  • Arsenal has no plans of selling Partey in January window

Arsenal has no plans of selling Partey in January window

Arsenal, an English Premier League club, remains committed to keeping Ghana international Thomas Partey on their roster despite his recurring injury woes.

Since his transfer from Atletico Madrid to the Gunners, Thomas Partey has been plagued by a series of injuries, resulting in his absence from multiple games each season.

Just last month, Arsenal faced another setback when the midfielder sustained yet another injury during training.

Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that it was a muscle injury.

Subsequently, Thomas Partey has missed four matches for Arsenal, with his absence expected to continue into the next game before the November international break.

Despite the concerns raised by his numerous injuries, reports suggest that the club still values Thomas Partey as a pivotal player. Consequently, there are no plans to consider his sale during the upcoming January transfer window.

In the meantime, Thomas Partey will be unable to represent the Black Stars of Ghana in the initial round of qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Information from other sources also suggests that there is a possibility that he may not make a return to the field until the following year.

Jeremy Doku set to join Man City on a 5-year deal

Following their remarkable achievement of securing the treble last season, the English club recognises the significance of maintaining their dominance in the domestic league while contending on the European stage.

In order to provide ample support to manager Pep Guardiola, the influential figures overseeing Manchester City are collaborating closely with him to acquire the necessary reinforcements.

In recent weeks, the spotlight has been on a potential addition to the English Premier League powerhouse, namely Jeremy Doku.

The young Belgian forward, with Ghanaian heritage, has emerged as a candidate for a move to Manchester City.

Excitingly, it has now been confirmed that Jeremy Doku has committed to a five-year contract, marking his forthcoming venture as a player for Manchester City.

The decision to join the Citizens was solidified after discussions with the city’s manager, Pep Guardiola.

Presently, at 21 years old, Jeremy Doku awaits the consensus between Manchester City and his current club, Stade Rennais FC, to finalise the terms of his transfer.

Upon investigation, it has been determined that the anticipated transfer fee for the forward’s move is estimated at approximately 55 million euros.

Jeremy Doku’s acquisition is poised to fill the void left by Algerian forward Riyad Mahrez, who departed from Manchester City earlier in the summer.

Man City in advanced talks to sign Stade Rennais’ Jeremy Doku

Manchester City, the reigning champions of the English Premier League, are actively seeking to bolster their team by acquiring the promising Belgian forward Jeremy Doku.

The football club based in Manchester is said to be engaged in advanced negotiations with the French club Stade Rennais FC to secure the talents of this young attacker, who hails from Ghanaian heritage.

Aged 21, Jeremy Doku has been a part of the French Ligue 1 since 2020, when he made the transition from Belgian side RSC Anderlecht during his teenage years.

Despite contending with injuries, he has shown commendable growth in his skills and performance since joining Stade Rennais FC.

Police arrest Arsenal fan for laser shone at Chelsea star Mudryk

Arsenal has released a statement condemning the shining of a laser into the face of Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk during Tuesday night’s Premier League match between the two London clubs.

The incident led to the arrest of a fan.

Television cameras at the Emirates Stadium captured footage of a light being shone in the direction of the Ukraine international.

Mudryk had come on as a second-half substitute for the visitors and had been jeered by some Arsenal fans.

    Laser light on Mykhailo

The Gunners had been linked with a move for Mudryk in the January transfer window, but the player instead signed for their London rivals. The incident occurred during Arsenal’s 3-1 home victory, which saw the club move back to the top of the Premier League table.

In its statement released on Wednesday morning, Arsenal expressed its disappointment with the incident, saying, “An arrest has been made following the use of a laser during last night’s match. This behaviour is dangerous and totally unacceptable, and we will fully support the police with their enquiries. We will obviously take the strongest possible action.”

Beam green laser hit Mudryk during match between Arsenal and Chelsea

The Football Association (FA) is expected to investigate the matter, while the Metropolitan Police made three further arrests at the game for ticket touting.

The incident has raised concerns about player safety and the behaviour of fans at sporting events. The use of lasers by fans to distract or injure players has become an increasingly common occurrence in recent years, with football authorities and police forces taking a strong stance against such behaviour.

In 2019, a teenager was arrested for shining a laser at Derby County goalkeeper Kelle Roos during a Championship match against Nottingham Forest. The offender was subsequently banned from attending any football match for three years.

