  • China hits back with 84% tariff on US goods as trade war heightens

China hits back with 84% tariff on US goods as trade war heightens

China has raised its tariffs on US goods to 84%, following the implementation of Donald Trump’s 104% duties on Chinese products earlier today.

The move comes after China’s foreign ministry strongly criticized the US, vowing to “fight to the end” against Trump’s new trade measures if necessary, and accused the White House of “bullying practices.”

Reacting to China’s decision, Trump addressed businesses, saying “now is a great time” to relocate to the United States.

At the same time, the European Union is getting ready to impose its own set of retaliatory tariffs.

These could include a 25% tax on American goods like motorcycles, luxury boats, and orange juice.

Stock prices for European pharmaceutical companies also dropped after Trump hinted at introducing a “major” tariff on all drug imports.

Before steeper tariffs on around 60 nations came into effect today, Trump said many countries were “dying” to negotiate deals. “I’m telling you these countries are calling us up, kissing my ass,” he said.

The Bank of England said Britain is well placed to weather the storm but warns of future risks as the UK government said it’s “confident” it will get a US trade deal.

  • African Trade Ministers to meet on April 14 to discuss Trump’s new tariffs

African Trade Ministers to meet on April 14 to discuss Trump’s new tariffs

African trade ministers are set to meet on April 14 to discuss the impact of a new U.S. tariff policy introduced by President Donald Trump. The policy places a 10 percent tax on all goods entering the U.S. from over 100 countries, including many in Africa.

The meeting will bring together government officials, economists, trade specialists, and representatives from regional trade blocs. Their goal is to find ways for Africa to protect its economic interests in a world where protectionist policies are on the rise.

Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), spoke to the media from Washington, D.C. He described the U.S. tariff decision as a serious warning for Africa.

According to Mene, this move by the U.S. shows why it’s more important than ever for African countries to speed up efforts to trade more among themselves and rely less on major global economies.

“President of the United States has given us a wake-up call. And the wake-up call is that we must accelerate our own economic self-sufficiency. The ministers of trade will meet on April 14 to deliberate on this matter and exactly how our continent should respond.”

Wamkele Mene’s comments reflect what many African leaders and trade experts are now thinking — that rising global economic nationalism and decisions by powerful countries mean Africa needs to act together and prepare better.

The new U.S. tariff could make African goods more expensive in the American market, making it harder for them to compete.

Many African countries depend heavily on exports like clothes, farm produce, raw materials, and manufactured items. A lot of these goods currently benefit from special trade deals like the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which allows them easier access to the U.S. market.

  • Apple’s AI mistakenly transcribes ‘racist’ as ‘Trump’; company pledges to resolve issue

Apple’s AI mistakenly transcribes ‘racist’ as ‘Trump’; company pledges to resolve issue

Apple says it is working to resolve an issue with its speech-to-text tool after reports emerged of iPhones transcribing the word “racist” as “Trump.”

This comes after their speech-to-text tool on iPhones has been mistakenly transcribing the word “racist” as “Trump” before correcting itself. This glitch has caused outrage among Trump supporters and conservative commentators, leading to widespread criticism.

The tech giant suggested that the error in its Dictation service may stem from a difficulty in distinguishing words containing the letter “r.”

“We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers Dictation and we are rolling out a fix today,” an Apple spokesperson said.

A speech recognition expert has cast doubt on Apple’s explanation for the AI transcription error, calling it “just not plausible.”

Peter Bell, a professor of speech technology at the University of Edinburgh, suggested that the issue was more likely caused by a deliberate change to the software rather than a simple phonetic mistake.

Videos circulating online show instances where Apple’s Dictation tool incorrectly transcribes the word “racist” as “Trump” before quickly correcting itself. However, in some cases, the word is transcribed accurately from the start.

The BBC has not been able to replicate the error, indicating that Apple may have already implemented a fix.

Prof. Bell challenged Apple’s claim that phonetic similarities caused the mistake, arguing that the words “racist” and “Trump” are not alike enough to confuse an AI system. He explained that speech-to-text models are trained using real speech recordings paired with accurate transcripts, making such an error unlikely.

They are also taught to understand words in context – for example, they could distinguish the word “cup” from “cut” if it was within the phrase “a cup of tea”.

Prof Bell says the situation with Apple is unlikely to be a genuine mistake with its data because its English language model would be trained on hundreds of thousands of hours of speech, which should give it a high level of accuracy.
For “less well-resourced languages” he said it could be an AI training issue.

But he said in this case: “it probably points to somebody that’s got access to the process.”
A former Apple employee who worked on its AI assistant Siri told the New York Times: “This smells like a serious prank.”

Apple recently backtracked on an AI-powered feature following complaints from the BBC and other news organizations. The company suspended its AI-generated news summaries after the tool displayed inaccurate notifications, including a false claim that tennis star Rafael Nadal had come out as gay.

In a separate announcement, Apple revealed plans to invest $500 billion (£395 billion) in the U.S. over the next four years. The investment will include the development of a major data center in Texas to support Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-driven technology.

Meanwhile, CEO Tim Cook indicated that Apple might reconsider its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies following calls from President Donald Trump to eliminate such programs.

  • ‘EB-5’ visa to be replaced as Trump announces $5M ‘gold card’ residency permit for investor immigrants

‘EB-5’ visa to be replaced as Trump announces $5M ‘gold card’ residency permit for investor immigrants

U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled plans for a new “gold card” residency program, offering foreign investors a pathway to citizenship for $5 million.

This high-value visa is set to replace the existing EB-5 immigrant investor program, which grants green cards to foreigners who create jobs in the U.S. Trump’s Commerce Secretary has criticized the EB-5 system, calling it flawed and rife with fraud.

“You have a green card, this is a gold card,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Tuesday. Permanent residents who are not citizens in the US are known as “green card” holders.

