Ashanti Regional Minister sets up committee for Kumawood growth

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has taken a bold step to revitalize the film industry in the region by setting up a ministerial committee to address the challenges stifling its growth.

In an announcement shared on his Facebook page, Dr. Amoakohene stated, “Today, I officially commissioned a Ministerial Committee on the Movie Industry & Creatives (Kumawood) to drive the growth and transformation of Ghana’s film and creative arts sector.”

The committee has been tasked with diagnosing the current struggles of the industry and formulating policies to attract investment and ensure its long-term sustainability.

Additionally, their mandate includes promoting Ghanaian films on both local and international platforms, strengthening film production infrastructure, and enhancing training opportunities for creatives.

Dr. Amoakohene further emphasized the importance of showcasing Ghanaian storytelling and creativity through film festivals and cultural events while fostering stronger collaboration between industry stakeholders.

Urging the committee to execute its mandate with commitment and unity, he expressed optimism that this initiative would propel Kumawood and the broader creative sector to greater heights.

“We are committed to building a globally competitive film industry that tells the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana,” he affirmed.

That was pretense at C Confion’s funeral – Kwaku Manu on ‘seeming’ unity among Kumawood stars

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has highlighted some problems facing the movie industry, particularly the lack of unity among actors.

His remarks came after the funeral of popular actor and skit maker C Confion, who passed away in December 2024.

The funeral, held on January 11, attracted many celebrities and public figures, who were seen mingling and interacting, giving fans the impression that harmony had been restored within the industry.

However, in an interview on Fakye Showbiz, Kwaku Manu dismissed this idea, stating that the unity seen at the funeral was only for show and that underlying issues still persist in the industry.

“We are workers, not friends. When we are done working, each and everyone has his or her friend. We are not normally united like this.

You are only seeing us smiling and interacting with each other like this because someone is dead,” he said.

Kwaku Manu revealed that he was sidelined for four years because of ongoing problems in the movie industry.

He criticized the way finances are handled, pointing out that funds intended for experienced actors are often redirected to newer actors who have recently gained fame.

According to him, this practice undervalues the contributions of veteran actors and negatively impacts their ability to make a living.

“When the industry got Kwaku Manu, they got apostle John Pra and they got Akrobeto. When you feature all these actors, people would want to watch so it would favour the producers.

“But what they do is that the money they are supposed to use to pay the big actors, they would rather share it among the new famed actors,” he claimed.

Slapping LilWin on set was not a deliberate act – Emelia Brobbey

Ghanaian Kumawood actress Emelia Brobbey has refuted allegations made by fellow actor Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as LilWin, during a movie scene.

In an interview with Gh Page TV on December 23, 2024, the actress clarified that she has no personal animosity toward LilWin and emphasized that the scene where she slapped him with slippers was simply part of the professional act.

“Oh no! It was a movie scene, and I didn’t even know he would take it personally. If I were to take the harsh treatment I had received while on set, I don’t think it would be okay. Why would I want to slap LilWin with slippers? I am sure he (LilWin) wanted to talk about his success story, and some people misconstrued it.

“I remember interviewing Sister Mercy on one of my shows, and she even told me how Nana Ama McBrown slapped her on a movie set, but she understood that it was solely professional, so she didn’t take it to heart. If we were all to take such things personally, I don’t think we all can work together,” she said.

Emelia Brobbey also advised her colleague actor not to take things that happen during acting personally.

“I would advise him not to take things personally when we are acting because that is what the job requires. But if I have done something to him aside from being on set, I am sorry. Moreover, Kwadwo is someone I like, and I wouldn’t think of doing that to him,” she added.

In a December 2024 interview on Lawson TV, LilWin shared his experience of being mistreated by industry professionals when he started his career in acting.

He recalled an incident where an actress slapped him with slippers during a scene.

Who saved Kumawood saga: Dr Likee says he feels Bill Asamoah hates him

The CEO of Miracle Films, Mr. Samuel Nyamekye, recently commended actors like Mercy Asiedu, LilWin, Dr. Likee, Matilda Asare, and Vivian Jill Lawrence for revitalising the Kumawood industry through their consistent production of movies and series on platforms such as YouTube and traditional media.

However, when actor Bill Asamoah was asked during an interview with Poleeno Multimedia about claims that Dr. Likee single-handedly “saved” Kumawood with his highly popular YouTube series, he firmly disagreed with the notion.

“That’s an unfortunate statement. As much as I applaud my younger brother for what he’s doing, we should avoid rushing to overpraise people. When you do that, what message does it send to others in the industry?”

He continued, “Dr. Likee is doing well, but is he the only one working? He has a whole team behind him. So, when people say Dr. Likee saved Kumawood, how do we interpret that? We were working before he entered the industry. Just because someone becomes a favourite of the masses doesn’t mean they are the only one holding everything together.”

