Political Future, fighting the system: 4 things Ken Agyapong said at thanksgiving service

It seems like Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament in Ghana, recently spoke about his experience in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary. Here are some key points from his address:

    1. Contest Against the System: Kennedy Agyapong described the presidential primary as a contest between himself and the entire system. He mentioned that he had been consistently underestimated by his opponents, and they were surprised by the number of votes he received.
    2. Influence in the Party: Despite not winning the primary, Agyapong emphasized that his campaign had secured 37% of the votes, giving his supporters significant influence within the party. He claimed that more than one-third of the party is under their control, suggesting that decisions cannot be made without consulting them.
    3. Political Future: Agyapong hinted at his political future, asking his followers to continue praying for him. He expressed confidence that there is still time ahead and asked for prayers for long life and good health. He urged his supporters to believe that all is not lost and that eventually, what God has ordained will come to pass.
    4. Post-Election Dynamics: After the primary on November 4, the winner, Bawumia, polled 61.47% of the votes, while Agyapong received 37.41%, surprising many. Despite the competition, Agyapong has received commendations from party members who had criticized him earlier. Bawumia’s visit to Agyapong’s residence is seen as an early effort to garner his support for the 2024 campaign.

Kennedy Agyapong’s speech suggests a mix of gratitude, confidence in his influence within the party, and hints at a continued political presence despite not winning the primary.

  • Bawumia, Kennedy ‘make up’ after NPP primaries; stand united for 2024 elections

Bawumia, Kennedy ‘make up’ after NPP primaries; stand united for 2024 elections

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia held a meeting with his primary rival Kennedy Agyapong at the latter’s residence in Accra, following the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race on November 4, 2023,

This visit, as reported in the November 10, 2023 edition of the pro-government Daily Guide newspaper, occurred on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

Describing it as a “calculated political move,” the newspaper said the meeting held over dinner “was aimed at renewing the bonds of friendship between the two influential figures as well as foster collaboration for the betterment of the nation as next year’s election beckons.”

Neither the camp of the Vice President nor that of the Assin Central MP has released any images or details of the mentioned meeting. The Assin Central MP, who emerged as a significant power broker in the NPP due to his surprising performance in the NPP presidential flagbearer race, was involved in this undisclosed meeting.

According to the report, “Dr. Bawumia is expected to visit other aspirants and opinion leaders in the NPP as he tries to mend fences and build bridges ahead of the 2024 elections.

Dr Bawumia reportedly praised Ken for his substantial contributions to the party across all levels, emphasizing the need for a united effort, prioritizing national interests over personal ones.

“They agreed to set aside any differences and work hand in hand to ensure the prosperity and development of Ghana,” the report added.

The most recent public sighting of the two was on November 4 during the official announcement of Bawumia as the race winner, an event where Ken was reportedly “compelled” to attend.

During the November 4 vote, Dr. Bawumia secured 61.47% of the total votes from nearly 200,000 NPP delegates, emerging as the victor, while Ken Agyapong secured about 37.41%.

At an event declaring the vice president the winner on Saturday night, Ken Agyapong pledged support for Dr. Bawumia’s presidential campaign.

“This is the only thing I’ve been preaching, and I must admit this election is fair and my grassroots have spoken; therefore, I accept the results in good faith,” Mr Agyapong said moments after the results was announced.

He vowed his allegiance to the flagbearer-elect to aid in defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and to secure a victory beyond the current eight-year tenure.

“So, party members we should put everything behind us and let’s unite this party…, I believe we can break the eight and that’s what I’ve been preaching,” he added.

Kennedy Agyapong is critical to our victory in 2024 – NPP MP

Nhyiaeso Member of Parliament, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has emphasised the continued significance of Kennedy Agyapong within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite his loss in the presidential primaries on November 4.

Dr. Amoah praised Agyapong’s maturity and composure at the NPP rally following the primaries, underscoring that Agyapong remains an integral part of the party’s collective efforts to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 elections and break the eight-year cycle.

“Ken is an integral part of our path to victory in 2024,” he said.

He added that he believes the unity is genuine because both Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong are valued members of the party.

“NPP has emerged victorious, and I’m concerned about maintaining unity,” he added.

Kennedy Agyapong was insufficiently guided – Ayikoi Otoo

In a recent development, former Attorney-General, Joseph Nii Ayikoi Otoo, has raised concerns regarding Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s readiness to assume a leadership role within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Agyapong, who serves as the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, recently encountered a setback in the NPP presidential primary. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the party’s chosen flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

During an appearance on TV3 on November 4, 2023, while offering insights into the NPP presidential primary, Ayikoi Otoo questioned Agyapong’s political journey and the guidance he may have received to prepare him for a leadership position.

Despite Agyapong’s considerable resources, Ayikoi Otoo suggested that he might not have adequately readied himself for the leadership role he aspired to within the NPP.

“You can’t teach new tricks to a mature dog. You find that the more it tries to get away from its old ways, the more it finds itself being submerged into it because that’s how it is. So, you need to be groomed.

“…I don’t think that anybody advised him (Kennedy Agyapong) on the way he was going,” onuaonline.com quoted him to have said.”

He added “As for the resources to do the work, he has them, and he was able to get to wherever he is now largely based upon those resources.”

In the NPP presidential primary, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the race for the party’s flagbearer position. This election saw Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Agriculture Minister, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former MP for Mampong, facing defeat.

Dr. Bawumia secured his victory with 61.43% of the total votes, making him the clear winner. Kennedy Agyapong, who was the closest rival, received 37.41% of the vote share.

In contrast, the other two contestants, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh, garnered 0.75% and 0.41% of the votes, respectively.

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, who doubles as one of the candidates in the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race, has declared his support for the party’s leader and flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, following his defeat in the presidential primaries.

He called on his supporters to come together and bolster the party’s position as they gear up to compete against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2024 elections. Kennedy Agyapong reiterated his dedication to ensuring that the NPP maintains its hold on power in the next election.

“I believe the party has been fair and transparent, and that is the only thing I have always been preaching, and I must admit, this election is fair, and my grassroots have spoken; therefore, I accept the results in good faith.

“I pledge my support, and we are going to work tirelessly to break the eight. I want to congratulate the vice president.”

He added, “So, party members, we are here; we should put everything behind us and let us unite this party. With unity, I believe we can break the eight, and that is all I have been preaching for.

“I want to assure you that in 2024, the showdown will be translated into NDC. We have to come together and give the NDC a showdown.”

    I don’t have a problem if I don’t win – Kennedy Agyapong

A prominent candidate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer election, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has expressed his equanimity regarding today’s electoral outcome.

“I am going into the election. I know I can win, I know I can lose, so I don’t have a problem at all,” Agyapong stated, highlighting his readiness to accept the results, regardless of whether he wins or loses.

Agyapong’s commitment to the democratic process and his love for the party are evident as he affirms his willingness to congratulate the winner, should he not be successful. His main concern, he stresses, is the fairness of the election.

“The only time I have a problem is unfairness,” he reiterated, adding that a fair process is his utmost priority.

The NPP’s election has drawn significant attention, with Agyapong and other candidates in a tight race that could have far-reaching implications for the party and Ghana’s political landscape.

Agyapong remains confident and at peace with any outcome, grounded in the belief that electoral competition is inherently a 50-50 chance.

“I have psyched myself, as for elections, it is 50 50 you can win you can lose,” he concluded, prepared for any result as the nation awaits the final count.

NPP has addressed all the issues I had earlier – Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong has publicly acknowledged the efforts of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in addressing his previous concerns regarding the election process.

He extended his commendations to the elections committee, particularly praising Professor Mike Oquaye, the chairman, for their willingness to accommodate the changes he had advocated for.

“The issues I had earlier were addressed. I will congratulate the elections committee, the chairman, Professor Mike Oquaye. So far, what we wanted they gladly accepted it,” Agyapong stated, expressing satisfaction with the party’s response to his concerns.

The MP for Assin Central also expressed hope that the execution of the elections would be conducted fairly. “And we hope those who are implementing it will be fair,” he added, indicating that while the committee has set the stage right, the onus is now on the implementers to carry out the process accurately and justly.

Agyapong is currently awaiting the election results with high hopes for a peaceful outcome. “All I don’t want is violence,” he declared, underscoring his desire for a tranquil and orderly voting environment. His main worry, he shared, is individuals who may disrupt the process by taking the law into their own hands.

  • Give us TnT, else we won’t vote – Suame delegates to Kennedy’s camp

Give us TnT, else we won’t vote – Suame delegates to Kennedy’s camp

More than 200 delegates from the Suame Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are reportedly considering boycotting the presidential primaries if they do not receive financial support from Kennedy Agyapong’s camp.

