’t have any issues, in terms of their health, and we’re not putting them at risk, then we’ll proceed.

“If there’s any kind of question marks, we’ll walk through them, talk through them, and go from there.”

LeBron James eyes championship as Lakers chemistry gets better

The Los Angeles Lakers improved their chances of making the playoffs on Sunday with their third straight victory, and LeBron James insists they are still hoping to win a championship this year.

The Lakers defeated the Houston Rockets 134-109 to raise their record to 40-38 with four games remaining, moving them up to seventh place in the Western Conference behind the losers from the weekend, the Los Angeles Clippers (41-38) and Golden State Warriors (41-38).

The Los Angeles Lakers are in front of the New Orleans Pelicans (40-38), holding the head-to-head tiebreaker.

The top six teams advance automatically to the playoffs, while teams seven through ten compete in a play-in round.

Following a series of trades in February including the additions of D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura and Malik Beasley with Russell Westbrook departing, the Lakers have stormed into playoff contention, winning 10 of their past 14 games.

“We just want to put ourselves in the position to compete for a championship,” James told reporters.

“It’s a journey and obviously we don’t have as much chemistry as a lot of other teams that have aspirations to win a championship, but we’ve been building over the last month or so.

“These last four games are very important for our team, not only wins and losses but also the chemistry side as well.

“We need to continue to build what we’ve been building over the last month or so. We’ll see what happens.”

James had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to match Jason Kidd for 107 career triple-doubles, which is fourth overall in NBA history.

Anthony Davis played a key role with 40 points, including 27 in the first half, with James saying his All-Star team-mate was “making magic right now”.

Russell only played 15 minutes for six points, not returning after half-time due to left foot soreness but Lakers head coach Darvin Ham downplayed any major issue.

“It was definitely precautionary,” Ham said. “He could have continued the game if we needed him to. The bodies we have available to us now, we just didn’t want to risk it.”

  • Anthony Davis takes blame for his “terrible” performance in Lakers’ loss to the Knicks

Anthony Davis takes blame for his “terrible” performance in Lakers’ loss to the Knicks

Anthony Davis referred to his own performance as “terrible” and took full responsibility for the Los Angeles Lakers’ Sunday loss to the New York Knicks.

Due to the narrow loss, the Lakers are now 33-35 in the race for a playoff spot in the West, missing the opportunity to get back to.500.

Davis struggled to lead the team without LeBron James, managing just 17 points and 16 rebounds while making just one of five free throw attempts.

In addition to his eight-of-18 field goal shooting, Davis had four assists, two steals, a block, and four rebounds. The power forward claimed that “my play” was to blame for the team’s defeat.

“I played terrible,” Davis told reporters. “Couldn’t find my shot: free throws, layups, everything. The guys did their job. I didn’t do my job.”

Davis had little impact down the stretch with the game up for grabs, shooting one-of-four from the field.

“I just missed a lot of shots,” he said. “I don’t think they did anything special. A lot of times one-on-one, they doubled a couple of times.”

The Lakers’ three-game winning streak may have been halted, but there was some good news with James, who was out of a walking boot and rejoined the team.

The four-time MVP has not played since February 26 and will be re-evaluated next week, potentially offering the Lakers a major boost in their push for the playoffs if they can stay in contention in the meantime.

“It’s also good for him to unplug a little bit,” Lakers head coach Darvin Ham said about James’ break. “Not be detached necessarily, but just mentally get a little bit of a calming to everything that’s transpired over the year.

“It’s not just about him getting healthy, it’s about him being in a good place mentally and spiritually, so we get the best version of him when he returns.”

The Lakers (33-35) are 11th in the Western Conference, which is tightly contested from the fourth-placed Phoenix Suns (37-30) down to the 12th-placed New Orleans Pelicans (33-35)

LeBron’s injury to be reassessed in three weeks

According to the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James‘ foot ailment will be reevaluated in three weeks.

The 38-year-old missed Sunday’s win over the Dallas Mavericks, the loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, and the triumph over the Oklahoma City Thunder because of an injury he suffered in the third quarter.

A team statement said: “LeBron James has been evaluated by Lakers team physicians and medical staff and it has been determined that he has sustained a right foot tendon injury.

LeBron’s Lakers complete biggest comeback of the season with 27 points ahead of Dallas Mavericks

The biggest comeback of the season was pulled off by the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks after they fell behind by 27 points.

The Lakers were down 48-21 early in the second quarter before rallying to win 111-108, their third straight victory and biggest comeback since 2002.

trade deadline purchase In the victory over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, Malik Beasley made his entrance known with a 25-point outburst, and this time, Jarred Vanderbilt proved why he has earned a spot in the Lakers’ starting lineup.