But after remaining silent on these comments for some time, Dr. Likee finally addressed it in an interview with Angel FM.

“Look, I am more concerned about the streets. The Kumawood industry isn’t my sole focus. I’m just doing my own thing. I’m not in any competition for the ‘King of Kumawood’ title. The only time I’ll truly be bothered is when the streets turn their back on me. My goal is to provide opportunities for people from the streets to rise and become stars, that’s all.” he stated.

He added, “Look at people like B. Kusi, who’s passed away. The late OD, who was known for his Akan drama, was an excellent actor to the point that they even called him ‘Super OD.’ Osofo Dadzie is also gone. These exceptional actors have left us.”

In a subsequent discussion with Kessben FM, Dr. Likee responded to Bill Asamoah’s remarks, firmly standing by his perspective and offering his own thoughts on the matter.

“People are free to express their opinions, but there’s a way you can say these things that clearly shows the underlying hate you have for me. Let’s move away from unnecessary hate. It’s not my doing that I’ve become who I am today. I don’t climb to the top alone; I always bring others along with me.”

The wedding took place at Ascension Methodist Church in Haatso, Accra, and was attended by several notable figures from the Kumawood industry.

Among the guests were Matilda Asare, Don Little, Big Akwes, and others who came to support their colleague.

Kumawood’s Agya Koo blames collapse of industry on Mahama’s ‘dumsor’

Kumawood star Agya Koo has shared his insights into the factors behind the decline of Ghana’s once-vibrant film industry, noting that frequent power outages during John Dramani Mahama’s presidency had a significant impact on the sector.

“I won’t shy away from the fact that the power issues during Mahama’s time had a huge impact on our industry,” Agya Koo stated during an interview on Lawson Radio.

“Filmmakers depend on reliable electricity to create their work, and without it, production slows down. It contributed to the decline of our industry, and sadly, it wasn’t the only issue.”

Agya Koo’s career, spanning several decades, has solidified him as a key figure in Ghana’s film industry. However, his recent reflections highlight the challenges the sector has faced in recent years.

Known for his iconic roles in Kumawood films, the actor expressed frustration over how frequent power outages in Ghana have disrupted film production, hampering the industry’s output and consistency. While he acknowledged this as a significant issue, he emphasized that it was not the only factor behind the industry’s decline.

Reflecting further on the struggles facing the industry, Agya Koo also addressed rumours suggesting he had assumed a “demigod” status in the film world, clarifying his position and role in the evolving landscape.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQqmu2B-o8w

“Those accusations are baseless,” he asserted firmly. “Yes, I played a major part in the growth of Ghanaian cinema, but I didn’t treat myself like royalty. In the beginning, I didn’t even charge for my work. I just wanted to push the industry forward.”

Agya Koo went on to explain that it wasn’t until later in his career, after establishing himself as a leading actor and producer, that he began requesting a modest fee for his work. “People need to understand that I wasn’t trying to create a sense of entitlement,” he said.

“But as I became more well-known, I had to take my career seriously and ask for compensation for the work I was doing. That’s when the jealousy started to creep in.”

This statement highlights the intricate dynamics within Ghana’s film industry, where early trailblazers often become focal points of discussion, attracting both admiration and criticism as they achieve success.

Agya Koo feels that much of the backlash he experienced stemmed from his swift rise to fame and the public’s perception of his influence in the industry.

“When you become a household name, people tend to have a lot to say, especially if they can’t achieve the same level of success,” he remarked.

Kumawood actress reveals how a friend’s juju ruined her life

Kumawood actress Awo Yaa has shared her painful experiences with alcoholism and spiritual attacks, offering a glimpse into the darker side of the Kumawood movie industry.

Speaking in an interview with Emelia Brobbey, Awo Yaa shared how witchcraft and rivalries within the industry fueled her battle with alcohol addiction and contributed to her prolonged absence from Kumawood.

She admitted to becoming dependent on alcohol, with cravings starting as early as 5:30 am.

According to her, spiritual attacks intensified her addiction, making her irritable and prone to frequent clashes with others.

Despite turning to several so-called men of God for help, she found no solution and ended up spending tens of thousands of cedis without relief.

“There was a time when someone drank alcohol at the funeral and died from alcohol poisoning. People thought it was me. It was at that point that someone told me to be careful of those who call me to go and drink with them,” he said.

She experienced a significant turning point when her friend, Michael Afranie, intervened on her behalf.

Additionally, she shared that her mother had taken her to a church, where the pastor disclosed that a friend had used juju against her, resulting in lost opportunities, including a chance to travel abroad.

“He told me that many of my issues were spiritual and were caused by a friend who had used juju on me,” she said.

