Israeli military expands operations in Gaza, prompting further evacuations

Israel urged Palestinians in additional areas of Gaza’s southern city of Rafah to evacuate to what it termed an expanded humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi.

This move signals the military’s intent to proceed with a ground attack on Rafah.

A military spokesperson, in a social media post on X, also urged residents and displaced individuals in Jabalia and 11 other neighborhoods in Gaza to relocate immediately to areas west of Gaza City.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, at least 37 Palestinians, including 24 from central Gaza, were killed in overnight airstrikes, including those in Rafah.

“They threw fliers on Rafah and said, from Rafah to al-Zawayda is safe, people should evacuate there, and they did, and what has become of them? Dismembered bodies? There is no safe place in Gaza,” Khitam Al-Khatib, who said she had lost at least 10 of her relatives in an airstrike on a family house earlier on Saturday, told Reuters.

Al-Zawayda, a small town in the central Gaza Strip, has become overwhelmed by thousands of displaced individuals from various parts of the enclave.

The Israeli military reported conducting airstrikes on numerous targets throughout the Strip in the past day. Additionally, ground troops claimed to have neutralized fighters in Zeitoun in recent hours.

Medics confirmed that an Israeli airstrike resulted in the deaths of at least seven individuals from the same family in a house in Beit Lahiya town, located in the northern Gaza Strip.

Residents in Rafah informed Reuters that the latest evacuation directives issued by the Israeli military encompassed areas in the city center. This development has raised concerns that Israel intends to extend its ground offensive in the region.

“The situation is very difficult, people are leaving their homes in panic,” said Khaled, 35, a resident of the Shaboura neighbourhood, an area where the new orders to leave have been issued.

The Israeli military said it was continuing operational activity against Hamas fighters in eastern Rafah and on the Gazan side of the Rafah crossing.

Despite heavy U.S. pressure and alarm expressed by residents and humanitarian groups, Israel has said it will proceed with an incursion into Rafah, where more than 1 million displaced people have sought refuge during the seven-month-old war.

Israeli tanks captured the main road dividing Rafah’s eastern and western sections on Friday, effectively encircling the eastern side in an assault that has caused Washington to hold up the delivery of some military aid to its ally.

Israel says it cannot win the war without rooting out thousands of Hamas fighters it believes are deployed in Rafah.

About 300,000 Gazans have so far moved towards Al-Mawasi, according to Israeli military estimates released on Saturday.

The war was triggered by a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7 in which some 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 people taken hostage, according to Israeli tallies.

Israel’s military operation in Gaza has killed close to 35,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health ministry. The bombardment has laid waste to the coastal enclave and caused a deep humanitarian crisis.

Two crossing points vital for delivery of aid to Gaza were still closed on Saturday: the Palestinian WAFA news agency said the Rafah crossing was closed for a fifth day, while another crossing, Kerem Shalom, has been shut for around a week.

The latest evacuation orders came hours after internationally mediated ceasefire talks appeared to be faltering, with Hamas saying Israel’s rejection of the truce offer it had accepted returned things to square one.

The Palestinian militant group also hinted it was reconsidering its negotiation policy. It did not elaborate on whether a review meant it would harden its terms for reaching a deal, but said it would consult with other allied factions.

Israel says it wants to reach a deal under which hostages would be released in exchange for the freeing of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, but that it is not prepared to end the military offensive.

    ‘EXHAUSTED’

In Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, where hundreds of thousands were sheltering, Palestinians mourned relatives during funerals on Saturday.

“Here they are, in pieces, here is my sister-in-law, without a head, my aunt is without a head, what is this injustice? Until when will this go on? We are exhausted, by God we are exhausted, I have lived in tents for the past seven months,” said Khatib, sitting near bodies wrapped in white shrouds bearing the names of the dead men and women.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is under increasing pressure over its military campaign, including from longtime ally the United States.

The Biden administration said on Friday Israel’s use of U.S.-supplied weapons may have violated international humanitarian law during its Gaza operation, in its strongest criticism to date of Israel.

But the administration stopped short of a definitive assessment, saying that due to the chaos of the war it could not verify specific instances where use of those weapons might have been involved in alleged breaches.

  • Seven Lebanese and one Israeli killed in shootout at Israel-Lebanon border

Seven Lebanese and one Israeli killed in shootout at Israel-Lebanon border

The Israeli military has bombed a building where paramedics from a Sunni Muslim group in Lebanon were working. Seven people were killed in the bombing. In response, Lebanon fired rockets into northern Israel, killing one person.

