  • Ernest Opoku details why his marriage failed

Gospel musician Ernest Opoku Jnr. and his wife Hadassah embarked on their marital journey in 2014, exchanging vows of ’till death do us part.’ However, their union faced significant challenges just three years later.

The troubles in their marriage were sparked by Hadassah’s susceptibility to gossip and rumors, as revealed by the gospel musician himself.

During an interview on The Delay Show, which aired on September 24, 2023, and was monitored by GhanaWeb, Ernest Opoku disclosed that Hadassah had given weight to

unfounded allegations, ultimately leading to her decision to terminate their marriage.

“When two people are embarking on a journey and one of them decides not to continue, you have to let them go,” he said while refraining from giving details but said, “People called her and told her all manner of things and she listened to them. She told me she could not continue with the marriage and I said OK.”

The breakup, according to Ernest Opoku, never left him heartbroken. Without hesitation, he responded, “No, no, no” amid giggling when asked if his heart was broken.

“I was never brokenhearted. My heart has never been broken and I will never be brokenhearted. People keep telling you stuff that there is no evidence to back but you believe them…”

Ernest further disclosed that he shares a twelve-year-old daughter with Hadassah. Additionally, he acknowledged having a son with another woman but opted not to reveal her identity. He clarified that his son was born before he met Hadassah.

Despite the challenges in their marriage, Ernest stated that he maintains an amicable relationship with Hadassah, who currently resides in the United States with their daughter.

I respected Oware Jnr’s privacy during my 8 year stay with him – Ernest Opoku

Gospel musician Ernest Opoku Jnr. has shed light on his eight-year experience of residing under the same roof as fellow gospel artist Oware Junior.

This chapter in their lives began when Ernest Opoku encountered difficulties after the unfortunate passing of his father. Oware Junior kindly extended his hospitality and offered him a place to stay.

Ernest Opoku’s father’s demise in 1999 led him to contemplate various options, including pursuing a career as a shoemaker for eight years. However, his life took a different turn when he met Oware Junior, with whom he shared the following eight years of his journey.

“I went to Atwea Mountains and God revealed himself to me that He was going to use me to win souls through songs,” he said on The Delay Show on September 24, 2023, monitored by GhanaWeb.

“From there, I moved with Oware Junior. We lived in Buokrom. I served him for about eight years. I washed his clothes and accompanied him to events by holding his bag.”

“He had rented a single room and graciously allowed me to stay there. We shared the same bed,” Ernest Opoku added.

According to the singer, Oware Junior, at the time, was not married but was deeply committed to a relationship with a lady named Kukua, whom he intended to marry. He mentioned that when Kukua paid visits, he exited the room for Oware Junior and Kukua to have some privacy.

“Whenever she came to visit, I would leave and return later when they’re done with their meeting,” he said, adding that “their plans for marriage were thwarted due to issues related to her character.”

Ernest Opoku said that after spending eight years with Oware Junior, his meeting with one Yeboah Sekyere marked a turning point in his career. Through that meeting, he recorded his first single, ‘Onyame Di Hene, which was released in 2004, a song that became a hit.

Ernest Opoku now boasts of an 8-bedroom house at Kromoase in Ashanti Region, which, according to him, was built right after leaving Oware Junior’s end following the hit song he produced.

The gospel musician, who was a bit nervous at the time, decided to pray for the child even though there were a number of people around. When he started praying for the child, the lyrics in his “Onyame A Otease” song came to him through the Holy Spirit.

He added that he would not have known this if someone standing by had not recorded and later shared the recording with him. The child who laid down lifelessly coughed and started breathing minutes into his prayer.

“The song travelled all over the world and did wonders for many people. It was directly from God and not me, and every song I have sang afterwards carries weight and power”, he said.
