You are a liar who doesn’t fear God – Subin MP tells Gabby

Subin Member of Parliament, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has launched a scathing attack on Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, accusing him of being the mastermind behind the removal of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Majority Leader.

In a blunt statement, Antwi labelled Gabby as “a liar who doesn’t fear God” and claimed that his falsehoods were responsible for the downfall of the veteran politician.

According to Antwi, Gabby and other members of the President’s inner circle mistakenly believed that Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was behind the calls from a faction of Majority MPs demanding the dismissal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

“They thought Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was the one behind us calling for Ken Ofori-Atta to be removed. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was also not even aware until we did our press conference. Where in this world did you hear him say that he wanted to be a finance minister?” Antwi questioned.

Antwi recounted an incident where Gabby invited him to a meeting, which he attended only under the condition that it be recorded to prevent any misrepresentation.

“You called me to come to your house, and I asked you to record me because I didn’t want him to misquote me to the president. I shouldn’t have even gone there, but I went and asked that he record me so that he does not misquote me to the President,” Antwi explained.

He further accused Gabby of leading the charge to oust Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, a move that Antwi believes was a critical mistake ahead of upcoming elections.

“Gabby was the leader of the people who saw to the removal of the Majority Leader. But if you are going into an election as critical as this and you decide to take out the experienced Leader in Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, then you clearly are not ready to make history,” Antwi said during an interview with Oyerepa FM.

The Suame legislator in February of this year formally announced his resignation as Majority Leader, a position he held for over seven years.

In April 2024, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu said he was not pushed to resign from his position as leader of government business in parliament, as speculated.

“I was resigning to save the party; I was resigning to prevent any chaos in the party. That’s all that I can say. But I think ever since I did, I have refused to speak to any station.“

Subin MP warns NPP delegates not to interfere with votes of Christians, Akans

In the upcoming presidential primaries, Eugene Boakye Antwi, the member of parliament for Subin in the Ashanti Region, has warned New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates not to tamper with what he described as Christian or Akan votes.

The former Deputy Minister of Works and Housing explained that the NPP, for a long time has derived its political strength and support from Christian or Akan-dominated areas across the country.

He argued that it is important that delegates of the party do not tamper with that trend.

“Delegates shouldn’t do anything to antagonize that base because if the base refuse to vote, you are out of office,” he said.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa TV, Eugene Boakye Antwi said that there are about 12 polling stations in his constituency where the NPP always trails behind the NDC.

He added that this is because those areas are non-Akan-dominated areas.

He, therefore, cautioned the party against electing candidates who will be detrimental to the base of the NPP.

“The empirical evidence is that we derive our political power, support, authority, and existence from Akan-dominated or Christian-dominated areas of this country, and it’s a fact. Check our current numbers in parliament and you would establish that most of the MPs from the Majority Caucus emerged from Akan-dominated areas. So, why do you want to elect a candidate who will be detrimental to your base?” he quizzed, while speaking with the morning show host, Kwesi Parker-Wilson.

The Subin MP also dismissed claims that his analysis is centered on tribalism, insisting that “in our current politics, we cannot rule out ethnicity or religion.

“People are only making hypothetical analysis that electing Bawumia as flagbearer will weaken the base of the NDC in Muslim communities. The NDC appreciates that Ghana is a Christian-dominated country, reason they elected a Christian as their flagbearer,” he added.

  • Ghanaians in poverty, hardship because of Ken Ofori-Atta – NPP MP

Ghanaians in poverty, hardship because of Ken Ofori-Atta – NPP MP

MP for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Eugene Boakye Antwi wants to know what is special about Finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, that, he is still occupying the office despite the numerous calls for his dismissal or resignation.

The Member of Parliament says there are equally people in the New Patriotic Party that have the capacity to run affairs at the ministry.

The former Works and Housing minister’s outburst come on the back of the suffering Ofori-Atta’s stewardship has subjected Ghanaians to, but still occupying the office as if there were no men in the party who can oversee the Ghanaian economy.