The village of Hebbariye was attacked after a day of fighting between Israel’s military and Lebanon’s Hezbollah group. This raised worries that the situation along the border might get even worse, as there has been ongoing conflict there for the past five months during the Israel-Hamas war.

The bombing happened late on Tuesday and targeted an office of the Islamic Emergency and Relief Corps, as reported by the Lebanese Ambulance Association. It was one of the deadliest attacks in a conflict along the border.

The paramedics group shared the names of seven people who volunteered and died in the attack. It said the strike was a clear violation of helping people in need.

Ali Noureddine, a resident of Hebbariye, told The Associated Press that seven people were found dead in the rubble before sunrise on Wednesday.

The Israeli military attacked a military building in Hebbariye and killed a member of Lebanon‘s Sunni Muslim al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, or the Islamic Group, and some other fighters. It said the man was part of attacks on Israel.

Several hours later, Hezbollah said it struck back at the airstrike by shooting many rockets on Wednesday morning at the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona and a military base there.

Rescue workers in Israel reported that a 25-year-old man died when a fire broke out in an industrial park in Kiryat Shmona after it was hit directly. Video from the place showed a lot of black smoke coming out of a building.

Another person got a small injury. The Israeli military said that about 30 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards the northern part of Israel.

Nada Khleif was in her little bakery in Hebbariyeh when the strike caused a lot of damage to her business and a nearby apartment. Fortunately, two of her relatives in the apartment were not hurt.

“The bakery was the only way I could make money to survive. ” “It’s not there anymore,” she said.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah fighters started shooting rockets at Israel one day after Hamas-led fighters attacked southern Israel on Oct. The seventh text will be rewritten in simple words. There has been a lot of fighting lately along the border between Lebanon and Israel. International mediators are trying hard to stop a big war between Hezbollah and Israel.

The fighting in Israel has caused the deaths of nine civilians and 11 soldiers. Around 240 Hezbollah fighters and 40 civilians have died in Lebanon.

  • Leading Israeli military officer confronts Netanyahu on Gaza policy

Leading Israeli military officer confronts Netanyahu on Gaza policy

A key figure in Israel’s military leadership is alleging that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not accurately portraying the country’s objectives in Gaza.

Gadi Eisenkot, whose son died in Gaza, said people who want to completely defeat Hamas are not telling the truth. This comes after Mr Netanyahu said the US proposal for a future Palestinian state is not good and the fighting will continue until they win completely.

The former general said that Mr Netanyahu is partly to blame for not keeping the country safe on 7 October. He thinks there should be new elections because people don’t trust the current leaders.

Hamas attacked southern Israel and killed about 1,300 people. They also took 240 hostages.

There is disagreement among the government leaders, as the prime minister and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant are not talking to each other. This is happening while Israel is having more and more problems with its Western allies.

After Netanyahu talked about the Palestinian state, John Kirby, who works for the White House, said that the United States and Israel have different views on the issue.

Mr Kirby said that we can’t solve Israel’s security problems without a Palestinian state.

But it’s not surprising that Mr. Netanyahu said what he did.

Throughout his career, he has opposed the idea of a Palestinian state and recently said that he was proud to have stopped it from happening.

The Biden Administration is facing criticism again, which will make people feel like he is becoming more and more isolated from other countries. The number of deaths in Gaza is getting close to 25,000, according to the health ministry run by Hamas.

The US has tried many times to change the way Israel fights in this war. They want Israel to use more precise attacks in Gaza instead of just bombing everything. They also want Israel to hold off on sending troops into Gaza or to not do it at all. The US also wants to talk about having two separate countries – Israel and a future Palestine. The Palestinian Authority would also have a say in this.

Mr Netanyahu often says no to requests from US officials in meetings, which makes some Americans more frustrated with President Biden’s strong support for Israel.

Israel’s friends want to bring back the two-state plan in the hope of making peace, despite all the death in the conflict.

Mr Netanyahu wants something different than what he seems to be saying. He probably wants a position that would be more in line with Donald Trump’s future administration. He may have said this to give his supporters in the US something to be excited about during an election year.

In Israel, the prime minister, who is not liked by many people, is relying more on the far-right to support his government.

A new survey showed that only 15% of Israelis want him to stay in his job after the war.

Most Israelis still want to use the army against Hamas, but now more people want to focus on getting the remaining hostages back instead of trying to completely destroy Hamas.

His recent remarks about a future Palestinian state also show that he does not support Arab efforts to help solve the conflict.