Awo Yaa has been sober for 10 years now.

Why arrest someone who wants to know what taxpayers’ monies are used for? – Kumawood actor quizzes

Renowned Kumawood actor, Sylvester Agyapong, has expressed his dismay over the arrest of activist Ralph St. Williams, popularly known as Fellow Ghanaians, during the ‘Enough is Enough‘ demonstration organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a post on X, Agyapong voiced his disappointment, stating, “You have gone to arrest who? You have gone to arrest someone who wants to know what you use Ghana’s money for. It is so sad. If truly that guy has been arrested, I am so sad.”

Reflecting on the scale of the nationwide protest, which drew hundreds of Ghanaians to the streets, the actor criticized the government’s approach to handling the demonstration. “It was a working day and you saw the number. You won’t even think about that. You have failed woefully,” he lamented, further questioning the response of the authorities to the protests.

The #FixTheCountry movement, a prominent civic activism group, confirmed that their member, Ralph St. Williams, had been arrested and detained. Williams admitted to breaking the gate of the facility hosting the stalled National Cathedral project to allow demonstrators to gain access to the site during the protest.

His arrest occurred at Kotoka International Airport while he was en route to Kumasi for mobilization activities ahead of the #SayNoToGalamsey protest, organized by Democracy Hub.

In addition to Williams’ arrest, a viral video circulating on social media has revealed the current state of the National Cathedral project, which commenced in 2020. The footage, shared by a pro-NDC platform, shows a partially constructed structure with small pools of water. Several individuals can be seen working on the site, although the specific nature of their tasks remains unclear.

The video also captured a group of protestors from the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration swimming in what appeared to be a pool of water at the site, further fueling public outrage. X users have since expressed frustration and anger, with many criticizing the government’s handling of the project and questioning the use of taxpayer funds.

Sylvester Agyapong’s remarks come amid growing discontent in the country over issues of accountability, transparency, and the ongoing delays surrounding the National Cathedral project. His sentiments reflect the concerns of many Ghanaians who are demanding answers about how public funds are being utilized in the construction of the cathedral and other national projects.

Dressed in attire representing the NDC, the actors were seen boldly displaying their support for the party.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) staged a mass demonstration today, Tuesday, September 17, across the 16 regions of Ghana to express discontent with the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter’s register.

The opposition party, dissatisfied with the EC’s decision, has mobilized its members, executives, parliamentarians, and stakeholders to march through Accra’s streets and present a petition to the EC.

The protest, starting from the Obra Sports complex, aims to draw public attention to the NDC’s concerns.

Protesters voiced their frustration, stating that the EC’s refusal to honor their request undermines its mandate to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.

They demand accountability and transparency in the electoral process.

The NDC seeks to emphasize the importance of a credible voter’s register ahead of the December elections.

Flowking Stone details how Ghanaian music producers abandoned artistes for Kumawood

Ghanaian musician Kwaku Nsia Boama, also known as Flowking Stone, has detailed how music producers in Ghana ‘abandoned’ artists for the Kumawood industry.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based 3FM, he explained how music producers usually handled the financial aspects of music promotion, including paying for radio slots and DJs.

However, the decline in CD sales and the rise of Kumawood influenced many of these producers to shift from music production to movie production.

“Those days when we used to come to radio, there were producers who used to release our songs and fund them. They would take the songs to DJs and pay them.

Now, there came a time when the producers left to pursue movies when Kumawood was at its peak, and music was not thriving like before,” he mentioned.

Flowking Stone highlighted that artists were now left to bear the financial burden of promoting their music, including paying for dancers, radio and TV promotions, and digital ads.

“There was a significant change. They were unable to sell CDs, the internet was emerging, and artists were clashing with producers and facing various challenges. For a long time, artists had to fund themselves; only recently have record labels started to come in,” the rapper stated.

He noted that platforms like TikTok have helped with music promotion, but they also come with high costs.

“Now TikTok has emerged, and artists started gaining popularity. Even before TikTok, there was Facebook. There was a time when posting a video on Facebook would reach all your fans, but that changed.

They restricted the audience to only 5% of your fans unless you paid for an ad. We started tipping club DJs, radio DJs, and TV stations.

The funny thing is that TikTok is the latest trend, and they charge more than others. So now, the process is challenging. You can go viral on TikTok, but without support from radio friends, it may not go far,” he said.

Flowking Stone is currently promoting his ‘Decision’ album, which features collaborations with artists like King Paluta, Mr Drew, and Morphty.

‘Juju’ is everywhere, don’t tarnish our image – Kumawood actress fires Portia Asare

Kumawood actress Elorm Aba has criticized her colleague, Portia Asare, for attributing the decline of the movie industry to spiritual sabotage by certain individuals.