The incident involving Mudryk has once again highlighted the need for greater vigilance and security measures at sporting events. Football authorities and clubs must take steps to ensure the safety of players and spectators alike, and to prevent incidents of this nature from occurring in the future.

The use of lasers by fans is not only dangerous but also illegal, and those found guilty of such behaviour can face criminal charges as well as bans from attending matches.

The incident at the Emirates Stadium has also led to questions about the behaviour of football fans in general.

While most supporters are passionate and respectful, a small minority engage in abusive or threatening behaviour that can mar the enjoyment of others and damage the reputation of the sport.

Incidents like this can have a significant impact on players’ mental health and their ability to perform on the pitch. The use of lasers and other forms of harassment and abuse can create a hostile environment that affects players’ concentration and confidence, potentially leading to injury or poor performance.

The incident involving Mudryk is a reminder that football fans have a responsibility to behave in a manner that respects the players, the game, and each other. It is essential that fans are educated about the dangers and consequences of their actions and are held accountable for any misconduct.

Football authorities must also take a proactive approach to address the underlying issues that contribute to such incidents, including discrimination, racism, and violence. By promoting diversity, inclusivity, and respect, football can help to build a better society that values fairness, equality, and sportsmanship.

The incident involving Mudryk is a stark reminder of the need for greater vigilance and security at sporting events, as well as the importance of educating fans about the dangers and consequences of their actions. Football clubs and authorities must work together to ensure the safety and wellbeing of players and fans, and to promote a culture of respect.

  • Arteta tells his Arsenal squad to embrace being back ‘at the top’

Arteta tells his Arsenal squad to embrace being back ‘at the top’

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta witnessed his team’s return to the summit of the English Premier League after a commanding victory over London rivals Chelsea. Despite the success, Arteta remained grounded and vowed to keep his team focused on the task ahead.

The Gunners had enjoyed an eight-point lead at the top of the table last month, but a string of poor results saw them drop behind Manchester City. However, a comprehensive 3-1 triumph over Chelsea ended their winless streak and propelled them back to the summit.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta saw his team return to the top of the Premier League with victory over Chelsea (Adam Davy/PA

The match saw Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard grab a brace, with Gabriel Jesus adding a third before half-time. Chelsea’s only goal came from Noni Madueke, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation for Frank Lampard’s men.

The victory over Chelsea was a significant statement of intent from Arsenal, who have struggled in recent seasons to challenge for the Premier League title.

With the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool dominating the competition in recent years, the Gunners will be eager to prove their worth and claim their first league title since the 2003-04 season.

Despite their recent run, Arteta had refused to rule Arsenal out of the title race and this win took them two points clear – although they have played two more games than City.

The Spaniard admitted he did not want to see morale fall after a galling loss at City last week saw their lead all but dashed.

“It is four games to go, we are at the top right now,” he said.

“We cannot do that (let heads drop), to be where we are after 10 months against the team we are fighting against, being there and having the possibility to be top – we have to enjoy it and embrace it, maximise the opportunity that we have because we don’t know what is going to happen.

“We wanted to have a very different approach to the game, and we did it right from the beginning.

“The team is back to its best. We wanted to prove we had that fire in the belly. I could see that in the last few days, and we prepared (for) the game well.

“Mentally we arrived in the right mood and with the right level of energy. Everything went for us as well, which is important.

“We’ve had a couple of difficult weeks with very different games, with a lot of emotions involved. We’re back to the top of the league – let’s see what happens.”

While it was a night to remember for skipper Odegaard, it was one his predecessor will want to forget in a hurry. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started for Chelsea for the first time since facing the Gunners on November 6 but lasted just 45 minutes before being substituted, having had nine touches – four of which were kick-offs.

Arteta was full of praise for Odegaard and the example set by the Norway international.

“He has 14 goals this season, his contribution to the team, his leadership skills, I’m really pleased with him,” he added.

“He has been exceptional for us, his contribution every single day. I think he has done that (set the tone) on many occasions. What Martin has done this season deserves a lot of credit.”

Chelsea have now lost all six games under interim head coach Frank Lampard, who believes his players are “too nice” as they remain in the bottom half of the table.

