In an exclusive interview with Amansan Krakye, the ‘Canopy’ hitmaker explained how his life experiences influence his creative process. “The life I’m living; past, present, and future all shapes the kind of songs I create. The people I come into contact with influence my music,” Kuami Eugene shared.
Known for hits like Angela, Abena, Monica, and Belinda, the ‘Rockstar’ disclosed that many of these names are tied to personal connections. “Often, I’m telling the story of a female I’ve crossed paths with, whether as a friend or in a relationship. Yes, some of the names you hear in my songs, like Abena, are based on real people I’ve met,” he revealed.
Highlighting one such connection, Kuami Eugene admitted that his experiences with a lady named Abena served as inspiration for the song bearing her name. “I’ve had a few experiences with a lady named Abena, so when you hear that name in my songs, it’s a reflection of those encounters,” he added.