While over 800 delegates have already cast their votes, around 200 have expressed their intention to abstain from the event due to what they refer to as a lack of “transport money.”

In an interview with TV3, two of the delegates urged Kennedy Agyapong to show his support in the constituency, or they would withhold their votes.

They mentioned that they have already received financial support from the camp of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia but have yet to receive any assistance from Kennedy Agyapong.

One of the delegates suggested that Kennedy Agyapong might have allocated funds for their “transport,” but they have not yet received them. Consequently, they called on Kennedy Agyapong’s representatives to release the funds, or they would refrain from voting.

“We’ve come from far so we need help. We don’t have a problem with Bawumia but where is Ken? We are waiting for Ken; otherwise, we will not vote”, he said.

The issue of vote-buying has become prevalent during the ongoing NPP presidential primaries on November 4, 2023.

In the La Dade Kotokopon constituency, TV3 reports that some delegates allege they have received GHC450 from the camp of the vice president.

A viral video on social media features a candidate named Sir Collins, who explained that he chose to vote for Kennedy Agyapong because he found the money offered by Agyapong’s camp more appealing than that of the vice president.

During an interview with GHOne TV, Collins expressed his profound dissatisfaction, characterizing Dr. Bawumia’s offer of a mere GH¢400 per delegate as an insult.

Collins emphasized the disparities in resources and support, questioning why another contender, Kennedy Agyapong, who reportedly has less support from government appointees and the party’s rank and file, offered GH¢300.

“I voted for Ken,” he said in the Twi language as he proceeded to give his reason.

“Bawumia has the support of ministers, MCEs and government officials yet they gave us GH¢400 while Ken gave us GH¢300. That’s an insult. How can you have the support of everyone and give us GH¢400 when an individual Ken is giving us GH¢300?”

On GTV, another delegate, Samed Nuhu, who serves as a polling station executive, emphasized that delegates in the Krowor constituency should not let the money they’ve received from the candidates sway their decisions.

He confirmed receiving money from both the Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong camps but pledged to vote for the person he believes will keep the party in power.

He admitted to voting for Bawumia and revealed that he received an envelope containing money, although he expressed disappointment that the amount wasn’t substantial.

“I have finished voting and gone for my envelope but the money isn’t much. The process has been cool and without hitches. The people are also conducting themselves well so its going on smoothly. I also took an envelope from Ken. I didn’t fight for it but they give it to me. I have not opened the envelopes yet”, he said.

In the Ellembelle constituency, some delegates are cling that the monies offered them are beyond expectations.

Some angry polling station executives in the Ellembelle constituency of the Western region have accused the election committee of cheating.

“We were told that they would give us GHC100 each to take cars to Nkroful here to vote, but they have given us just GHC50”, they said.

“They have cheated us because these monies are from the national headquarters, and it is not fair at all. We are telling the national executives that they should call our constituency executives to order and add the GHC50 before we leave here”, they added.

‘We will find out soon enough’, even you know it wouldn’t be easy – Ursula to Kennedy Agyapong

Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West Constituency, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has asserted that her constituency will deliver a clear message to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong about his standing within the constituency following the conclusion of the party’s presidential election.

Ursula has stated that the key influencers in the constituency have pledged their support to flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and are fully committed to the “DMB project.”

She further expressed confidence that Bawumia will secure an overwhelming victory in the constituency, earning nothing less than 80% of the total votes.

“I know what the kingmakers in this constituency have told me. We have had an extensive conversation with them and they’ve told us that they are fully aligned and behind the DMB project. So we are just waiting to see by what margin he wins in this constituency,” she told Joy News.

“We will find out soon enough. Nothing less than 80%,” she added.

The Minister of Communications and Digitalization also noted that Kenedy Agyapong is aware that outwitting Bawumia looks impossible.

“At the end of the day, everybody will see their smoothness level in this constituency. Even he knows that it will be a really, really uphill task for him to change what has already been ordained.

“We’ve been working here for a long time. We’ve lived with our constituents for a long time. We’ve engaged with them; we’ve spoken to them and they’ve told us what their concerns are and what their expectations are.”

Speaking to the media after casting his ballot in the NPP primaries, Agyapong said that he had the qualities that set him apart from other candidates.

“Look everywhere, you know what Ghanaians are expecting is a bold, honest leader. If it is Kennedy Agyapong, I will beat Mahama hands down. No doubt about it,” Agyapong stated, articulating the desires of a populace that has witnessed an array of leaders from diverse professional backgrounds. Despite having experienced governance by lawyers, soldiers, and economists, the people’s expectations remain unmet amid the current state of affairs.

Kennedy Agyapong, with a firm background in business, urges the electorate to pivot from the norm and consider what an entrepreneur could offer in the realm of national leadership. “Therefore, Kennedy Agyapong, the businessman, let’s give him a chance and see what a businessman can also do,” he suggested, aiming to bring his business acumen to the forefront of political governance.

Highlighting his strengths, Agyapong focused on his boldness, truthfulness, and entrepreneurial expertise. He expressed confidence that these qualities would make him a formidable candidate against any National Democratic Congress (NDC) opponent.

“I stand tall, you know when you bring any NDC, any contestant, those three things will let me win the election easily,” he concluded, indicating his perceived advantages in the political arena.

Agyapong’s message resonates with a growing portion of the electorate yearning for transparency and a proactive approach to leadership-a call that may shape the upcoming political landscape in Ghana.

Ken Agyapong has made himself a threat to the NPP – Kofi Bentil

Lawyer Kofi Bentil has praised Kennedy Agyapong for his effective campaign as a flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). However, Bentil has raised concerns that Agyapong’s approach may also pose a threat to the party.

In a statement issued on Facebook on November 3, 2023, Bentil acknowledged Agyapong’s commendable campaign efforts but cautioned that his strategies could potentially disrupt the party’s unity.

“Ken Agyepong has run a very effective campaign. For that, he deserves kudos. Whether he proved that he was the better choice is where he fell short in my view,” Bentil asserted.

“He has made himself a threat to the NPP, but surely he can pivot and be an asset to the NPP. That’s what he should do,” Bentil advised, sharing a post that showcased Agyapong with Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and other aspirants.

The two politicians had their last encounter at the NPP headquarters in Accra on November 2. Along with two other contenders, they signed an agreement of comradeship to maintain decorum during and after the party’s primary elections.

Bentil expressed his hope for a peaceful election, emphasising the importance of the outcome reflecting the people’s will: “We all pray for a peaceful election tomorrow so it will be what the choice of the people are. When it’s said and done May Ghana win,” he concluded.

Kennedy Agyapong is in the race for the flagbearer position alongside three other candidates, including Dr Bawumia, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis-Addai-Nimoh.

The NPP is set to hold its primary on November 4, 2023, to elect a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and to steer the party’s direction ahead of the general elections in 2024.

  • Tell us who made $800m offer to you – Opare-Ansah dares Kennedy Agyapong

Tell us who made $800m offer to you – Opare-Ansah dares Kennedy Agyapong

A member of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Frederick Opare-Ansah, has challenged Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, to name and shame the said individual from the Vice President’s camp who offered him $800 million should he withdraw from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race.

In an interview on Time FM on Sunday, October 29, 2023, Ken Agyapong alleged that he was offered $800 million to withdraw from the party’s race for Dr. Bawumia.

“Does he know the number of people who have approached me but for the love of Ghana and the delegates I have said I will never do it? The money they offered is $800 million if he doesn’t know. He should ask Mr. Oppong Bio if that is what they are saying but I said no, I will not step down, Ghana first. In 2016, you people were not able to buy pickups. How come today you are able to offer me $800 million? So I said I won’t step down…” he stated.

He made the claim after Frederick Opare-Ansah alleged that Mr Kennedy Agyapong demanded the supply of contracts to the tune of $500 million annually to withdraw from the New Pariotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race.

“We had a discussion and I told him we should have a conversation on radio so I disclose the Ghanaian people why he is contesting this very election. He went to Dr (Bawumia) to give him about $500m worth of contracts if he becomes president annually. And doc refused and said he will contest him. It happened. Oppong Bio informed me. I would have also said these comments but I won’t say that,” he said.

Currently, the Bawumia camp has refuted the claims that the Vice President has made any offer to the Assin Central MP.

In an interview on Citi TV’s Face to Face show, Frederick Opare-Ansah challenged Mr Agyapong to come forward with the identity of the individual behind the offer.

He also provided more details to buttress his $500 million worth of contract claims against Mr Agyapong.