“We weren’t good enough,” he conceded.

“We were too nice to play against, too passive. In possession we weren’t playing balls over their press, or winning second balls.

“Chelsea have been a big success for 20 years domestically and in the Champions League, at the moment we’re not in that position.

“But from the moment I’ve been here it’s been evident we’re too nice as a team.

“We can’t change things overnight but we had better get there quickly because we have another game at the weekend and games to come.”

Let Chris Hughton be, give him freedom to run the team – Ex-Fulham midfielder warns GFA against interference

A member of the 2006 Black Stars squad that helped Ghana become the first African nation to qualify for the World Cup, Derek Boateng, has issued a warning against interfering with Chris Hughton’s coaching duties.

As the nation hopes to end a 42-year wait for the AFCON title, Boateng is rallying support for the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager.

Hughton signed a 21 month contract to be coach of the Black Stars and supervised his first two games against Angola during the international break.

After an impressive two-legged game, where Ghana picked four points, Boateng believes Hughton has showed signs of succeeding as the Black Stars gaffer.

“He needs support because he is not too experienced on the African terrain. He needs support from the media, and the GFA should not interfere with his job.

He should be left to work independently and be allowed to call his choice of players because you can see that he is a very genuine coach so he needs to get that freedom to work so we can see how it goes,” Boateng told Asempa FM, as quoted by footballghana.com. “Chris Hughton has coached in the Premier League on several occasions, and we are all aware of his capabilities.

His profile is really good, but since this is his first national team job, he needs our support,” he added.

Boateng enjoyed a stellar career, playing for several clubs including Fulham in the English Premier League and Getafe in La Liga.

“I rate Partey…I’ve done clips that before he went to Arsenal, I was saying Man United should buy Partey,” he said.

When the Partey-Casemiro debate popped up in the discussion, Ferdinand said the comparison is unfair to Partey.

“I genuinely believe he is a top player but if you keep mentioning Casemiro, I don’t think it will be fair on him.”

Thomas Partey has been in sublime form for Arsenal in the 2022/2023 season. He has been the masterstroke and held the Gunners down as they lead the English Premier League table.

With transfer amounts of £106.8 million for Enzo Fernández and £62 million for Mykhailo Mudryk, Chelsea can only hope the team will turn around. Arsenal, who are currently top of the table, signed Jorginho for £12 million; will this tempo-setting player help the team maintain their title hopes?

    Spurs VS Man City

English Premier League: Match Day 22 preview

Man City have struggled in their last three away games against Tottenham. This means things are looking up for the Spurs, who are now at full squad strength. Spurs’ new signings Arnaut Danjuma and Pedro Porro will be keen to make their first appearances this weekend. While earlier in the week Spurs captain Harry Kane was on the bench for an FA Cup clash due to illness, the team still managed a win.

Recently, City has struggled to find the net in their last eight away games, only scoring two or more in one of their matches. Super Star Erling Haaland has been less than stellar in his last six away games, only scoring in one match.

    Everton VS Arsenal

English Premier League: Match Day 22 preview

If the Gunners want to start cementing their position at the top of the table, now is their chance. Playing against Everton, who is fighting for survival, provides an opportunity to score important goals. With key players still out due to injury and a mid-week FA Cup loss against Manchester City, the Gunners are going to need to stay focused.

In the past, it has been games outside of the top six where Arsenal tends to fall; these ‘smaller’ games are where the points are easily won, so it’s Arsenal’s game to lose.

With Everton having won three of the last four Premier League matches against Arsenal, the statistics speak for themselves. But Arsenal has won 99 of their 202 league matches against the Toffees; a win this weekend would make them the first English League team to record 100 wins against the same opponent. Hopefully, new teammate Jorginho will make his debut this weekend and make an impact where it matters most.

  • Romelu Lukaku, 5 other active footballers who have degrees

The life of a footballer is short as the average footballer gets to play actively for 10 years. While many go to real estate, hotels, and other investment ventures with the money they get while playing, only a handful pursue a career in academia.

Footballers across the globe do not have a reputation for intelligence as there is an ill-conceived perception that unintelligent people chase a career in football but there are those who have made themselves to be an exception to that rule.

Today we look at six footballers who are actively playing the sport and are on top of their game but have still managed to get degrees and other academic certificates even with a very busy tight schedule.