Saudi Arabia offered him the chance to make peace with Israel and reach a deal that would create two separate states.

Israel’s leader has put all his effort into staying in power by taking a tough stance against the Palestinian people.

He can no longer pretend to be very good at keeping people safe after the worst attacks in Israel’s history happened while he was in charge.

Now it’s “Mr No Independent Palestine”: he thinks this matches how the public feels. They are not happy with their prime minister and are too upset to think about having a Palestinian state nearby.

  • Israel committed to complete task despite Gaza’s suffering

Israel committed to complete task despite Gaza’s suffering

Israel is not working and taking time off for a break. Schools are closed, and the shopping centers away from the areas of conflict are busy. Jewish people like to eat doughnuts during Hanukkah, and cake shops have a lot of them right now.

The fighting looks different when you are up close. Next to the Gaza border, in an area called the “envelope” by Israelis, there are tanks and soldiers moving around. Most civilians are not there and it looks like a place where there is a war happening.

In the north, near Lebanon, people have been moved out of their communities and the military is still fighting with Hezbollah, Iran’s powerful friend.

Casual visitors might think that life in central Israel, the area between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, has gone back to normal.

As I drove to Tel Aviv, I got a clear reminder that my impression was totally wrong.

The loud sirens went off, and the red alert app on Israeli phones warned people to take cover. Cars pulled over so the people inside could find a safe place. Other drivers went fast to leave the area. Three cars got into a crash because they were confused.

We stopped our car and saw a group of women hugging each other tightly, looking very scared.

In the sky, the Iron Dome system shot down rockets from Gaza with big explosions. A man got hurt in Holon near the highway.

The Israelis are very hurt and upset.

Hamas can still attack Israel, which shows that they are not defeated yet. The drivers’ reaction shows how much pain Hamas has caused Israel, which is good for Hamas leaders. Israel thinks they are in a tunnel under Gaza.

“Before 7 October, forget everything you thought you knew about Israel. ” “It’s all different now,” said Amos Yadlin, a retired high-ranking military officer, as we prepared for an interview in his office in Tel Aviv, with a view of Israel’s defense ministry. Yadlin was a pilot who flew planes in wars for a long time. Then, he stopped and became the boss of Israel’s military information.

We wanted to talk to him to understand how Israel plans for war. In the end, everything he said was fascinating because it showed how people in Israel felt.

MrYadlin often talked about how Israel’s fight against Hamas was similar to World War Two. He was saying that Israel had killed a lot of Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, but he thinks it was necessary. He also said that getting rid of Hamas was really important for Israel’s future.

Mr Yadlin talked about how the RAF bombed Dresden in Germany in 1945, killing many people, including women and children. We are trying not to harm other things. We tell them to go away. We want them to go to the south of Gaza.

I told him that Israel was bombing the places they said Palestinians could be safe in. Yadlin said that Israel was attacking Hamas, not innocent people.

“No, we didn’t explode any bombs on them. We attacked the Hamas areas with bombs. Hamas uses people as a shield and only targets them.

He ignored complaints from the Biden administration in the US that Israel was causing the deaths of many Palestinian civilians. He said Israel tries harder to not hurt innocent people when they bomb jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq compared to the US and UK.

Former generals who were part of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan do not agree with his interpretation. “A high-ranking British officer told me he was shocked by Israel’s disregard for the rules of war that require the safety of civilians. ” He said that it would not be okay to do in the British army.

Amos Yadlin helps the current leaders of the Israeli military and thinks that Israel needs more time to achieve its big goals in Gaza. It wants to save its prisoners, take out the Hamas leaders, eliminate them as a threat to Israel and remove their ability to control.

I said that even though the US said no to the latest peace agreement, it was warning Israel to finish its plans in a few weeks, not longer.

“Mr Yadlin said just reaching the goal is not sufficient. ” “If the remaining hostages are not returned, there won’t be a ceasefire. ”
Rewrite this sentence in simpler words: line

Israel has a very strong army and support from the United States. However, it is finding out that despite its strong belief that it must destroy Gaza to get rid of Hamas, both supporters and opponents are shocked by the way it has killed over 18,000 Palestinians, with about half of them being children.

Israel has learned that fighting a strong enemy in a city is very difficult, just like the Americans and others said it would be.

Amos Yadlin said that even though people are criticizing them, the Israelis are determined to achieve their goals. Then comes the difficult problem of how to manage and rebuild Gaza.