Aba dismissed Portia’s claims, arguing that the practice of ‘juju’, a term for spiritual interference is common across all professions, not just in the film industry.

She expressed concern that Portia’s comments could harm Kumawood’s reputation and undermine the industry’s integrity.

Aba suggested that if Portia, as a Christian, finds it difficult to cope with these challenges, she should consider leaving the acting profession.

She pointed out that making such statements publicly only serves to tarnish the image of Kumawood.

“Juju is everywhere, in every profession. If she can’t handle it, she should stop working. We recently heard about Dr. Likee’s situation; does that mean he’ll quit? It depends on the individual. But talking about it openly damages our industry’s reputation,” Aba said in a video posted by Marigyata on Instagram on August 19, 2024.

Portia had previously claimed in an interview with Ahodwo TV that internal conflicts, hatred, and spiritual sabotage were key factors behind the decline of Kumawood.

She emphasized that a lack of unity among actors had contributed to the decrease in both the production and quality of films in the industry.

Despite being happy with her looks, Portia admitted she would consider body enhancement if the opportunity arose.

“I always say I want my body in a certain shape, If I had the opportunity to enhance my body, I would. Honestly, I love the way I look, but I wouldn’t mind enhancing it a little bit,” she said.

Portia also emphasized that while she respects individual choices regarding body modifications, she advocates for making informed and responsible decisions.

“If someone wants to enhance her body, there’s no problem. That’s the person’s choice. Let her live her life. It shouldn’t be an issue. But if you’re doing it, be responsible about it,” she said.

Portia also emphasized that she has no objections to others choosing to enhance their bodies, as long as they approach it responsibly.

I reject movie roles if the storylines don’t make sense – Martha Ankomah

Martha Ankomah has clarified that she holds no bias against movies produced in local languages, specifically addressing misconceptions that she dislikes the Kumawood film industry.

Speaking with Prince Benjamin (PB) on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital, Ankomah explained that her absence from Kumawood films is not due to any aversion but rather the result of not being offered roles that meet her standards.

She emphasized that the decision to accept a role hinges on the quality of the script and storyline. “If I read the story and I don’t like it, I wouldn’t want to be part of it. Otherwise, why not, I’ll jump on it,” she noted, stressing that she is open to participating in Kumawood projects if the content resonates with her.

Ankomah also mentioned that she had previously worked on a film in Kumasi, the hub of Kumawood, under the direction of Sammy Rasta. This, she argued, demonstrates her willingness to engage with the industry, provided the project aligns with her criteria.

She further highlighted the importance of story quality over language or location, referencing the success of Nigerian films in Yoruba and Igbo on Netflix as examples of how compelling narratives transcend linguistic boundaries.

Ankomah reiterated that her refusal of roles is not exclusive to Kumawood but applies to any film local or international that does not challenge her or inspire positive change.

She pointed out that she recently turned down a Nigerian film for this reason, maintaining that she always prioritizes meaningful content.

Addressing previous comments from a 2017 interview with Hitz FM, Ankomah acknowledged her appreciation for certain Kumawood films, like the 2002 classic Kumasi Yonko, but expressed her discomfort with the recurring themes of fetishism and witchcraft in some productions.

Despite this, she made it clear that she does not reject Kumawood projects outright, citing a specific instance where she declined involvement in LilWin’s A Country Called Ghana for reasons unrelated to any bias against Kumawood.

I dislike Kumawood movies with too much ‘juju’ scenes – Martha Ankomah

Martha Ankomah, the movie star, clarified her stance on movies shot in local languages, addressing misconceptions that she dislikes the rural and Akan/Twi-led Kumawood movie scene in Kumasi.

Speaking to Prince Benjamin (PB) on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital, she explained that she has never appeared in a Kumawood movie because she has not been contracted for one, and emphasized the importance of the storyline and script quality in her decision to accept roles.

Ankomah recounted an experience where she traveled to Kumasi to work on a movie with director Sammy Rasta, underscoring that her participation in any project depends on the strength of the storyline.

She highlighted how platforms like Netflix collaborate with Nigerian filmmakers to produce movies in Yoruba and Igbo with subtitles, yet prioritize the storyline and production quality.

She clarified that her earlier comments about rejecting nonsensical roles were not directed specifically at Kumawood.

Ankomah mentioned that she adheres to a personal rule of only accepting roles that challenge her mentally, inspire positive change, and contribute to the country’s development.

She recently turned down a Nigerian movie role because the story did not meet her standards.

Ankomah also noted her admiration for certain Kumawood films, particularly mentioning “Kumasi Yonko” (2002) directed by Samuel Nyamkye.

However, she expressed her discomfort with the frequent portrayal of fetish practices and witchcraft in some Kumawood movies.

