  • 2022 World Cup: I’m not doing the player selection alone that’s why you have been dropped – Otto Addo allegedly tells Joseph Paintsil

Information gathered indicates that Coach Otto Addo has called Joseph Paintsil to inform him that he is not in the final Ghana squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

According to Tema Youth owner and Bankroller Wilfred Osei Kwaku, popularly known as Palmer, the Coach called Joseph Paintsil and explained to him why he misses out on the squad.

In an interview with Pure FM, Palmer alleges that Coach Otto Addo told the KRC Genk forward that he will not be in the final squad because of external forces.

Palmer explained, “’I’m sorry Joe, unfortunately, you do not make the 26-man squad; if it was up to me, I would have called you but I’m not the only one doing this [selection].”

In the past, Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer had accused the leadership of the Ghana FA of sabotaging the chances of Joseph Paintsil in the Black Stars.

In his view, the player is not being given a fair chance because of his affiliation with the Tema Youth football owner.

  • It will be suicidal to sack Otto Addo 40 days to the world cup – Fred Pappoe

Former Ghana FA vice-president Fred Pappoe has kicked against the sacking of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.

Since the friendly defeat to Brazil in September, there have been some calls for the Ghana national team head coach to be fired.

Speaking to Akoma FM in an interview on Tuesday, Fred Pappoe has stressed that taking a decision to sack the Borussia Dortmund tactician will be suicidal.

“The mistake Hearts of Oak made that led to their defeat to AS Bamako is the same thing people want the FA to commit, forty days to the World Cup and some people want the FA to change the coach, and bring who?

“Like we did going into the 2006 world cup, the friendly matches are being played not necessarily for results but to look out for individual performance and how systems will look for the coaches.

“We should not confuse ourselves by calling for the sack of the coach due to the performance of the team from a friendly match,” Fred Pappoe said.

The experienced football administrator added, “We should not be quick to pass judgment on whether Otto Addo is good or bad, to me he is good. We cannot change him at this time, For me that will be suicidal.”

Coach Otto Addo is under contract with the Ghana FA until December. At the moment, he has the full backing of his employers and will lead the Black Stars to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

  • WAFA rescind decision to withdraw from Ghana FA organised competitions

West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) have rescinded the decision to withdraw from all Ghana FA-organised competitions for the 2022-23 season.

The academy boys have pulled the plugs on their involvement in the zonal Division One League following a directive to relocate the relegated team to Gomoa Fetteh, as exclusively revealed by the country’s leading football website.

But according to reports, WAFA has rescinded the decision following further stakeholder engagement with the Ghana Football Association.

WAFA have now agreed to relocate to Gomoa Fetteh to participate in the National Division One League zone two.

WAFA, which qualified to the elite division as a Zone two team, have been playing their home matches in Sogakope – current location for zone Three teams in the country’s second-tier.

Officials of the club had been pushing to maintain their Sogakope base for home matches in the Division One but that has been outrightly rejected by the governing body.

With most of their juvenile players in school, the club believe relocating to Gomoa Fetteh will be counter-productive.

WAFA officially notified the football association over the decision to pull out of the league this season.

Multiple sources are told GHANAsoccernet.com that owners are considering retaining the club as solely as an academy.

WAFA got relegated last season after six years in the Ghanaian top-flight.

  • Bristol City pleads with Ghana FA over Antoine Semenyo role in Black Stars

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson has urged the Ghana FA to be compassionate with game time for recovering Antoine Semenyo‘s involvement in the international friendly double-header against Brazil and Nicaragua this month.

The City gaffer wants the Ghanaian gaffer Otto Addo to ease him slowly into the team as he yet to recover fully from an injury which has seen him make substitute appearances.

Pearson fears any rush could further exacerbate the situation of the Ghana striker due to the nature of his injury.

Semenyo has been called up by the four-time African champions for an international friendly against South American giants Brazil as well as Central American nation Nicaragua.

The 22-year-old has scored three times in his four appearances from the substitute bench for City since he made an injury return.

The striker missed out of Bristol City’s pre-season after he underwent a rehabilitation following an injury he picked while on international duty.

He is yet to start a game for following the shin injury he picked up while playing for Ghana in June this year.

Nigel Pearson has called for the Ghanaian FA to be sympathetic with Antoine Semenyo’s game time during the international break as he continues his road to full fitness from injury.

And City manager Nigel Pearson has called on the Ghanaian FA to be compassionate with the striker as he continues his road to full fitness.

“We need to make sure that his recovery continues because the nature of his injury is really important that we are mindful of the amount of exposure,” Pearson said.

Nigel Pearson has always been hugely supportive of Semenyo’s international exploits, saying he would never stand in the way between the player and representing his country.

“Hopefully the Ghanaian FA will be sympathetic to our requirements and the player’s requirements because I think Chris (Hughton, Ghana technical advisor) would like him fit for the World Cup and obviously Antoine wants to be available both for us and the national side so common sense should prevail.

“The World Cup is still a few months away which is continued recovery time so by the time he gets to that point, hopefully, we’re not thinking by the same terms.”

Ghana will have one more warm-up game against Switzerland in November before their tournament gets underway against Portugal.

They then play South Korea and Uruguay before determining whether they have progressed into the knockouts.
