Jude Bellingham: Real Madrid ‘lucky’ to concede just three vs. Arsenal

Jude Bellingham has admitted that Real Madrid were fortunate to lose by only three goals in their 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Arsenal took control of the game in the second half at the Emirates Stadium, with Declan Rice scoring two brilliant free kicks — the first direct free kicks of his entire career — and Mikel Merino adding a third goal late in the match.

The result puts the Gunners in a strong position going into the return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu next week.

Although Real Madrid are known for their dramatic Champions League comebacks, they have never managed to overturn a 3-0 first leg loss in the competition’s history.

“We were nowhere near [our level], and Arsenal were really good,” Bellingham told CBS. “They could have had way more. We were lucky to get away with three. There is a second leg, that’s the thing we’re holding onto. We’re going to need something unbelievably special, something crazy.”

Real Madrid, the 15-time Champions League winners, were shocked by Arsenal’s three quick goals in just 17 minutes during the second half of their quarterfinal first-leg match.

The first half had ended 0-0, with Mbappé missing a clear chance against Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, and Thibaut Courtois making a good double save before halftime.

Speaking after the match, Jude Bellingham said, “You never know,” when asked if a comeback was possible. He admitted the team’s performance was far from good but added, “I can’t come out and say we’re gonna give up, that’s not in the nature of the club, the mentality they instill at this club. [It’s] 90 minutes at home to pull something out of the bag.”

The Spanish media had strong reactions the next day. Marca’s front page described the loss as a “humiliation” but also said, “nothing is impossible for Madrid.”

Another paper, Diario AS, stated that the team would be “obliged to perform another miracle” in the second leg.

Real Madrid has a history of pulling off dramatic comebacks, like during their 2022 run to the final when they came from behind to beat PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Although the team is currently second in La Liga and has made it to the Copa del Rey final, they have struggled in key games this season, including losing both El Clásico matches to Barcelona.

“It’s similar kind of themes that have happened to us all season when we’ve dropped points,” Bellingham told TNT. “It’s happened again tonight on a larger scale.

We’re going to need something special to turn it around, but special things can happen in football. And if there’s one place where it can, it’s at our house.

“They had a good game plan. They did a really good job at analysing how we would try and press them, they made a little change which helped them progress the ball forward more and that gave them more chance to have more waves of attacks and take more risks especially when the ball went wide. Credit to them, they were brilliant.

Even besides the free kicks, which are rare to score, they had a load more chances they could have punished us with.”

Madrid next play Alavés in LaLiga on Sunday, before hosting Arsenal at the Bernabéu next Wednesday.

Rodrygo is underated, but he’s the best on the team – Jude Bellingham

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham (21) hailed the performance of Rodrygo (24) in the Champions League win against Manchester City.
Kylian Mbappe hit a hat-trick as Real defeated City 3-1 to win their round of 16 playoff 6-3 on aggregate.

But Bellingham says Rodrygo also deserved recognition for his performance on the night.

He stated afterwards: “Pff… Rodrygo is very underrated. For me he is the most talented player on the team.

“The things he can do with the ball… I see what he does and think ‘how does he do it?’ If I tried that I would sprain my ankle. It’s a pleasure to play with him. I think he’s the one who sacrifices the most.

“We all know that his favourite position is the left. He does a lot for the team from the right even though it’s not his favourite position. He never complains.”

On Mbappe, Bellingham also said: “Everyone knows he’s special. His start was difficult, a lot of pressure in a new team. When the goals came… He’s on another level.

“The confidence he has, you can give him the ball in any situation, his speed… His connection with Vini. It must be terrifying for defenders to play against him.”

Jude Bellingham receives a two-match ban after red card against Osasuna

Jude Bellingham has received a two-match ban for his comments towards the referee during Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Saturday.

The English player was given a straight red card in the first half after making remarks to referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero. The referee reported that Bellingham said “f*ck you” to him, but Bellingham denied it.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has now punished Bellingham with a two-game suspension for his “disrespectful attitude” towards Munuera Montero.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti backed up his player’s claim that the red card was merely down to a misunderstanding and the Spanish side provided video evidence to support the argument.

Madrid initially asked for the card to be overturned, Cadena SER reports, but the Disciplinary Committee opted for a significantly shorter ban than they could have handed out.

“Taking into account the different factual circumstances invoked, it is appropriate to impose the sanction provided for in said precept in its minimum degree, of two games,” the ruling said.

Don’t argue, disrespect the referee – Hanci Flick advices Barca squad after Bellingham red card

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, has urged his players to show respect to referees and avoid arguing with them. His comments come after Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham was sent off for confronting the referee during their 1-1 draw against Osasuna.

The referee, Jose Luis Munuera Montero, said that Bellingham said “f* you,” which led to his immediate dismissal. However, Bellingham insisted that he actually said “f* off” and that it was directed at himself out of frustration, not the referee.

After the match, Bellingham insisted he did not insult the referee and called the situation a misunderstanding. The following day, he apologized on social media for putting his team in a difficult situation.

He wrote: “Enough said about the misunderstanding, just wanted to apologize again for leaving my teammates in such a tough position and thank the fans for their support and understanding. See you at home on Wednesday.”

Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s home game against Rayo Vallecano on Monday, Flick emphasized that he had reminded his players to stay calm and avoid conflicts with match officials.

“It’s disrespect. For me, it’s like that. But I don’t have to decide (the punishments),” he told a press conference on Sunday.

“I don’t like this behaviour and I said this today to my players because it’s very important. It is not good for the team when you do this and get the red card. It’s a weakness and we don’t like that.

“We have one person on the pitch who is allowed to discuss with the referee and that is the captain. We have to accept that.”

Third-placed Barca can return to the top of LaLiga with a win over Rayo later on Monday.

Bellingham sees red in Osasuna clash

Jude Bellingham was sent off as Real Madrid missed the chance to move four points clear at the top of La Liga in a frustrating draw against Osasuna.

The England midfielder, who scored Real’s late winner at Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday, was shown a straight red in the 39th minute for foul and abusive language towards referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero.

Bellingham’s only previous dismissal for Real came after the final whistle in a 2-2 draw at Valencia in March 2024, when he received a second yellow for complaining to the referee.

France forward Kylian Mbappe had given Real the lead at Estadio El Sadar, latching on to Federico Valverde’s inch-perfect cross to fire home his 17th league goal of the season.

But Osasuna were given a lifeline in the 58th minute after Eduardo Camavinga was adjudged to have fouled Ante Budimir in the box – and the home striker scored from the spot.

As the second half wore on, Real continued to push for a winner, but Mbappe wasted an opportunity to find Vinicius Jr in acres of space in the Osasuna box.

The Brazil forward carved out a chance to fire Real back in front with 15 minutes remaining, dribbling past two defenders in the area before his effort was headed off the line by Alejandro Catena.

Vinicius also dug out a back-post cross with 10 minutes remaining but Luka Modric could not direct his side-foot volley on target.

Atletico Madrid, who are two points behind Real, will go top if they win against Celta Vigo later on Saturday.

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona will also leapfrog Real on goal difference if they beat Rayo Vallecano on Monday night.

Check out Cristiano Ronaldo’s opinion on Barca’s Lamine Yamal and Jude Bellingham

Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his belief that Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal will emerge as “the best player of this new generation.” The five-time Ballon d’Or recipient noted that he has been highly impressed with the 17-year-old’s performances to date.

“He’s got a huge potential,” Ronaldo told Rio Ferdinand in his Youtube channel. “I see a lot of talent. But let’s see during his journey what’s going to happen.

“But I think he’ll make it. He will be the best player of this new generation.”

Yamal, who scored Barcelona’s lone goal in their 2-1 Champions League defeat to Monaco on Thursday, has broken numerous records since making his debut.

At just 16, he became the youngest goal scorer in La Liga history and the youngest player to appear in a European Championship.

His standout performances helped Spain secure the 2024 Euros title, earning him the Young Player of the Tournament award.

Girona manager Míchel Sánchez, after watching Yamal’s performance in the Catalan derby on Sunday, remarked that he believes the young star has the potential to reach the level of Lionel Messi.

However, Yamal insists he wants to be his own player even though he is honoured to be compared to Barca legend Messi, “the greatest player in the history of football.”

Ronaldo said he believes Yamal is in the right place to do great things.

“He needs luck because he is very young,” Ronaldo said. “I hope he doesn’t have any problems [injuries]. He is in a context that helps him a lot. Spain’s national team is really good.”

Al Nassr forward praised Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham for his impressive performances.

Since joining the Spanish giants in the summer of 2023, the England international has made a significant impact, netting 23 goals and providing 13 assists, playing a key role in helping Los Blancos secure both La Liga and the Champions League titles.

Bellingham’s exceptional debut season at the Bernabéu earned him the title of La Liga’s best player.

“I think he is going to be one of the best players of this new generation,” Ronaldo said of Bellingham. “It’s the same [as Yamal], great talent, huge potential.

“You go to a club where the environment is clean, that it’s good, and you grow like the others, like [Madrid players] Camavinga, Rodrygo, like Vinícius. I think he [Bellingham] is in a team that will help him become a top player.”

Jude Bellingham sidelined for a month over injury – Source

Real Madrid has confirmed that midfielder Jude Bellingham sustained a muscle injury in his right leg during Friday’s training session.