Despite this, she refuted claims that she declined a role in LilWin’s ‘A Country Called Ghana’.

“I love Kumawood movies but what I dislike about their movies is the fetish stuff they inculcate into them. Apart from that, I love their storylines and they used to have really good movies like Kumasi Yonko, but, of late, most of their movies portray witchcraft and that does not motivate me to shoot with them,” she said.

Legendary Ghanaian actress Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, has expressed concern about the current state of Ghana’s movie industry.

She feels that contemporary films lack the meaningful lessons that once characterized the industry and now serve mostly as entertainment rather than sources of positive inspiration.

Maame Dokono shared her thoughts, stating, “When I observe the current movies, I find myself laughing internally because they don’t seem to offer much in terms of valuable life lessons. I mainly watch them just for fun rather than expecting any significant takeaways.”

She also criticized the casting choices in modern films, questioning why younger actors are often given roles intended for older characters, despite the presence of experienced elderly actors.

She reflected on the past, noting that during her early career, roles were more appropriately assigned based on age and experience, without relying on makeup and costumes to age actors artificially.

Recalling a specific instance, Maame Dokono mentioned turning down a role in a Kumawood film because she was to be paired with a significantly younger actor, LilWin, as her on-screen husband.

She expressed her dissatisfaction with this casting decision, saying, “I couldn’t accept the role because it seemed unrealistic for someone like LilWin to play my husband. It didn’t make sense to me, and as a result, the producers were unhappy with my refusal.”

Kumawood industry no longer active due to spiritual sabotage, internal conflicts – Portia Asare

Ghanaian Kumawood actress Portia Asare Boateng has highlighted significant challenges plaguing the Kumawood movie industry.

In an interview with Ahodwo TV, she attributed the industry’s decline to internal conflicts and spiritual sabotage.

Boateng emphasized that hatred and a lack of unity among colleagues have severely impacted both the production volume and quality of Kumawood films.

Addressing the issue, she remarked, “People are asking why Kumawood is dead; it is because of hatred! People are using spiritual means to sabotage their colleagues instead of loving and supporting each other.”

Boateng shared personal experiences of being targeted by her peers, revealing that trusted colleagues had attempted to undermine her through spiritual attacks.

Reflecting on these betrayals, she said, “People I used to eat with, people I trusted were among those who tried to destroy me using witchcraft. I was shocked. If you kill me, you won’t replace me. Your work is different from someone else’s. So why are you doing this?” Despite her revelations, Boateng chose not to identify specific individuals.

Papa Kumasi believes that Dr. Likee’s departure would have a detrimental impact on the Kumawood industry and hinder the progress of emerging actors and movie producers.

Dr. Likee recently announced in an interview that he plans to end his acting career two weeks after returning to Ghana from the United Kingdom.

He cited the stressful nature of his work and frequent false accusations against him as reasons for his decision.

Papa Kumasi acknowledged Dr. Likee’s significant contributions to the revival of Kumawood, highlighting his multifaceted role in acting, directing, and producing.

He emphasized the support Dr. Likee has provided to new talent and expressed concern over the potential negative consequences for the industry if Dr. Likee steps away.

Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as LilWin, has reportedly chosen to settle out of court with actress Martha Ankomah regarding the ₵5 million defamation lawsuit filed against him.

GHOne shared this update on their X handle, noting that the decision was communicated to the Accra High Court on July 31, 2024, the same day the case was set to be heard following a Case Management Conference on July 25.

The court, led by Justice Forson Agyapong Baah, had previously instructed that LilWin be informed of the hearing and court documents, as he was absent and unrepresented during the last session.

The lawsuit began when Martha Ankomah took legal action after LilWin made derogatory remarks about her in a viral video. Ankomah argues that these comments not only harmed her personal reputation but also negatively impacted the GTP textile brand.

She is seeking ₵5 million in damages, including compensatory and aggravated damages, as well as an apology, a retraction of the statements, and a court order to prevent further defamatory remarks.

The conflict originated from LilWin’s reaction to Ankomah’s statements on Accra FM, where she expressed interest in collaborating with Kumawood actors for their storylines.

LilWin’s response was filled with insults, leading to the defamation suit.

In her broadcast, Agradaa clarified that her wealth is the result of long-standing business ventures, not sudden gains.

“I didn’t just start making money recently,” she said. “My journey began with selling second-hand clothes at Kantamanto, a venture known for its high profitability. I then transitioned into film production, where I invested heavily and served as an executive producer for numerous movies.”

Why I quit NPP – Wayoosi reveals

Kumawood actor Joseph Osei, popularly known as Wayoosi, recently explained his reasons for leaving the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an interview with Zionfelix, Wayoosi attributed his departure to the actions of the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO).

