Astronomical mystery discovered by NASA telescope in outer space

One of the most recent photographs taken by NASA‘s James Webb Space Telescope was photobombed by a cosmic object that resembled a luminous question mark, and scientists believe they know what it could be.

Herbig-Haro 46/47, a pair of young stars, were shown in the initial near-infrared photograph, which was published on July 26. The stars, which can be found 1,470 light-years away in the Vela constellation of the Milky Way galaxy, are still actively developing and are in close orbits around one another.

Since the 1950s, ground- and space-based telescopes have viewed and studied the two, but the very sensitive Webb telescope has produced the sharpest and most detailed image ever. Compared to other space telescopes, it can observe the universe using longer wavelengths of light.

The Webb telescope sheds light on knowledge about the universe’s beginnings, but the presence of this enigmatic object in the image’s background raises more questions than it does answers. Since the cosmic question mark hasn’t been closely seen or investigated, scientists are unsure of the object’s history and composition.

But based on its form and location, they do have a few theories.

According to Matt Caplan, an assistant professor of physics at Illinois State University, “the very first thing you can rule out is that it’s a star in the Milky Way.” Because stars are point-like, they constantly have these enormous spikes. Diffraction is a phenomenon that mostly results from the edges of the mirrors and the struts that support the type of camera in the middle.

If you look closely, you can typically see six or eight stellar “prongs” with the Webb telescope, Caplan added. He described the apparition as having the shape of a question mark as “it tells you immediately that it’s not a star.”

According to Christopher Britt, an education and outreach scientist in the office of public outreach at the Space Telescope Science Institute, which oversees the science operations of the Webb telescope, it could be a merger of two galaxies that are much more distant than Herbig-Haro 46/47 at a distance of likely billions of light-years apart.

“Many, many galaxies outside of our own Milky Way,” stated Britt. As galaxies expand and change over cosmic time, they occasionally collide with their nearby neighbours, and this seems to be a rather common occurrence.

And when that occurs, they can deform into a variety of shapes, including, presumably, a question mark.

The merging of galaxies into a question mark-like shape has occurred previously, including a reverse version made by the Antennae Galaxies in the Corvus constellation, however it is likely the first time this particular item has been seen, according to specialists. Additionally, Britt noted that most galaxies have seen a number of brief contacts like this during their histories.

Nothing can be anchored in space, according to Caplan. “The sun is moving as it orbits the galaxy, and the galaxy, being made of stars, is moving in whichever direction gravity pulls it.”

Our galaxy will eventually merge with the Andromeda galaxy in around 4 billion years, although it is unknown how they will look. This integration is also our galaxy’s ultimate fate, according to Britt.

It’s also possible that the shape of the question mark is “indicative of a merger where these two galaxies are interacting gravitationally,” according to Britt. “That hook of the question mark on top looks a lot like what we refer to as a tidal tail, where the stream of stars and gas has kind of been ripped off and flown out into space,” the observer said.

More spectroscopic information on the object would provide additional information, including its distance and chemical make-up, according to Britt and Caplan.

However, no one will do this since it is extremely similar to the story of the “local man who finds a chicken tender that looks like George Washington,” Caplan added. But if you were driven enough, you could make some observations.

DC plane crash victims identified as Trump donor’s family

The relatives of a prominent political donor from Florida were among the two deaths on board the plane that crashed in Virginia.

Residents of Washington, DC and the surrounding area were stunned by the unexpected jet crash on Sunday afternoon at around 3:20 pm when they heard a tremendous boom.

Locals heard a loud boom, which NORAD later verified was a military plane being intercepted after entering a restricted airspace.

‘During this event, the NORAD aircraft also used flares – which may have been visible to the public – in an attempt to draw attention to the pilot,’ the defense organization said.

The plane, identified by NORAD as a Cessna private jet, crashed in the George Washington Forest around 3.30pm. The Cessna’s pilot was unresponsive before the crash.

The occupants were identified as Adina Azarian, 49, as well as her 2-year-old daughter, their nanny, and the pilot, a family member confirmed to the New York Times.