“It’s going to give you green card privileges plus it’s going to be a route to (American) citizenship,” the president added.
What is the EB-5 visa program and why is Trump ending it?

Introduced in 1990, the EB-5 visa program allows foreign investors to obtain immediate green cards by investing approximately $1 million in a U.S. business that creates at least 10 jobs. This visa provides a direct path to citizenship, unlike other green card applicants who often face waiting periods ranging from several months to years.

The program is limited to 10,000 visas annually, with 3,000 specifically allocated for investments in high-unemployment areas, according to the U.S. State Department.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) describes the EB-5 visa as a tool designed to boost the American economy through job creation and foreign capital investment.

However, Trump’s Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, has criticized the program, arguing that it is being misused and that the investment threshold is too low.

“The EB-5 program … it was full of nonsense, make-believe and fraud, and it was a way to get a green card that was low-price. So the president said, rather than having this sort of ridiculous EB-5 program, we’re going to end the EB-5 program,” said Lutnick.

In 2021, the US Government Accountability Office found that EB-5 visas carry significant fraud risks, particularly due to challenges in tracing the origins of applicants’ funds and potential perceptions of favouritism.

“It’ll be people with money,” Trump said, without noting any job-creation requirements.

However, all applicants will undergo thorough vetting to ensure they are “wonderful, world-class global citizens”, according to Lutnick.

When asked if wealthy Russians could qualify, Trump replied, “Possibly. I know some Russian oligarchs who are very nice people.”

TTrump’s proposed “gold card” visa program appears to have no set cap, with the former president suggesting that up to 10 million visas could be sold to help reduce the national deficit.

This initiative comes as his administration continues its aggressive crackdown on undocumented immigrants, with Trump vowing to carry out mass deportations.

Under the proposed plan, each visa would cost around $5 million. Trump announced that further details would be provided in two weeks when the program officially launches.

Currently, green card holders—including those under the EB-5 program—must live as lawful permanent residents for five years before applying for U.S. citizenship. It remains unclear whether recipients of the new gold card visa will have a shorter waiting period.

Golden visa programs are not unique to the U.S.; they exist in several countries, including the UK, Spain, and Greece. Some nations, such as Malta, Egypt, and Jordan, even grant citizenship directly in exchange for investment. The Caribbean is particularly competitive in this space, with Dominica, Grenada, and St. Kitts and Nevis offering passports for as little as $200,000 to $300,000.

These schemes, however, are often criticized for attracting individuals involved in money laundering or fraud. They can also inflate real estate prices in major cities, leading to public backlash. Due to such concerns, countries like the UK, the Netherlands, and Greece have recently scaled back their golden visa programs.

Trump’s proposal could face even greater scrutiny, especially if he bypasses Congress, which is responsible for setting citizenship requirements. While Congress previously approved the EB-5 visa, which Trump now plans to replace, he insists that his new program does not require legislative approval.

  • Netanyahu applauds Trump’s daring plan for Gaza during meeting with Rubio

Netanyahu applauds Trump’s daring plan for Gaza during meeting with Rubio

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced that he is working with US President Donald Trump to implement a plan to resettle Gaza’s population. After meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Jerusalem, Netanyahu stated that both countries have a shared strategy for the Palestinian territory.

This discussion follows Trump’s proposal to have the US take over Gaza and relocate the two million Palestinians to neighboring countries. The UN has warned that forcing civilians to move from occupied territories is illegal under international law and could be considered ethnic cleansing.

The US Secretary of State mentioned that Trump’s plan might have surprised people, but he believed it was bold to offer a new approach instead of old ideas. Netanyahu confirmed that he and Rubio discussed ways to make Trump’s vision happen and that the US and Israel agreed on the Gaza issue.

He also warned that there would be severe consequences if Hamas did not release all Israeli hostages.

“Hamas can not continue as a military or government force,” Rubio added. “And as long as it stands as a force that can govern or administer or a force that can threaten by use of violence, peace becomes impossible.”

The Israeli military started a campaign to destroy Hamas after a cross-border attack on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage. The fighting has caused severe damage in Gaza, with over 48,200 deaths in the 16-month war, according to Gaza’s health ministry run by Hamas.

Most people in Gaza have been displaced many times, and nearly 70% of buildings are damaged or destroyed. The systems for healthcare, water, sanitation, and hygiene have collapsed, and there are shortages of food, fuel, medicine, and shelter.

Palestinian and Arab leaders have rejected Trump’s plan to take over Gaza, stating that Palestinian land is “not for sale.” The US top diplomat did not meet with any Palestinian leaders to discuss Gaza’s future, unlike previous US peace efforts in the region.

At a joint news conference on Sunday, Rubio and Netanyahu discussed shared goals, such as removing Hamas’s control in Gaza, preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and monitoring developments in Syria after Assad.

  • Trump files Supreme Court appeal on removal of US agency leader

Trump files Supreme Court appeal on removal of US agency leader

Former President Donald Trump has asked the US Supreme Court to let him fire the leader of an independent ethics agency that protects federal whistleblowers. He has made an urgent appeal to the highest court to decide if he can dismiss Hampton Dellinger, who heads the US Office of Special Counsel.

This is believed to be the first case from Trump’s many executive actions to reach the Supreme Court. Trump has also removed over a dozen inspectors general from various federal agencies and dismissed thousands of government employees.

Mr Dellinger, who was nominated by President Joe Biden, sued the Trump administration after he was fired by email this month.

He argued that his removal broke a law that protects leaders of independent agencies from being fired by the president, “except in cases of neglect of duty, malfeasance or inefficiency”.

The agency’s main goal is to protect federal employees from illegal actions taken against them for whistleblowing, as stated in its mission statement. On Wednesday, a federal judge in Washington DC issued a temporary order allowing Mr. Dellinger to keep his job while the case is reviewed. On Saturday, the US Court of Appeals in the capital, which was split in its decision, denied the Trump administration’s request to overturn the lower court’s ruling.