According to an ESPN source, Bellingham is likely to be sidelined until mid-September, missing action until after the international break.

Madrid will host Real Valladolid at the Bernabéu on Sunday for their first home game of the season, following a 1-1 draw against Mallorca in their opening away match last weekend.

The game will see Kylian Mbappé make his home debut, after joining Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

“After tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s medical services on our player Jude Bellingham, he has been diagnosed with an injury in the plantaris muscle in his right leg,” the club said in a statement.

“[Bellingham] got a knock,” coach Carlo Ancelotti said in a news conference, earlier on Friday. “We’re evaluating it.”

England midfielder Jude Bellingham had an outstanding season for Real Madrid last year, netting 19 goals in the league.

He also played a pivotal role in their first trophy victory of the current campaign, earning man-of-the-match honors in their UEFA Super Cup triumph over Atalanta last week.

With the addition of Kylian Mbappé to a squad that already captured both LaLiga and the Champions League, expectations are soaring for Madrid in the 2024-25 season.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side faced criticism after a disappointing draw against Mallorca, causing them to drop crucial points early in the campaign.

“It was quite clear in terms of the evaluation,” Ancelotti said. “We lacked balance at times and we have to work on that. It isn’t too complicated. When the problem is clear, there’s a clear solution.”

Ancelotti denied that there was an issue with fitting forward Rodrygo into the team, alongside Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and Bellingham.

“[Rodrygo] told me he’s very happy here,” Ancelotti said. “He’s working hard, he’s been one of the best in these games, so there’s no problem with him.”

Jude Bellingham has secured another major brand endorsement, joining Louis Vuitton as the latest face of the fashion house, thanks to music mogul Pharrell Williams.

Bellingham joins the fashion company as a “Friend of the House who captures this uniquely cultivated spirit of individuals who are champions in their field and beyond”.

On their Instagram page, Louis Vuitton wrote: “I’m excited to welcome Jude to the House, his charismatic personality and what he has already achieved in his inspiring journey will add so much to our LVers community.”

While Bellingham is already associated with adidas, Nike is reportedly interested in signing him, aiming to elevate his status to that of basketball icon Michael Jordan.

As Real Madrid gears up to face Mallorca in La Liga this weekend, Bellingham will focus on his on-field performance.

His recent foray into fashion may stir mixed feelings among his teammates, particularly after some England players expressed dissatisfaction with the ‘Hey Jude’ adidas commercial from Euro 2024.

“Nothing changes for him” – Ancelotti on effect of Jude’s position amid Mbappe’s presence

Jude Bellingham’s role at Real Madrid will not change following Kylian Mbappe’s arrival, says manager Carlo Ancelotti.

England midfielder Bellingham, 21, played in an advanced role for the Spanish side in his debut season, scoring 23 goals in 42 games as they won La Liga and the Champions League.

France striker Mbappe, 25, joined Real this summer on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain.

Ancelotti denied Bellingham would play in a deeper role to accommodate Mbappe, saying: “Nothing changes for him. Nothing changes.

“The first season, he surprised a lot, because he showed fantastic quality, a really mature guy. The next season will not be different.

“He is going to be one of the best players that we have, supporting a lot the team with his quality.”

The Italian also backed Bellingham after criticism of his performances at Euro 2024, where England reached the final.

“This is an opinion but Bellingham played really well at the Euros,” he added.

    https://youtu.be/zw43pfwgBec

“England played really well, they reached the final and were close to winning it. I don’t know how the players are tired for the game.

“The most important players are used to playing every three days, they manage that really well and arrive at the end of the season without any problems.”

Ancelotti has also called for Chelsea’s owners to show more patience with their managers, noting the dismissals of Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Mauricio Pochettino since the new ownership took over.

The former Chelsea manager will go head-to-head with his compatriot Enzo Maresca as both clubs conclude their US tours at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Tuesday night.

He added: “They invested a lot. They have a good squad, good players, young. They have a young manager. They need to be a little bit patient, the owners, to take experience, to grow. But the signings that they have [made] are really good.”

Before explaining Madrid don’t need to re-sign exiled Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who spent last season on loan at Santiago Bernabeu, Ancelotti said: “We love him. We love him but in that position, we are covered.”

Carlo Ancelotti ‘upset’ over Jude Bellingham ignoring his calls but picking Vinicius’ call

Jude Bellingham may be in trouble with Carlo Ancelotti after he blanked the Real Madrid manager’s phone call.
Speaking to reporters, Ancelotti revealed he “got angry with Bellingham” over the weekend.

The Madrid boss said: “I called him and he didn’t pick up and I told Vinicius to call him and he picked up.”

Ancelotti might have initially been “angry” about Bellingham’s behavior, but the Madrid talisman will be relieved that his boss now seems to laugh about the incident.

Other managers might have misinterpreted Bellingham’s cold shoulder, but Don Carlo is known for his cool demeanor.

Bellingham, still on holiday after his Euro 2024 performances, is expected to return for the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta on August 14.

Since joining the club last summer, Bellingham and Ancelotti have generally had a good relationship. However, it hasn’t been entirely smooth.

The England international was controversially benched early last season, and his strong personality sometimes leads to clashes with other players.

It’s very likely that any tension between Bellingham and Ancelotti will be resolved before Madrid’s next pre-season match against Chelsea at the Bank of America Stadium in North Carolina.

Coming off a 2-1 defeat to their rivals Barcelona, Los Blancos will be eager to return to winning form.

‘Agent’ Bellingham allegedly attempting to convince Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid

Jude Bellingham might be transitioning into an agent role, as the Real Madrid star was recently seen dining with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is linked with a move to the Blancos, in Los Angeles.

Both players are enjoying a well-deserved break following intense domestic and international seasons. Bellingham played a key role in Real Madrid’s La Liga and Champions League victories in 2023-24, while Alexander-Arnold contributed to another Carabao Cup win for Jurgen Klopp in his final season at Liverpool.

The duo also featured in England’s journey to the Euro 2024 final, where they experienced another setback as Spain clinched the trophy. Their shared experiences have forged a strong connection, and they are now vacationing together in the U.S.

Earlier, it was reported that Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson had tried to persuade Bellingham to join Liverpool when he was leaving Borussia Dortmund. Instead, the 20-year-old midfielder opted for Spain, and now the situation has shifted.

Alexander-Arnold is in the final year of his contract with Liverpool, and rumors of a move to Santiago Bernabeu have surfaced. The Mirror has obtained footage of the Liverpool right-back dining with Bellingham in LA, which could indicate discussions about future moves.

Liverpool is expected to negotiate terms with Alexander-Arnold soon as they embark on a new era under Dutch coach Arne Slot. If he does not sign a new deal, he will be free to discuss pre-contract agreements with clubs outside England starting in January, potentially moving toward free agency.

Spanish giants will sport an orange shirt for their away fixtures next season, revealing a striking, vibrant design as they aim to retain both their La Liga and Champions League titles.

The jersey features an astral, abstract pattern, symbolizing stars in the night sky.

In a statement released by the club, Madrid unveiled the inspiration behind their unique look, explaining that the design is drawn from “the stars that appear in the sky outside the Santiago Bernabeu.”

The club continued: “Its design is born from the idea that it doesn’t matter where the team competes because Real Madrid fans are always connected by the stars in the sky.”

Madrid’s new away kit brings back memories of their third kit from the 2013/14 season—the same season they clinched their dramatic tenth Champions League title.

In the upcoming season, stars like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, and new signing Kylian Mbappe will don this shirt.

The Spanish champions introduced their new home kit in June, showcasing a minimalist, classic design that underscores the team’s enduring legacy.

With La Liga fixtures now announced, Madrid will start their season against Mallorca on August 18.

However, their first match will be against Serie A side Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup on August 14.

What a yellow card means at Euro 2024, check out the status of your favourite player

As Euro 2024 progresses, the presence of yellow cards threatens key players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jude Bellingham, and Kylian Mbappe with potential suspensions.

Maintaining discipline is pivotal in football tournaments, ensuring top athletes remain available throughout. Yet, amidst the physical demands and trials of new rules limiting referee interactions to captains, yellow and occasional red cards are inevitable.

Here’s an overview of Euro 2024’s yellow card suspension regulations and the players potentially facing exclusion from the semi-finals.

At Euro 2024, the yellow card rules and suspensions are straightforward: A player receiving two yellow cards faces a one-match suspension.

However, it’s crucial to understand that yellow cards accumulated during the group stage, round of 16, and quarter-finals are reset before the semi-finals.

This means that players carrying yellow cards into the quarter-finals can relax once they advance, as these cautions won’t carry over. The only scenario where a player would miss the final is if they receive a red card in the semi-final.

Several other key players, including Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher, Kobbie Mainoo, and Kieran Trippier, are also walking a disciplinary tightrope with yellow card cautions. Another booking in the quarter-final would see them suspended for the potential semi-final match.

Ivan Toney reveals his fury at being tagged a substitute after role in Bellingham’s bicycle kick

England striker Ivan Toney has emphasized his crucial role in Jude Bellingham’s last-minute equalizer against Slovakia at Euro 2024.

Bellingham’s acrobatic effort saved England from elimination, pushing the round of 16 match into extra time, where Harry Kane scored the winning goal to secure a quarter-final spot for the Three Lions.