The rangy six-foot-eight defensive menace was everywhere, working as the primary defender on Luka Doncic on his way to 15 points (six-of-eight shooting), 17 rebounds (eight offensive) and four steals in his 27 minutes.

Anthony Davis was the star of the show on the offensive end, scoring a game-high 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting with 15 rebounds and four assists, and the league’s active leader for career blocked shots per game swatted away three Maverick attempts.

LeBron James had an injury scare, and while he is still not out of the woods, he stayed in the game and put up 26 points on 10-of-23 shooting with eight rebounds.

For the Mavericks, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving shot a combined 18-of-44 (40 per cent) from the field for 47 points, while the other three members of the starting line-up combined for 18 points.

With the win, the Lakers improved their record to 29-32 and now sit just one game out of the Play-In Tournament placings, while they are also just 2.5 games away from the Mavericks in the sixth seed.

Damian Lillard matched Donovan Mitchell’s season-best 71 points as he scored 13 three-pointers in the Portland Trail Blazers’ 131-114 win over the Houston Rockets.

The Blazers guard’s 71-point mark was both a franchise and career high, topping his previous record of 61.

Lillard had 41 points with eight triples by half-time, the most points of any player in a half this season. He shot 13-of-22 from beyond the arc for the game, having a perfect 14-of-14 from the line.

    Klay stays hot

After 42 points and 12 three-pointers on Friday’s win, Klay Thompson led the Golden State Warriors to a 109-104 home win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The future Hall of Fame sharpshooter hit another six threes on his way to a team-high 32 points, shooting 12-of-23 from the field and six-of-14 from deep. Donte DiVincenzo was strong in a supporting role, chipping in 21 points (seven-of-13 shooting), eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

After shooting a red-hot 43.1 per cent on a gaudy 11.6 three-point attempts per game in the month of January, Thompson has elevated even further this month, getting up 12.1 attempts per game and connecting at 45.9 per cent.

  • Ham says Lakers do not discuss LeBron’s record chase

Ham says Lakers do not discuss LeBron’s record chase

LeBron James’ pursuit of the NBA points record is rarely discussed by the Los Angeles Lakers, claims head coach Darvin Ham.

The Lakers rallied to defeat the Pacers 112-111 on Thursday, led by James’ 26 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

James now has 38,325 points in his amazing career, leaving him 62 points short of Kareem Abdul-all-time Jabbar’s record.

It implies that James will probably set a new record the following week when playing the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Lakers, according to Ham, do not view it as a major issue.

“I think it’s an amazing feat,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham told reporters.

“When it happens, kudos to Bron for all his longevity and not just longevity, but longevity at the top of the list at an elite level.

    http://tigpost.co/lebron-scores-46-as-clippers-continue-domination-over-lakers/

“But our day-to-day, we hardly ever discuss it unless we’re asked about it. For us, it’s just, how can we get our team in the best position to make a run?”

James, though, did not look to downplay the importance of the record.

“I think it’s one of the greatest records in sports, in general. It’s like the home run record in baseball,” he said.

    http://tigpost.co/lebron-reaches-38000-career-points-as-lakers-lose-late-to-76ers/

“It’s one of those records that you don’t ever see or think will be broken.

“You see guys like Hank Aaron, who had [baseball’s home run record] for so long. You see guys like Sammy [Sosa] and Mark McGwire and you start climbing it and it’s like, ‘Oh, this could really happen.’

“It’s a fun thing as a sports person. It was fun watching those guys chasing it.”

Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 31 points and 14 rebounds, and it was his 11-foot shot with 35 seconds left put Los Angeles ahead, before he made a crucial block from Tyrese Haliburton.

Davis missed out on selection for the All-Star Game, though that was of little concern.

“I’m here to win, to try to compete for championships, not to get into All-Star Games,” Davis said.

“My wife is ecstatic. She already texted me, ‘So, where we going [during All-Star break]?’”

LeBron scores 46 as Clippers continue domination over Lakers

The Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 133-115 on Tuesday, despite LeBron James scoring 46 points.

With a recent record of 36-9, the Clippers have now defeated the Lakers 10 times in a row. With a 26-24 record after the victory, the Clippers move up to fifth place in the west, passing the Lakers, who currently sit in 13th place with a 22-26 record.

The Clippers’ highest scorer was Paul George, who led the team with 27 points on 11-of-20 shooting, nine rebounds, and four assists. The club made 19 three-pointers at a 50% clip.