This has led to the current legal situation.tice department filing an emergency appeal to the conservative-dominated Supreme Court, a filing seen by various US media.

“This court should not allow lower courts to seize executive power by dictating to the president how long he must continue employing an agency head against his will,” Sarah M Harris, acting solicitor general, wrote in the filing provided by the Department of Justice to the Washington Post.

“Until now, as far as we are aware, no court in American history has wielded an injunction to force the president to retain an agency head,” the acting solicitor general wrote, according to the Associated Press news agency.

  • The would-be African nation in love with Donald Trump

The would-be African nation in love with Donald Trump

Many people in Somaliland are convinced that the United States, under the incoming presidency of Donald Trump, is poised to become the world’s first country to recognise the self-declared republic.

The territory declared independence 33 years ago after Somalia descended into civil war – and in many ways has functioned as a de facto nation-state ever since.

“Donald is our saviour. He is a wise and practical man. God bless America,” says university student Aisha Ismail, whose voice trembles with delight at the prospect.

She is speaking to me from Hargeisa, Somaliland’s capital – a city 850km (530 miles) north of Mogadishu, the seat of the Somali government.

For those in Mogadishu, Somaliland is an indivisible part of Somalia.

“I doubt Donald Trump knows what Somaliland is, never mind where it is,” says Abdi Mohamud, a data analyst in Mogadishu, whose voice starts to shake.

    “I am spitting fire.”

He is so angry because Ms Ismail’s great expectation is not necessarily a pipe dream, at least in the long term.

Powerful and influential Republicans are pushing for the same thing, including Congressman Scott Perry who last month introduced a bill proposing formal US recognition for Somaliland.

It followed the publication in April 2023 of Project 2025, a roadmap for the second Trump presidency compiled by the prominent right-wing Heritage Foundation and more than 100 other conservative organisations

The document mentions only two African territories in its sub-Saharan Africa section – Somaliland and Djibouti – and proposes “the recognition of Somaliland statehood as a hedge against the US’s deteriorating position in Djibouti”.

However, the fact that sub-Saharan Africa takes up less than two pages in the 900-plus page plan suggests the continent is very low on the priority list.

Also, there is no guarantee the incoming administration will follow the blueprint, some of which Trump has already disavowed.

But one thing is clear. The US has already started to change its stance on Somaliland, moving away from its Mogadishu-focused approach, known as the “one-track” Somalia policy.

Somalia has cost the US dearly in financial, resource and human terms since the early 1990s when the bodies of 18 American servicemen were dragged through the streets of Mogadishu after US helicopters were shot down by Somali clan fighters.

The battle, known as “Black Hawk Down”, was America’s worst in terms of casualties since the Vietnam War.

“Any move towards recognising Somaliland’s independence would not only contravene Somalia’s sovereignty but also destabilise the region by setting a dangerous precedent,” says Somali State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar.

The African Union and other global powers believe territorial integrity is paramount. Recognising Somaliland could set off a chain reaction with separatists across the world demanding recognition for the territories they claim.

Omar also highlighted concerns about a possible repeat of the first Trump administration’s decision to withdraw from Somalia most American troops who have been fighting al-Shabab, regularly described as al-Qaeda’s most successful affiliate.

Under Joe Biden’s presidency about 500 US troops have been stationed in Somalia – carrying out special operations and training an elite Somali force, Danab, which means “Lightning” and has proved more effective than the regular Somali army at rooting out al-Shabab.

The Americans have an airbase at Baledogle, north-west of Mogadishu, and conduct regular airstrikes against Islamist insurgents.

“A withdrawal would create a significant security vacuum, emboldening terrorist groups and threatening the stability of not only Somalia but the broader Horn of Africa,” Omar warned.

The minister’s remarks are in a similar vein but more measured than Somalia’s response to a deal between Somaliland and Ethiopia whereby recognition would reportedly be granted in exchange for sea access.

I received late-night calls from Somalis who said they were unable to sleep over the controversial proposal.

Somalia’s then-Environment Minister Aden Ibrahim Aw Hirsi told me at the time: “You are always going on about ‘political bombshells’ in your reporting.

“People here are talking about a political earthquake. This is far more serious. It is a tsunami.”

Turkey has since mediated an end to the feud but the fact that Somalia recently signed a $600,000 (£492,000) a year deal with top Washington lobbying firm, the BGR Group, suggests it is worried about relations with the incoming Trump administration.

The US last month abstained from voting on a UN Security Council resolution to fund the latest incarnation of the African Union intervention force in Somalia.

A key architect of Republican Africa thinking, especially when it comes to Somali issues, is Joshua Meservey, who recently moved from the Heritage Foundation to the right-leaning Hudson Institute.

“The case for Somaliland in US terms is very compelling,” he argues. “I think the question of recognition will definitely be discussed, although the guiding north star is what is best for US national interests in practical terms.”

Senior Africa officials under Trump mark one, including the former Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Tibor Nagy, and Africa envoy, Peter Pham, are energetic supporters of Somaliland’s independence.

Like many American Republicans, Somaliland’s Foreign Minister Abdirahman Dahir Adan sees the relationship in transactional terms.

“If the deal is good for us, we will take it. If the US wants a military base here we will give it to them.”

Recognition sympathisers argue that Somaliland is located at the site of several converging US interests – economic, military and strategic.

Mr Meservey adds that the territory should be “rewarded” for adhering to democratic principles, not relying on foreign aid and having a small government.

Its long coastline runs along one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels may have replaced Somali pirates as the main disruptor of traffic in the area but the attacks remain a major threat to global trade and draw the region closer to the war in the Middle East.

The scramble for foreign bases along the Horn of Africa’s coast is of concern to the US, which established its largest military facility on the continent in Djibouti in 2002.