While the headlines focused on the Real Madrid and Bayern Munich stars, Toney insists his contribution as a late substitute just before the equalizer was vital.

“I feel we do a lot at club football,” Toney said. “If you can’t get the ball you [do something else]. I pulled the defender away. Take nothing away from Jude… a run is not a wasted run even if you don’t get the ball.”

Toney’s stoppage time introduction was his first appearance at Euro 2024, having been left on the bench for their three group stage matches.

However, the Brentford star is not happy with being labelled a substitute, preferring to call himself a finisher.

“Yes, I was annoyed but there was still 30 minutes of football to play [including extra-time] and you have got to come out of that mood and focus,” he told reporters.

“I feel like people call them substitutes, others finishers. I think you have to be ready and there’s more than 11 players needed to win a tournament.”

Toney hopes that England manager Gareth Southgate will once again call on him as a substitute in the quarter-final match against Switzerland on Saturday, as the team aims to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham has lauded Black Stars head coach Otto Addo for his influence on young players during their time together at Borussia Dortmund.

Bellingham, who joined Dortmund at 17, emphasized Dortmund’s exceptional approach to integrating young talent, describing them as unmatched in this aspect.

The English star highlighted Dortmund’s ability to facilitate a seamless transition for young players, ensuring they receive appropriate playing time crucial for their development.

“The way Dortmund integrates young players into the first-team squad is next level. There isn’t a club in Europe that does it quite like them.

The way they are pushed and can also be reeled back in. They review your performances,” Bellingham was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

He also commended Otto Addo, who formerly served as the transition coach at Dortmund, emphasizing that the Ghanaian offered invaluable support to each player.

“There is a person there for every player, especially Otto [Addo], the former Dortmund and Ghana striker, who has worked with the young players. He is great,” he added.

Jude Bellingham has expressed admiration for Ghanaian coach Otto Addo, previously referring to him as a legend in an Instagram post.

Euro 2024: Bellingham may escape ban for a fine after indecent behaviour towards Slovakia bench

Jude Bellingham is under investigation by UEFA for allegedly “breaching the basic rules of decent conduct” after making a crotch-grabbing gesture towards the Slovakia bench during England’s Euro 2024 round-of-16 victory in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on Sunday.

A source revealed that, despite the gesture following his stoppage-time equalizer, a ban from UEFA is unlikely. Instead, Bellingham, 21, could face a fine if found guilty.

Bellingham explained on social media that the gesture was an “inside joke to friends,” but UEFA has tasked its disciplinary body with investigating the incident.

In similar past cases, Cristiano Ronaldo and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone were fined €20,000 for comparable gestures in the 2019 Champions League, but neither received a ban.

England is set to face Switzerland in the quarterfinals in Düsseldorf on Saturday.

In a statement issued on Monday, UEFA said: “A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of the basic rules of decent conduct by the English Football Association player, Jude Bellingham, having allegedly occurred in the scope of this match.

“Information on this matter will be made available in due course.”

UEFA has charged the English FA with supporter-related issues following the Slovakia game.

The investigation focuses on “lack of order or discipline among supporters” and incidents involving the “lighting of fireworks.”

  • Jude Bellingham sustains England’s Euro dreams after late victory against Slovakia

Jude Bellingham sustains England’s Euro dreams after late victory against Slovakia

Jude Bellingham delivered a moment of sheer brilliance to rescue England from the brink of elimination and secure a dramatic victory over Slovakia in Euro 2024, propelling them into the quarter-finals.

Facing a daunting deficit late in the game, England looked set to suffer a humiliating exit as Slovakia clung to a 1-0 lead secured by Ivan Schranz’s clinical finish in the 25th minute. The Slovakian defense had frustrated England throughout, limiting them to few clear chances.

However, it was Bellingham, celebrating his 21st birthday, who emerged as the hero for the Three Lions. In a display of audacious skill, he executed an exquisite overhead kick from Marc Guehi’s flicked header, stunning Slovakia and leveling the score in dramatic fashion.

Bellingham’s goal not only revived England‘s hopes but also injected newfound energy and belief into Gareth Southgate’s side. Just minutes into extra time, Harry Kane capitalized on England’s momentum with a close-range header, completing the turnaround and sealing a 2-1 victory.

The win sets up a tantalizing quarter-final clash with Switzerland, as England aim to build on their newfound resilience and momentum in the tournament.

Prior to Bellingham’s heroics, England had struggled to break down Slovakia’s resolute defense, with their performance drawing criticism for its lack of creativity and clinical edge. Despite efforts from Kane and Declan Rice hitting the woodwork, Slovakia appeared poised to cause a major upset.

Bellingham’s timely intervention not only saved England from potential humiliation but also sparked celebrations among fans who had endured a tense and disappointing match until that point.

Manager Gareth Southgate, who has faced scrutiny over team selection and tactics throughout Euro 2024, will now face further challenges as he prepares to navigate the quarter-finals without Marc Guehi. The defender, a standout performer despite the team’s struggles, will be suspended following his second yellow card in the match against Slovakia.

Guehi’s absence will undoubtedly be felt, especially given his composed presence alongside John Stones in defense. His performance, marred only by the lapse that led to Slovakia’s goal, underscored his importance to England’s backline.

As England reflect on their narrow escape and prepare to face a formidable Swiss side, questions linger about their ability to sustain their newfound momentum and improve upon their inconsistent performances thus far in the tournament.

The stage is now set for England to prove their mettle against Switzerland, with hopes resting on Bellingham’s heroics to serve as a turning point in their Euro 2024 campaign.

  • I’m getting better in my pairing with Jude Bellingham; it’d get better – Phil Foden

I’m getting better in my pairing with Jude Bellingham; it’d get better – Phil Foden

After a shaky start to England’s European Championship campaign that had critics questioning his starting spot, Phil Foden (24) insists his partnership with Jude Bellingham (20) will only flourish.

Foden was a headliner this past Premier League season, pouring in 27 goals for Manchester City across all competitions to win Premier League Footballer of the Year honours.

But lining up on the left of a front three in England’s 1-0 win over Serbia, with Jude Bellingham occupying the central No. 10 position in which Foden has thrived with City, he drifted out of the game.

“Jude’s obviously an exceptional talent,” Foden said in a Football Association video. “He’s a leader now; I think he’s turning into a leader. I think our link-up play is good at times and I think it’s improving as well, and can keep getting better. So he’s an exciting talent and I enjoy playing with him.”

While some chalked up Sunday’s performance as just a bad game for Foden, it drew criticism from some pundits.

“I don’t think Phil Foden played well, he didn’t get into it,” former England striker Ian Wright said on the BBC match broadcast. “People talk about Foden and his positions. I can understand that because of how good he is as a footballer, but he didn’t get into the game.

“We can’t always blame the system. He needs to make it happen for himself and demand the ball,” Wright said.

Former Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas said players with Foden’s talent have the quality to hold the ball anywhere on the pitch.

“It’s about: do you want it enough to make a difference and hold the ball for your team? Do you want to make things happen? Do you enjoy getting the ball under pressure?” he said. “I think players like Foden, they need to step up.”

Foden, whom City manager Pep Guardiola has described as the “most talented player” he has ever seen, struggled during his European Championship debut three years ago as well and was taken out of the team after England’s opening two games.

His performance at the 2022 World Cup was notably different. He made his first appearance as a 71st-minute substitute against Iran.

He then scored in England’s 3-0 victory over Wales and provided assists for goals by Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka in their 3-0 win over Senegal in the round of 16.

“I think the first game of a major tournament is always the most difficult,” Foden said of the Serbian win that England nearly blew with a nervy second half. “Obviously, we had to defend at times and dig deep.

“But I think that shows a different side to us and if we’re going to win something, I think that we have to do that.”

England, who sit atop Group C, face Denmark on Thursday in Frankfurt and close out the group stage against Slovenia on June 25th.

  • Meet England’s self-made football hero, Jude Bellingham

Meet England’s self-made football hero, Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham’s impressive ascent continued as he secured England’s winning goal in their Euro 2024 opener against Serbia, with manager Gareth Southgate praising him as a player who “writes his own scripts.”

The 20-year-old Stourbridge native, currently playing for Real Madrid, is the first European player to participate in three major international tournaments before turning 21.

Bellingham has also scored in two of these tournaments, having netted a goal against Iran in the 2022 World Cup.

His 13th-minute header in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday proved to be the decisive goal of the match.

“I am willing to do whatever it takes and am ready to do everything to help the country win this football tournament,” said Bellingham afterwards.

BBC pundit Micah Richards, a former England international, said: “He’s taken the game by the scruff of the neck and this is what you need.

“His composure is remarkable. He’s the leader in this team at such a young age and he knows it. He’s got a great attitude, he’s got everything. I’m running out of superlatives for him. He manages the game really well.

“If he can keep that form throughout the tournament then he is the man we can rely on.”

Following a season where he secured both the Spanish title and the Champions League with his club, Bellingham is now the second favorite to win this year’s Ballon d’Or, the prestigious award given to the world’s best player.

If England triumphs at Euro 2024, he stands a strong chance of claiming that coveted honor.

“He’s come out today with the attitude knowing it’s his game,” said former England centre-back Rio Ferdinand on BBC One.

“He’s said ‘guys, this is my game and I am him’. That’s the vibe he’s given me with how he’s gesturing. You have to enjoy your great players.”

