Jamie Foxx reflects on his near death experience at BET Awards

Hollywood Icon, Jamie Foxx took the stage at the 2025 BET Awards with a heartfelt emotional message that left the audience in tears.

The Oscar-winning actor and musician, who survived a life-threatening health scare in 2023, reflected on his journey and expressed deep gratitude for his second chance at life.

Foxx, who was honoured with the ultimate Icon Award, recalled watching the in memoriam tribute (a special recognition given to honor and remember people who have passed away) during the ceremony and realizing how close he had come to being included in it.

“When I saw that in a memoriam, I said that could have been me, but I don’t know why I went through what I went through. But I know my second chance, I’m not going to turn it down. I have so much love to give,” he said with his voice filled with emotion.

The actor went on to share how his faith played a crucial role in his recovery.

“I told Him, I said, ‘Bro, just give me one more crack at this, and I promise, I said, whatever reason you put this on me, I promise I’m going to do right,” Foxx stated.

In the video spotted by The Independent Ghana, Foxx’s speech resonated deeply with the audience, including his daughters Corinne Foxx and Anselise Bishop, who were seen wiping away tears.

He credited his family, especially his sister Deidre Dixon, for standing by him during his recovery and ensuring he pulled through.

The moment was one of the most powerful highlights of the night, reminding everyone of the fragility of life and the importance of gratitude.

Foxx’s resillience and determination to embrace his second chance inspired many, making his speech one of the most talked-about moment of the 2025 BET Awards.

Jamie Foxx opened up about his “mystery illness” in his 2-24 Netflix special.

Detailing the experience, he said that on April 11, 2023, he began experiencing a bad headache and asked a friend for an aspirin.

At the time, he was working on the film “Back in Action” alongside Glenn Close and Cameron Diaz, which was released on Netflix earlier in 2023.

The initial headache began a harrowing time for Foxx. “I don’t remember 20 days,” he said in the special.

Once in the hospital, doctors performed surgery on him. While they couldn’t find the original source of the brain bleed, they believed it would be possible for him to make a full recovery, though they told his sister it would be difficult.

The cause of the medical emergency is still unknown, according to Foxx.

“It is a mystery,” he said early in the special. “We still don’t know exactly what happened to me. All I can tell you is that I appreciate every prayer, because I needed every prayer.”

Jamie Foxx addresses accusations of sexual assault

A representative for Jamie Foxx has responded to the sexual assault lawsuit filed against the actor, stating that the alleged August 2015 incident “never happened.”

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, the accuser, identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, claimed that Foxx sexually assaulted her during an encounter at a popular New York City restaurant.

“In 2020, this individual filed a nearly identical lawsuit in Brooklyn. That case was dismissed shortly thereafter,” the spokesperson said. “The claims are no more viable today than they were then. We are confident they will be dismissed again.”

“And once they are, Mr. Foxx intends to pursue a claim for malicious prosecution against this person and her attorneys for re-filing this frivolous action,” the spokesperson added.

In the lawsuit that was filed with the New York Supreme Court, the plaintiff claimed the incident happened at Catch NYC. The alleged victim claimed she saw Foxx and Catch Hospitality Group co-founder Mark Birnbaum having drinks when she went to the establishment.

The alleged victim claimed that she later made her way to the Django Unchained actor’s table with a friend and asked for a picture. The plaintiff claimed Foxx obliged and went ahead to take “several photographs,” adding that the actor “seemed intoxicated.”

She also alleged Foxx told her, “Wow, you have that supermodel body.” “You smell so good,” and “You look like Nickie.” She claimed she asked the 55-year-old actor who “Nickie” was, and he responded by saying, “Gabrielle Union.” She alleged Foxx subsequently grabbed her arm and took her to a secluded area.

After they got there, Doe claimed Foxx “placed both of his hands on her waist, moved them under her ‘crop top’, and began rubbing her breasts.” She claimed she tried to move away and saw a security guard “some distance away who saw what was happening but walked further away.” She also claimed the Law Abiding Citizen actor then placed his hands into her pants and inserted his fingers in her vagina and anus, PEOPLE reported.

The plaintiff claimed Foxx stopped what he was doing after he noticed her friend had come around. The woman claimed the incident resulted in her suffering an injury, adding that she was “rendered sick, sore, lame and disabled; [and] was caused to undergo medical treatment and advice.”

She also claimed she “was unable to pursue her usual and regular activities; was caused to undergo great conscious pain and suffering, continues to undergo such, and will permanently be affected by the injuries and emotional distress she incurred as a result of the sexual assault, abuse, assault and battery.” She further alleged that she “has suffered and continues to suffer physical and emotional injuries, anxiety, distress, embarrassment and economic harm.”

The plaintiff is pursuing an unspecified amount, including damages for pain and suffering and economic loss. Doe filed the lawsuit under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, a law effective since November 2022.

This law provides a “one-year lookback window for survivors of sexual assault that occurred when they were over the age of 18 to sue their abusers regardless of when the abuse occurred.” The final day for alleged victims to file lawsuits under the act was Thursday, November 23.