Mr Yadlin said that Israel won’t stay in Gaza for a long time. But if the current leaders keep wanting to control it for a long time, then it seems like Israel will stay there.

  • UN warns of ‘apocalyptic’ situation in Gaza as Israeli troops move southward

UN warns of ‘apocalyptic’ situation in Gaza as Israeli troops move southward

The United Nations said that there is nowhere safe for Palestinians in Gaza because Israeli troops are moving into more areas.

The UN officials say the situation is very bad in the besieged area because there is a lot of fighting and bombing.

The IDF told people to leave a part of Khan Younis because there were airstrikes there.

UN emergency relief official Martin Griffiths said that every time we think things can’t get worse in Gaza, they do.

People are being told to move, but they don’t have much to live on and are forced to make really tough decisions.

“He said that we need to stop being so disrespectful to each other as human beings. ”

Israel is attacking Hamas more and sending soldiers to more areas in the territory.

The Israeli military surrounded the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, near the border with Israel.

The place has seen lots of fighting lately after a break of one week.

Trucks full of help have gone into Gaza in the last two days, but they have had trouble moving because of the fighting.

At the same time, a soldier named Binyamin Needham from Britain and Israel was mentioned by the IDF as one of three troops who died on Sunday while the military continued its ground attack in the southern area of the Strip.

People are honoring the soldier who was seriously hurt and died two days after going to the frontline with the 401st Brigade.

Reports say he died while Israel keeps attacking Gaza and killing lots of innocent people since the break ended on December 1.

  • Israel fires across border into Lebanon

Israel fires across border into Lebanon

The Israeli military says its airplanes attacked some Hezbollah sites in Lebanon, after Hezbollah attacked from the border to the north.

IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari said that they attacked places where terrorists keep their weapons and military equipment.

Ever since the war started in October, Hezbollah, a militia supported by Iran, has been attacking the northern border region of Israel. Hamas also claims it fired rockets from Lebanon towards Israel.

Israel has moved many people out of the area, but the fighting has not turned into a big war yet.

  • Nobody feels secured as bombs fall every ten minutes – Unicef

Nobody feels secured as bombs fall every ten minutes – Unicef

James Elder, who speaks for an agency that helps children, says he is worried about how the Israeli military action in southern Gaza will affect the people who live there.

“Important people are saying that the terrible things that happened in the north should not happen in the south. ” “Yes, that’s definitely true,” Elder said.

He guessed that bombs drop “every 10 minutes”.

People in southern Gaza are not only in danger, but they are also very tired. They have been forced to leave their homes multiple times because of bombings. This has made them feel very worn out and they are trying their best to stay strong for their children, but they don’t have anywhere else to go.

“I see a lot of children being brought in on stretchers with their parents screaming because they got hurt in the war. It makes me think that hospitals and shelters are not safe for them. ” He said

“I don’t feel safe, and no one else does either. “

  • Khan Younis Hospital ‘overwhelmed’ by number of deaths

Khan Younis Hospital ‘overwhelmed’ by number of deaths

In the busy part of the Gaza Strip, there was a lot of bombing after the Israeli military told people to leave.

A representative said that the military operations against Hamas in the south of the Palestinian territory will be just as strong as those in the north, which have caused a lot of damage.

The US, which is Israel’s best friend, asked Israel to avoid hurting more innocent people. A hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis has too many injured people and is struggling to help them all.

A person who works for the UN in Gaza says that Palestinians have very few places to go for safety. The UN thinks that 1. 8 million people from Gaza have been forced to leave their homes.

People thought there might be another short break from fighting in Gaza, but it doesn’t seem likely now. Last week, a break from fighting only lasted for seven days before it ended.

Israel will keep fighting until it reaches its goals, like taking out Hamas.

A leader from Hamas said that they will only talk about swapping Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners if there is a long-term agreement to stop fighting.

  • Israel claims its military is extending its reach throughout Gaza

Israel claims its military is extending its reach throughout Gaza

The Israeli military is now attacking more areas in Gaza where they believe Hamas is located. This is according to their spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.

Hagari said that soldiers were meeting Palestinian fighters directly.

This morning, the Israeli military told people in Gaza to leave 20 areas in the middle of Gaza. They put up a map on social media to show which areas to leave.

With arrows pointing to places in the south where people should go.

A person who speaks for Unicef, the group that helps children all over the world, said he’s having a hard time finding new words to describe how bad things are for children in Gaza because the fighting there keeps going.

“Right now in south Gaza, this is the worst attack of the war,” said James Elder.