  • LeBron hails sensational comeback against Trail Blazers

LeBron hails sensational comeback against Trail Blazers

The Los Angeles Lakers overcame a 25-point hole to defeat the Portland Trail Blazers in a game of two halves on Sunday at the Moda Center.

The Lakers had just been on the wrong end of the joint second-largest scoring differential in a quarter since the NBA added the three-point arc in 1979 when they entered the half behind by 25 points.

In the second quarter, Portland outscored the guests 45-13, but LeBron James and his teammates refused to quit.

The Lakers overcame a 25-point deficit to win by nine points in the second half by scoring 75 points while allowing just 41.

“I guess it’s only one or two ways, you can either go out and you can lay down and get ready for the next game or you can see what happens in the third quarter, make a game of it,” James said after the victory.

“And for us as competitors, and our team and our makeup this year, we’re not a lay-down team. That’s just not the makeup of our club.”

James scored 37 with 11 rebounds as he closed in further on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record, while Thomas Bryant added 31 with 14 rebounds as the Lakers produced their second-biggest half-time deficit comeback win in franchise history.

“They jumped on us and knocked us down,” James added. “Thank God for the standing eight count.”

LeBron reaches 38,000 career points as Lakers lose late to 76ers

On Sunday, as the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Philadelphia 76ers 113-112, LeBron James passed Russell Westbrook as the second player to reach 38,000 career NBA points.

Joel Embiid missed a two-point attempt with 16 seconds left in the game, giving the Sixers a one-point lead. Westbrook recovered but was unable to get off a clean shot or pass away as the clock ran out due to Embiid and Georges Niang’s defense.

James’ noteworthy accomplishment of hitting the 38,000-point plateau in the first quarter was somewhat tarnished by the game’s outcome. James finished with 35 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who has 38,387 career points, is the only other player in NBA history to surpass James in scoring. Next month, James is expected to surpass Abdul-Jabbar in scoring.

The Sixers’ Joel Embiid led all scorers with 35 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the field and two three-pointers in a close contest. In addition, Embiid had four assists and 11 rebounds. James Harden made a 24 point, 7 rebound, and 13 assist contribution.

Westbrook contributed 20 points, 14 rebounds, 11 assists, but also four mistakes in 34 minutes of bench time. That was the 198th triple-double of Westbrook’s career.

Aaron Gordon added 25 points with eight rebounds and five assists, while Jamal Murray delivered 18 points with three three-pointers and seven assists.

  • Basketball trainer for some of NBA’s biggest stars arrested on rape charge

A high-profile basketball trainer who has worked with NBA superstars such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry, was arrested last week and charged with rape.

As reported by ESPN, Rob McClanaghan is accused of raping and drugging a woman at a hotel in downtown Boston. The 43-year-old was arrested in Rhode Island on Friday and arraigned in court Monday, after the Boston Police Sexual Assault Unit and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office issued a warrant for his arrest.

“The suspect was transported by the BPD Fugitive Unit in coordination with members of the Warwick RI Police Department for booking at their department facility,” authorities said in a press release. “McClanaghan will be arraigned on Monday at the Third District Court in Kent County, Rhode Island where he will be charged as a Fugitive from Justice.”

It’s unclear when and where the alleged incident occurred.

When reached for comment on the charges, McClanaghan’s lawyer Dan Griffin told ESPN: “No comment. Zero.”

ABC’s Boston affiliate WCVB-TV reached out to the Celtics for a statement, as C’s center Al Horford is a client of McClanaghan’s.

A spokesperson for the team confirmed that McClanaghan, who previously worked with Boston’s interim head coach Joe Mazzullais at local high school Bishop Hendricken, is not employed by the Celtics.

  • Odell Beckham Jr. sues Nike for over $20 million, shares statement claiming company ‘did not honor its commitments’

Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has filed a lawsuit against Nike, saying the Oregon-based conglomerate “screwed him out of millions.”

OBJ released the following statement regarding the lawsuit: “Being a Nike Athlete and Brand Icon was a dream I’ve had since being a young boy. I wanted to be the next Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, LeBron James or Kobe Bryant in the Nike Family. When Nike exercised its right of first refusal to match the Adidas offer and not only kept me as a Nike Athlete, but also made me one of their Brand Icons—my dream had been fulfilled. Unfortunately, Nike did not honor its commitments. Throughout our partnership, I have kept my promise and fulfilled my obligations to the brand. I am extremely disappointed that I’ve had to take these measures to ensure Nike fulfills their obligations and promises.”