Russia has its eyes on Port Sudan; the United Arab Emirates (UAE) used Eritrea’s Assab to fight the Houthis and Djibouti is chock-a-block with foreign forces, including the Chinese, who not only have a well-placed military facility but also run the huge port.

Turkey’s largest base on foreign soil stretches along Somalia’s coastline just south of Mogadishu.

Dealing with a rising China is a top Trump priority.

The US has accused the Chinese of interfering with its activities in Djibouti by shining lasers into the eyes of its air force pilots and is keen to move elsewhere.

It also wants to disrupt China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which is taking over much of Africa.

The Red Sea port of Berbera, whether you see it as part of Somaliland or Somalia, has much to offer as an alternative.

China is not there; indeed it is outraged that Taiwan in 2020 established diplomatic relations with the breakaway republic.

The UAE, a key US ally, runs the recently expanded port and hopes it will rival Djibouti.

During the Biden administration, top American officials, including the chief of US Africa Command (Africom), conducted site visits of Berbera, which has a 4km runway ironically constructed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

This was later identified by the US as an emergency landing site for space shuttles – interesting given Trump’s ally Elon Musk’s obsession with space.

In 2022, the US National Defence Authorisation Act was amended to include Somaliland, enhancing security co-operation and potentially paving the way for stronger diplomatic and economic ties.

Pro-recognition Republicans have presented Somaliland as a good business case, hoping to appeal to Trump’s deal-making approach. Project 2025 used the term “hedge”.

A US-based Somaliland diplomat said: “It depends how they sell it to him. They have to make it attractive; they have to seduce him.”

Whether he means it or not, bringing up the explosive issue of recognition would likely suit Trump the disruptor.

It would certainly bring him attention and he could boast about being first.

It would also enrage Somalia, a country he included in his reported 2018 list of “shithole” nations and a place to which he wants to deport undocumented Somalis, failed asylum seekers and criminals.

There is already talk in Somaliland that the territory will be used as a “dumping ground” for such people in exchange for US recognition.

US academic Ken Menkhaus, who has followed Somali issues for decades, brings much-needed balance to the debate.

“It is very likely we will see significant shifts in US policy towards Somaliland and Somalia,” he says.

“Mr Trump has a deep suspicion of foreign aid, is sceptical about state-building and is a neo-isolationist.”

The Horn of Africa needs to be braced for change.

Prophecy of Kamala Harris winning elections wasn’t necessarily 2024 elections – Nigel Gaisie

General Overseer of the Prophetic Hill Chapel, Nigel Gaisie, has clarified that his prophecy regarding Kamala Harris becoming President of the United States refers to a future election and not the 2024 race.

In an interview with UTV, Prophet Gaisie explained that while God showed him a vision of a woman named Harris who would lead the world, he never specified that it pertained to the 2024 election.

“In March or April, I was in Florida engaged in service when God revealed to me that a woman named Harris would lead the world. To be clear, God did not use me to predict that Harris would win the 2024 elections; what he showed me was a woman in a position of leadership on a global scale.”

“Harris is still alive and not dead, so let’s wait and see what happens in her life. This prophecy was not about the 2024 election. I had already said that Trump would make a comeback, and that has happened. Now, let’s see what happens in the life of Kamala Harris,” he said.

He continued, “On November 12, 2020, after Trump lost the elections, I prophesied in my church that he would make a comeback. The videos of that prophecy are available, and they can be found on my Facebook page.”

He concluded, “We should give time to the prophecy the Lord has given. It will surely come to pass, and that does not make me a false prophet.”

NDC optimistic about 2024 elections as Donald Trump win US elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voiced optimism over Donald Trump’s election as President of the United States, viewing it as a positive sign for the party’s future.

According to the NDC, Trump’s return to office after four years aligns with their own aspirations as Ghanaians prepare for the December 7 presidential election.

In a statement signed by NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, the party extended its congratulations to Donald Trump, noting that his decisive win symbolizes a comeback after his four-year absence from the White House.

The NDC is hopeful that this development will inspire Ghanaians to bring back its flagbearer, John Mahama, to the Jubilee House after a similar four-year interval.

“The development is a good omen for us in the NDC and a sign of great things to come given the stark parallels it presents as Ghanaians head to the polls to elect a new president on December 7th.”

Just as Americans have chosen to reset their future with experienced leadership, we believe that Ghanaians will reject the current government’s eight years of insensitivity, corruption, and economic mismanagement. The NDC stands ready to bring stability, integrity, and renewed hope to Ghana,” the statement said.

‘Brave’ Bridget Otoo goes after Elon Musk over ‘Trump assassination attempt report’

Ghanaian media personality, journalist, and advocate known for her outspokenness on social and political issues, Bridget Otoo, has labelled the owner of X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk, as “disingenuous.”

This comes after the Tesla boss tweeted on Sunday, July 14, following an attempted assassination of former USA president Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

Before it was confirmed that, the noise that caused the whisking away of Trump during the campaign rally, many media outlets such as BBC, abc news reported that the former president had to be taken away following loud noises that scared him and the crowd.

With an image of various media outlets’ headlines, Trump’s supporter, Elon Musk dragged traditional media as a “propaganda machine,” taunting X as the seemingly right platform to get authentic news reports.

“The legacy media is a pure propaganda machine. 𝕏 is the voice of the people” the tweet read.

Bridget in reaction slammed the X owner for his insincerity and pretense schooling him over how news is reported that is citing how headlines are changed as more updates evolve with time.

“You are disingenuous. These were the headlines when the initial report came and no one knew it was gunshot. They changed the headlines as more updates came in but you conveniently promoted the first reports.

That’s how media works: headlines change as story develop and more update come in. “Loud noise progressed to gunshots and to assassination attempts” she tweeted.

She went on to urge Elon to ” Do better with your own platform, other than “promoting” the wrong narratives about media. “It won’t serve your base” she added.