Wayoosi recounted his active involvement in NAPO’s campaign for the Member of Parliament (MP) seat for Manhyia South constituency.

He reached out to delegates to secure votes for NAPO, contributing significantly to the minister’s successful election.

However, after NAPO won the seat, Wayoosi felt unacknowledged and disregarded, with their interactions becoming brief and infrequent.

Feeling unappreciated, Wayoosi lost interest in the NPP and has since shown support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

His comments come amidst speculations that NAPO might be chosen as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate for the upcoming 2024 elections.

“I got to know NPP through NAPO, and he needed my assistance for his MP campaign. He handed me a list of delegates who might oppose him, and I reached out to each one to persuade them to vote for us. Since he was elected MP, our conversations haven’t lasted more than 30 seconds. Nearly every time I called, he was occupied with a meeting. It dawned on me that he no longer needed my help after achieving his goal. This realization caused me to lose interest in the party,” Wayoosi stated in Twi.

Actress Naana Brown breaks down on TV over divorce rumors

Kumawood actress Naana Brown became visibly emotional during a television interview when her husband, Nana Acheampong, also known as Santiago, expressed uncertainty about the permanence of their marriage.

In a candid conversation on The Delay Show, which aired on May 25, 2024, Santiago shared his realistic view on their relationship, acknowledging that the future is unpredictable, and he couldn’t guarantee they would never face divorce.

“Like any normal couple, we have our disagreements at home. I cannot predict if we will ever part ways through divorce. I’m simply facing reality because the future is unknown,” Santiago explained in Twi.

Reflecting on their early days, he recalled, “When we first met, she questioned whether I loved her. I answered ‘no,’ which made her cry, but at that time, I was unsure. Now, I’m confident in our love for each other, yet the future remains uncertain.”

Naana, however, disagreed with Santiago’s perspective, maintaining a hopeful outlook and firmly believing that divorce would not be a part of their journey together. Overcome with emotion, she began to cry, expressing that Santiago’s comments deeply wounded her, suggesting a lack of trust.

“I deeply cherish my husband and I am committed to staying by his side until death parts us. The thought of divorce has never crossed my mind, and should it arise, I will remain steadfast. I’m not even sure why I’m crying, but I am overwhelmed with emotion. The idea that we might divorce, as implied by my husband, has caused me great pain. It makes me fear that he might disappoint me someday,” she told Delay in Twi.

Naana Brown, originally from Accra, moved to Kumasi in 2009. Santiago, a well-known disc jockey and broadcaster, was working as a presenter at Solid FM and was also involved in acting at the time. The two met on a movie set six months after Naana Brown’s relocation.

The couple tied the knot in 2014. Naana became pregnant during their courtship. They are now parents to three children and are anticipating the arrival of another.

Akrobeto, whose real name is Akwasi Boadi, pointed out some functional benefits of his nose, jokingly claiming it allows him to “breathe more air” than the average person, thus reducing his chances of getting sick or needing oxygen support.

Citing the late Michael Jackson as an example, he stressed the importance of accepting oneself.

Do you call yourself a star? Who knows you? What do you have? – Lilwin fumes at Martha Ankoma

Kumawood actor LilWin has strongly criticized some of his colleagues who have disparaged his efforts, including Martha Ankomah.

The actor launched a blistering attack against Ankomah, specifically addressing some ‘disparaging’ comments she made about ‘Kumawood’ movies in recent years.

Martha, in earlier interviews with HitzFm in 2017 and later with Accra FM in 2023, downplayed the storylines of recent Kumawood movies, comparing them unfavorably to the Agya Koo era.

“I love their story lines and they used to have really good movies like Kumasi Y)nko), but of late, most of their movies portray witchcraft and that does not motivate me to shoot with them,” she stated in her interview with HitzFM.

However, the discussion about Martha Ankomah’s remarks arose while LilWin was criticizing Dr. Likee’s team, following the departure of one of his actresses to Akabenezer’s camp.

The actress in question, Mimi, has been giving interviews lately, taking shots at LilWin. In response, LilWin has been attacking anyone who has undermined his efforts, including Martha Ankomah.

“Martha, those who are richer than you are rather humble and respect themselves a lot. Do you honestly call yourself a star? Who knows you? What do you have?

“I don’t even know why GTP bypassed the likes of McBrown, Mercy Asiedu and co, and made Martha Ankomah their brand ambassador. The likes of Van Vicker, Roselyn Ngissah and co, do not do these things. They even work with us. They shoot Kumawood movies. I’m still amazed that you made such statements, were you drunk?