Beckham continued, “Today, I’m taking a stand not just for me, but to set a precedent for all athletes who have dedicated their life to the sport they love—especially those who don’t have the means to stand up for themselves. We are held responsible for fulfilling our obligations under our contracts, but we also have to hold powerful companies like Nike accountable for honoring their commitments too. I look forward to resolving this issue and hope we can start a real conversation about protecting athletes and their rights. This happens too often in the sports industry and it’s time for change. As this is now a legal matter, please refer any questions to my attorney, Daniel Davillier.”

Odell claims he wanted to switch to Adidas after his original deal with Nike expired in 2017, but the company exercised its right to match the multi-million-dollar offer from its rival. Since then, Beckham says, Nike withheld millions in compensation and royalties.

Beckham claims that when Nike met the exact terms in Adidas’ offer, the company also agreed to make him a “Brand Icon,” allegedly the first player in the NFL to receive such a title. OBJ alleges Nike didn’t exactly match the language in the Adidas deal, which led to problems between the two down the road.

Their relationship took a turn for the worse when Nike allegedly kept just over $2 million of the nearly $2.6 million he was owed in March 2022. Beckham alleges he contacted Nike about the discrepancy in pay, but also questioned the status of his guaranteed extension. Beckham was allegedly told by Nike that he failed to meet the required benchmark by almost $70 million. He attributes the dispute over the threshold to “incorrect language” in their deal.

Odell alleges Nike “stopped actively manufacturing and/or selling royalty generating products after 2020” in an effort to ensure that he doesn’t meet the aforementioned benchmarks.

As for the nearly $2 million in withheld compensation, Nike allegedly reduced his pay for an alleged footwear violation during one game last season, and an alleged glove violation for two games during the 2021 campaign.

All told, Odell Beckham Jr. alleges he suffered over $20 million in damages.

The news arrives five years after Odell signed his initial contract with Nike. OBJ is currently a free agent, and has spent the first half of the NFL season recovering from the torn ACL he suffered during Super Bowl LVI.

  • LeBron set for scans after ‘groin strain’ in Lakers loss

LeBron James is set for scans after feeling a “groin strain” in the fourth quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ 114-101 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.

James limped off the court with under six minutes remaining and did not return, wincing in pain and grabbing his groin area. The Lakers said at the time he was experiencing “left leg soreness”.

The four-time MVP, who scored 30 points in the game, confirmed that the issue will need medical evaluation.

“I feel good besides for the injury,” James said. “I’ll get pictures on it tomorrow and go from there.

“But I didn’t do anything extreme on the play, it was just when I landed I felt a little spasm or strain in my groin.

“Immediately I came out after the next play down I went to the free-throw line.”

James missed 17 straight games during the 2017-19 season with a left groin tear, but he insisted this is “not as bad”.

The loss left the Lakers with a 2-9 record, having lost four straight games by double-digit margins, and being without James for a stretch would be a major dent to their hopes of pushing back into contention for the playoffs.

Lakers head coach Darvin Ham did not want to speculate on the severity of the injury but admitted there was a balance to be struck in his recovery given the urgency of their situation.

James added: “In order for you to be productive for your teammates you have to take care of your body.”

The 37-year-old is averaging 24.3 points, 8.9 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game this season.

  • LeBron James weighs in on Kyrie Irving’s actions, says former teammate ‘caused some harm to a lot of people’

LeBron James has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding Kyrie Irving.

While speaking to the media following the Lakers’ loss to the Jazz on Friday night, LeBron didn’t shy away from criticizing his former teammate. James declared that Irving, who was suspended by the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday after failing to apologize for sharing an antisemitic film on social media, “caused some harm to a lot of people.”

“It doesn’t matter what color your skin is, how tall you are or what position you’re in,” LeBron said. “If you are promoting, soliciting or saying harmful things to any community that harms people, then I don’t respect it. I don’t condone it.”

James continued, “I hope he understands that what he said was harmful to a lot of people. As humans, none of us are perfect. But I hope he understands what he did or the actions he took was harmful to a lot of people.”

Kyrie sparked backlash last week after posting a link on social media for the documentary Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America, a 2018 film that focuses on antisemitic tropes, including claims that “many famous high-ranking Jews have admitted to worship[ing] Satan or Lucifer.”

When asked about the backlash, Irving downplayed his actions, claiming that he wasn’t promoting anything.

The Nets suspended Kyrie on Thursday, saying the point guard will need to meet a “series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct” before he can return to the team.

His suspension will last for “no less than five games.” Read the Nets’ statement below.