Bellingham left the pitch to a standing ovation from the travelling England fans late on.

“Jude Bellingham is made up of amazing people,” Bellingham said. “It’s not just me. It’s because I have such a great support network – my family, my friends, my team-mates. Playing football is the easiest part.

“I have got used to getting into the box, getting wide and trying to do that. I got into that habit at Madrid and I wanted to carry my form into the Euros.

“It’s a great start for me personally to get my confidence up, and to help the lads get the win is the most important thing.”

‘It’s all right’ being Jude Bellingham right now.

Video: Jude Bellingham’s mother poses for a picture with her long time ‘idol’ Mourinho

Jude Bellingham delightedly informed Jose Mourinho that his mother has been a long-time admirer and humorously requested a photo opportunity with her.

Following his triumphant debut Champions League victory with Los Blancos, Bellingham ensured his family, including his parents and younger brother Jobe, were part of the celebratory moment on the pitch.

Amidst the jubilation, Bellingham spotted Mourinho, who was present as a pundit for TNT Sports, and seized the opportunity for a playful interaction.

Mourinho, known for his affable nature, happily obliged, posing for a photo with Bellingham’s mother as part of the joyful celebration.

Bellingham quipped, “Sorry about that; my mom’s fancied you (Mourinho) for years!”

Never one to miss an opportunity for a witty remark, Mourinho joked about Bellingham potentially joining him at Fenerbahce, his new club.

“Now you come to Fenerbahce!” Mourinho exclaimed.

He went on to add: “If next season you play Fenerbahce, calm down….”Bellingham’s inaugural season at Real Madrid has surpassed all expectations, marking a remarkable journey for the 20-year-old midfielder.

His pivotal contributions were key to the team’s success, securing victories in the La Liga, Champions League, and Spanish Super Cup.

With an exceptional record of 23 goals scored in 42 matches across different competitions, his impact on the field speaks volumes.

Looking ahead, he prepares to represent the Three Lions in the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament held in Germany.

  • Mbappe’s arrival may cause a change in Jude Bellingham’s position at Real Madrid

Mbappe’s arrival may cause a change in Jude Bellingham’s position at Real Madrid

Jude Bellingham’s role at Real Madrid might be adjusted by Carlo Ancelotti to accommodate Kylian Mbappe in the attack, despite Bellingham’s impressive goal-scoring record.

The 20-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a stellar debut season, recording 23 goals and 12 assists in 40 appearances, playing a crucial role in Real Madrid’s La Liga triumph and their journey to the Champions League final.

However, with Mbappe’s imminent move from Paris Saint-Germain, Bellingham may need to adapt to a new position to make room for the French star, heralding a new era of Galacticos at the club.

According to Marca, Ancelotti is considering deploying Bellingham in a deeper midfield role.

Throughout the current season, the Italian manager has used Bellingham in various positions, often placing him on the left side or as a false nine, allowing him the freedom to roam in the final third.

This strategy has unlocked the English international’s goal-scoring abilities.

Ancelotti believes Bellingham can handle additional defensive responsibilities while maintaining his versatility as a total footballer.

The manager has a track record of convincing players to embrace new roles, such as Camavinga playing as a left-back and Tchouameni being deployed as a centre-back.

He is clear that Bellingham’s primary objective isn’t just to score goals. While his prolific form has helped Madrid cope superbly following Karim Benzema’s departure, Ancelotti envisions Bellingham transitioning to a more natural midfield role next season to meet the squad’s evolving needs.

Bellingham’s innate talent and versatility make him a valuable asset for Real Madrid. His quality in front of goal has been crucial in steering the team to success this season.

However, with Mbappe’s arrival, Ancelotti appears to want Bellingham to take on the role of a midfield general, dictating the tempo of the match. It remains to be seen how the 20-year-old will adapt to his new role in the upcoming campaign.

Real Madrid bags the La Liga title again!

Real Madrid clinched the La Liga championship on Saturday, seizing the title as Barcelona stumbled to a 4-2 defeat against Girona following Carlo Ancelotti’s team’s triumph over Cadiz.

Madrid secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Cadiz, with Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham, and Joselu all finding the back of the net.

This win positioned them to be crowned league champions if Barcelona failed to secure a win in their match against Girona.

Xavi’s squad initially appeared poised to thwart their rivals’ title celebrations as they twice took the lead in the game.

However, Girona rallied back on both occasions and ultimately secured a two-goal advantage to secure the victory.

With Real Madrid holding a commanding 13-point lead at the summit of La Liga and only four games remaining, neither Girona nor Barcelona have any chance of surpassing them.

The capital club has suffered just one defeat in La Liga this season, with summer acquisition Jude Bellingham notably shining throughout the campaign, tallying 18 goals and four assists.

His late winner in the recent Clasico against Barcelona provided a significant boost for Madrid.

By dethroning Barcelona and claiming the Spanish League crown, Madrid has now amassed an impressive 36 titles in their history.

They can elevate this season’s achievements even further by clinching a victory in the Champions League.

Despite their triumph, Madrid remains focused and grounded, understanding that there is still much work ahead.

They face Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, with the tie evenly poised at 2-2 from the first leg.

Therefore, their title celebrations will be tempered as they remain fully committed to their upcoming challenges.

Bellingham leaves Ghanaian girlfriend for Dutch model after Real Madrid move – Reports

Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham has reportedly ended his relationship with Turkish-Ghanaian social media influencer Chitty Asantewaa and has found new love with Dutch model Laura Celia Valk according to The Sun.

Bellingham had been dating Asantewaa since 2022, but their relationship has come to an end, with Bellingham now romantically involved with Valk.

The Sun’s report suggests that Valk and Bellingham’s newfound romance was initially kept private until Valk accidentally revealed it to her make-up artist during a photoshoot.

“Laura has been telling everyone about the relationship,” a source told the Sun as quoted by Dailymail.com.

“She’s been staying at his place in Madrid over the past few weekends and is completely smitten.”

Valk was recently seen among the girlfriends of Madrid players during their visit to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium to watch Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Athletic Club on March 31, 2024.

The following day, Laura shared pictures of herself on a date at The Madrid EDITION hotel in Spain with an unidentified man.

Although Valk and her new partner appear to be enjoying their budding relationship, there is no information available regarding the reason for Jude Bellingham’s breakup with Chitty Asantewaa.

Tom Brady shares details of his talk with Bellingham after his switch to Real Madrid

Tom Brady praises Jude Bellingham for his latest individual accolade and shares that they had a conversation when Bellingham joined Real Madrid.

Bellingham, aged 20, clinched the Breakthrough of the Year award at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid. This recognition follows his earlier achievements of winning the 2023 Golden Boy and Ballon d’Or Kopa trophies this season.

“When he actually transferred from Dortmund to Real Madrid, we struck up a conversation. I was really impressed by his maturity and how talented he is, although of course everyone can see that,” Brady told ESPN Deportes.

“He’s got a great future because of what’s in his brain and what he’s really focused on.”

Brady, a minority investor in Birmingham City, joined others in praising Bellingham at the award ceremony. Tennis star Novak Djokovic, who secured his record-equalling fifth Laureus Sportsman Award, commended Bellingham, noting that he possesses all the qualities of a “great champion.”

“What I was impressed with is that he was always trying to make these runs, and he was not getting the right balls, and he was getting a little bit frustrated, but then he was waiting for the right opportunity,” Djokovic told a news conference.

“He was serious, professional, dedicated, patient and believed that the chance would come. It came at the right moment and he decided the game. He’s only 20, so that’s a feature or characteristic of a great champion.”

Following his award win on Monday, Bellingham expressed his ambition to secure a trio of team accolades this season, aiming for a successful culmination to his debut campaign with Madrid.

With Madrid leading La Liga by 11 points and progressing to the Champions League semifinals, Bellingham’s role becomes pivotal in Gareth Southgate’s pursuit of the European Championship title with England.

Having scored in Sunday’s victory over Barcelona in the Clásico, Bellingham’s contributions are instrumental as Madrid inches closer to clinching the La Liga title.

Additionally, they are set to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals after prevailing over Manchester City in the quarterfinals.

“It’s been an amazing 24 hours, a great week really for myself and the club,” Bellingham said, speaking at the Laureus ceremony held at Madrid City Hall. “To be here with so many amazing athletes and so many inspirational people is a real pleasure.

“We’ve still got a few more games to wrap up La Liga; we’ve got two very difficult games against Munich and then against the Euros. Hopefully we can take [England’s] form from the last few tournaments into that and push on and do one better.”

At just 17 years old, Bellingham contributed to the England squad during Euro 2020, making three substitute appearances en route to the final, where Italy clinched victory over England on penalties at Wembley.

In his debut season with Real Madrid, Bellingham has netted 21 goals, with 17 of them achieved in La Liga. His most recent goal, a 91st-minute winner against Barca at the Bernabéu, effectively sealed the title race with six games remaining.

“[Scoring in Clásico] is a really special feeling; you kind of lose all control of your body and the normal senses that go through your head,” Bellingham said. “It’s something I really enjoy doing.”

Bellingham said he is aware of his responsibility as an inspiration to young people.

“It’s important that I try to be a good role model,” he said. “I’m not perfect, but I want to have a good and lasting impact.”

Laureus honours Spain’s WWC champions, Jude Bellingham

Spain’s historic victory in the Women’s World Cup last year received further recognition at the Laureus World Sports Awards held on Monday.

