The Tamil-language film industry in India is mourning because a well-liked actor and director, G Marimuthu, passed away from a heart attack on Friday.
Marimuthu, who was around 50 years old, fell down at a TV studio in Chennai and was declared dead when he reached a nearby hospital.
He was one of the main actors in a TV show called Ethirneechal (Swimming Against The Tide). He was doing the voiceover for some scenes of the show when he passed away.
He also appeared in over 50 movies.
He played a bad guy in a popular movie called Jailer, which is one of the top three Indian films this year.
Marimuthu’s friends from TV came quickly to the hospital when they heard that he had died, according to India Today.
Marimuthu started working in movies in 1990. He moved from his small village in Theni to Chennai to pursue his dream of becoming a film director.
He started out as a waiter in a hotel, then worked as an assistant director for different filmmakers. After that, he went on to direct two movies called Kannum Lannum and Pulivaal.
In the 2010s, he mostly acted in Tamil movies in smaller roles.
“I am very sad to hear that the actor Marimuthu has passed away unexpectedly,” one fan wrote on social media site X.
He was a very famous actor in movies and TV shows. A big loss for our field. “May he find eternal peace in the afterlife. ”