According to him, it still boggles the minds of many as to why the President’s cousin is still the one leading negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the $3 billion bailout whilst Ghanaians have expressed their discontentment with his leadership.

Mr. Boakye Antwi who joined a couple of MPs from the Majority caucus few months ago to demand the Finance Minister’s dismissal or resignation has averred the fact that Mr. Ofori-Atta has been able to manage a bank does not guarantee that he can manage an economy like Ghana since the two are different.

He opined there are men in the NPP with common sense who have become MPs and can equally be Finance ministers.

Eugene Boakye Antwi was speaking on Accra-based Citi TV with Umaru Sanda Amadu.

“What is so special about Ken Ofori-Atta that the ordinary NPP member doesn’t have?

“We cannot all run banks but some of us have common sense, that is why we are Members of Parliament.”

“When I go to Subin, I see poverty, I see hardship, and I see people suffering and all these are due to the economy and the person running the economy,” he said on Face to Face.

What is preventing Ken Ofori-Atta from leaving his post? – Subin MP quizzes

Former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Eugene Boakye Antwi has questioned why Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has remained in that position despite prior calls for his resignation or removal.

Mr. Boakye Antwi, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Subin constituency in the Ashanti Region, cannot fathom why Mr. Ofori-Atta is still leading negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF)  for a $3 billion bailout package, although there are competent persons within the party to handle such duties.

Speaking on Face to Face on Citi TV, the Subin MP who has in the past mounted a campaign to get Mr. Ofori-Atta kicked out asked: “what is so special about Ken Ofori-Atta that the ordinary NPP member doesn’t have?”

The Subin Member of Parliament said running a bank cannot be equated to successfully running an economy of a country such as Ghana.

“We cannot all run banks but some of us have common sense, that is why we are Members of Parliament.”

“When I go to subin, I see poverty, I see hardship, and I see people suffering and all these are due to the economy and the person running the economy,” he told Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face.

  • Subin MP fumes over continuous ‘nonsense’ stay of Ken Ofori-Atta in office

A New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has wondered why the country is continuously entertaining the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Describing it as “nonsense,” the Subin MP said that if this was happening in another jurisdiction, such things would never have been allowed to fester.

According to a myjoyonline.com report, the MP, who is part of some rebel parliamentarians who are seeking the sacking of their party member, the Minister of Finance, made this known while speaking in an interview on JoyNews.

He stated that they are determined to keep President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s promise of removing the minister after he completes his tasks of presenting the 2023 budget to parliament and leading the conclusion of the IMF talks.

“…these are major policy failures that in any civilized democracy, Ken Ofori-Atta will not stand on his feet. Why are we entertaining such nonsense? Excuse my French.

“… what have we got against him as a person? You brought something to us; we are talking about those issues, and you forget about this and say that we want to unseat somebody in the constituency just because you have failed?

“You saw us in the Chamber fighting our NDC guys to pass the e-levy. So, what have we not done for Ken Ofori-Atta to succeed as a finance minister and I say posterity will judge us if this is personal,” he said.

Eugene Antwi further said that he was elected as an MP by his people and as such, all he is seeking is in their interest first, just as it is for the good of the country, far more than anything that will please the president.

“Nobody made me an MP, Akufo-Addo did not make me an MP. God made me an MP. I was elected just as Akufo-Addo was elected so nobody should dare threaten anybody. When you veer into that realm you even muddy the waters more… I contested the primaries like Akufo-Addo contested the primaries to become president.

“The fact that we have taken this position does not mean that it is directly directed at President Akufo-Addo, no. We are talking about the supreme interest of the party. No individual is bigger than this party including Nana Akufo-Addo.” he added.

Over 80 MPs from the majority party have openly declared their opposition to Ken Ofori-Atta, calling on the president to fire him.

The MPs have recently reactivated their demands after the minister fulfilled the requirement of President Nana Akufo-Addo to have him stay on a little longer to complete the IMF deal and present the 2023 budget to parliament.