Foxx’s recent legal situation follows a sexual abuse lawsuit filed by Cassie, the ex-girlfriend of Sean “Diddy” Combs, against the music mogul.

Cassie, whose real name is Casandra Ventura, asserted that Diddy subjected her to sex trafficking, as well as physical and sexual assault, for about 10 years. However, the two entertainers announced they had settled the lawsuit a day after it was filed in New York.

Actor Jamie Foxx, after recovering from a health scare, is enjoying quality time with his girlfriend, Alyce Huckstepp, in various locations.

Considering his recent challenges, Jamie’s newfound enthusiasm for fun is understandable.

Alyce, described as a stunning blonde beauty significantly younger than the ‘Django’ star, has been photographed with Jamie multiple times, confirming their relationship status.

It’s worth noting that Jamie Foxx previously dated Katie Holmes from 2013 to 2019 and has recently expressed interest in rekindling their relationship following his health scare.

The insider said: “Jamie has dated many beautiful women in his life, but none matched what he had with Katie.”

“Their chemistry was off the charts. It was a romance born of passion but became so much more. In hindsight, Jamie can’t believe he let her slip through his fingers.

Jamie Foxx issues apology to Jewish community for social media post

Jamie Foxx has addressed a misunderstanding that arose from a now-deleted social media post, which faced criticism for being perceived as antisemitic.

In a text post shared to his Instagram on Saturday, the Oscar-winning actor wrote, “I want to apologize to the Jewish community and everyone who was offended by my post. I now know my choice of words have caused offense and I’m sorry. That was never my intent.”

Foxx’s message was in reference to a prior post, no longer found on his feed, which read, “They killed this dude named Jesus… What do you think they’ll do to you???!” He ended the post with the hashtags #fakefriends and #fakelove

Critics of the post interpreted “they” as the Jewish people, and historically antisemitism has been linked to the belief Jews are responsible for the death of Jesus.

In his message on Saturday, he continued, “To clarify, I was betrayed by a fake friend and that’s what I meant with ‘they’ not anything more. I only have love in my heart for everyone. I love and support the Jewish community. My deepest apologies to anyone who was offended.”

The posts come after Foxx experienced a still undisclosed “medical complication” that landed him in the hospital this past spring.

Earlier this week, the “Ray” star credited his sister Deidra Dixon with saving his life as part of a birthday tribute video he filmed for her.

Actor Jamie Foxx, 55, has issued an apology for a deleted Instagram post that garnered accusations of antisemitism.

The post in question stated, “They killed this dude name Jesus… what do you think they’ll do to you???! #fakefriends #fakelove”.

Several social media users interpreted Foxx’s words as echoing an antisemitic notion that Jewish individuals collectively bear responsibility for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, a belief that was officially refuted by the Roman Catholic Church in 1965.

Foxx addressed the criticism in a subsequent Instagram post on Saturday, expressing remorse: “I want to apologize to the Jewish community and everyone who was offended by my post. I now know my choice of words have caused offense and I’m sorry. That was never my intent.”

The Ray star further clarified his intention: “To clarify, I was betrayed by a fake friend and that’s what I meant with ‘they,’ not anything more.”

Notably, Jennifer Aniston faced backlash for appearing to “like” Foxx’s initial post prior to its removal.

The Friends actor responded with a statement on her Instagram, asserting her disapproval of any form of antisemitism.

Jamie Foxx has expressed his gratitude towards his “courageous” sister, Deidra Dixon, stating that he would have lost his life if it wasn’t for her.

The Oscar-winning actor, aged 55, shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to his younger sibling, acknowledging her instrumental role in helping him overcome a months-long hospitalization.

Jamie Foxx‘s sister played a significant part in his recovery, and he took the opportunity to publicly thank her and show his love and appreciation on her special day.

“I love you forever and ever happy birthday sis,” he added alongside a series of snaps of Deidra.

Foxx’s other sister, Deondra Dixon, died in October 2020. She was 36.

His post, shared with his 16.7 million followers on the platform, came just days after he spoke out for the first time since being hospitalized following a mysterious “medical complication” in April.

Fighting back tears, the father of one praised his sister and daughter Corinne Foxx, 29, for saving his life.

“To be honest with you, my sister Deidra Dixon, my daughter Corinne Marie saved my life,” Foxx told fans in the July 22 post.

“To them, to God, to a lot of great medical people, I’m able to leave you this video,” he said.

“I cannot tell you how great it feels to have your family kick in in such a way, and y’all know they kept it airtight — they didn’t let nothing out, they protected me — and that’s what I hope that everyone could have in moments like these. But, I’m coming back, and I am able to work,” he added.

Elsewhere in the clip, Foxx said he went to “hell and back” during his stint in the hospital.

“I went through something I thought I would never, ever go through,” Foxx said, informing fans that he’s not “blind” or “paralyzed.”