  • Neighbours, colleagues of Trump shooter still in shock – All about “quiet and nice” Matthew Crooks

Neighbours, colleagues of Trump shooter still in shock – All about “quiet and nice” Matthew Crooks

The small Pittsburgh suburb of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, is in shock after the FBI identified a local resident, Thomas Matthew Crooks, as the shooter at Donald Trump’s recent campaign rally.

The incident, which occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, left one audience member dead and two others critically wounded.

Crooks, a 20-year-old kitchen worker, allegedly opened fire with an AR-style rifle while Trump was addressing the crowd. He was shot dead on the scene by a Secret Service sniper.

Residents of Crooks’ quiet and affluent hometown are struggling to comprehend how a seemingly ordinary young man could be involved in such a violent act.

The FBI has confirmed Crooks as the “subject involved in the assassination attempt on the former president” and stated that an active investigation is ongoing.

    Who shot at Donald Trump?

The FBI used DNA to identify Thomas Crooks, who did not have ID on him at the time of the incident. Crooks hailed from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, approximately 70 km (43 miles) from where he attempted to assassinate Donald Trump.

A 2022 graduate of Bethel Park High School, he had been awarded a $500 prize for excellence in math and science. Crooks worked in a local nursing home kitchen close to his residence.

US media reported that Crooks was a registered Republican but had also donated $15 to the liberal campaign group ActBlue in 2021. On the day of the shooting, Crooks was wearing a T-shirt from Demolition Ranch, a YouTube channel popular for its gun and demolition content.

Authorities believe the weapon used in the shooting was purchased by Crooks’ father at least six months prior. Law enforcement sources revealed that suspicious devices were found in Crooks’ vehicle, and bomb technicians were called in to investigate.

These devices appeared to be capable of being initiated by commercially available equipment found in the vehicle.

Having established Crooks’s identity, police and agencies are investigating his motive.

“We do not currently have an identified motive,” said Kevin Rojek, FBI Pittsburgh special agent in charge, at a briefing on Saturday night.

The inquiry into what took place could last for months and investigators would work “tirelessly” to identify what Crooks’ motive was, Mr Rojek said.

Speaking to CNN, Crooks’ father, Matthew Crooks, said he was trying to figure out “what the hell is going on” but would “wait until I talk to law enforcement” before speaking about his son.

Police sealed off the road to the house where Crooks lived with his parents, CBS News reports.

A neighbour told CBS that officers evacuated her in the middle of the night with no warning.

Bethel Park Police said there was a bomb investigation surrounding Crooks’s home.

Access to the area remains tightly controlled, with police vehicles blocking the roads. Only residents have been allowed in or out.
Law enforcement sources told CBS that they believe there was some degree of planning ahead of the shooting.

How much time was spent in that planning, however, remains the subject of an ongoing investigation.

Police believe he acted alone but are continuing to investigate whether he was accompanied to the rally.

    Who was Thomas Matthew Crooks?

So far, the image of Thomas Crooks as a person remains unclear and somewhat contradictory.

Local news outlet KDKA reported that some young locals who attended school with Crooks described him as a loner who was often bullied and occasionally wore “hunting outfits to school.”

In contrast, another former classmate, Summer Barkley, told the BBC that Crooks was “always getting good grades on tests” and was “very passionate about history.”

“Anything about government and history he seemed to know about,” he said. “But it was nothing out of the ordinary. He was always nice.”
Others simply remembered him as quiet.

“He was there but I can’t think of anyone who knew him well,” one former classmate, who asked to remain nameless, told the BBC. “He’s just not a guy I really think about. But he seemed fine.

Jameson Myers, a former member of the Bethel Park High School varsity rifle team who graduated alongside Crooks in 2022, told CBS that he did not make the team.

“He did not even make the junior varsity team after trying out,” Mr Myers added.

“He never returned to try-outs for the remainder of high school.”

Mr Myers remembers Crooks as seemingly a “normal boy” who was “not particularly popular but never got picked on or anything.”

“He was a nice kid who never talked poorly of anyone and I never thought him capable of anything I’ve seen him do in the last few days.”
Other community members said simply that they were shocked that the alleged perpetrator of the shooting could have come from the quiet, green streets of Bethel Park.

Among them was Jason Mackey, a 27-year-old local man who lives near the Crooks residence and worked at his school while he was a student.
While Mr Mackey said that he did not know Crooks personally, he is still reeling from a sense of disbelief.

“It’s just shocking. You wouldn’t think an event of this magnitude would come right out of your backyard,” he said. “It’s just a crazy situation.”

    Did he hit anyone?

One person was killed and two others were injured in the shooting.

All three victims are adult men and were audience members, CBS News reports.

At a news conference on Sunday, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro identified the deceased victim at Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old volunteer fire chief who was killed when he “dived on his family” to protect them.

He said that Comperatore “died a hero”.

A GoFundMe page, organised by the Trump campaign’s national finance director, Meredith O’Rourke, was set up in the hours after the attack, with donations going to the families of the injured.

It has so far raised more than $340,000 (£267,000).

In a post to his Truth Social platform, Trump said he was “shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear” and said he felt the bullet “ripping through the skin.”.

Blood was visible on Trump’s ear and face as protection officers rushed him away.

Trump is “doing well” and is grateful to law enforcement officers, according to a statement published on the Republican National Committee (RNC) website.

  • Biden criticizes court ruling declaring Trump’s immunity as undermining the rule of law

Biden criticizes court ruling declaring Trump’s immunity as undermining the rule of law

President Joe Biden has criticized a recent Supreme Court ruling that granted former President Donald Trump partial immunity from criminal prosecution, calling it a “dangerous precedent.”

Biden argued that the decision undermines the “rule of law” and does a disservice to Americans.

Trump, on the other hand, celebrated the court’s ruling as a significant victory for democracy. The justices determined that while a president is immune for “official acts,” they are not immune for “unofficial acts,” sending the case back to a trial judge.