  • Israeli military claims investigation of Al-Shifa Hospital might take weeks

Israeli military claims investigation of Al-Shifa Hospital might take weeks

Earlier, Lt Col Jonathan Conricus from the Israeli military talked to our friends at BBC Radio 4’s World at One show about the ongoing operation at Al-Shifa hospital.

Conricus, from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), says they are trying to uncover the full extent of what they believe is a network belonging to Hamas under the hospital in Gaza City. However, this may take a few weeks.

Hamas says it didn’t have a military base under the facility.

Last night, the IDF let Lucy Williamson from the BBC into Al-Shifa and showed her things they claimed belonged to Hamas, such as weapons and other belongings.

The IDF has not shown any proof of a Hamas base or tunnel complex under the hospital yet.

However, Conricus said that they haven’t looked through the entire hospital yet, not even close.

He says we can check and maybe show some video of anything underground.

  • Israel closing in on Gaza City

Israel closing in on Gaza City

It appears that the Israeli military wants to go into the western and eastern parts of the Gaza Strip and move the civilian people to the central neighborhoods of Sabra, Ziton, Daraj, and Askoula.

There are five places where people are fighting, and both sides say the fighting is really intense.

The biggest problem is in the northwest, where many tanks and armored vehicles have entered Gaza from Israel along the coast and gone about six to seven kilometers into Gaza.

Then they moved to the east, seemingly wanting to isolate Gaza City, which is the biggest city in the Strip in terms of size and population.

Israeli military planes are now attacking the al-Quds hospital more often. The hospital is a shelter for many people who ran there to stay safe.

Many people think these strikes are intended to make civilians move to the south and away from Gaza City.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said today that there was a bombing near the hospital and it hurt 21 people.

The BBC saw videos that revealed the large amount of damage to buildings and roads near the hospital.

  • Israel claims to have stopped Houthi airstrikes near Red Sea in Yemen

Israel claims to have stopped Houthi airstrikes near Red Sea in Yemen

The Israeli military reported on Tuesday that they stopped an attack from Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are supported by Iran. This has created concerns in the region that the Israel-Hamas conflict could expand.

A brig is a person who has a military rank. Gen is short for general. Yahya Saree, a representative for the Houthi forces, said on Houthi-owned Al-Masirah TV that they have launched ballistic missiles and drones at targets in Israel. This is their third operation to support the Palestinian people.

He also said that they planned to do more strikes until the “Israeli aggression” stopped.

“Our military launched many missiles, drones, and winged missiles at different targets in Israel,” he said, referring to all of Israel as areas that are occupied.

The Houthis are a group in Yemen who follow the Shia branch of Islam. They are involved in a war within the country against a coalition supported by Saudi Arabia. They have shown their support for the Palestinians and organized protests in Yemen against Israel’s attack in Gaza.

On Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they used their Arrow defense system for the first time to stop a missile that was shot from the Red Sea area.

The Houthis used a very powerful missile in their attempted attack, and the Arrow defense system was used to try and stop it.

Israeli fighter jets also stopped and dealt with what the IDF identified as potential risks in the sky. The IDF said they stopped all threats before they reached Israel.

The recent attacks on Israel show that the Iran-backed Houthis are becoming more aggressive. This is happening despite the United States trying to prevent a potential war in the Middle East.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said on Tuesday that there are more conflicts occurring in the region. He also mentioned that members of resistance groups will not stay quiet about America’s strong support for Israel and they will not wait for advice from anyone.

“He said that we must take advantage of the remaining political chances to end the war. If things get worse, both sides will be in danger and suffer the consequences,” as stated by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Houthi attacks on Tuesday happened after another failed attempt two weeks ago. On October 19, a US warship close to the shore of Yemen destroyed four cruise missiles and 15 small flying machines over a span of nine hours. These weapons were traveling north along the Red Sea. This information was shared by a US official who is knowledgeable about the incident. The way they were moving showed without a doubt that the objects were going towards Israel, the official said.

Brigadier, who is the press secretary of the Pentagon, General Pat Ryder said that the missiles were shot by Houthi forces that have support from Iran in Yemen. These missiles were possibly aimed at targets in Israel. It is very uncommon for the US to intercept Houthi missile launches.

Iran has been giving training and weapons to several groups in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza, despite being under strict sanctions imposed by the US for a long time.

Hezbollah, a strong Shia military group, and Israel have been having small fights every day on the border between Israel and Lebanon since the war started. In October, the US sent two groups of ships to the eastern Mediterranean to stop Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah from attacking Israel.