The Spanish national team was honoured as the world team of the year for 2023, while midfielder Aitana Bonmatí was named the best sportswoman.

Novak Djokovic was awarded the sportsman of the year title at the ceremony in Madrid, with American gymnast Simone Biles receiving the comeback of the year award.

Real Madrid forward Jude Bellingham was recognised with the breakthrough prize, and Rafael Nadal was honoured with the sport for good award for his foundation’s work.

Despite the triumph on the field, the Spanish women’s World Cup victory was marred by controversy due to an incident involving forward Jenni Hermoso and then-federation president Luis Rubiales.

Laureus acknowledged Spain as the first all-female team to win the team award.

Before her success in the World Cup, Bonmatí played a crucial role in Barcelona’s second Women’s Champions League victory.

She became the first female soccer player to win the Laureus Award, adding to her Ballon d’Or and FIFA Best Player accolades.

“I want to thank all my teammates and the staff of my club and national team who have helped me a lot, and because of them, I am here today,” Bonmati said.

Djokovic secured his fifth Laureus Sportsman Award, matching Roger Federer’s record, following his remarkable performances at the Australian Open, French Open, and U.S. Open, where he clinched his 24th Grand Slam singles title.

NFL legend Tom Brady had the honour of presenting Djokovic with the prestigious award.

Biles made an extraordinary comeback to competition, winning four gold medals at the world championships, including her unprecedented sixth all-around title.

Nadal’s foundation received recognition for its significant impact, particularly in assisting over 1,000 vulnerable young people in Spain and India, as acknowledged by Laureus.

Arisa Trew, a teenage skateboarder, was honoured with the Action Sportsperson Award for her groundbreaking achievement as the first female to successfully land a 720 in competition.

Diede de Groot, a Dutch wheelchair tennis player, was named the sportsperson of the year with a disability for her exceptional performance, securing her third consecutive calendar Grand Slam title.

Jude Bellingham’s X-rated reply to James Maddison’s post after late Belgium equaliser

Jude Bellingham sent an enthusiastic message to his England teammate James Maddison after their collaboration led to a late equaliser against Belgium.

Maddison had limited playing time under England manager Gareth Southgate during the international break.

He did not feature against Brazil and only played the final 15 minutes against Belgium.

Despite his brief appearance, Maddison played a crucial role in the game by setting up Bellingham for the 95th-minute equalizer at Wembley Stadium. After the match, Maddison shared a photo of their celebration on Instagram with the caption: “Sheriff [A] Jude Bellingham.”

Great character at the death to salvage something at Wembley! Need to take that attitude into the summer.”
Bellingham was quick to reply with the message: “What a f***ing player.”

Maddison looks set to be part of England’s squad for Euro 2024 and he will be hoping his latest cameo can help convince Gareth Southgate he deserves a place in his starting XI at the tournament in Germany.

Yet the Tottenham star faces serious competition for a place in the team, with Bellingham and Declan Rice having already nailed down spots in midfield.

England are reportedly due to play friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland in June before kicking off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia.

  • Its a bit ridiculous; refs treat me like this because I’m new – Jude Bellingham on two-game ban

Its a bit ridiculous; refs treat me like this because I’m new – Jude Bellingham on two-game ban

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham expressed his frustration with the two-game suspension he received in LaLiga, labelling it “a bit ridiculous.”

He suggested that his status as a newcomer to the league might have played a role in the severity of the punishment, stating, “Because I’m new, they want to make an example of me.”

The suspension was imposed by the Spanish football federation’s disciplinary committee following Bellingham’s red card during Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Valencia.

Bellingham was sent off for protesting the referee’s decision to blow the whistle just moments before he scored a late winning goal.

Despite providing an assist for Vinícius Júnior in Madrid’s 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig in the Champions League round of 16, Bellingham will be sidelined until March 31 unless the club’s appeal is successful.

“It’s difficult to talk about because there’s an appeal going on,” Bellingham told Movistar after the match. “All I can say is what happened with the referee’s decision to blow the whistle. He’s human, but so am I.

“I didn’t say anything offensive. I feel like at times, because I’m new, they want to make an example of me, which I’m cool with. I have to take responsibility for my actions.

“I think two games is a bit ridiculous but if I have to miss those two games, I’ll support the team from the stands.”

Bellingham faces a two-game suspension, causing him to sit out Madrid’s upcoming La Liga matches against Celta Vigo on Sunday and Osasuna on March 16.

During Madrid’s recent match at Mestalla, Bellingham scored a goal in the 99th minute, seemingly securing a win with the game tied at 2-2.

However, referee Jesus Gil Manzano had already blown the final whistle as Brahim Diaz prepared to cross.

According to Gil Manzano’s report, Bellingham was dismissed for displaying an “aggressive attitude” by repeatedly shouting “it’s a f—ing goal” in English.

Despite Madrid’s efforts, the RFEF’s disciplinary committee found insufficient evidence to challenge the referee’s assessment.

Bellingham’s impressive performance this season includes scoring 16 goals in 22 league appearances, contributing to Madrid’s position at the top of the table.

Additionally, his recent assist against Leipzig adds to his tally of four goals and four assists in six Champions League games for Madrid.

  • La Liga gives Jude Bellingham a two-game ban after Valencia-Real clash

La Liga gives Jude Bellingham a two-game ban after Valencia-Real clash

Real Madrid’s standout player, Jude Bellingham, faces a two-match suspension from La Liga following his recent red card against Valencia.

This setback means he’ll be sidelined once again for the Spanish giants, having been penalised for his dismissal during a contentious 2-2 draw against Valencia.

Bellingham’s expulsion came in stoppage time after disputing with referee Gil Manzano, following his disallowed goal—a header that he believed to be the match-winner—only for the final whistle to be blown.

Despite Bellingham’s absence being a setback for Madrid, they maintain an impressive eight-point lead at the summit of La Liga and remain strong contenders for the Champions League quarter-finals, having secured a 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the first leg.

The English international has been a prolific force for Madrid this season, contributing 20 goals and eight assists across all competitions since his high-profile £87 million ($107.4 million) transfer from Borussia Dortmund last summer, with the potential fee rising to £108 million ($133 million).

Although Bellingham will miss Madrid’s upcoming league fixtures against Celta Vigo and Osasuna on March 10 and March 16, respectively, he will be eligible to feature in their crucial Champions League last-16 clash against RB Leipzig at home on Wednesday night.

Jude Bellingham is back in his best form; 100% – Ancelloti on the ‘young star’s’ return

    Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti
has announced that Jude Bellingham will make his comeback from injury in the upcoming match against Valencia this weekend.

Bellingham had been sidelined for three weeks after twisting his ankle during the match against Girona at the beginning of February, causing him to miss the subsequent three games. During this period, Real Madrid only managed to score three goals.

Despite Bellingham’s absence, Real Madrid’s performance hasn’t suffered significantly, with their only dropped points occurring in a 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano.

Bellingham returned to training on Friday, and Ancelotti confirmed that he is fully fit and ready to play.

“He is one hundred percent; everything he has done and needed to do on an individual level is fine, he is comfortable with his ankle; he is at his best; he is going to play.”

Ancelotti further confirmed that Joselu Mato would be making his return from injury, having missed several games due to ankle swelling. Despite initial expectations of a longer recovery period, the veteran forward has managed to recuperate ahead of schedule.

This development brings Real Madrid closer to full strength ahead of their upcoming matches against Valencia and RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Currently, only David Alaba, Eder Militao, and Thibaut Courtois remain sidelined as they continue their recovery from anterior cruciate ligament injuries. Ancelotti also mentioned the possibility of Courtois and Militao returning to action next month.

  • La Liga president has “nothing to say” about Greenwood’s ‘rape case’

La Liga president has “nothing to say” about Greenwood’s ‘rape case’

Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, has expressed his lack of concern regarding Mason Greenwood’s past and voiced his desire to see the on-loan Getafe forward extend his career in Spain.

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan from Manchester United last September, following the announcement by the Crown Prosecution Service that criminal proceedings against him over an alleged attempted rape had been dropped seven months prior.

Prior to this, Greenwood had been suspended by United, and his trial was scheduled for November.

Despite these circumstances, Greenwood has been well received at his temporary club, having scored five goals in Spain’s top flight. Tebas is eager to see him continue his career in La Liga for the foreseeable future.

“I’m a lawyer,” he said, speaking at the Financial Times business of football summit. “For someone who has come out of a legal case innocent, there’s nothing to say.

I think it’s good because he’s another great player. Maybe the circumstances have made it easier for him to come, but he’s a great player and I have no other comments to make.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76lEHq79I3s

“He’s doing really well at Getafe as a player and I hope he continues to be successful and continues to stay in Spanish football, because that’s always good for us. When someone isn’t condemned, what should we have done? This is what courts exist for. It is not up to me to know his case in detail. He is just another player.”

Asked about an investigation being conducted into Jude Bellingham after the Real Madrid player was alleged to have called Greenwood a “rapist” during a match on February 1, Tebas said, “La Liga investigated Bellingham and let’s see what happens. It is not the first time we have done a lip-reading investigation and maybe he didn’t say what we think.”

Tebas’s responses revealed a misunderstanding regarding Greenwood’s legal status.