This ruling is expected to further delay Trump’s criminal case related to allegations of attempting to undermine the 2020 election results, which handed victory to Biden.

The trial judge now needs to identify which actions Trump took in his capacity as president, a process that could span several months. It is unlikely that any trial will commence before the presidential election in November.

In a televised statement late on Monday, President Biden said: “This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America. Each of us is equal before the law. No one, no one is above the law. Not even the president of the United States.

“Today’s [court] decision almost certainly means that there are virtually no limits on what a president may do.
“The man who sent that mob to the US Capitol is facing potential criminal conviction for what happened that day.

The American people deserve to have an answer in the courts before the upcoming election.”

Mr Biden was referring to Trump being on trial for his alleged role in stirring up the riot.

“Now, because of today’s [court] decision, that is highly, highly unlikely,” Mr Biden said.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision, a trial judge now faces the task of distinguishing between actions taken by Donald Trump in his capacity as president and those undertaken in a private capacity.

This determination process is expected to be lengthy and may delay any potential trial until after the November 5 election. Trump hailed the ruling as a significant victory, describing it as a “big win” on his social media platform, Truth Social.

The Supreme Court’s ruling grants partial immunity to all former presidents from criminal prosecution, specifying that acts performed as part of official presidential duties enjoy total immunity. However, acts considered “unofficial,” conducted in a private capacity, are not covered by this immunity.

The lower court judge tasked with Trump’s case will now need to assess which specific behaviors of the former president are pertinent to the criminal prosecution.

This case involves allegations that Trump attempted to overturn the 2020 election result by pressuring officials at the Department of Justice (DoJ) to initiate investigations into voter fraud, despite lacking substantiated evidence.

The three liberal justices on the Supreme Court strongly dissented from Monday’s decision. Justice Sonia Sotomayor said: “The president is now a king above the law.”
Democratic Congresswomen Judy Chu said the fallout from the court’s decision would be far-reaching.

“If a president says in any official capacity that they want to do something that we would consider to be improper and criminal, he could be immune from the actions that he takes,” she said.

he recent six-three Supreme Court ruling is expected to significantly postpone any potential trial involving Donald Trump until well after the November election, if it proceeds at all.

This ruling also affects other ongoing criminal cases against Trump, including those concerning classified documents found at his Florida residence and allegations in Georgia related to efforts to overturn his narrow election loss in the state.

According to CBS, Trump’s legal team is pursuing efforts to overturn his May conviction in New York, where he faces charges of falsifying business records linked to an alleged encounter with adult-film star Stormy Daniels.

The team has reportedly referenced the Supreme Court’s decision in a letter to the judge handling the case, although the contents of the letter have not been publicly disclosed.

The New York Times initially reported on these developments, noting that Trump currently faces four separate legal challenges.

Billionaire donates $50m to Trump campaign

Donald Trump’s campaign for the presidency has received a substantial financial boost of $50 million from conservative billionaire Timothy Mellon, according to a federal filing disclosed on Thursday.

The “MAGA Inc” Super-PAC reported raising over $68 million from donors in the previous month to the Federal Election Commission.

Reports has it that Timothy Mellon, who is part of the renowned Pittsburgh Mellon banking family, has contributed $50 million. An additional $10 million was donated by billionaires Liz and Dick Uihlein.

Notably, Mellon made his donation a day after Trump was indicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in the hush-money case in New York.

Mellon has also significantly supported independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., donating at least $20 million to the pro-Kennedy Super-PAC American Values.

Super-PACs, or independent political action committees, can collect unlimited funds to back a candidate’s campaign.

This donation has allowed Trump’s supporters to outpace those of President Joe Biden in campaign spending in recent weeks.

Mellon, who resides in Wyoming and is known for his low public profile, is an amateur pilot and has led investments in various transportation companies.

The Mellon family’s net worth is estimated at around $14.1 billion by Forbes.

In parallel, Reuters reported that billionaire Mike Bloomberg has contributed nearly $20 million to Biden-supporting Super-PACs, with $19 million going to the pro-Biden group Future Forward (FF PAC) and an additional $900,000 to the Biden Victory Fund.

The Biden campaign has not yet commented on these contributions.

In contrast, the pro-Kennedy Super-PAC reported receiving only about $280,000 last month, with no additional funds from Mellon.

  • Trump makes first visit to Capitol Hill since Jan 6 disturbance

Trump makes first visit to Capitol Hill since Jan 6 disturbance

Donald Trump made his first visit to Capitol Hill since the riot by his supporters at Congress three years ago, meeting with Republicans as he prepares for the upcoming presidential election in November.

During the visit, the former president emphasised unity within the party, pledging to resolve any remaining differences among Republicans. Later in the day, Trump also held discussions with a group of 200 corporate leaders.

Reacting to Trump’s return, Nancy Pelosi, the former Democratic House Speaker, issued a statement condemning him as the “instigator of an insurrection” who was now “returning to the scene of the crime.”

Trump’s visit occurred two weeks after his criminal conviction in New York for falsifying business records related to a hush-money trial.

Arriving at a Republican office building near the US Capitol on Thursday morning, Trump encountered a small group of protesters holding signs denouncing him for the alleged “failed coup” and asserting, “Democracy Forever, Trump Never.”

In a brief press conference later that afternoon, Trump expressed confidence in the party’s unity and pledged support to fellow Republicans, even those he may have disagreements with.

I’m with every one of you. I’ll be with you always,” he said. “If [a relationship] wasn’t fantastic, it gets worked out.
“We have one thing in mind, and that’s making our county great again.”
Trump did not take questions, but waved and gave a thumbs up at a small group of supporters shouting, “I love you.”
“Thank you,” he mouthed in response.

Following a meeting between Trump and House Republicans earlier in the day, House Speaker Mike Johnson said the former president “brought an extraordinary amount of energy and enthusiasm this morning.”.