He noted that his source of information, Oppong Bio, a member of Ken Agyapong’s campaign who made known to him the proposal made by his candidate, engaged him in September 2022 at his residence on the Agbogba road.

“It was in September 2022, in his house on the Agbobga road. I want to protect the identity of one person because he is a businessman. He would not want his name out there. We were four there. The other guy is one Sam, who is also part of the campaign of Kennedy. He (Oppong Bio) said this and laughed that if they were to make that offer to Kennedy today, he would find some good reason to tell the campaign team and then stop,” he said.

“Let Kennedy tell us who in the DMB campaign made the officer. When Kennedy is lying, he uses they but when he has real facts, he mentions names.

  • Kennedy Agyapong promises to step down as chairman of Ghana Gas if he loses NPP primaries

Kennedy Agyapong promises to step down as chairman of Ghana Gas if he loses NPP primaries

A prospective candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, Kennedy Agyapong, has announced his intention to step down from his position as the chairman of Ghana Gas’s board if he does not secure the NPP leadership during the primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.

During an interview on Oyerepa TV on November 1, 2023, Agyapong expressed his desire to address misconceptions surrounding his role and compensation as the chairman of the Ghana Gas board. He emphasized that there have been widespread allegations of financial benefits associated with his position, which he vehemently denied.

Agyapong clarified that he receives a payment of GH¢2,600 for each board meeting he attends, noting that these meetings take place at irregular intervals, with sometimes several months elapsing between them.

“Sometimes three months we haven’t even gone for a meeting. Funny enough, I didn’t even know how much I take, so when those conversations started, I went to ask the secretary, and I was told I take GH¢2,600,” he said.

Agyapong further disclosed that he had discussed his resignation with a few board members, one of whom being Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, the Minister of Energy.

He claims, though, that some members have been hesitant to allow him to resign from his role because of his beneficial contributions to the group.

“I have told the board members, several times that I just want to resign. Even last week I was discussing it with NAPO, the minister, that I wanted to resign and go, but the board was even begging me not to leave. NAPO was advising me that I shouldn’t leave.

“Go and sample opinions from the workers from Ghana Gas, changes that I have brought, investments that they have made. I have that leadership quality you can’t take it from me,” he added.

He continued “If lose, I will stop, whoever will talk I won’t listen, I will leave, they have created the impression that there is money they to be looted.”

Kennedy is one of three candidates vying for the flagbearership position: Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

November 4, 2023 is the date set by the NPP to elect President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s replacement as the party’s leader.

  • You will become a divorcee if I decide to mind you – Ken Agyapong to Samira Bawumia

You will become a divorcee if I decide to mind you – Ken Agyapong to Samira Bawumia

Flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has stated that he has made a conscious decision to refrain from responding to the recent comments made by the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia.

Speaking to the media, he stated that countering her remarks could potentially have a detrimental effect on her marriage.

“I have vowed not to comment. You heard what Mrs. Bawumia said about me but I didn’t reply her because if I reply her, her marriage will collapse,” he stated.

Mr Agyapong’s comment comes in the wake of a recent campaign by Samira Bawumia in Amansie constituency. The Second Lady encouraged delegates not to vote for a candidate who had threatened that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would face defeat in the event of his loss in the flagbearer contest.

However, Mr Agyapong believes that Samira Bawumia was indirectly referring to him when she advised against candidates who sought the downfall of the NPP.

She emphasized the importance of party unity and criticized those who were campaigning with anger and advocating for the NPP to go into opposition if their favored candidate did not win.

“It is imperative that our words reflect the gravity of this election for our party, and, for this reason, we must avoid making mistakes and present a unified front. Therefore, we should all unite behind a candidate with the potential to lead us to victory. However, those who engage in campaigning with bitterness and anger, suggesting that we should accept going into opposition if our preferred candidate is not successful, is that a stance we are willing to embrace,” she added.

In response to these comments, Ken Agyapong noted that those who argued that the Second Lady did not mention any names in her speech would be the first to accuse him of insulting women if he were to respond without explicitly naming individuals.

  • ‘Kill Ewes’, attack churches, JB & Ahmed Suale deaths; 7 past ‘sins’ haunting Ken Agyapong

‘Kill Ewes’, attack churches, JB & Ahmed Suale deaths; 7 past ‘sins’ haunting Ken Agyapong

As the political arena heats up in Ghana, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, who has a history of contentious statements and actions, has stepped into the spotlight as he embarks on his flagbearership campaign, in preparation for the upcoming Presidential primaries.

Despite the enthusiasm and confidence in becoming the next flagbearer and subsequently assuming the role of the President of the nation, the weight of his past actions, often labeled as ‘sins,’ threatens to overshadow his aspirations.

The MP has gained notoriety for his provocative statements. He has consistently been at the center of various controversies, stirring up debates and attracting both support and criticism for his outspoken views. In this piece, The Independent Ghana highlights ‘7 past ‘sins’ of Kennedy Agyapong’ which is likely to haunt his political career.

Firstly, ‘Kill Ewes statement’: Mr Agyapong is reported to have fueled tribalism by declaring war on all Ewes living in the Ashanti region by inciting NPP activists in the region to attack Ewes with machetes and cutlasses. Despite his attempts at providing clarifications, this incident appears to be one that Ghanaians may find difficult to forgive him for.

Ahmed Suale’s death: Ahmed Hussein Suale was an investigative journalist who died on Wednesday, 16 January 2019. He was killed by unidentified men on motorbikes who shot him three times, twice in the chest and once in his neck in his vehicle. Prior to his demise, Mr Agyapong had publicly attacked Mr Suale on his media platforms.

The legislator had shown a photo of the undercover journalist on TV, disclosed his place of residence and made comments that suggested that Ahmed was a ‘bad boy’ and anyone who sees him could be aggressive towards him. When Ahmed was eventually murdered by unknown gunmen months later, Mr Agyapong became one of the first to be accused of complicity in the incident.

Leaking Afia Schwarzenegger: The MP in 2016 threatened to leak the nude photos of Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger. Speaking on Oman FM’s Boiling Point, he said that he was going to release Afia Schwarzenegger’s naked pictures the following week.

Death of Former MP J. B Dankwah: Hon. JB Danquah was murdered in his home on 9th February 2016 at Shiashie in Accra. He was the MP for Abuakwa North on the ticket of NPP. Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy Don Don, the main suspect in the murder of the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu later confessed to the crime.

Daniel in his confession mentioned the names of those who hired him to end the life of the late JB Danquah. Hon Kennedy Agyapong was mentioned as having a hand in the contract killing of the former MP by the suspect Sexy Don Don. The MP has since been fighting for his reputation by denying the claims.

Attacks on Anas: Ken Agyapong has never seen eye-to-eye with Anas Aremeyaw Anas arguing repeatedly that the modus operandi of the journalist was unethical and dangerous. A number of Anas’ projects notably ‘In The Eyes of God’ – about judicial corruption, ‘Number 12’ – about corruption in Ghana football and particularly Galamsey Fraud expose, only upped the ante relative to attacks from the lawmaker.

It was with the galamsey piece that Agyapong dragged Anas’ boss Kweku Baako Jnr, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading GUIDE into the picture, relative to attacks and accusations of corruption and complicity in galamsey. Baako eventually won a defamation suit against Agyapong when an Accra High Court awarded him GHC130,000 in damages, way below the GHC25 million he had sought.

However, in a recent development, Anas also dragged Mr Agyapong to court in a defamation suit, which the investigative journalist lost.

NPP is useless comment: The MP has been actively involved in critiquing his own party, occasionally resorting to hurling insults at some party members. Mr Agyapong who has put a tag on himself as chief financier of the NPP, therefore, does whatever pleases him, has previously (in 2015) described the party as “useless” and members as “stupid, fools and idiots.” This statement incurred the wrath of many in the party and appears to be one of the ‘unforgivable sins’ committed by the now aspiring Presidential candidate.

Attack on Churches: Like most Ghanaians, he believes in the existence of a supreme being who created heaven and earth, however, what he abhors is the manner in which some people practice their faith. He is convinced that while some genuine pastors exist, there are charlatans who parade as men of God and have majored in fleecing unsuspecting people of their monies. He has thus taken it upon himself to campaign against such persons.

Mr Agyapong in recent past years waged a strong campaign against some popular pastors in the country of which Head Pastor of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, fell victim. Kennedy Agyapong who said he was on a mission to expose fake pastors who have taken advantage of innocent Ghanaians and are living lavishly off their sweat, ensured the arrest of Mr Obinim.

Mr Obinim was charged with the offences of publication of false news and forgery of documents contrary to sections 208 and 159 of the Criminal and other offences Act, (1960) (ACT 29) respectively.  The MP who says he is still not happy with developments in the religious space, has vowed to renew his attack on the so-called men of God.