Greenwood was cleared of the charges after the CPS dropped them, citing the withdrawal of key witnesses and the emergence of new evidence, which led to the conclusion that there was no longer a realistic chance of conviction by a jury.

Greenwood wants no ban for Jude Bellingham over alleged slur -Reports

Mason Greenwood was reportedly “upset” by an alleged slur directed at him by Jude Bellingham but does not wish for the Real Madrid star to face a ban, according to the Sun.

The incident in question occurred during a Liga match between Real and Getafe on February 1, where Bellingham was captured on camera apparently saying something to Greenwood after a robust challenge.

Spanish authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, raising the prospect of a potential suspension.

Despite being affected by the incident, Greenwood hopes for the situation to be resolved without any punitive action.

Greenwood is reportedly eager to avoid seeing such action taken, with The Sun claiming to have been told by a source: “Mason has told them he doesn’t want Jude to be punished and has asked them to drop it. He doesn’t want bad publicity and wants to get on with playing football.

“He was very upset at the time, as he didn’t expect it from someone like Jude. But he knows he’s always likely to be a target for that kind of stuff so he’s accepted that he’ll need thick skin.”

After being out of action for over 12 months, Mason Greenwood saw allegations of attempted rape, assault, and controlling behaviour against him drop in February 2023.

Currently on a season-long loan spell in Spain, he has made a significant impact for Getafe, contributing seven goals and five assists.

This impressive performance has sparked discussions of interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Additionally, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United’s new minority shareholder, has hinted at the possibility of a return for the 22-year-old winger to Old Trafford.

Jude Bellingham-Greenwood feud appears to evoke ‘unwritten law’ in LaLiga

Jude Bellingham and Mason Greenwood have stirred up an unexpected controversy in La Liga, as Getafe challenges Real Madrid over an incident deemed to breach an unwritten code.

During a Spanish top-flight match on February 1, Real Madrid’s Bellingham and Greenwood, both England internationals, engaged in a fierce duel.

After a particularly intense challenge, Bellingham was captured on camera mouthing something towards his fellow countryman.

Getafe promptly reported the incident to La Liga, urging it to be documented in the match referee’s report.

Lip-readers have since been enlisted to decipher Bellingham’s words amid speculation about whether he uttered “rapist” or “rubbish,” potentially leading to a four-match suspension for the 20-year-old.

According to Marca, Bellingham will not learn his fate until March, sparking curiosity and debate in Spain.

There exists an unwritten agreement in La Liga where clubs tacitly agree not to pursue actions on incidents unnoticed by match officials; what happens on the field stays on the field.

Greenwood, currently on loan at Getafe from Manchester United, is reportedly eager to put the matter behind them.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is reportedly taken aback by Getafe’s deviation from this tradition, opening up a disciplinary process rarely explored.

The Spanish FA will now determine if further action is warranted, as clubs across La Liga closely monitor the situation.

I love you and I miss you – Real Madrid’s Díaz to injured Bellingham

Brahim Díaz praised his “world-class” teammate Jude Bellingham after scoring in Real Madrid’s 1-0 Champions League round-of-16 first leg win at RB Leipzig on Tuesday and imitating the injured midfielder’s famous arms-outstretched goal celebration.

Díaz put Madrid ahead in the 48th minute with a stunning individual effort, running at the Leipzig defence before shooting past goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi, leading Bellingham to post “Oh my god,Brahim!” on social media.

The Spain winger paid tribute to Bellingham, who’s expected to be out of action for three weeks with a sprained ankle sustained in Madrid’s 4-0 win over Girona on Saturday, with his goal celebration and then when speaking to the media postmatch.

“I love [Bellingham],” Díaz told Movistar. “From the first moment, we’ve got on really well. I’m helping him with his Spanish. He’s a world-class player, and I enjoy playing with him. Apart from the charisma he has, he’s a great person.

“Despite the absences of Jude, who we missed, and of [Antonio] Rudiger, and all those [players] who are out injured for a long time, we keep showing that we’re a great team, that we’re Real Madrid.”

Díaz began the season struggling to break into the Madrid team after signing from AC Milan, but has become increasingly important and has now scored eight goals in all competitions.

“I got the ball; I started running and I saw they were worried about jumping in; they were backing off and I put it in the net,” Díaz said. “I’m intuitive; I wanted to give it to Vinícius [Júnior] but in the end I took the shot. It was a nice goal.”

“After two years in Milan, he looks stronger, with more character,” coach Carlo Ancelotti said when asked about Díaz. “He started the season without playing much, but when he’s got an opportunity, he’s always contributed. Today he scored a spectacular goal.”

“What did I think [before the goal]?” Ancelotti added. “Don’t lose the ball! And he didn’t!”

LaLiga leaders Madrid will face Rayo Vallecano, Sevilla, and Valencia in the league before their return leg against Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 6th.

  • Real Madrid’s star boy Jude Bellingham suffers ankle sprain; set to be sidelined for weeks

Real Madrid’s star boy Jude Bellingham suffers ankle sprain; set to be sidelined for weeks

Real Madrid has confirmed that Jude Bellingham will be sidelined for three weeks due to a high ankle sprain sustained during their LaLiga victory over Girona on Saturday.

Despite scoring twice in the 4-1 triumph against Girona, which propelled Madrid five points clear at the top of La Liga, the England international was forced off before the hour mark with an injury to his left ankle.

Following the match, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti announced that Bellingham would undergo medical examinations.

Subsequently, on Sunday, Madrid confirmed the diagnosis of a sprained ankle.

The timing of the injury is particularly challenging for Madrid as they gear up for Champions League action, facing RB Leipzig in the round of 16 on Tuesday, followed by a LaLiga encounter against Rayo Vallecano next weekend.

Bellingham’s absence poses a significant setback for Madrid, as he is currently their leading scorer with 20 goals across all competitions this season, with 16 of those coming in LaLiga.

Jude Bellingham accused of allegedly calling Mason Greenwood ‘rapist’ during Real Madrid-Man Utd clash

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham is currently under investigation by La Liga following a complaint filed by Getafe.

The accusation claims that Bellingham directed an offensive remark at Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood during Thursday’s match.

In the game, the England international midfielder played a role as Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over their city rivals, elevating them to the top of the table.

The alleged comment, in which Bellingham referred to Greenwood as a “rapist,” reportedly occurred after a contentious tackle near the touchline.

Cadena SER reported the incident to La Liga’s delegate after the match, raising the possibility of disciplinary action against Bellingham.

Former La Liga match official Iturralde Gonzalez told Cadena SER of what could happen from here: “You can be sanctioned if you really say that, but if Getafe wants to defend its player, what it can do is take the case to the Competition Committee.

The League will do what it has to do, but they can appear at the Competition Committee with those images and accuse him of what he said.”

Greenwood, who had faced accusations of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control, saw these charges dropped in February 2023.

Currently on a season-long loan at Getafe for the 2023–24 campaign, his parent club, Manchester United, is expected to determine his long-term future in the upcoming summer transfer window.

  • Chris Waddle details why Jude Bellingham ‘could be a Real Madrid player for life’

Chris Waddle details why Jude Bellingham ‘could be a Real Madrid player for life’

Jude Bellingham “could be a Real Madrid player for life,” says Chris Waddle, with the England international being likened to Paul Gascoigne.

At just 20 years of age, Bellingham has already starred for Borussia Dortmund and Real—breaking records once posted by Cristiano Ronaldo in Spain—and has seen his No. 22 shirt retired at his first club, Birmingham City.

He is a Kopa Trophy and Golden Boy Award winner and is proving that he can become another ‘Galactico’ at Santiago Bernabeu.

Ex-England star Waddle believes La Liga giants in the Spanish capital will already be planning contract extension talks, telling LiveScore Bet of Bellingham’s present and future: “Real Madrid, the way he’s playing, will want to extend that, probably after three or four years.

So he could be a Real Madrid player for life, which is not a bad thing. But the good thing about Jude Bellingham is that he went to Germany first and he learned a lot in Germany. You have to grow up; you have to learn the language; it’s a different culture; it’s a different football. He seems to be a very level-headed guy who always works hard.

“His goals sometimes, you know, people score goals and that helps your performances and gives you confidence and Bellingham just seems to score nearly every week now for Real Madrid. So that’s all great for Real Madrid but it’s also great for England. I know he missed the last game through injury for England, but he’s going to be key at a young age; he’s still a key figure going into it.”

England have booked their tickets to next summer’s European Championship in Germany, with Waddle expecting Bellingham to make a Gazza-esque impact at that tournament alongside world-class Three Lions captain Harry Kane.

Waddle, who made the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup with Gascoigne as a talismanic teammate, added: “You see, Gazza probably came into the World Cup in 1990 as an unknown type. What would happen, you know, what would happen with Paul? Would he shine in the tournament? Would he not get noticed? Gazza took it on; he just went into it and thought I’m meant to be here. Look out, and we all saw the results in 1990 when I was there with Gazza, the performances.

“Jude Bellingham could go into this tournament and come out as the star player. But teams will do their homework and if you actually look at England, if you stop probably Kane and Bellingham from playing and getting chances, there’s not many people to score goals.

“I know [Phil] Foden chips in with the odd one and [Bukayo] Saka, but these two will be under the spotlight and they’ll be under scrutiny by other teams. They’ll look at how England plays, and I think Harry Kane will be marked closely, as will Jude Bellingham.