“That is what we’re seeing in the party throughout the country,” Mr. Johnson said. “We believe we are going to win back the White House, and the Senate and grow the House majority.”

Matt Gaetz, a Florida Republican, described Trump’s meeting with House Republicans as a “pep-rally environment” for the former president.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, told reporters she saw nothing but “overwhelming support for Trump” among the party rank-and-file.

“I am glad to see Republicans here in Washington rallying around President Trump and his candidature as president,” she said.
Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, who has been openly critical of Trump in the past, called the visit “really positive.”.
“He got a lot of standing ovations,” Mr McConnell added.

In addition to Mr McConnell, two other Trump critics within the party—Utah Senator Mitt Romney and Louisiana’s Bill Cassidy – were at the meeting.
Senator Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican, described Trump as “extremely gracious” and “warm” to Senate Republicans.

“I guess I’ve just been here five years, and that’s probably the warmest meeting that I have been in with senators and Trump,” he told reporters.

Mr Hawley said that Trump spoke about abortion “quite a lot” at the meeting, where he reiterated his stance that voters should be the ones to decide on the issue.

  • Trump requests judge to remove gag order following verdict

Trump requests judge to remove gag order following verdict

Attorneys representing former President Donald Trump have requested that the judge in his New York hush-money case lift the gag order now that the trial has ended.

In a letter sent to Judge Juan Merchan on Monday, Trump’s legal team argued that the court’s previous concerns no longer warrant ongoing restrictions on Trump’s right to free speech.

Last Thursday, Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a payment intended to silence a pornographic actress who claims to have had a sexual encounter with him. The gag order, implemented on March 26, prohibited Trump from making public comments about witnesses, jurors, prosecutors, court staff, and their families.

Trump lawyers Todd Blanche and Emil Bove wrote in the letter to the judge that Trump should enjoy “unrestrained campaign advocacy”.

They say his case is “made even stronger” after his political opponent, US President Joe Biden, spoke publicly about the case.
They add that Trump is currently unable to defend himself against “continued public attacks” by witnesses for the prosecution, like his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen and the porn star, Stormy Daniels.

The letter also mentions that on June 27, Trump will take part in the first presidential debate against Joe Biden.
Judge Merchan will sentence Trump on July 11, which is four days before he is formally nominated by the Republican Party for president.

The judge has turned down his team’s several attempts in the past to have the gag order lifted.
Judge Merchan threatened to put Trump in jail if he continued to break the gag order and fined him $10,000 (£7,800) during the trial.

“The last thing I want to consider is jail,” Judge Merchan told him in court. “You are [the] former president and possibly the next president.”

“Your continued willful violation of the court’s order…constitutes a direct attack…and will not be allowed to continue,” he said. The order still permits Trump to criticise District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who brought the case against Trump, and Judge Merchan.

Prosecutors had argued that the gag order was needed to “protect the integrity of this criminal proceeding and avoid prejudice to the jury”.

On Friday, Trump told reporters that he believed the gag order should have expired at the conclusion of the trial, and that his lawyers were seeking clarity from Judge Merchan.

“I’m under a gag order, nasty gag order,” he said at Trump Tower after the verdict.
Referring to Cohen, a star witness for the prosecution, he said: “I’m not allowed to use his name because of the gag order.”
Also on Friday, Mr Biden referred to Trump as a “convicted felon”, telling reporters at the White House, “it’s literally driving him crazy.”

  • Donald Trump found guilty on all charges in historic criminal trial

Donald Trump found guilty on all charges in historic criminal trial

Donald Trump has been found guilty on all 34 charges of falsifying business records in his historic trial in New York.

This marks the first time a former or current US president has been convicted of a criminal offense.

He is set to be sentenced on July 11th, with the possibility of facing imprisonment, although legal analysts suggest a fine is more probable.

Trump denounces the verdict as a “disgrace” and criticizes Judge Merchan, who presided over the proceedings.

This ruling coincides with his campaign to defeat Joe Biden in the upcoming election and reclaim the presidency.

During the six-week trial, 22 witnesses testified, including Stormy Daniels, whose alleged affair with Trump was central to the case.

Trump was accused of concealing a payment from his former attorney to silence the ex-adult film star just before the 2016 election.

After deliberating for two days, the 12 jurors reached a unanimous decision.

  • Judge in Trump’s case involving sensitive documents cancels May trial

Judge in Trump’s case involving sensitive documents cancels May trial

The judge in Florida handling the case against ex-president Donald Trump has canceled the trial that was supposed to start on May 20. The trial has no new date yet.

Judge Aileen Cannon from the US District had to decide about the case. There are still some problems to solve and Trump is also on trial in a different case in Manhattan for hush money payments during the 2016 US presidential election. The lawyers representing him in the federal case in Florida are also working on his case in New York.

Cannon said that it would be a bad idea to set a new trial date now. This makes it even more uncertain if federal prosecutors can bring Trump to trial before the election in November.

Trump is accused of keeping secret documents at his Florida home and not letting the FBI have them. He may face a lot of criminal charges for this. He says he didn’t do it and is not guilty.

Trump is dealing with four legal cases as he tries to become president again, but it’s unsure if the other three cases will go to trial before the election, aside from the one in New York.

The highest court in the US is considering whether Trump can be charged with a crime for trying to change the result of the 2020 election. This is different from another case where special counsel Jack Smith is accusing Trump of the same thing. The lawyers in Fulton County, Georgia have filed another case about trying to change the election, but we don’t know when it will go to trial.

  • Donald Trump attacks judge over gag order in criminal case involving hush money in New York

Donald Trump attacks judge over gag order in criminal case involving hush money in New York

Donald Trump got angry at a New York judge because the judge stopped him from talking about certain people related to his upcoming trial.