    1. Romelu Lukaku – Inter Milan (On loan from Chelsea)

Born on May 13, 1993, to Adolphine Bolingoli Lukaku and father, Roger Lukaku, in the city of Antwerp, Belgium, Romelu picked up a career in football at an early age after he was enrolled in the Rupel Boom academy team.

Romelu has had a great career after playing for Anderlecht, Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton, and Inter Milan.

Aside from scoring over 300 goals in his career, Lukaku is also an intelligent young man who can speak eight languages. The 29-year-old can speak German, English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, and a Swahili dialect.

Born on March 6, 1988, the Belgian international is the second player on this list who has two degrees despite playing football actively.

Simon Mignolet holds a degree in both law and political sciences. The 34-year-old Club Brugge goalkeeper graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.

The Italian international who is also the captain of Juventus wasn’t satisfied with just being one of the best defenders in the world so he decided to take on another challenge and that was in academia.

Giorgio Chiellini is not just a genius on the Football pitch. The Italian defender graduated with a Masters’ Degree in Business Administration from The University of Turin’s School of Management and Economics.13 Jun 2022.

Giorgio is the only player on this list who has a Masters’s Degree. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Commerce in 2010 and graduated with a Masters’ Degree in Business administration in 2017.

  • Sulley Muntari opens up on his failed move to Manchester United

Sulley Muntari, a former AC Milan and Inter Milan player, recalled his unsuccessful transfer to Manchester United.

Muntari claims that in 2001, he participated in his first overseas trial, spending two weeks with Manchester United’s youth team.

Sulley stated in an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV that despite having a decent trial, he was forced to leave Ghana after the May 9th stadium disaster.

“Slay (Sellas Tetteh) took me to Manchester United for trials…At that time, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Beckham, and everybody so…Yeah it was very good I worked with the junior team. I spent a week or two and that was when the disaster happened. I was there when it happened and I came back home,” he said.

He said while waiting on Man United to send the contract and complete the deal, Udinese presented a deal, which he signed.

“When I came we were waiting for United to give me the contract, so I sign and all that. So we were waiting for the contract to come but then Udinese came right away.”

While explaining why the United deal broke down, he said the English Premier League side wanted him to join their sister club, Royal Antwerp on loan for further assessment.

“Man United was interested but I didn’t play with the national team so I had to go to Belgium, Antwerp because they had a relationship with them. So You pick up.”

Sulley started his career at Liberty Professionals before moving to Udinese and then to Portsmouth, where he established. He later returned to Italy and played for giants like Inter Milan and AC Milan.

He is one of the few Ghanaian players to have won the Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup alongside the Italian Serie A title.

  • What Darren Bent, Asamoah Gyan said about Partey’s exceptional display against Nottingham Forest

Thomas Partey, a midfielder from the Black Stars, had an outstanding performance for Arsenal against Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League.

With lavish progressive passes that cut Forest loose and rendered their defensive structure useless as the Gunners pounded them 5-0, Partey masterminded an Arsenal carnage at the Emirate Stadium.

In addition to the astounding display, Partey scored a stunning curler from outside the box, bending the ball from a Reiss Nelson setup to the top corner.
The goal was an exact duplicate of one he scored against Tottenham a few weeks prior.

After the game, former Sunderland and England striker, Darren Bent pointed out the importance of Thomas Partey to Arsenal.

“Thomas Partey is key to this Arsenal team, more control more protection for the back line,” he wrote on Twitter.

The post saw a comment from former Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan could not agree more with his former teammate as he commented “facts”.

Arsenal, who are on top of the table are yet to lose a game in the EPL when the former Atletico Madrid man is on the field.

The North London side have had an impressive start to the season as they lead the standings with 31 points, two points above reigning champions Manchester City.

  • Chelsea co-owner claims Super League desire limited to ‘vocal’ Spanish giants

Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali does not believe many clubs are interested in a revival of the Super League, despite a new proposal for the competition being in development.

The Super League’s launch failed in spectacular fashion last year, with nine of the 12 founding clubs withdrawing in the face of fan, media and player pressure.

While all six English members quickly reversed their support for the competition, Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as Juventus, remain committed to the project.