Despite these ‘sins’ Mr Agyapong remains resolute in his quest to become the next leader of the party. Will he be forgiven by the party or will he face potential repercussions for his actions? Well, time will tell.

How Ken Agyapong’s son, wife are enjoying gov’t deals – Opare Ansah reveals

Former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare-Ansah has revealed that NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has benefited more from the NPP party than any other member.

In an interview with Peace FM, he added that Ken serves as the Chairman of Ghana Gas, and his wife holds the position of Chairperson at Ghana’s Shippers Authority.

Furthermore, Ken’s son is involved in the oil industry and is engaged in oil-lifting activities with The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).

He further mentioned that rather than being content within the party, Ken is going around making accusations because things didn’t go in his favor.

In a recent interview on Wontumi FM, Opare-Ansah criticized Kennedy Agyapong, accusing him of harboring bitterness. He claimed that Agyapong’s decision to run for the NPP flagbearer position was motivated by bitterness, stemming from Dr. Bawumia’s refusal to grant him $500 million worth of annual contracts in exchange for his support.

The NPP is set to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 presidential election on November 4, 2023. The candidates in the race include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

  • Ken Agyapong is the biggest beneficiary of Akufo-Addo’s gov’t; his wife is Shippers Authority board chair – Kevin Taylor

Ken Agyapong is the biggest beneficiary of Akufo-Addo’s gov’t; his wife is Shippers Authority board chair – Kevin Taylor

Media personality, Kevin Taylor, has raised questions about the alleged numerous benefits Kennedy Agyapong has acquired by his association with the current Akufo-Addo administration.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is a Member of Parliament for Assin Central, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a flagbearer aspirant for the NPP.

Taylor who was responding to a series of statements made by Agyapong against the NPP and the President Akufo-Addo administration, said, contrary to the narrative the former is pushing in projecting the current government as corrupt, Mr Agyapong himself is rather, ” the one who has gotten more money under this administration than anyone else.”

“Who gave Kennedy Agyapong’s wife the approval to be the board chair of the Ghana Shippers Authority? Is it not Akufo-Addo? Is it not the NPP government?” Taylor asked. He also questioned Agyapong’s appointment to the Ghana Gas board, noting that it was approved by Vice President Bawumia and backed by President Akufo-Addo.

“Who put Kennedy Agyapong on the Ghana Gas board? It is Akufo-Addo. Today he says Akufo-Addo is a fool. It is Bawumia’s approval that enabled Kennedy Agyapong to be on the Ghana Gas board. Or am I lying? It is the president. It is the NPP members; they supported it,” he added.

Taylor contended that Agyapong has received more financial benefits under the Akufo-Addo administration than anyone else, and has even gathered incriminating information on individuals to use against them.

Kennedy Agyapong, on October 2, 2023, reportedly made accusations against his own party, alleging extensive corruption. He claimed the NPP was looting public funds on an alarming scale and stashing the stolen funds abroad. However, Agyapong later dismissed these reports, stating that the video capturing his comments had been taken out of context.

According to Agyapong, the video was edited to “purposefully create disaffection towards me, Ken Ohene Agyapong, and to bring the Akufo-Addo government into disrepute.” He clarified that he remains a committed member of the NPP and supports President Akufo-Addo’s efforts to combat corruption.

Taylor who said Mr Kennedy Agyapong “contradicts himself” also challenging him to explain why he hasn’t resigned from his board positions if he believes NPP members are “stealing from Ghana like there is no tomorrow”.

“So if Kennedy tells you NPP members are thieves, who are the thieves? He is a first class criminal, because as we speak today, he is still serving a criminal. Kennedy Agyapong is serving Bawumia, he is serving Akufo-Addo, he is serving NPP as the board chair of Ghana Gas. So if Kennedy stands in front of you and tells you NPP members are thieves, they are stealing from Ghana like there is no tomorrow, he is basically still working for the Akufo-Addo administration. Kennedy is working for them. Why doesn’t Kennedy resign from the Ghana gas board? Why doesn’t he tell his wife that after almost 8 years, she should step down as the board chair of Ghana shippers authority? No. But he is standing in front of you telling you NPP members are thieves. The guy is a thief. He contradicts himself. He is basically still employed by Akufo-Addo,” Taylor mentioned.

“As we speak today, when Ghana Gas sits to meet, some of the money comes to you.  As we speak today, when Ghana shippers authority sits to meet, your wife is paid. Today, all the incentives you are enjoying, you are still enjoying them,” Taylor also said.

Why haven’t you resigned from Ghana Gas if Akufo-Addo gov’t is corrupt? – Kevin Taylor asks Ken Agyapong

Recent developments in Ghanaian politics have brought the issue of corruption to the fore, with media personality Kevin Taylor challenging Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong over his affiliations.

Agyapong, a board member at Ghana Gas and a vocal member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has recently been in the spotlight for his own allegations against the NPP.

Taylor asserts that Ken Agyapong, who sits on the board of Ghana Gas, has greatly benefited from the Akufo-Addo administration and has gained more financial advantages from the current administration than anyone else.

He made these remarks while commenting on a series of statements made by Agyapong against the NPP and the President Akufo-Addo administration.

Taylor, who is a popular critic of the current administration, did not understand why Agyapong who “is basically still working for the Akufo-Addo administration”, would say the government is embroiled in corruption, when the latter according to Taylor is a key beneficiary.

“If Kennedy tells you NPP members are thieves, who are the thieves? He is a first class criminal, because as we speak today, he is still serving a criminal. Kennedy Agyapong is serving Bawumia, he is serving Akufo-Addo, he is serving NPP as the board chair of Ghana Gas.

Kevin Taylor underlined the apparent contradiction in Mr Agyapong’s stance, stating that while Agyapong publicly accuses his party members of corruption, he continues to work with them. Taylor also noted that Agyapong still benefits from contracts awarded by COCOBOD, a state-owned entity, and that his wife continues to earn from her position at the Ghana Shippers Authority.

Taylor challenged Agyapong by asking that, if he indeed felt the NPP government was dishonest, “Why doesn’t [he] resign from the Ghana gas board? Why doesn’t he tell his wife that after almost 8 years, she should step down as the board chair of Ghana shippers authority? No. But he is standing in front of you telling you NPP members are thieves. The guy is a thief. He contradicts himself. He is basically still employed by Akufo-Addo. Why is it that you have not rejected what Akufo-Addo gave to you to make money out of?”

On October 2, 2023, Ken Agyapong was reported to have accused the NPP of corruption and looting public funds. He indicated that the extent of this alleged looting was deeply concerning and claimed that these stolen funds were being stashed abroad.

However, Agyapong later clarified that his comments were taken out of context. He explained that the video containing his remarks had been edited to create a misleading impression.

NPP Primaries: Former Suhum MP threatens to’ put Ken Agyapong to bed’ before 6pm on Nov 4

The former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare-Ansah, has confidently stated that Kennedy Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, will face defeat in his own constituency during the NPP election scheduled for November 4, 2023.

During an interview on Wontumi Radio on October 27, 2023, Opare-Ansah expressed his strong belief in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ability to secure a victory in the Central Region.

“We will beat him in the election in the Central Region, and he should try and make any attempt to cause anything. If he tries, I will let him sleep early, I will let him sleep before 6,” he said.

The former MP questioned Agyapong’s loyalty to the party during their years in opposition.

“Why did Kennedy feel like there were no men in the NPP? At the time that we were fighting for the party, where was he? Today we are in power and we have given you numerous contracts”, he alleged.

Additionally, he brought attention to reports that Agyapong had threatened to disclose government secrets.

“The last time he made someone call me that, if I don’t stop talking about him, he would spill the government’s secrets. Am I in the government for him to spill the government’s secret? That is what he does, threatening people that if they don’t do this, they will do this,” he added.

Kennedy, along with Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, will compete for the position of flagbearer.

The NPP plans to elect a new leader of the party on November 4, 2023, to replace President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

  • 70% of COCOBOD contracts were given to Kennedy Agyapong – Kevin Taylor claims

70% of COCOBOD contracts were given to Kennedy Agyapong – Kevin Taylor claims

Vocal critic Kevin Taylor has levelled serious allegations against Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant for Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). Taylor claims that Agyapong has been awarded approximately 70% of all contracts from the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

According to Taylor, Kennedy Agyapong has benefited immensely from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration. Taylor states, “He is the one who has gotten more money under this administration than anyone else. When you go to COCOBOD, 70% of the contracts, they give it to Kennedy Agyapong.”