Since the recent war in Gaza began after Hamas caused a lot of destruction on October 7, there have been occasional attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria too.

  • Israeli tanks approach Gaza City gradually

Israeli tanks approach Gaza City gradually

There have been just concise remarks from the Israeli military, saying it’s growing ground tasks.

Yet, what we’re hearing from inside Gaza is that tanks and heavily clad vehicles are moving consistently towards Gaza City – where the IDF says Hamas has an organization of passages utilized as an order and control focus.

We comprehend from associates that Israeli powers have entered the northern neighborhoods of Gaza City – and that there are reinforced vehicles on both of the principal north-to-south streets.

One comes the coast from the north of Gaza City, and different goes through the center of the Strip toward the south of the city.

What is indistinct now is what could befall regular folks. We realize that there are a huge number of individuals who have not regarded the Israeli military’s call to move from the northern portion of the Gaza Strip south.

Presently apparently those in Gaza City could be stuck there.

Four people murdered after clashes in West Bank – Palestinian officials

There are reports reaching us that fighting in the occupied West Bank, apart from what is happening in Gaza. Palestinian health officials reported this morning that at least four people lost their lives during fights with Israeli troops in Jenin.

According to the news agency Wafa from Palestine,

A group of soldiers and construction vehicles attacked Jenin and damaged the outside of the Ibn Sina Hospital. According to Wafa, missiles were shot into a house and the Jenin refugee camp.

In their latest report today, an Israeli military spokesperson named Daniel Hagari said they conducted an air attack in the city of Jenin. He mentioned, “We aimed at and removed a number of armed terrorists. ”

The Israeli military often raided the West Bank before this war. However, it doesn’t often use air attacks in that place, unlike in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas.

The West Bank and the Gaza Strip are two different areas. The Gaza Strip is controlled by Hamas. The Palestinian Authority rules over some areas in the West Bank that Israel doesn’t completely control.

  • Israel refuses to ceasefire in southern Gaza as thousands wait at border crossing

Israel refuses to ceasefire in southern Gaza as thousands wait at border crossing

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that there are no plans for a ceasefire to help people from other countries leave southern Gaza and allow humanitarian assistance to enter.

According to news from the US media, there were reports that Egypt may allow people to cross the Rafah border for a few hours starting from 9:00 am local time (6:00 am GMT). However, the border is currently closed.

Many people are coming together and hoping to leave Gaza before they think Israel will attack on foot.
People from the United States who are in Gaza were previously told to go nearer to the crossing.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, mentioned that the crossing would be open to provide aid, but he did not give details about when it would happen.
At the moment, the Israeli military is moving 28 communities away from the Lebanese border, within a distance of 2km or 1. 24 miles.

US President Joe Biden asked Israel to be careful as their military gets ready for a ground attack in Gaza.
Over 1,400 people in Israel died in recent attacks by Hamas. At the same time, around 2,700 people in Gaza were killed in Israel’s retaliatory bombing.

  • Israel’s judicial reform ignites military crisis as proportion of reservists climbs

Israel’s judicial reform ignites military crisis as proportion of reservists climbs

Israeli reservists, the backbone of the Israeli military, are threatening to skip work as the country descends into turmoil following the passage of the first bill of a contentious judicial overhaul by the country’s parliament. Furthermore, the Israeli government is raising the alarm over its readiness for war.

Due to a new rule that went into effect on Wednesday, the court no longer has the authority to overturn government decisions if it deems them to be “unreasonable.” Polls indicated that millions of people were opposed to the proposal, which opponents claimed would weaken the independence of the judiciary and destroy Israel’s democracy.

Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the IDF’s chief spokesperson, told reporters on Tuesday that the IDF is competent at the moment but conceded that the readiness of the nation’s armed forces could be impacted.

“The army’s capability will suffer if reservists don’t show up for a while. According to the presence of the reservists, the process would change gradually, he said.

The military has begged for reservists to stay in their positions because analysts think the scope of the threat is unprecedented.

In response to reservists who skipped out on duty on Tuesday, IDF Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi remarked, “The IDF needs you. Only together will we protect our common home.”

Before the contentious “reasonableness” bill was passed on Monday, about 10,000 military reservists declared that they would not sign up for duty under its terms. Additionally, more people are refusing, according to Hagari.

Israeli Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant and US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin spoke over the phone, and Austin reaffirmed the US’ commitment to Israel’s security. But he added that maintaining democracy required “wide consensus through political dialogue.”