That family member, John Rumpel, is the father of Azarian and grandfather of her daughter.

Rumpel and his wife, Barbara Rumpel are prominent businesspeople and Republican political donors. Barbara has served on the executive committee National Rifle Association’s Women’s Leadership Forum since 2012, according to her LinkedIn page.

Records indicate the couple gave a major donation of $250,000 to a political action committee (PAC) to support the reelection of Donald Trump in 2020.

The plane was registered to Encore Motors of Melbourne, a company based in Florida and owned by the Rumpels.

Azarian and her daughter were traveling home to East Hampton, New York after visiting him in North Carolina.

The plane appeared to reach its destination in Long Island before inexplicably turning around and flying in a straight line towards Washington DC.

Rumpel said he had little knowledge of the crash, but theorized it was caused by the cabin losing pressurization.

‘It descended at 20,000 feet a minute, and nobody could survive a crash from that speed,’ Rumpel said.

Investigators found the aircraft’s wreckage in a crater near Montebello, Virginia, the Virginia State Police said on Monday.

None of the four occupants survived the crash.

  • You probably don’t know this outspoken descendant of George Washington who fought KKK

He is known in many circles in the United States for being a strong advocate of Black empowerment and fighting against racial abuse of African Americans. Major George W. Ford, a celebrated war veteran, is recorded to have demanded a retraction from U.S. President Teddy Roosevelt when he said Black soldiers depended heavily on White soldiers to cope in the Spanish-American war.

Roosevelt replied to his letter to indicate that Black soldiers who served under him performed creditably and discharged their duties honorably in the war, according to Sangamon County Historical Society.

Major Ford, who is believed to be a descendant of U.S. President George Washington, at age 50, placed on hold his service at the national cemetery to fight in the Spanish-American War. He is the first African American to have been appointed a superintendent of the national cemetery.

The national cemetery is where high-ranking war veterans who were wounded in the war worked as part of their service to the nation. He enlisted in the military when he was 19 years old in 1867 at the 10th US Cavalry. He was part of a few Black officers to have joined the all-black regiments known as Buffalo Soldiers. He fought in the Indian Wars of the 1870s on the frontlines where the battles were most fierce.

Major Ford recounted his many war adventures including traveling from Kansas to the Rio Grande without crossing a railroad. Major Ford retired at the top level of his military career in the 20th century Sangamon County. He was the regimental quartermaster sergeant in 1877 and proceeded to take a new role at the national cemetery.

Between  1906 to 1930, he was a camp butler at the national cemetery. He was a staunch critic of the Ku Klux Klan. He is known to have protested the launching of a book by a key figure of the KKK, Thomas Dixon, in Springfield. Major Ford said the book titled ‘The Clansman’ and the presence of Dixon will only end up corrupting the morals of residents in an appeal to the Springfield community.

He was part of an eminent committee of 5,000 African Americans who asked the Mayor at the time, Thomas Recce, to disallow Dixon to engage an audience at Springfield. Major Ford gave the campaign a boost by writing correspondence to a former minister to voice his concerns about the promotion of racial sentiments by Dixon. The negative publicity and stiff opposition eventually forced Dixon to cancel the book launch in Springfield.

When he was appointed a major in the 23rd Kansas Infantry to lead a military occupation in Cuba, he took on Teddy Roosevelt over his comments about African-American military officers. Roosevelt later replied to indicate that he had been misquoted in his commentary about the soldiers. Since then Major Ford enjoyed a healthy relationship and friendship with Teddy Roosevelt.

He was also a close friend of pan-Africanist W.E.B. Dubois. Historians say Major Ford was a descendant of George Washington. They trace his family lineage to his grandfather, who was one of the sons of George Washington. There are reports of George Washington having affair with an enslaved woman named Venus.

It is believed that a son by the name of West Ford came out of that engagement at George Washington’s half-brother’s plantation.

Historians say the features of West Ford being light skin and the unusual favors he enjoyed on the plantation lend credence to the affair George Washington had with Venus.