  • Twi telenovelas have collapsed Ghanaian movie industry – Mr Beautiful

Twi telenovelas have collapsed Ghanaian movie industry – Mr Beautiful

A popular Kumawood actor and comedian, Mr. Beautiful, has raised concerns about the negative effects of foreign soap operas, twi telenovelas, on Ghanaian movie industry.

He believes that the widespread airing of foreign shows, especially those featuring local dialects, has contributed to the decline of the film sector.

During an interview with Amansan Krakye, Mr. Beautiful expressed his disappointment with the absence of proper regulations governing the operations of TV stations.

He emphasized the need for stricter guidelines to protect and promote the local movie industry, which has been adversely affected by the dominance of foreign content on television.

He stated, “A lot of licenses have been granted to TV station operators without any appropriate regulations, resulting in us making movies but not reaping any profits from them.”

Mr. Beautiful emphasized the practice of TV stations acquiring foreign soap operas, specifically those from Mexico, and incorporating local dialect translations to attract viewers.

He expressed his concern that this trend has had a negative impact on the Ghanaian film industry.

According to him, the popularity of these foreign soap operas has led to a decline in the local movie industry as viewership and support for Ghanaian films has diminished.

The presence of foreign content with localized translations has shifted audience attention away from locally produced movies, posing a significant challenge for the growth and sustainability of the Ghanaian film industry.

“You can be sitting in your room watching a foreign national speaking our local dialect, and these occurrences have contributed to the collapse of our local movie industry,” he added.

Mr. Beautiful further highlighted that in other countries, there are regulations in place to restrict the broadcast of foreign content and promote the growth of domestic production.

He emphasized the need for government intervention to prevent the Ghanaian movie industry from facing a complete standstill.

He suggested that the government should implement policies and regulations that prioritize local content, encourage the production of Ghanaian movies, and provide support and incentives to the industry.

Such measures, according to Mr. Beautiful, are essential to safeguard the local film sector and allow it to flourish once again.

Akrobeto blasts Oboy Siki for attacking Agya Koo over his mansion

Oboy Siki has been criticized for implying that Agya Koo was successful in building his most-discussed mansion by veteran Kumawood actor, Akrobeto.

Recall that somewhere last week, Oboy Siki alleged in the course of an exclusive interview with the media that Agya Koo received a huge sum of money from the ruling NPP after endorsing Nana Addo’s candidature in both 2016 and 2020 and that was what he used to complete his mansion.

According to Oboy Siki, no actor can afford to build such an opulent house solely with earnings from acting.

“Agya was sidelined in the movie industry, so things weren’t going well for him, so in 2016, he went to do an endorsement for NPP, and that is where he got enough money. So, I want to explain to Ghanaians that, for us, the movie actors, if we can build, our money cannot build a proper house,”.

“So, all those who have built in Accra with these big mansions are not funds from the movie industry, so if anybody says so, that is a very big lie. The NPP money helped Agya to fund his building …with my knowledge and the things I know, that money was used for the building,”

Reacting to these claims from Oboy Siki, Akrobeto has dismissed the assertion that no movie actor or actress can build an ultra-modern mansion.

In an interview, Akrobeto revealed that he himself owns two heavy mansions and was able to build them from the revenue he generates from his acting career.

Disappointed Akrobeto angrily remarked that if Oboy Siki wasn’t able to acquire any expensive and worthy property in his name during his peak, other actors and actresses won’t be unfortunate like him.

I am among the most resilient people in Ghana’s movie industry – Gloria Sarfo

One of Ghana’s most gifted actors, Gloria Sarfo, has shared how she is one of the greatest survivors in the film industry and what she had to go through to become who she is today.

She explained that when she began her career as an actress, there were some challenges she faced especially when it comes getting roles to play and her friends looking down on her, adding that she received all those treatments due to reasons she found as absurd.

“I am one of the greatest survivors in this industry. Anytime I am talking about that I get emotional. I kept being denied roles, sidelined and blacklisted for some strange reasons. Even with my colleagues when I am being casted alongside, they are like, Gloria can’t play that role”, she shared her experience.

The actress made this revelation during an interview with Berla Mundi on TV3’s New Day morning show.

In the interview, she also disclosed that it got to a time when she was tagged as a local dialect actress just because she featured in the ‘Efiewura’ television series thus they saw her as an actress who wouldn’t attract the audience or wouldn’t generate income in the movie she will be featured in.

She concluded by saying that it was through the local dialect acting that in 2020, she walked home with the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choices Award (AMVCA) as the Best Supporting Actress in the movie ‘The Perfect Picture- Ten Years Later”.

She said: “Then Efiewura happened that spoilt the whole thing. Then I was tagged as a local actress like you can’t meet the particular target or a particular market target and all that just because I am acting my local dialect. But guess what, it is my local dialect that won me that award”.