Agyapong has also reportedly held key positions, including a place on the Ghana Gas board. Taylor goes further to claim that the approval for such roles came directly from Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

Taylor went on to question Agyapong’s wife, alleging that she was made the board chair of the Ghana Shippers Authority with Akufo-Addo’s approval.

He made these remarks on his online show, With All Due Respect, while reacting to Agyapong’s recent comments about the NPP’s alleged looting of public funds.

He described Agyapong as a “thief” and a “funny dude” who is “still enjoying from the government” he claims is corrupt.

So if Kennedy stands in front of you and tells you NPP members are thieves, they are stealing from Ghana like there is no tomorrow, he is basically still working for the Akufo-Addo administration,” Taylor lashed out.

Kennedy Agyapong, on October 2, 2023, was reported to have made accusations of corruption against his own party. He claimed that the magnitude of the NPP’s alleged looting of public funds was as if “there was no tomorrow”.

“The way the NPP is looting this country, you will think there is no tomorrow. You steal all this money and stash same abroad, what do you mean? The youth of this country are not working, yet you are intimidating people. I will put my life on the line and defend them,” he is reported to have said.

However, Agyapong later clarified that the reports surrounding his allegations had been taken out of context. He stated that the video from which these reports stemmed was “culled from a private meeting” he had with party communicators in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. In a statement, Agyapong emphasised that he remains a committed member of the NPP and accused the media of creating a “deadly impression” of the party.

“Concert! Confused man is lying again” – Netizens laugh off Ken Agyapong’s “$800m” claim

Users of X (formerly known as Twitter) have joined the discussion surrounding allegations of bribery within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party approaches its presidential primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.

Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asserted that he was offered $800 million to withdraw from the party’s presidential race and support his rival, Vice President Dr. Bawumia.

In an interview with Time FM, he said “Does he know the number of people who have approached me but for the love of Ghana and the delegates I have said I will never do it?

“The money they offered is $800 million, if he doesn’t know. He should ask Mr Oppong Bio, if that is what they are saying but I said no I will not step down, Ghana first.

“In 2016, you people were not able to buy pickups. How come today you are able to offer me $800 million? So I said I won’t step down…” he stated.

But X users are finding it difficult to believe that such a hefty amount would be proposed just for a candidate to give up his presidential ambitions.

Kindly accept my apology, if I have unknowingly offended you – Kennedy Agyapong to Ghanaians

The aspiring presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has recently conveyed a message of reconciliation during his walk in Cape Coast.

Mr Agyapong emphasized his willingness to forgive anyone who may have offended him and encouraged fellow Ghanaians to extend the same spirit of forgiveness if he had unintentionally caused them any harm.

Mr Agyapong stated, “I forgive everybody. Anyone who has crossed paths with me, I extend my forgiveness. Likewise, if I have unintentionally wronged anyone, I seek their forgiveness.”

The New Patriotic Party is currently in the process of selecting its official flagbearer who will represent the party in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for December 2024.

Kennedy Agyapong is among the contenders, facing competition from prominent figures such as Vice-President Mahumudu Bawumia, former Minister for Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimo.

The NPP is scheduled to conduct its national delegates conference on November 4 to elect the flagbearer who will lead the party in the 2024 general elections.

You can’t promise Northerners when you haven’t fulfilled your promises at Assin Central – Tolon MP to Ken Agyapong

The Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Tolon constituency, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, has issued a challenge to his fellow MP from the Assin Central constituency, Kennedy Agyapong.

Speaking to the media, he urged Kennedy Agyapong to prioritize building a factory in his own constituency before making promises to the people of the northern regions regarding similar projects.

During a recent campaign tour in the northern regions, Kennedy Agyapong, a hopeful flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), acquired land in the Tolon constituency with the intention of establishing a factory there.

Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, the Tolon MP, expressed skepticism about Kennedy Agyapong‘s promise, highlighting that he has yet to fulfill a similar commitment in his own constituency. Alhaji Iddrisu implied that Kennedy Agyapong’s actions were more about campaigning to win the support of party delegates.

He stated, “Kennedy was here, and he said he has acquired land from the chief for a factory to be built here in Tolon. Those of you who know Assin Central, please go there and see for yourself; there is no factory built by Kennedy, so don’t fall for his claims.”

Alhaji Iddrisu further emphasized that out of the 175 Members of Parliament in the Ghanaian Parliament, none of them is actively supporting Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign. He argued that this lack of endorsement from his fellow MPs suggests that Kennedy Agyapong may not be the most suitable candidate to lead the party. Alhaji Iddrisu instead encouraged the party’s supporters to rally behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their candidate to break the cycle of eight years of political rule.

He urged delegates to vote overwhelmingly for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the NPP primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.

Additionally, Alhaji Iddrisu revealed that MPs, CEOs, MMDCEs, party contractors, and other business figures had collectively committed to covering the expenses associated with Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s campaign during the primaries.

Kennedy Agyapong is a reckless speaker – Frederick Opare-Ansah

Former Member of Parliament (MP) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) representing the Suhum Constituency, Frederick Opare-Ansah, has characterized NPP flagbearer contender Kennedy Agyapong as someone who engages in loose and imprudent speech and lacks the intellectual capacity to make meaningful contributions to parliamentary deliberations.

Mr Opare-Ansah argued that Kennedy Agyapong, who represents the Assin Central Constituency, has failed to make any substantial contributions or engage in “seminal” discussions on the parliamentary floor despite serving as an MP for over two decades. He suggested that Agyapong’s inability to do so is indicative of his lack of intellectual prowess.

He further asserted that Kennedy Agyapong’s primary mode of operation is making indiscreet remarks and insulting others on campaign platforms, rather than engaging in substantive parliamentary discourse. Opare-Ansah questioned Agyapong’s parliamentary record, stating, “He sat in Parliament for 20 years. Give me one statement he has made as an MP apart from being on the radio to insult and speak indiscreetly on campaign platforms.”

During an interview with the media, Mr Opare-Ansah, who supports Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to become the NPP’s flagbearer, emphasized that any attempts by Kennedy Agyapong and his team to undermine the people’s will in the forthcoming National Delegates Conference for selecting a flagbearer will face fierce opposition.

Kennedy Agyapong is one of four contenders seeking to lead the NPP in the 2024 General Elections.

While he is considered a formidable candidate, various surveys and polls indicate that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who convincingly won the Super Delegates Conference, is the overwhelming favorite to win the election scheduled for November 4, 2023.

We will give you a showdown if you don’t cool down – Frances Essiam cautions Kennedy Agyapong

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, Frances Essiam, has issued a warning to Kennedy Agyapong, a hopeful candidate for the NPP’s flagbearer position.

She expressed concerns about Agyapong’s statements potentially damaging the party’s reputation.

During an interview on Wontumi TV on October 25, 2023, she emphasized the need for decorum in his public remarks, as any failure to do so could lead to a direct confrontation.

She further cautioned those close to Kennedy Agyapong to avoid conveying false information to him.

“Akompreko, I am telling you, you are my younger sibling, if you open your mouth again and you do not seek the interest of the party… and those who have been speaking lies to him should be very careful because we know them,” Essiam warned.

Additionally, Essiam called upon party members to actively participate in overseeing and holding flagbearer hopefuls accountable for their public statements, with the aim of safeguarding the party’s reputation.

“So, he should cool down and I am telling Akompreko that I am fire woman like him and I can engage in a showdown like him, so, I plead with him he shouldn’t let some of us give him a showdown.

“I am urging the party foot soldiers that regardless of the camp that you belong to, any candidate that will make utterances which will disturb the party’s image, we will deal with the person.

“…honorable Akompreko you are responsible for what comes out from your camp, that is the same way that the vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is equally responsible for anything that comes out from his camp but when we compare the heat at one camp it is higher than the other,” she added.

Ken Agyapong is not a good person, he wanted to start a fight in the North – NPP Chairman

Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Sagnarigu, Alhaji Musah Fuseini Dangoomah, has strongly criticized Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful of the party, labelling him as a “bad person” due to his actions and unfounded claims.

Dangoomah’s rebuke comes in response to allegations made by Kennedy Agyapong, suggesting that some NPP chairmen had engaged in vote-selling during the NPP’s super delegates’ election.

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV on October 23, 2023, Dangoomah expressed his concerns about Agyapong’s actions, asserting that Agyapong’s baseless claims were undermining the unity and reputation of the NPP.

Specifically, Dangoomah highlighted the accusation levelled against himself, where Agyapong alleged that he had accepted GH¢100,000 and a brand-new pickup truck in exchange for his vote during the August 26 election. Chairman Dangoomah firmly dismissed these allegations as groundless and untrue.