“By being quiet, sometimes things get out of hand, people say what I got, some people said I was blind, but as you can see, the eyes are working just fine. Said I was paralyzed, I’m not paralyzed,” Foxx said. “I went to hell and back, and my road to recovery had some potholes as well. But I’m coming back, and I’m able to work.”

“Jamie had a blood clot in his brain after he got the shot. He did not want the shot, but the movie he was on, he was pressured to get it,” confessed the journalist, who formally worked as a columnist for the New York Daily News, during an appearance on Dr Drew Pinsky’s online show “Ask Dr Drew.”

Jamie Foxx’s family and friends brace themselves for a ‘worst case scenario’ situation

The health scare that the actor Jamie Foxx experienced weeks ago is still keeping everyone in Hollywood very worried.

Jamie Foxx is still being treated at the hospital.

Foxx is one of the most adored celebrities that gets along with everyone.

After having an episode that his family wants to keep secret, the Academy Award winner reportedly needed to be resurrected.

Although everything points to a potential brain disorder, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

What we can say is that the folks from Radar Online spoke directly to one of Jamie Foxx’s sources about what is happening right now.

The expectations are mixed in terms of his health as he continues in observation at the hospital.

Even though the actor’s spokespeople keep saying he is okay, there still remains the issue that Foxx still hasn’t left the hospital.

Add all the secrecy to that and this can obviously become an impossible to predict scenario where anything could happen.

In fact, the source that offered this report hinted that his family might even be contemplating a ‘worst case scenario’ type of situation.

This is what the source said to Radar Online: “Jamie’s people are saying he’s doing OK and improving, while doctors try to get to the bottom of his problems – but he wouldn’t be in a hospital this long if he was anything close to OK.”

Jamie Foxx’s friends are not sharing his health updates

Getting to the bottom of what happened might be an impossible task unless Jamie Foxx’s people want details of what happened to become public.

For outlets such as CNN, this secrecy surrounding Jamie Foxx’s health status falls perfectly in line with his brand of keeping things quiet.

The Academy Award winner’s daughter, Corinne Foxx, issued a statement on Instagram Wednesday revealing that the actor is recovering after facing a “medical complication” on Tuesday.

‘We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,” shared Corinne in a statement written on behalf of the Foxx family.

“Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers,” the statement reads. “The family asks for privacy during this time.”

A representative for Foxx did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The 55-year-old actor was most recently seen on the set of the upcoming Netflix movie Back In Action, which also stars Cameron Diaz.

The highly anticipated film will be the first big-screen project Diaz has starred in since 2014’s Annie remake, which also featured Foxx.

While Netflix has been tight-lipped with details on the plot of Back in Action, an insider told PEOPLE that the Charlie’s Angels actress and Foxx “have great chemistry” on set.

A film source previously revealed to PEOPLE that Foxx was instrumental in getting the actress to make another movie.

“When this project came along and she was pursued by Jamie Foxx, who she has known and worked with for years, she decided to go for it,” said the source.

Prior to the start of filming, the actor celebrated his birthday in December by posting a throwback black-and-white photo of himself as a child and reflecting on his childhood.

“Dis big head boy bday and thanks for all the bday shouts #sagseason if it’s my birthday it’s your birthday,” he captioned the post.

  • Kanye West wants Jamie Foxx to play him in a movie

The rapper, who has once again found himself at the centre of yet another controversy this week, revealed he wants Jamie Foxx to play him should a film based on his life ever be made.

Without a movie deal in the works, Kanye West has already cast a lead role.

One of the “Jesus Walks” hitmaker’s many Instagram posts this week included one where he asked his 17.9 million followers who should play him in a “Ye Movie.”

The pair collaborated several times throughout their respective glittering careers, with their first link-up being in 2003 for Foxx and Twista’s “Slow Jamz” and for the 2005 track “Gold Digger.”

Also in 2005, West was guest featured on Foxx’s track “Extravaganza.”

West praised Foxx as “one of the greatest geniuses” in the entertainment industry. Foxx won an Oscar and a Golden Globe honour in the Best Actor category for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the drama “Ray.”

It comes as West this week cruelly mocked Gabriella Karefa-Johnson’s style choices for not approving of his widely condemned merchandise, which featured “White Lives Matter” T-shirts.

Front-row guest Jaden Smith left the show immediately when he saw the designs. West was subsequently criticized by a phalanx of journalists, activists and public figures.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid is among his most notable detractors. She blasted West while defending Vogue editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson in a heated Instagram comment.

“You wish u had a percentage of her intellect. You have no idea haha…If there’s actually a point to any of your s–t she might be the only person that could save u,” Hadid, 27, wrote under a post West shared.

Vogue ultimately shared a statement in support of their employee.

“Vogue stands with Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, our global fashion editor at large and longtime contributor. She was personally targeted and bullied. It is unacceptable,” the magazine wrote.

“Now more than ever, voices like hers are needed and in a private meeting with Ye today she once again spoke her truth in a way she felt best, on her terms.”