Salinko loved his wife too much – Oboy Siki explains reason for colleague’s divorce

Kumawood actor Oboy Siki has shared his opinion on why his colleague Salinko’s marriage ended in divorce.

He said Salinko was too lenient and generous with his wife, Nancy Owusu, and exposed her to things that made her lose respect for him.

Salinko, whose real name is Abraham Davis, confirmed his divorce in an interview with Poleeno Multimedia. He said his wife left him without any clear reason, saying she was fed up.

He said he tried to reconcile with her through her father, but he also supported her decision. He denied any allegations of abuse or cheating in their marriage.

“Madam just said that she is fed up, we went to the father and the father also said he can see the daughter is fed up; no one maltreated her or did anything to her,” he earlier mentioned.

Salinko said the divorce affected him mentally and emotionally, and he almost went mad. He said he had to listen to motivational messages and pray to overcome the challenge.

“I nearly went mad but I had to manage because initially when I go to the market to sell, I can sit there for a while until someone prompts me before I become conscious of myself. Yes, a lady can tell you that she is fed up without any reason,” he added.

However, Oboy Siki, addressing the issue in an interview on GHPage, said Salinko was partly responsible for his divorce.

According to him, his fellow Kumawood actor, Salinko took his wife to every event he attended, and this made her meet people who were richer and more influential.

“When you take her to places like that, she gets to meet people who are bigger than you. People who have attained a higher status than you so she starts to disrespect you. The big men even send you on errands, right in her presence. You expose her to a lot of things,” he stated.

He said Salinko also gave his wife too much freedom and privileges, which made her take him for granted.

Oboy Siki advised Salinko to learn from his mistake and be more careful with his future relationships.

“Salinko will learn some sense from this. When he got married, he takes his wife to almost every event he is invited to. It’s not the right thing to do, marriage isn’t like that. Whenever we go for events, you always grab two seats for yourself, everything that is being served including food, drinks and so on, you take double. Why? When you do that, you are spoiling the woman too much. She sees all these things,” he quoted to have said.

Salinko and Nancy got married on September 7, 2017, in a private ceremony. They were together for six years before their divorce.

He is not my father – Agya Koo denies man claiming to be his father

Kumawood actor Kofi Adu who is popularly known as Agya Koo, says he is in no way related to a man who has been claiming to be the biological father of the actor.

According to him, he has no knowledge of the said man and has never met him before.

The news of the supposed father-son relationship came to light after an interview with the man was published online. In the interview, the man claimed to be Agya Koo’s father and revealed that he had been searching for him for a long time.

However, in an exclusive interview with Kwabena Mensah Abrompah on Radio Univers on April 21, 2023, Agya Koo dismissed the claims as false and unfounded, the actor stated that the man and the person who interviewed him had orchestrated the entire situation for their own personal gain.

“Massa, you people should forget about him, he is just lying… I will come and address the public properly, I don’t know him from anywhere, it is just an orchestration by some people…

“I won’t lie brother, I’m telling you the truth…. because I don’t lie, weren’t you here that four years ago someone also said that I’m the son and she is my mother, how did it end? I’m telling you the truth,” he said.

The actor added that Ghanaians should disregard the claims made by the man, stating that they were baseless and had no merit.

In an earlier interview with Ghana News TV, the said man, identified as Kwesi Bediako, said he is seeking reconciliation with his son (Agya Koo), whom he had not seen since birth.

  • Miracle Films CEO to sue Actor Kwame Burger

Miracle Films CEO to sue Actor Kwame Burger

Evangelist Samuel Nyamekye, the Chief Executive Officer of Miracle Films, has threatened to sue Kwame Burger .

According to him, Kwame Burger’s explicit remarks about Kumawood actresses have him gearing up for a courtroom slugfest.

Actor, Kwame Burger, who has served as the production manager for a number of film producers, has firmly declared that roughly 70% of Kumawood actresses are now dependent on the hookup industry to survive.

To support his claims, Kwame Burger emphasized that only Agya Koo and LilWin received salaries of 5000 Ghana Cedis during their peak years as actors. As a result, all the Kumawood actresses’ lavish lifestyles are a result of their new endeavor, the hook-up industry.

The term “hook-up business” refers to prostitution in which wealthy, married men and attractive, intelligent women mingle primarily for financial advantage.

Other members of the industry, including Miracle Films, are furious with him for what he said, and is prepared to summon the actor in question to court.

Evangelist Samuel Nyamekye, who also works as a director and producer, admitted in an interview with Hello Entertainment Review that he was incensed when he viewed the actor’s video.

He claims that he cannot stand by while some riffraff destroys an industry that he has worked hard to create.

“Actually, after speaking with my lawyer, we plan to issue him with a summons on Tuesday, requiring him to appear and provide confirmations”, he told the host.