Israel is at a historical “inflection point,” according to Chuck Freilich, a senior researcher at The Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) in Tel Aviv who spent more than 20 years working in Israel’s national security establishment, where “extreme measures may have to be taken to endure Israel’s fundamental character of democracy.”

Freilich remarked of reservists who refused, “On the one hand, it is admirable.” However, he added, “it is a horrible thing for the IDF.” He continued that it was astonishing that one of the best militaries in the world “is threatening to come apart at the seams over domestic changes.”

After the vote was approved on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the IDF to “stay out of any political controversy,” claiming that “the call for refusal harms the security of all citizens of the country.”

Israel, a nation that started fighting wars soon after its formation in 1948, has been involved in seven wars and numerous other smaller conflicts with its neighbours.

An institution that is strongly ingrained in many Israelis’ sense of identity and nationhood is the requirement that every Jewish, Druze, or Circassian Israeli over the age of 18 serve in the military. Among others, those who are ultra-Orthodox Jews and Palestinian Israeli citizens are excused from swerving.

IDF reservists and veterans’ protest group Brothers and Sisters in Arms leader Yiftach Golov stated that “by definition, the reservists are the backbone of the IDF.”

According to Golov, “They comprise the majority, the bigger fraction of the IDF,” and they are stronger not just because of their sheer numbers but also because of their greater skill.

The nation’s reserve army, which has over 400,000 soldiers and is available for call-up at any time, is an option for soldiers once they have completed their mandatory service. Israelis may stay in the reserve well into their forties or even beyond.

More than 1,000 reserve members of the Israeli Air Force, which Golov refers to as one of the military’s “main, major forces,” defining its aerial capabilities, are among those threatening to leave. One-third of the IDF’s personnel are in the Israeli Air Force.

One reservist, who has been volunteering for 23 years, told CNN at a demonstration in Jerusalem on Tuesday, “We feel like we are doing the right thing and that we are fighting for the democracy of Israel.”

An further reserve member urged the administration to “stop the madness, stop the destruction of the army.”

Freilich noted that despite a little decline in influence over time, the military continues to play a significant role in Israeli culture and that more than half of Israelis today had served in the IDF. Military duty is a rite of passage for many Israelis.

According to Freilich, reservists are likely to report for service if there is a genuine threat to national security, but their protest still hurts the IDF.

“This isn’t a refusal to serve,” he declared. These are individuals who are fully devoted to Israel’s defence; if a security emergency arises tomorrow, they will all immediately report for service.

“What they’re saying is that this crisis is so important that there is a higher morality they have to report to,” he continued.

In addition to rising border tensions, Israel is currently experiencing an internal crisis.

Formally, the nation is still at war with a number of its neighbours, including Syria and Lebanon. Israeli soldiers and Palestinians in East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, as well as Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, frequently engage in violent clashes.

When Israel and extremists in southern Lebanon exchanged a barrage of rockets in April, tensions along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon increased after years of peace. It was the worst escalation between the two sides since 2006. Israel attributed the rocket attacks to Hamas.

Some of Israel’s adversaries have been paying close attention to the turmoil.

Israel is “on a path of collapse, fragmentation, and disappearance,” according to Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, in a speech broadcast on television on Monday, according to Reuters.

According to some of its citizens, today in particular is the worst day in Israel’s history.

Netanyahu and others have cautioned against skipping military duty, but Golov of Brothers and Sisters in Arms claims that the prime minister is using this as part of a “divide and conquer” strategy.

When the patriots turn traitors, the government will attempt to instill a sense of “an opposite world,” according to Golov.

According to Freilich, Nasrallah, Iran, Gaza, and the West Bank would take “a lot of pleasure in potentially witnessing Israel tear itself apart.”

“However, the demonstrators are not the issue. The administration and the prime minister are to blame for this, he claimed. “He (Netanyahu) is prepared to pay any cost to advance this.”

Golov interprets the threat of reservists abstaining from duty as a portent of far greater things.

Golov declared, “This is just the beginning.” But you’ll see that this movement is now affecting a large portion of the ground brigades, generally known as the army.

A far-right Palestinian community, Israeli minister intends to “destroy”

Broken glass is still all over people’s homes.
Ten-year-old kid shows off a used stun grenade from Israeli military, saying he knows it’s safe because the rope that activates it is gone.

The burned-out gray and black wrecks of cars serve as a macabre reminder of the worst settler aggression these Palestinian communities claim to have ever encountered from Israel.