“Ken is not a good person, but rather a bad person. When Ken came to the Northern region, he wanted to start a fight. He claimed that Dr. Bawumia gave me a brand-new pickup and 1 billion to vote for him,” Dangoomah stated. “I asked him who told him I took 1 billion and a brand-new pickup. He is an elderly person, so why would he be saying such things? He is a leader in the NPP, and the kind of things he has been saying; he cannot be a flagbearer because he doesn’t speak the truth.”

Continuing, Dangoomah emphasised, “In the election that we went to, nobody gave me 1 billion, and nobody gave me a pickup. Many people know the truth, and they are aware that Ken is not a good person and is spreading falsehood.”

Dangoomah cautioned Agyapong about the potential repercussions of his actions, stating, “I want to tell Kennedy Agyapong that next time he comes to the Northern region, whatever he will come and say there, he should try and speak the truth because the NPP wants to break the eight.”

He concluded with a stern warning, ““… I want to tell Ken that, for me, Chairman Dangoomah, the next time he comes to the Northern region and does that again, he will see. I will show him down,” while also advising Agyapong to consider joining the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Kennedy Agyapong is one of four contenders vying for the NPP’s flagbearership slot, alongside Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh. The NPP has scheduled November 4, 2023, as the date for electing a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the leader of the party.

I will post evidence on social media if you dare me – Ken to delegates who sold their votes

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbear hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong has issued a threat to disclose photos of individuals he alleges sold their votes during the NPP super delegates’ elections in August 2023.

Ken Agyapong claimed that numerous party executives, including chairpersons, accepted significant sums of money and new vehicles in exchange for their votes during the elections.

According to him, some party leaders received as much as GH¢100,000 and brand-new pickup trucks in exchange for their support.

“The super delegates election, 945 or so electorate. Some executives got as much as GH¢100,000, which is 1 billion old cedis, and some got Navara pickups. I have the pictures here, and if they dare me, I will put them on social media for everybody to see… they took a brand new pickup Navara, like the Mitsubishi pickup I brought to Yaa-Naa which is worth $40,000,” he said.

He tasked other delegates for the November 4 vote to demand similar amounts or refuse to cast their votes for such candidates.

“So, $40,000 multiplied by 11 is $440,000. In the Ashanti region, some got as high as GH¢150,000. Then some of the chairmen got Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, so why won’t he win?

“This time I am advising all delegates and polling station executives to take at least GH¢100,000, if not, don’t vote for them because I, Kennedy Agyapong, with a loud mouth sitting here, I have one vote, and the polling station executives have one vote, your chairman has one vote, everybody has one vote,” he added.

Kennedy Agyapong will compete for the NPP’s flagbearer slot along with three other contenders, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh. The NPP has scheduled November 4, 2023, as the date for the party to elect a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party’s leader.

A dramatic scene unfolded when Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), met with delegates from the Tamale North and Sagnarigu constituencies in the Northern Region.

During the meeting, Ken Agyapong, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, made allegations that certain party chairpersons had received over GH¢100,000 and brand-new cars as inducements to support a particular candidate.

However, Ken’s claims were challenged by the NPP constituency chairman for Sagnarigu, who insisted that he did not receive any incentives to support the vice president.

In response, Ken Agyapong presented pictures of some party chairpersons apparently receiving money and vehicles as evidence to support his claims. This revelation was met with enthusiastic cheers from the delegates.

Ken then displayed the evidence on his phone, causing most of the delegates to stand up and rush to view the visuals. Some of them appeared visibly surprised as they examined the evidence presented by the NPP presidential hopeful.

  • NPP Primaries: I have been offered money to step down – Kennedy Agyapong claims

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has in a candid revelation made a striking claim that his pivotal role within the party is so recognised that there have been attempts to financially incentivise him to withdraw from the flagbearership contest.

Speaking on Tamale FM, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central disclosed that several individuals within the party have approached him, offering significant sums of money to relinquish his bid.

However, Agyapong insists that acceding to these requests would be tantamount to abandoning the party at a critical juncture.

Agyapong, known for his forthrightness, did not mince words as he underscored his indispensability to the NPP’s electoral prospects.

“…without me, the NPP can’t win elections,” he affirmed. “Do you know how many people are begging me? You know, the money that they’ve offered me to step down? If I step down, we will lose. With the sacrifices the party people have made, I cannot selfishly take that amount of money and leave them to their fate,” he added, highlighting his commitment to the party’s cause.

Agyapong further reflected on the possibility of being sidelined by his party, cautioning against the perils of such a move.

“How can NPP dump me? If they dump me, they will go into opposition. We all need each other,” he asserted, hinting at the mutual dependency between him and the party.

Drawing from the experiences of others who have felt exploited and subsequently disregarded, Agyapong voiced a stern resolution to avoid a similar destiny.

“You see, NPP will always want to use you and dump you. I will not allow them to dump me anymore; I won’t do it. I will not sacrifice for NPP, for my children, my family, and generations to be humiliated,” he stated emphatically.

These revelations have thrown a spotlight on internal dynamics ahead of the NPP primaries, hinting at underlying tensions and the high stakes involved in the jostle for the flagbearer position.

“How can NPP dump me? We need each other” – Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a hopeful contender for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has boldly claimed that his involvement is pivotal to the party’s success in the 2024 general elections.

The outspoken Member of Parliament for Assin Central made these assertive remarks during a candid interview on Tamale FM.

Agyapong disclosed that there have been propositions made to him, involving substantial sums of money, urging him to step aside from the contest. However, he maintains an unwavering stance, asserting that his withdrawal would spell doom for the party’s electoral prospects.

“…without me, the NPP can’t win elections,” Agyapong affirmed. “Do you know how many people are begging me? You know, the money that they’ve offered me to step down? If I step down, we will lose. With the sacrifices the party people have made, I cannot selfishly take that amount of money and leave them to their fate,” he said.

The MP’s conviction about his indispensable role within the NPP extends to a broader concern regarding his treatment by party affiliates.

He reflected anxiously on the prospect of being sidelined, stressing that both he and the party thrive mutually. “How can NPP dump me? If they dump me, they will go into opposition. We all need each other,” he asserted.

In a fervent declaration, Agyapong also voiced his resolve to resist any form of exploitation or disregard from the party ranks, citing past instances where others have been used and discarded.

“You see, NPP will always want to use you and dump you. I will not allow them to dump me anymore; I won’t do it. I will not sacrifice for NPP, for my children, my family, and generations to be humiliated,” he proclaimed.

Kennedy Agyapong’s emphatic statements underline a deep-seated belief in his value to the NPP, highlighting a determined fight against perceived injustice within party dynamics.

In a disconcerting tone, the young man issued a threat, insinuating that delegates who choose to vote for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in the forthcoming delegates’ election would potentially encounter violence.

This ardent supporter left no room for ambiguity as he underscored the imperative for delegates in the constituency to wholeheartedly endorse their outspoken Member of Parliament (MP) from Assin Central. The video has since gone viral, drawing significant public interest.

He emphasised that on November 4, 2023, there will be no tolerance for delegates who fail to align their votes with MP Agyapong. The video has since garnered significant attention on TikTok.

“I am saying that we will not give you the chance to come and vote in the first place,” the young man said in the video. “You cannot step foot in the voting centre to come and vote, and nobody can bring any police from anywhere; nobody can bring a soldier from anywhere; nobody can bring any colonel from anywhere to Assin Central.”

“I am telling you. This (Kennedy Agyapong) is our own and we in Assin, if Kennedy becomes president and he doesn’t even do anything, all that we want is to have Assin in the history books,” he added.

He rained curses on any delegate in Assin Central who would vote for Bawumia on November 4.

“If you vote for Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, God’s wrath will be upon you. Someone has taken care of you and you can’t show gratitude to him but by rewarding him in this manner, God will bring his wrath on you,” the TikToker added.

He did not spare the people of Assin Central, referring to them as villagers in his effusions.

“It is because Assin Central is a village and the people are foolish and do not travel; they don’t know Kumasi nor Accra; f**l, if God wills it and Kennedy Agyapong wins, you would see how shameful you would be,” he added.

Stop making such remarks and focus on addressing important matters” – Ya-Na advice Kennedy Agyapong

The King of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abubakari, has cautioned NPP Presidential aspirant, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, to refrain from making statements that promote division and animosity towards Northern residents.

The King expressed his concern about such behaviors among politicians, which unfairly depict Northerners as inferior citizens.

This advice came during the flagbearer hopeful’s courtesy visit to the Gbewaa palace, where he informed the King of his presence in Dagbon.