Media executive Bernd Reichart has been recruited to head up plans for a relaunch, and said on Wednesday: “Even fans will have a lot of sympathy for the idea”.

However, Eghbali – part of the Todd Boehly-led consortium which acquired Chelsea earlier this year, says “vocal” duo Barca and Madrid are those most interested.

“I think the sport needs more premium high-quality matches and content, but it doesn’t have to be a Super League,” Eghbali said at an event in New York on Wednesday.

“Todd went there on an All-Star Game, the baseball talent competition or draft generates £200million to £300million of revenue on a Monday or Tuesday each year, none of that exists in the English Premier League.

“Could there be a Premier League versus Serie A game? Could you see pre-season matches producing more premium content on the pitch? You could.

“But structurally, given how botched that episode was, does anybody have any appetite for something like that? A couple of teams in Spain do and they are vocal about it, but everyone else doesn’t want to go there anymore.”

Reichart, however, claims the Super League project is “very alive”, though he was keen to stress the ability to qualify through sporting merit must exist in any reworked format.

“[The Super League is] very alive, there are some who want to declare that it is dead, but if they say it a lot, there is much to suspect,” he told Cadena SER on Wednesday.

“There are clubs in Europe that surely share the vision of Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona, and now they have the opportunity to contribute what they think.

“It is a long road, but we have the humility to do it step by step, but without pause. The hand is extended to all the members of European football, we want to be inclusive.

“The concept of a fixed position is not something that we are currently contemplating. The design of the format ultimately has to be the result of dialogue, but we don’t have a predefined format, the dialogue we propose is real and that’s why I don’t want to speculate on how it will definitely be. Sporting merit will be applied to all members of that Super League.”

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also scored his first Chelsea goal on his Premier League return after Odsonne Edouard had poked Palace into an early lead.

However, there was controversy surrounding Aubameyang’s goal as it was set up by Thiago Silva, who Palace felt should have been sent off for a deliberate handball which denied Jordan Ayew a possible goalscoring opportunity.

  • The real reason Mohammed Kudus is compelled to transfer to Everton

Mohammed Kudus has forced his exit from Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam as he is just hours from joining English Premier League side Everton,

The 22-year-old has informed Ajax’s leadership that he wants to leave the team in search of regular playing time, and is getting ready to leave for Liverpool as soon as possible on Saturday morning to finalize a loan move to the Toffees.

Sources revealed that his agents met the club’s bosses on Monday to demand the move away from the club.

It has been agreed that the player will be loaned to Everton with the option of a permanent purchase at the end of the season.

With the 2022 World Cup looming, Ghana’s talented playmaker does not want to risk his starting place in the Black Stars squad which led to his decision to demand the move.

Kudus has been unhappy over his bench role under coach Alfred Schreuder since the start of the season despite being the club’s most impressive player in the pre-season.

The utility player scored four goals in four matches for the Dutch giants in pre-season after recovering from a serious injury that blighted the blistering start to his Ajax career.

Having recovered from the injury and performed well during the pre-season, the Ghana playmaker was expecting more playing time this season but he has been consigned to the bench with substitute appearances.

With the Black Stars set to play in Qatar at the World Cup and beig a key player, Kudus insists he wants to be in the best shape to play for his country.

The Ghanaian midfielder joined Ajax from Danish side Nordsjaelland in the summer of 2020 for nine million Euros.

The attacking midfielder had a blistering start to his career at Ajax commanding first team place until injury in his opening UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool stalled his progress.

Although he is now fully fit again and excelled during the pre-season coach Schreuder has placed him on the bench.

Kudus has bluntly told the Dutch side he does not see himself as a bench warmer for another year which forced Everton boss Frank Lampard to swoop for his signature.

The personal terms for the player have been agreed with some few areas to be sorted out between Ajax and Everton.

Goalkeeper Scott Carson and 18-year-old midfielder Cole Palmer are the two members of the playing staff that have tested positive, while an unnamed member of the non-playing staff has also delivered a positive test.

The coronavirus crisis continues to worsen in the United Kingdom and globally, with 40 new cases among Premier League players and staff recorded in the past week – a new high for England’s top flight.

Manchester City have been one of the worst-affected clubs in the Premier League in terms of the number of positive coronavirus tests, with a total of eight players having now tested positive for Covid-19.