  • LeBron James announces he’s no longer a Dallas Cowboys fan

LeBron James is parting ways with the Dallas Cowboys.

James made the announcement while speaking with Maverick Carter on Instagram Live on Thursday, claiming Cowboys owner Jerry Jones requiring that his team’s players stand for the national anthem four years ago was the last straw.

LeBron confirmed he’s “all in” on his hometown Cleveland Browns, a decision he didn’t seem entirely satisfied with. The Browns are currently tied for third place in the AFC North division with a 2-5 record, as the controversial return of quarterback Deshaun Watson draws near.

Watson was suspended for 11 games in August after being accused of sexual misconduct by two dozen women.

The announcement comes after LeBron teased “something special” for NFL fans on Twitter.

James later revealed his show The Shop would be a part of the Thursday Night Football stream on Prime Video for the Nov. 17 game between the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers.

  • LeBron ‘expected’ Lakers loss to Warriors

LeBron James revealed the Los Angeles Lakers performed as he expected on opening night despite a disappointing defeat to the Golden State Warriors.

Tuesday’s game was always likely to be a tough one for the Lakers, who missed the playoffs last season as the Warriors won the title.

And so it proved, with a dominant third quarter seeing the Warriors ease to a 123-109 victory.

James, entering his 20th season, led the Lakers with 31 points but acknowledged the team will need time at the start of the year working with new coach Darvin Ham.

“For us, I think we are what I expected from tonight,” James said.

“Some great moments, some not so good moments, and that just comes from a team that’s coming together for the first time. There’s a lot of new pieces, a whole new system, coaching staff.

“But I loved the way we competed. Obviously with the turnovers, we’re not going to win ball games like that, but once we start getting on the same page and know where guys are going to be, start going through in our system how we want to perform, that will get better with time.

“It was what I expected. We had some good times, and some other times were not as good as we would like.”

The Lakers had 21 turnovers to the Warriors‘ 18, including 12 from their ‘big three’ of James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook, which the four-time MVP said was “not acceptable”.

That was not the only area in which the Lakers struggled, however, as they were a miserable 25.0 per cent from three-point range, making just 10 of 40 attempts.

The Lakers ranked 22nd in the NBA in three-point shooting last year (34.7 per cent), and James suggested the Warriors – 35.6 per cent on Tuesday and 36.4 per cent in 2021-22 – were letting their opponents shoot.

“We’re getting great looks, but it also could be teams giving us great looks,” James said.

“To be completely honest, we’re not a team that’s constructed of great shooting. That’s just the truth of the matter. It’s not like we’re sitting here with a lot of lasers on our team.

“That doesn’t deter us from trying to get great shots, and when we get those opportunities, we take them. But we’re not sitting here with a load of 40-plus career three-point shooting guys.”

The Lakers have still not won on opening night since 2016.

  • Teen sensation Wembanyama honoured by LeBron ‘alien’ praise

Victor Wembanyama is honoured to have been labelled a “generational talent” and an “alien” by the legendary LeBron James.

Wembanyama is projected to be the number one pick in the NBA Draft next year and the French teenager has demonstrated why during his first trip to America this week.

The 18-year-old once again showed what the hype is all about as he scored 36 points, claimed 11 rebounds and made four blocks for Metropolitans 92 in a 112-106 win over G League Ignite on Thursday.

Over the two exhibition games this week, Wembanyama racked up 73 points, was 22-for-44 shooting, landed nine three-pointers, took 15 rebounds and made nine blocked shots.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar James said of the 7-foot-3 Wembanyama: “Everybody has been labelling this unicorn thing.

“Everybody has been a unicorn for the last two years, but he’s more like an alien. I’ve never seen, no one has ever seen anyone as tall as he is, but as fluid and as graceful as he is out on the floor.”

James added: “His ability to put the ball on the floor, shoot step-back jumpers out of the post, step-back threes, catch-and-shoot threes, block shots… he’s for sure a generational talent.”

Wembanyama was proud when he heard James singing his praises, but will remain grounded.

He said: “It’s obviously an honour to see such great people talk like this about me, but it really doesn’t change anything.

“I was like, ‘Oh that’s cool.’ But no more. I have to try to stay focused. The thing is, I didn’t do anything yet.”

G League coach Jason Hart also had high praise for Wembanyama.

He said: “We will never see another player like that again. Just like I said about Shaq [Shaquille O’Neal], they just don’t come around often.

“The good thing for me coaching, I’m glad I got a chance to play against him at 18. At 24, he’s going to be a whole new player, somebody else’s problem.”