Ya-Na Abubakari cited comments made by the aspirant, suggesting that a victory for Bawumia would lead to the 2024 elections being dominated by Northerners, as a cause for concern.

“I have heard you ask why the 2024 elections should be about Northerners. It was an unfortunate comment. I urge you to desist from such comments and campaign on issues. You must be prepared to support whoever the party will elect.”

On his part, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong promised to run a clean campaign devoid of tribalism.

He also added, “In 2020, I promised the Ya-Na a V8 Land-cruiser. Unfortunately, I have not been able to deliver that. I am here today to deliver a pickup to the Ya-Na to fulfil the promise I made to him during the 2020 election”.

The flagbearer hopeful is visiting the region to seek the backing of party delegates in preparation for the pivotal November 4 elections.

Wontumi doesn’t have what it takes to be a regional chairman – Ken’s campaign manager

The campaign manager for Kennedy Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kwame Owusu, has expressed his determination to work towards the removal of the current Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, in the upcoming elections.

Speaking to the media, Mr Owusu expressed the view that Chairman Wontumi’s behavior indicates he is not fit to lead the NPP in the region.

During an interview on Akoma FM on October 16, 2023, Kwame Owusu stated that Chairman Wontumi’s conduct suggests that he is not suited to lead the NPP in the region.

He accused the Ashanti Regional chairman of displaying bias in a role that requires ensuring fair treatment for all.

“We don’t want somebody who is biased… we are going to ensure that someone like Wontumi (is removed).

“We will campaign against him (Wontumi) because I don’t want a biased person in a position that requires fairness. How can we allow that to happen? We are saying that he (Wontumi) has not demonstrated what it takes to be a chairman of a region,” he said in Twi.

“I’m saying this from the standpoint of his behaviour. I’m not talking about any animosity between us. But if someone is a chairman in our party, he must act as one, he must remain neutral,” he clarified.

He additionally stated that apart from the NPP Ashanti Regional chairman, they would also campaign for the removal of other party leaders who have exhibited similar behavior from their positions.

  • You are intelligent, come and join me as running mate – Osofo Kyiri Abosom to Kennedy Agyapong

You are intelligent, come and join me as running mate – Osofo Kyiri Abosom to Kennedy Agyapong

The Founder and Leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Christian Kwabena Andrew, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has extended an invitation to a prospective flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, to consider joining him as his running mate.

He expressed his belief that Kennedy Agyapong’s aspirations to lead the NPP may face challenges given the unfolding dynamics of the party’s primaries.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom commended Kennedy Agyapong for his intellect and extensive political experience, suggesting that he would make an excellent match as a running mate for the 2024 general elections.

During an interview with Kasapa FM, monitored by GhanaWeb, Osofo Kyiri Abosom encouraged Kennedy Agyapong to switch allegiance from the NPP and stand as his running mate for GUM in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

“With my brother Kennedy Agyapong, I would say he is knowledgeable and intelligent, so if it’s possible he should come and support me. This is a serious issue I’m telling him. He is such an intelligent person but his long talks and everything he is doing will be in vain. So if he can he should join forces with me for GUM.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom pointed out that Kennedy Agyapong’s path to becoming the flagbearer of GUM was not feasible since he had already been elected and officially endorsed.

Consequently, the most suitable role for Kennedy Agyapong within the party would be to assume the position of a running mate.

“If Ken wants to lead while I become the running mate, that’s not possible because I’ve already been elected so why would I step down for him to take charge? The electoral commission has taken my details already so should I go and change it? that’s not possible,” he said.

  • 7 reasons why Wanlov the Kubolor would not vote for Kennedy Agyapong

7 reasons why Wanlov the Kubolor would not vote for Kennedy Agyapong

Ghanaian artiste Wanlov the Kubolor has shared his reasons for not supporting presidential aspirant and MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.

This response came following a Twitter poll by GhanaWeb on October 16, where social media users were asked to provide their reasons for not voting for Kennedy Agyapong as president.

The responses varied, with many highlighting his outspoken and controversial nature as well as his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

On the other hand, some expressed their support for the aspirant, considering him a strong candidate for the presidency.

Wanlov the Kubolor chimed in on the conversation, providing his reasons for not endorsing Kennedy Agyapong. In his response to GhanaWeb’s post on Twitter, he listed specific actions for which he held the aspirant accountable.

Wanlov’s tweet stated, “said to kill Ewes; said Ghanaians from the north cannot lead the country; put a target on a journalist that got him murdered; behaves idiotic and petty; is tribalist; threatens judges; will be as bad as Akufu Addo, if not worse.”

These reasons prompted further discussion on the matter, with some users agreeing with Wanlov’s assertions while others questioned the accuracy of these claims. The aim was to verify the veracity of Kubolor’s claims and determine whether they were factual or personal opinions.

    1. Claims Ken said he would kill Ewes:

In an interview with Oman FM in 2012, Kennedy Agyapong allegedly made incendiary comments and suggested violence against Voltarians in the Ashanti Region.

He is quoted to have said: “Today I declare war on this country; Gbevlo-Lartey and his people, IGP, should know this. Voltarians in the Ashanti Region will not be spared. If anyone touches you, butcher him with a cutlass.”

However, the MP has indicated that he meant no harm with this statement. In June 2023, he clarified that the comment was in defence of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Volta Region who were allegedly being molested by some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and not to incite hate against Ewes as purported.

    2. Northerners not fit to lead the country:

There is no reported instance of him making such a statement.

    3. Allegedly instigated the murder of a journalist:

Kennedy Agyapong publicly disclosed the identity of journalist Ahmed Suale, an investigative journalist with Tiger Eye PI, in 2018. Tragically, Suale was assassinated by unknown gunmen in January 2019.

    4. Behaves idiotic and petty:

This is a personal opinion expressed by Wanlov the Kubolor and may not be a widely accepted critique.

    5. Tribalist:

While there are allegations of tribalistic statements against Kennedy Agyapong, these remain claims and have not been definitively proven.

    6. Threatened judges:

In 2020, Kennedy Agyapong faced legal action when he publicly threatened a High Court judge during a live TV discussion on NET 2 TV. An apology was subsequently issued.

    7. Ken will be a bad president, if not worse than Akuffo Addo :
Also just a personal opinion or prediction and not to be taken as a fact.

  • Supporters of Ken Agyapong, Alan switch to Bawumia’s camp

Supporters of Ken Agyapong, Alan switch to Bawumia’s camp

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s influence within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continues to grow, with an increasing number of party members openly expressing their support for the Vice President. This surge of support is a testament to his rising popularity within the party.

Just a week after executives in the Assin Central Constituency of the Central Region openly declared their backing for Dr. Bawumia, executives and supporters from the Ashanti Region have followed suit.

During a news conference held on Sunday, October 15, 2023, supporters who had previously aligned themselves with John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten and Kennedy Agyapong switched their allegiance to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. They pledged unwavering support for his potential presidential candidacy.

Led by Mr. Dawuda Afriyie, the First Vice Chairman of the Offinso North Constituency, they were captured in a viral video singing praises to the Vice President and chanting the slogan “It’s Possible.”

Addressing the press, Adul Aziz Ismail, also known as Kennedy Ba, a polling station executive from Kwaman Methodist in the Afigya Kwabre North Constituency, emphasized the necessity for a candidate with a strong chance of winning, and they believe Dr. Bawumia is that candidate.

He stated, “We are looking for a winnable flagbearer for the 2024 polls. Some of our MPs and executives have come under severe attacks over their choice of their preferred candidates. The Majority Leader, who has been an MP for several years, knows the best candidate to be the flagbearer and settled on the Vice President as the best candidate. Our father Kan Dapaah believes Bawumia is the obvious choice, and we have bought into their idea. As a result, we have resolved to support the Vice President.”

Mr. Adul Aziz Ismail characterized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the ideal candidate to lead the NPP as its flagbearer in the 2024 elections. He stressed that this endorsement is driven by the greater good of the NPP and not influenced by any incentives or personal interests.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dawuda Afriyie, a dedicated supporter of Alan Kyeremanten in the Ashanti Region, expressed his disappointment with the behavior of the NPP member who had resigned.

He stated, “After Alan’s decision to resign from the NPP, it is obvious I am not a kid in politics to be shown which path to choose. I voted for Busia in 1969 and I have been voting to date. I have supporters, and we decided to throw our support behind Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. We have supporters in the 15 constituencies assigned to me, and I can assure you they will all be for Bawumia now.”

  • Our father will represent majority of Ghanaians, not a small section – Ken Agyapong’s daughters

Our father will represent majority of Ghanaians, not a small section – Ken Agyapong’s daughters

The daughters of Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have provided reasons behind their belief that their father would make an exceptional president for Ghana if elected.