The village, located in the occupied West Bank south of Nablus, has long been a hotbed of Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
One factor is that it crosses Route 60, a major thoroughfare used by both Israeli settlers and Palestinians.
Also, it is flanked on three sides by notoriously nationalistic Israeli Jewish settlements.

It’s here that two Israeli brothers were shot and killed at point blank range on Sunday while they sat in traffic. The person or persons responsible have yet to be found.

It’s here that, hours later, dozens of settlers went on a rampage that one of Israel’s top military generals later called a “pogrom,” leading to the death of one Palestinian man and other injuries.

Huwara resident Nahawand Damidi’s house is behind a metal fence, for protection against settler attacks. But Sunday night the violence reached another level, she told CNN on Thursday.

“[The settlers] usually attack us by throwing stones. If we try to defend ourselves they will use weapons, but last time was different. Wherever you looked there were bullets … fires, fires everywhere,” she said, standing on her balcony.

Security camera footage residents shared with CNN show settlers – identified by their religious tassels, called tzitzit, hanging from under their sweatshirts – piling flammable material in front of 75-year-old Nawal Dumeidi’s door, before setting it aflame.

The double door is marred with black scar marks from the flames that literally melted the lock, Dumeidi said. Her two sons had to come back from Dubai to force open the door and free her, she told CNN.

“What happened is a wild terrorism,” she said, adding she was stuck in her home for three days before she was able to leave.

Villagers told CNN that they would normally expect the Israeli military to protect them from settler attacks but that on Sunday they did not. The top Israeli general in the West Bank, Major General Yehuda Fuchs, admitted earlier this week the IDF was unprepared for the scale of the settler violence against Palestinians and took responsibility for not controlling it.

Many Israelis go to Huwara to get their cars repaired – with prices being much cheaper than on the other side of the Green Line. The Abu Saris family owns one of those repair shops – but dozen of cars on their lot are now burnt.

Daughter Lamar, 10, speaks confidently and openly about what happened – she’s given several media interviews already.

But she also no longer wants to sleep in her room. Her window was broken when settlers threw stones at it.

“Mom hid us in our room and went to the rooftop to see what’s happening. We heard them breaking the windows of the house. We didn’t do anything to them,” she says, her seven-year-old brother Joud and two-year-old sister Siwar sitting beside her.

Siwar, wearing a yellow Pokemon onesie, whispers “Beep, fire” after she hears a noise outside.

“The biggest crime they did to us is not the business and the cars, but our terrified and traumatized children,” their mother Hana says. “Look at [Siwar], she’s terrified only from hearing a random sound downstairs.”

Hana says as the settlers burned the cars in their lot and shot three bullets toward the home, they screamed “death to Arabs, we will wipe out Huwara.”

Three days after settlers tried to do exactly that, far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, himself a settler leader, repeated the phrase on stage at a media conference.

“I think the village of Huwara needs to be erased,” he told a reporter at a conference run by the Israeli business magazine The Marker. “I think the State of Israel needs to do this, and not – God forbid – private citizens.”

The incendiary remarks drew a harsh and swift rebuke from the US State Department, which dubbed them “repugnant” and “disgusting.” Even Israel’s Ambassador to the US Michael Herzog called it “against our values.”

And though Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he doesn’t accept such violence and called on Israelis not to take the law “into their own hands” in the wake of the rampage, he has yet to denounce Smotrich’s comments.

Many Israelis are disgusted by the violence in Huwara, seeing it as a natural ramification of the most right-wing and pro-settler government in Israeli history.

On Friday, Israeli soldiers intervened in Huwara to prevent dozens of Israelis from demonstrating in support of the villagers.

The town has been deemed a closed military zone in the wake of the violence, specifically with the aim of keeping the sides apart and de-escalating the situation.

Meanwhile, a campaign started by left-wing activist Yair “Yaya” Fink to raise funds for the residents has collected more than 1.7 million shekels (nearly $500,000).

“As a religious person, a Zionist, a major [in the military] and as a person, I cannot be silent while my peers are burning villages,” Fink tweeted the day after the rampage.

Fink says he’s received death threats and spam calls and texts because of his campaign. But he tweeted he’ll keep going: “Whoever thinks that this or the threats on my life will break me doesn’t know me, just another motivation to fight against the terrorist anarchists.”

And Huwara has even become a rallying cry during the protests against the Israeli government’s sweeping judicial reforms. On Wednesday as border police clashed with protesters in Tel Aviv, many chanted “Where were you in Huwara?”
