  • Current Kotoko players are inexperienced- Ex-Kotoko coach, Frimpong Manso

Current Kotoko players are inexperienced- Ex-Kotoko coach, Frimpong Manso

Frimpong Manso, a former manager of Asante Kotoko, has stated that the current squad of the team has not reached the level of performance necessary to match the stature of the club.

He made this statement in response to the criticism the players have been receiving from Kotoko fans due to their poor performance in the 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League season.

Frimpong is of the opinion that the players are not yet experienced enough to maintain the level of consistency that the club requires to succeed.

“The Kotoko club is very demanding, they want to win every game but most of their players are up and coming and it will take a lot of time for them to get to the expected level the fans demand,” he said as quoted by GhanaSportsPage.

He entreated the fans to accept the reality, arguing that their expectation does not correlate with the quality of players at the club.

“If the fans do not accept this and still demand a lot from them, then it must be looked at again,” Coach Frimpong Manso stated.

“So for me, I think the quality of the players does not correspond with the expectations of the fans.”

Asante Kotoko have won just three of their last ten matches, drawing four and losing three.

The defending champions are 6th on the league table with 44 points after 30 matches with four games to end the season.

  • Frimpong Manso unhappy with Coach Prosper Narteh’s resignation ahead of Africa campaign

Prior to their CAF Champions League preliminary round matchup against Rail Club du Kadiogo, Asante Kotoko Legend Frimpong Manso claims that coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum would have been the ideal choice to lead the Porcupines.

Coach Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum guided Asante Kotoko to win the Ghana Premier league title last season.

The former WAFA coach later tendered in his resignation some few weeks ago.

Asante Kotoko with just some few weeks to the first leg encounter against the Burkinabe club are without a head coach.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM Coach Frimpong Manso said he would have preferred Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum to be in charge of the game.

”The disadvantage Asante Kotoko have now is that time is not on their side. Looking at the time in which a new coach is coming in and the departure of certain key plays out of the team with even barely a month before the fixture, I think Kotoko have limited time to be able develop a formidable team in time”.

The Ghana Premier League champions will face the Burkinabe side in this two-legged fixture for a place in the next round of the competition.

  • C.K Akonnor needs time and patience – Frimpong Manso

Former Ghana international, Frimpong Manso has said that Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor will need time to build a winsome side for the national team after suffering a humiliating defeat.

The Black Stars led by Captain Andre Dede Ayew were dominated and beaten by the Malians throughout the entire duration of the game.

Assessing CK Akonnor’s defeat in his first game and the performance of the players he said:”Its too early to say that coach CK Akunnor is not capable of handling the national team, its just one match he has played. Let have the patience for him and support him”, he told Space FM.

“The formation deployed doesn’t account to the loss, but the players didn’t perform well.”

Ghana will take on Asian champions Qatar in their second friendly game on Monday.

Akonnor will be searching for his first win as head coach of the Black Stars.

Former Black Stars defender and current Nkoranza Warriors head coach, Frimpong Manso has opined selection of captains for the Black Stars should be done solely by the head coach of the team.

According to him, Liverpool appointed Virgil van Dijk as a captain whilst old players were there without seniority or how long being with the team.

“If the coach notices that this player can help him on the pitch in terms of sending messages and encouraging the players when things are not going on right then he can decide to appoint.

“Many players were at Liverpool before Virgil van Dijk arrived but the captain was given to him.

“At where we are today, for me it should be sole prerogative of the coach in terms of appointing a captain.” He concluded