The four ladies in a viral video noted that unlike representing just a fraction or a minute section of citizens, their father, who is also the MP for Assin Central, will be the voice for the majority of voiceless Ghanaians in the country.

They also highlighted his achievements as a father and the way he raised them. According to them, these leadership qualities would be transferred to his potential government.

“Hello everyone, first of all, thank you all for taking time off to support our dad, we all just want you to know things about him,” one daughter is heard saying in a video posted online.

“Aside from the fact that he is a great father, he has done a great job raising us, so, if he could raise a family, a village of his own, imagine what he can do for the country of Ghana,” she adds.

“In addition to that, he is a politician who represents the foundation of Ghana, he is going to be a president who represents the 99% and not just the one percent,” another adds.

The four at the end of their video declared: “No Ken, no vote! No Ken, no vote!”

Kennedy Agyapong, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Assin North constituency, is actively campaigning for the position of the NPP’s flagbearer.

Kennedy Agyapong recently hosted the third edition of his renowned showdown walk in the Western Region, where he continued to critique the government and his primary opponent in the forthcoming NPP primaries scheduled for November 4.

Agyapong is set to vie for the NPP’s flagbearer position, alongside three other contenders: Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The NPP has chosen November 4, 2023, as the date to select a new leader for the party, who will ultimately succeed President Akufo-Addo.

The hooligans who invaded UTV are tarnishing our reputation – Ken Agyapong

Presidential aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, Kennedy Agyapong, has strongly denounced the recent assault on UTV studios by a faction with NPP affiliations.

He expressed concern that such actions not only harm the party’s image but also pose a risk to media freedom in the nation.

“When you want to terminate someone’s employment, pastors come to plead, chiefs intervene, and politicians issue threats, as seen when NPP members attacked UTV. I mean, what is this? You can’t do that in any country.

“It’s unacceptable to forcibly enter a private TV and radio station simply because they don’t speak for you. These actions need to change; NPP members are tarnishing our reputation,” he said.

The Assin Central MP also pointed out President Akufo-Addo’s prior commitments to bolster media freedom in Ghana when assuming office.

Agyapong raised questions regarding the recent incident at UTV Studios and similar events, questioning why they had occurred despite the president’s pledge to promote a vibrant and unrestricted media environment.

“When the president was aspiring, he pledged to liberate journalism, media. And all those things. So, what happened? That they want every TV station and the media to talk about a particular person and those that fail then attack them, so today you people and NDC who are more violent?” he added.

Mr Agyapong made these remarks during an interview on Skyy Power Radio in the Western Region, as part of his flagbearer campaign, which also featured a Showdown March.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from the invasion of UTV studios by some of its members last Saturday, October 7, 2023.

A group affiliated with the NPP stormed the UTV studios during the live broadcast of its entertainment program, United Showbiz shortly after it commenced.

The show then abruptly went off air while commercials filled the screen. The group trooped in to demand the removal of musician Kwame A-Plus, from the programme for tearing up a letter said to be from the Communication wing of the NPP.

Videos of the incident went viral on social media with many condemning the intrusion, while others questioned the state of security at the media house.

Hours later, the Police in a statement announced that it had arrested 16 persons involved in the incident. Subsequently, institutions such as the Ministry of Information, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the National Media Commission (NMC) condemned the attacked, noting that free expression and freedom of the media must be fiercely protected.

According to the GJA, some individuals managed to escape as “30 hooligans attacked the studios of the Accra-based private television station”.

In response to the brouhaha, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party has rendered an apology to UTV, noting that it would cooperate with the police to investigate the matter.

Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, who engaged the press noted that the party did not sanction anyone to go and disrupt the United Showbiz programme. He is quoted to have said “We think that the attack is unacceptable, and it’s condemnable.”

NPP Primaries: I won’t leave but I’ll frustrate you if I’m cheated – Ken Agyapong to NPP

A candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, Kennedy Agyapong, has issued a stern caution to his party in anticipation of the presidential primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.

During an interview on Skyy Power FM on October 13, 2023, Agyapong noted that he would frustrate the party instead of exiting should the primaries be characterised by electoral malpractices and violence.

He clarified, “It is not true. Condition wise, I won’t leave; I will remain, but I will frustrate you. Yes, I will frustrate you heavily.

“What I am saying is that in the upcoming election, if they don’t repeat the chaos and violence we saw on August 26, then I do not have a problem. Whoever wins, I will support.

“But if they repeat the events of August 26, I will give them a showdown, and there’s no two ways about it,” he said.

He confidently stated that he outpaces Alan Kyerematen, a former NPP member who has recently departed from the party to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections.

He added “I am a very fair-minded person; I am not asking too much. If nobody is beaten, the votes proceed decently, and Dr. Bawumia wins, I will support. But if there is chaos and violence… I have built my system so that I will get my results, and nobody can cheat me in the elections, so I am only asking for fairness.

“The camping that they went to do at Kingstel Hotel, the same place where we took security there in 2016. This time they should go and camp people…if they want unity, they should stop such things because, for me, I am worse than Alan, oh yes, I am hinting to you that I am worse than Alan if there is no fairness, I will give them a showdown.”

Kennedy will vie for the NPP flagbearer position, alongside three other competitors, namely Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The NPP has scheduled November 4, 2023, as the date for selecting a new leader to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the head of the party.

  • My focus on patriotism, honesty will earn me votes – Kennedy Agyapong

My focus on patriotism, honesty will earn me votes – Kennedy Agyapong

A flagbearer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed his confidence in winning the party’s November 4 primaries.

Speaking to the media in Takoradi before his Showdown Walk event, Kennedy Agyapong called on his supporters to actively participate in the primaries, regardless of the outcome.

He emphasized the importance of patriotism, honesty, and discipline for Ghana’s rapid development.

He highlighted the need for Ghanaians to prioritize the welfare and interests of the country over personal gain.

Kennedy Agyapong further pointed out that dishonesty is a major problem in the country, causing economic challenges and hindering effective resource and business management.

He believes that addressing these issues is crucial for the development of Ghana.

“We need to be patriotic, honest, and disciplined to develop our country. People are not patriotic, we are greedy and selfish and don’t think about the welfare and the interest of the country at heart. Ghanaians think about themselves before the country and the moment you put yourself first, you defeat the purpose of development.”

“The level of dishonesty in this country is causing the economy to fail at all levels because foreigners have proven to us that we are not poor but because of dishonesty, we are not able to manage our resources and businesses and that is collapsing the country.”

  • “The others used money to intimidate people” – Ken Agyapong on why Alan lost the delegate election

“The others used money to intimidate people” – Ken Agyapong on why Alan lost the delegate election

Kennedy Agyapong, flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has provided insights into why his fellow contender, Alan Kyerematen, faced challenges in the NPP super delegates election held on August 26, 2023.

During an interview on Neat FM on October 5, 2023, Agyapong asserted that Alan Kyerematen‘s choice to maintain a low profile within the party for extended periods had consequences for his campaign. He explained that during the years when Kyerematen remained relatively inactive in politics, a new generation of voters had emerged.

Many of these young voters were now eligible to participate in the election, but they were unfamiliar with Alan Kyerematen due to his prolonged absence from the political scene.

“He (Alan) and I were engaging in a fair campaign, but the others were on the other side and using money to intimidate people.

“They were going to win because of their intimidation tactics, wealth, and power, but Alan and I were going to win because of our popularity among the general public.

“Alan has been a part of the system for a while, but there came a point where it appeared he stayed quiet and was silent. The majority of the children who were young at the time are now adults who are able to vote, so if you think back to when Kufour was in power when someone was 10 years old, they are now 25 years old and don’t know about Alan at the time,” he said.

Kennedy Agyapong further elaborated that one of the significant missteps made by Alan Kyerematen could have been his decision not to become a Member of Parliament.

Agyapong suggested that his own continuous presence, both in the media and as a Member of Parliament, had been instrumental in preserving his visibility and popularity within the political landscape.

“Many of them don’t know Alan because he withdrew from society and went quiet over the years, but I have consistently served in Parliament, and I believe that honorable Alan made the mistake of not being forced to become a Member of Parliament. For me, my consistency on radio and television in good and bad times has made me well known,” he added.

In the super delegates election, Bawumia secured a total of 629 votes, which amounted to 68.15 percent of the overall votes, making him the top candidate.

Kennedy Agyapong secured the second position with 132 votes, equating to 14.30 percent of the vote share. Alan Kyerematen garnered 95 votes, accounting for 10.29 percent of the total votes cast.