“So this is another step he’s got to come through, especially Bellingham. He’s got to go to the tournament; expectations are massive for the lad. When Gazza won the tournament and I played with him, there were no expectations. So we’ll see what happens there but if they can keep that form up all season, that is a massive incentive going in there and other teams will be looking at that and they’ll be a bit scared.”

    Bellingham has hit
15 goals for Real through 17 appearances in all competitions, but he is nursing a shoulder problem at present, with it possible that he will require surgery at some stage as England count down the days to another shot at continental glory in 2024.

  • Jude Bellingham a Zidane replacement? Ancelotti speaks

Jude Bellingham a Zidane replacement? Ancelotti speaks

After Jude Bellingham’s standout performance in Real Madrid’s 4-2 Champions League victory over Napoli on Wednesday, Carlo Ancelotti drew a favourable comparison between the young midfielder and Zinedine Zidane.

Bellingham’s decisive header elevated Madrid to a 2-1 lead in the Group C match at the Santiago Bernabeu, responding to Giovanni Simeone’s opening goal for Napoli and Rodrygo’s equaliser for the hosts.

Although Napoli’s Frank Zambo Anguissa levelled the score at 2-2 after halftime, Madrid’s Nico Paz, a young talent, restored the lead before Bellingham assisted Joselu in securing the victory during added time.

“It’s difficult to compare two different generations,” Ancelotti said in his post-match news conference when asked about comparisons with Zidane, who was watching the game at the Bernabeu.

“What I see is [Bellingham’s] ability to get into the box. Zidane didn’t have that. And the individual quality that Zidane had, Bellingham doesn’t have.

“But that’s modern football. Modern football requires physical players like Bellingham, who can cover a lot of the pitch quickly.”

The England international has now scored 15 goals in 16 games for Real Madrid, finding the net in every Champions League appearance for the club so far.

“It looked like he was very tired in the middle of the second half,” Ancelotti said. “He took 10 minutes to recover and then in the last 15 minutes, he made the difference to help us win. It’s surprising. I don’t think anybody could have imagined his adaptation to this style of football for this club.

“He surprises every day, in every game. Not just us; he’s surprising everybody. [Bellingham] is a gift for football. His coach and his teammates are delighted with him, and the fans are delighted with him, but everybody is delighted to see a player with this potential and this positive image.”

Following Joselu’s 94th-minute goal, where he had previously missed several opportunities, Bellingham urged his teammate to bask in the applause of the Bernabeu crowd.

“Bellingham is a young, serious professional,” Ancelotti said. “He’s adapted well to the dressing room. He has to improve his Spanish. As I’ve said many times, nobody is perfect!”

In-form Madrid striker Rodrygo said, “I don’t even have the words,” when asked to describe Bellingham’s impact. “It’s a pleasure to play with him.”

Securing a 4-2 victory ensures that Madrid will progress to the Champions League round of 16 as group winners, boasting a flawless record of five wins in as many matches.

Despite grappling with an injury crisis that has left eight players unavailable to Coach Ancelotti, Madrid sits comfortably at the top of the La Liga table. The team is set to host Granada on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham’s availability – Ancelotti offers updates on youngsters fitness

Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that Jude Bellingham is still struggling with a shoulder injury despite a goal-scoring return for Real Madrid.

The midfielder missed consecutive matches leading up to the international break, having been compelled to withdraw from the England squad for the last two Euro 2024 qualifiers due to a shoulder dislocation suffered against Rayo Vallecano.

Despite this setback, he made a comeback in the starting lineup against Cadiz on Sunday and showcased his prowess by contributing to a 3-0 away victory with a well-placed finish past the goalkeeper in the 74th minute.

However, Bellingham was substituted shortly afterward, and his manager, Ancelotti, acknowledged that the star player has not yet fully recuperated from his recent injury.

Addressing reporters, the Italian tactician stated, “Bellingham is doing well. He still has the lingering issue, but he is managing fine with the protective measures.”

Bellingham’s recent goal brings his total to 14 in 15 games across all competitions since joining the Bernabeu in a high-profile transfer, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 13 in the same number of matches.

The management of the 20-year-old’s injury will be a point of interest moving forward, considering he is not fully fit at the moment.

Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he is set to face Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday, followed by a weekend match against Granada.

According to The Liverpool Echo, Messi made this donation in anticipation of a gala dinner scheduled for Saturday, with the charity aiming to raise over £1 million.

Founded in 2021 by Bellingham, along with Jamie Carragher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Conor Coady, the Football For Change gala is set to benefit from Messi’s donation, which is expected to garner over £300,000.

Additionally, David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, has also offered a tour of the football club, possibly conducted by the former England captain himself.

As part of its initiatives, Football For Change plans to distribute 20 grants, each valued at £100,000, to children and young people in disadvantaged communities in the United Kingdom.

Ahead of the gala this weekend, Alexander-Arnold said, “Football For Change is about helping young people onto a positive path.

“It is footballers and business leaders coming together with a goal to help improve the life chances and opportunities of young people from some of the most challenged neighbourhoods in the country. It is a brilliant initiative and I know, growing up in Liverpool, that is needed now more than ever.”

  • David Beckham predicts that Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham can lead England to success in Euro 2024

David Beckham is optimistic about England’s chances in Euro 2024, believing that their talented squad could put an end to their international tournament struggles.

The former England captain expressed his hope during his attendance at the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final between New Zealand and India in Mumbai, where he served in his role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

At 48 years old, Beckham highlighted the quality of the Three Lions’ squad, emphasising the contribution of both young talents like Jude Bellingham and seasoned veterans like Harry Kane.

Despite England’s strong performances in recent international tournaments, they haven’t clinched a victory since the 1966 World Cup.

They reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 and suffered a heart-wrenching loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.

With a secured spot at the Euro 2024 championships, Beckham remains hopeful for England’s success.

“I really believe in this England team,” Beckham told AFP. “I believe in Gareth Southgate and what he’s doing and what he’s done for a number of years now. We were unfortunate to lose in the Euros final against Italy, but we were so close.

“And I’ve seen that when our national team has some kind of success, the way our country comes together is incredible.”

“I don’t want to speak too soon, but with the 2024 Euros, I think that we have a real opportunity with young players like Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, and the other players that we have in the team.

“And of course, you know, we have a captain like Harry Kane who still continues to inspire his team and still continues to score goals. So I think we have a real opportunity.”

On Friday, England will host Malta before embarking on a trip to North Macedonia three days later. Despite having already secured qualification, their aim is to finish strongly, ensuring they attain top seeding in next month’s group-stage draw.

Chelsea rejected Jude Bellingham move; they were not ready for £20m fee for someone his age – Lampard

Frank Lampard has revealed that during his tenure as Chelsea’s manager, the club declined to approve a £20 million transfer deal for Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.

Lampard, a Chelsea legend, assumed the managerial role at Stamford Bridge in 2019, marking his first managerial stint with the London club.

During his time as manager, Lampard expressed a keen interest in acquiring Bellingham, the English international who was just beginning to make a name for himself at Birmingham.

However, the Chelsea board turned down the proposal, expressing concerns about the hefty price tag of more than £20 million ($25 million) for a teenager who had yet to gain significant experience at the highest level.

“When I was managing at Chelsea for the first time, I was desperate to bring Jude Bellingham in,” Lampard revealed during a chat on the Obi One Podcast.

“But I couldn’t get it through upstairs—the idea of paying £20 million for someone his age (at the time)”.

Following this, there were reports of Manchester United expressing interest in Bellingham, and the legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson personally escorted him on a tour during a visit to the club’s Carrington training complex.

This ignited a competition between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund for Bellingham’s signature, with Dortmund ultimately securing the acquisition of this young talent.

Bellingham subsequently made 132 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit before his sensational summer transfer to Real Madrid in a staggering €131 million (£114 million/$138 million) deal.

He has already achieved remarkable success, with an impressive record of 13 goals in 14 appearances for Los Blancos and the honour of winning the Kopa Trophy as the best U21 player of the 2022–23 season.

The question now looms as to whether Bellingham will be available for Real’s upcoming match, as he had a recent scare with a shoulder injury against Rayo Vallecano.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team is scheduled to face SC Braga in the Champions League on Wednesday, November 8.

Jude Bellingham shunned Man Utd move in 2020 – Rio Ferdinand details why

Rio Ferdinand believes that England midfielder Jude Bellingham turned down a move to Manchester United in 2020 due to a lack of guaranteed regular first-team opportunities.

United made significant efforts to sign the midfielder three years ago, even inviting him and his parents to the club’s Carrington training base in March, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time, Bellingham was with Birmingham City and attracting substantial interest.

However, the 20-year-old, who is currently regarded as one of the best players in the world, opted to join Borussia Dortmund in July of the same year.

He believed that Dortmund would provide him with the best platform to elevate his game to the next level. During his nearly three-year stint with the Bundesliga club, he made 132 appearances and scored 24 goals.

In June, Bellingham was acquired by Real Madrid, where he has excelled, netting 13 goals in his first 13 games, including a brace in a 2-1 victory over Barcelona.

United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News in December, had not ruled out the possibility of making a second attempt to sign Bellingham in the most recent transfer window

El Classico: Barca took the lead, but Bellingham drowned their hope! See highlights

Jude Bellingham once again proved to be the game-changer, securing a come-from-behind victory for Real Madrid in the season’s first Clasico on Saturday.

