I believe in creatives going into the political space – Veteran actress

Veteran actress Dr. Akosua Abdallah has advocated for individuals from the creative sector to engage actively in politics. She believes that their involvement could highlight the challenges facing the creative arts industry.

During an interview with Elsie Lamar on GhanaWeb TV’s Talkertainment, Dr. Abdallah mentioned creatives like Mark Okraku, Dzifa Gomashie, and John Dumelo who have ventured into politics. She emphasized that creatives in political roles could become advocates for the community, addressing critical issues and supporting artists, especially veterans.

Dr. Abdallah noted, “Having creatives in politics could make them the voice of the oppressed, allowing them to address issues and provide support to artists, particularly older ones. It’s beneficial for them to be in positions where they can be heard.”

Dr. Akosua Abdallah’s distinguished 40-year career began with coordinating drama in Senior High Schools in Tamale before she moved to GBC as an assistant director for arts and religious TV programs. She then joined Abibigromma as an actress and eventually became the Deputy Executive Director of the National Theatre.

In 2017, Dr. Abdallah joined the National Commission on Culture, focusing on youth cultural development through collaborations, staff development, and festival participation, which enhanced skills across the cultural sector. She also served on the Governing Council of AUCC and the International Theatre Institute.