That includes first-team stars such as Eric Garcia, Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker, who all missed City’s 3-1 win over Chelsea in their last fixture on January 3.

Despite that fixture at Stamford Bridge going ahead, City have already had one of their matches postponed in the 2020-21 campaign due to the coronavirus situation, with the Premier League meeting against Everton, that was due to be played on December 28, having been called off.

And the news regarding the positive tests for Carson, Palmer and the unnamed staff member represents a worrying latest development, with Covid-19 continuing to spread within the Premier League club.

    The bigger picture

The latest news will come as a concern to head coach Pep Guardiola, who has already seen his options limited in terms of squad selection over the past month.

While the latest two players to have tested positive for Covid-19 are not essential members of the Catalan’s starting XI, the continuing spread of the virus offers a bleak outlook with there the obvious potential for more players and staff to test positive.

Despite the absence of several key players, City have coped well on the pitch, beating Newcastle United 2-0 on Boxing Day before Sunday’s impressive 3-1 win over Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

    What’s been said?

The statement from City regarding the latest positive coronavirus tests reads, in full: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Scott Carson, Cole Palmer and one member of staff have tested positive for Covid-19.

“Both personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.

“Everyone at the club wishes Scott, Cole and all of our other colleagues a speedy recovery ahead of their return to work, training and competition.”

Guardiola, meanwhile, has insisted that City “don’t have many players” ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final meeting with rivals Manchester United, and is concerned that his side will struggle to meet the demands of the fixture list with an ever-depleting squad.

  • Almeria forward Arvin Appiah reveals difference between English and Spanish leagues

Winger Arvin Appiah has disclosed the difference between English Championship football and the Spanish segunda division.

The Almeria forward, who joined from championship side Nottingham Forest last summer says Spanish football is more tactical and technical compared to the highly demanding English football.

“Championship football is a lot more physical than Spain, you know the demand of games in the Championship is a lot.” Appiah told Skysports.

“I feel in Spain it’s a lot more tactical, technical. The way we play with Guti, he came from Real Madrid, he’s obviously a technical player and he wants us to play out from the back, pass move…I’ve learnt so many things from him.”

The 19-year old England born Ghanaian has gradually found his way into manager Jose Maria Guti’s side after a difficult start to life in Spain.

“At first I wasn’t playing and I was getting used to the lifestyle, the culture and stuff but…when I started to play they were very welcoming, they really noticed what I brought to the team,” says Appiah.

He made 13 appearances in the Segunda division before the suspension of the league due to coronavirus.

  • Premier League hopeful of June 8 restart as training centres reopen

Premier League clubs will meet on Friday to discuss plans to resume the 2019-20 campaign in June.

The English top flight, which has been suspended since mid-March because of the spread of the coronavirus, could be back in action as early as June 8 to have the season concluded by the end of July.

UK Secretary for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Oliver Dowden, says that he is working with clubs to bring the league back next month.

He said during parliamentary questions: “I personally have been in talks with the Premier League with a view to getting football up and running as soon as possible in order to support the whole football community.

“But, of course, any such moves would have to be consistent with public health guidance.”

The timeline being proposed would mean clubs would have to be back in full training by May 18 and some top-flight teams are already easing their way back.

On Monday, Arsenal, Everton and West Ham allowed players to return to their training grounds , but warned that they must continue to abide by social distancing guidelines.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are set to reopen parts of their training ground for the senior squad as of Tuesday.

Matches will likely have to be played behind closed doors initially, a likelihood being explored by most countries looking to conclude the 2019-20 season.

The English Football League (EFL) has pledged to have rigorous coronavirus testing in place before games can be played again and insisted the return must not affect key workers.

The Bundesliga is aiming to kick off again on May 9 pending government approval, according to CEO Christian Seifert , but the German police union has warned that even matches behind closed doors would attract “irresponsible” crowds outside stadiums .

The Polish government has approved a five-step plan to bring the Ekstraklasa back by May 29 , while in Italy, players will be allowed to start training individually from May 4 .

Spanish health minister Salvador Illa has resisted laying out a timeframe but suggested La Liga will not return before the summer .

Elsewhere, FIFA is willing to allow teams to make five substitutes in each match in an effort to minimise the risk of injury as the season will have to be concluded in a tight schedule.