Bellingham, who has been in outstanding form since his summer move to Real Madrid, scored his first-ever Clasico goal.

Despite Barcelona taking the lead in the first half with Ilkay Gundogan’s strike, Bellingham levelled the match in the 68th minute by beating Marc-Andre ter Stegen and firing a shot into the top corner.

But Bellingham’s impact didn’t stop there.

The midfielder struck again in the late stages of the game, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead.

This goal marked a significant milestone as Bellingham became the first Englishman to score in this iconic fixture since Michael Owen did so for Los Blancos in 2005 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

With 13 goals and three assists in just 13 games for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Bellingham currently holds the top position as La Liga’s leading goalscorer.

Real Madrid now enjoys a rare free midweek, allowing them to recuperate after a demanding schedule before they gear up to face Rayo Vallecano at home the following Sunday.

  • Gary Lineker suggests striking position for ‘versatile’ Jude Bellingham

Gary Lineker suggests striking position for ‘versatile’ Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham has been in impressive goal-scoring form for Real Madrid, leading Gary Lineker to envision the versatile 20-year-old taking on a striker role in the future.

Bellingham’s reputation has primarily been built as a midfielder, where he has showcased his work ethic, passing ability, and knack for finding the back of the net while playing in a deep-lying position.

However, he has also displayed his creativity when deployed as a No. 10, and there are suggestions he could move even further up the field in the coming years.

With 11 goals in 12 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions this season, Bellingham is making a strong case to be utilised as a forward.

The Liga giants have occasionally employed him as a ‘false nine,’ and Lineker believes the immensely talented young player can excel in any role he is assigned.

Ex-England striker Lineker has told The Sun ahead of seeing his former club Barcelona take on Bellingham and Madrid in El Clasico on Saturday: “The way he has started at Real gives Gareth Southgate a great option.

“If something happens to Harry Kane, or after he is finished because Harry is now 30, Jude could play at centre-forward, as a false nine, if you like.

“He is now scoring poacher’s goals. He’s even doing the ‘easy’ bits that I used to do! He has been playing as a No. 10 for England in his last few games. He can play in a deeper role as a No. 8; he is probably the most complete English footballer I’ve ever seen and he’s only 20. No one knows what Jude’s best position is because he is so good in several roles but I could see him playing up front for England.”

    Bellingham, with 27
international caps for the England national team, has managed to score just two goals for his country. As England starts preparing for another opportunity to compete for a major championship next summer at Euro 2024, he will likely aim to increase his goal-scoring record.

Bellingham a ‘catalyst’ but don’t underestimate Harry Kane – England manager, Southgate

England’s manager, Gareth Southgate, showered praise on the remarkable Jude Bellingham after the midfielder’s inspiring performance led his team to a 3-1 victory over Italy at Wembley on Tuesday, securing their spot in the Euro 2024 finals.

While the 20-year-old may not have scored in the match, his substantial impact and unwavering confidence in propelling the team forward were truly impressive.

“I was really pleased with the way we controlled the game,” Southgate told reporters.

“With Jude, his mentality is incredible for his age. To have such an impact at such a young age, to show such maturity but also humility. We’re very lucky to have him.”

Bellingham has also made a huge impact at Real Madrid since joining from Borussia Dortmund this year, scoring 10 goals in his first 10 matches.

He said after Tuesday’s game that the move to Real had improved his game 100%.

“When you are around those mentalities and qualities of players every day, it takes you to a new level mentally, physically and technically,” he told the BBC.

Southgate said the youngster had been a “catalyst” for England.

“Just the way he carries himself and the way he plays on the field shows that,” he explained.

“He’s had that since he walked through the door, frankly. Plus, the power in his play gives us something when you’re in tight situations and he can suddenly wriggle out of things.

“I think that belief and that willingness to engage with the crowd are rare traits in a player so young.”

While Bellingham stood out, Southgate made it clear that his captain, Harry Kane, the scorer of two of the goals, one from the penalty spot, had also played a crucial role.

“There’s a risk we take the goals for granted,” he said on a night that saw Kane become England’s all-time top scorer at Wembley with 24 goals.

“But his all-round play, the way he physically dealt with the centre backs, his vision, his passing—because we’ve had him for a while, he’s easy to underestimate but he’s a top-level player.”

Southgate mentioned that Harry Kane’s high-profile transfer from Tottenham to Bayern Munich had injected a renewed sense of motivation.

However, he also notably relished the return to England and being part of the national team once more.

“Our senior players set a brilliant example for the young ones,” said Southgate.

Jude Bellingham wants over decade stay at Real Madrid

Jude Bellingham has effectively ruled out the possibility of joining the Premier League in the foreseeable future, as he envisions spending a significant portion of his career at Real Madrid, anticipating a stay of at least 10 years.

Since his transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Madrid, the midfielder has made a remarkable impact, notching an impressive 10 goals in as many games across various competitions.

“I am loving football at the minute. My management at the club and country are giving me freedom to play it how I see it,” he told Channel 4. “Since the last few months, I have been really working on my timing when getting into the box and as I am arriving, I am arriving with a big hunger.

“With the big transfer, the fact is I have to deliver, whether it is a goal or assist or a match-winning performance. This is the club I want to be at for the next 10 to 15 years of my life. I am loving it there. Carlo [Ancelotti] basically said, This position is where he sees me.”

This exceptional form has also translated to his international performances, as he played a pivotal role in England’s 2-1 victory over Italy, contributing by winning a penalty and providing an assist, which secured their qualification for Euro 2024.

Bellingham’s extraordinary talents have garnered praise from fellow players, rivals, and former football legends, solidifying his status as one of the world’s premier talents.

The England star will likely be in action again on Saturday when Madrid face Sevilla in La Liga.

Trippier tips Bellingham as the game-changer for England

England’s defender Kieran Trippier has suggested that Jude Bellingham may be the key player who can make a difference for the team in their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy.

Bellingham has been in outstanding form since his summer transfer to Real Madrid, netting an impressive 10 goals in his initial 10 starts across all competitions for his new club.

“He can be the difference,” Trippier told reporters. “At such a young age, with the maturity, the quality and the aggression he’s got, he’s frightening. It’s not a surprise at all, given the standards that he’s set in Madrid.

“You can see he’s playing with freedom and the players around him are going to make him even better. The scary thing is he’s only 20 years old.”
Trippier added that the England side had made “massive steps” since the 2018 World Cup.

“We lost in the Euros final but the most important thing is we’re progressing and doing very well,” Trippier said.

“We’ve got goals from all over the pitch and Jude, Madders [James Maddison], Bukayo [Saka], and Phil [Foden] are still young but can all change games in certain moments.”

Trippier also defended teammate Jordan Henderson, who was booed by England fans during Friday’s 1-0 friendly win over Australia after joining Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq earlier this year.

“For us as players, we stick together,” Trippier said.

“I see Hendo on a daily basis. He is an unbelievable character; he’s a leader — what he does for the team, playing or not playing.

“He’s an unbelievable person to have in the dressing room. He makes sure everyone trains properly. He sets standards.”

England face Italy on Tuesday at Wembley.

  • “No, not sure check his passport” – Impressed Ancelotti questions Bellingham’s age

Jude Bellingham’s impressive start as a Real Madrid player continued as he delivered a remarkable solo goal to put his team in the lead against Napoli, despite initially falling behind.

The match was an intense battle between the two sides, with the home team seizing an early advantage when Kepa Arrizabalaga couldn’t handle a cross, resulting in the opening goal.

Bellingham played a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s comeback, first assisting Vinicius Jr. for the equaliser by intercepting a poor pass from Giovanni Di Lorenzo. He then showcased his individual brilliance with a stunning solo effort, skillfully manoeuvring past the entire Napoli defence.

Napoli managed to level the score through Piotr Zielinski’s penalty, but Federico Valverde sealed the victory for the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners with a breathtaking rocket of a goal.

Bellingham received the Champions League Man of the Match accolade following another outstanding display in only his ninth appearance for Real Madrid, having joined from Borussia Dortmund.

During an interview with CBS Sports Golazo, Ancelotti was humorously queried about whether he believes the player is truly 20 years old, to which the Italian manager offered a lighthearted response.

“No, not sure. You’ll have to check his passport. Fantastic player, strong character, and personality I’m really surprised by this; it is difficult to find a 20-year-old with such strong character and personality. Fantastic signing for us,” he said.

Real Madrid initially paid £88.5 million for the Englishman, with the potential for the fee to reach £115 million based on specific add-on conditions. The former Birmingham City midfielder has already made a significant impact, contributing eight goals and three assists in just nine games for Los Blancos.

One of his standout moments was the winning goal in their first group game against Union Berlin, a dramatic 94th-minute strike that saved the 2022 champions from a spirited debutant’s challenge.

This wasn’t the first instance in which Bellingham’s age had come under scrutiny.

As previously reported by Sports Brief, Rio Ferdinand made a playful remark about Bellingham’s age following his exceptional performance for England during the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

At the time, Bellingham was only 19 years old and had just delivered a standout performance for the Three Lions in their round-of-16 victory against Senegal.

The former international jokingly requested to see Bellingham’s birth certificate, suggesting that the young player seemed remarkably mature for his age.