The ex-president said on social media that the gag order was not allowed by the law, not in line with American values and not in accordance with the Constitution. He mentioned the name of the judge, Juan M. Merchan was trying to stop me from speaking out against the use of law enforcement as a weapon by my Democratic rivals.

The likely Republican candidate for president criticized Merchan’s daughter, who works for the Democrats, for sharing a picture of him in jail on social media. Loren Merchan’s account on X, which used to be called Twitter, has a picture of Trump in prison as its profile picture. Loren Merchan’s company had connected to that account in a social media post before.

The gag order doesn’t stop people from talking about Merchan or his family, and it also doesn’t prevent Trump from criticizing the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is prosecuting him.

We left messages asking for comments from Judge Merchan, Loren Merchan, and a court spokesperson. Bragg’s office said they wouldn’t comment on the gag order.

Trump posted on Truth Social for the first time after Merchan issued a gag order. This happened the day after he set the trial to start on April 15th. Hours before the judge made a decision, Trump called Merchan a “very distinguished looking man” and a “true and certified Trump Hater” in a post on Truth Social.

Merchan’s request for a gag order was approved because Trump has a history of making mean and threatening comments about people involved in his legal cases. The gag order is meant to be very specific and limited.

While it wasn’t included in the gag order, Merchan mentioned Trump’s different remarks about him as a type of his speech. The limitations are the same as the ones put in place by a court in Trump’s election interference case in Washington, D. C

Trump’s lawyers did not want to be restricted from speaking, saying it would violate his right to free speech. Trump said the same thing in a post on Truth Social.

Merchan didn’t want to stop Trump from speaking out, because he used to be the president and is now running for office. He wanted to make sure Trump could still defend himself openly. However, as the trial gets closer, he realized that it is more important to make sure the case is fair than to worry about freedom of speech. He said that Trump’s words have made people afraid and made it necessary to have extra security to protect the people he talks about and look into any threats.

Trump posted on Truth Social saying that the Judge’s daughter can post pictures of her wishing to put him in jail, the Manhattan DA can say lies about him, and the Judge violates the law and the constitution. He thinks it’s not fair that he can’t talk about the attacks against him and people trying to ruin his life and stop him from winning the 2024 Presidential Election. He believes he is in the lead for the election.

“Maybe the Judge doesn’t like me because his daughter works to hurt Trump and every time he rules against me, her company makes more money,” Trump said. “How is this okay. ”

Trump said that President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland and their supporters are targeting and watching him all over the country, trying to punish him, even though he claims he has not done anything wrong.

The gag order stops Trump from talking or telling others to talk about the hush-money trial jurors and possible witnesses, like his former lawyer Michael Cohen and porn star Stormy Daniels. It also says you can’t say things that bother or bother the court’s staff, the prosecution team, or their families.

Trump could get in trouble for not following the rules of the court. He might have to pay money or go to jail.

Trump’s hush-money case is about claims that he incorrectly recorded payments to Cohen, who was his personal lawyer, as legal fees for his company. In reality, the payments were for Cohen’s efforts to hide negative stories about Trump during the 2016 campaign. This means that Cohen gave $130,000 to Daniels so that she wouldn’t tell anyone about her saying she had a sexual encounter with Trump a while back.

Trump said he didn’t do the bad things he was accused of last April. He was accused of lying about his business records, which is a serious crime. He could go to jail for up to four years, but it’s not for sure if he will actually get jail time if he is found guilty. He says he didn’t have sex with Daniels, and his lawyers said the money paid to Cohen was for legal fees, not to hide anything.

  • Nikki Haley easily defeated by Donald Trump in Michigan primary

Nikki Haley easily defeated by Donald Trump in Michigan primary

Donald Trump has emerged as the top contender for the Republican presidential nomination after securing a comfortable win in the Michigan primary. With nearly all the votes counted, Mr. Trump won 68%, while Nikki Haley only got 27%.

Ms Haley hasn’t won any races in the contest to choose the party’s candidate for the November election. She promised to keep fighting and believes that Mr. Trump can’t beat Joe Biden in the presidential election.

As the results started coming in on Tuesday night, the ex-UN ambassador told the media “We need to save our country. ”

However, she admitted that it is very likely that the Republican party now supports Mr. Trump’s views instead of her own.

Ms Haley promised to continue seeking votes, but it seems more and more certain that there will be another election in November between Mr. Trump and President Biden.

Miss Haley’s loss to Mr. Trump in Michigan is her fifth loss in a row in the primary elections. Ms Haley lost to a 77-year-old in South Carolina over the weekend.

Tuesday’s defeat is another setback for her hopes of becoming president. Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP), a group started by the wealthy Koch brothers, said they won’t give money to her campaign anymore after she didn’t do well in South Carolina.

However, her campaign said that the results and the percentage of Michigan Republican voters who did not support the former president are a warning for Trump in November.

On Monday night, Mr. Trump said in a statement that his campaign won by an even bigger margin in Michigan than they expected, even though he didn’t go there to campaign.

He also said that car factory workers, who are a big group of voters in the state, “support us”. In the past month, a union called United Automobile Workers, which represents 400,000 workers, supported President Biden’s campaign for re-election.

A person can become the Republican nominee by winning 1,215 delegates in state-level elections.

Most of the delegates in Michigan will be given out on Saturday, during the state’s party convention. Only 16 people are chosen by the first vote.

Next week, there will be more delegates available for the candidates from both parties during Super Tuesday.

No one is really competing against Mr. Biden to become the Democratic candidate.

Even though he easily won the Michigan primary, many people voted “uncommitted” in the Democratic contest as a protest against the White House’s support for Israel during the war in Gaza.

  • South Carolina primary: Nikki Haley loses to Donald Trump handily in her own state

South Carolina primary: Nikki Haley loses to Donald Trump handily in her own state

Donald Trump is getting closer to being chosen as the Republican presidential candidate after winning big against Nikki Haley in South Carolina.

The ex-president won the state where his primary opponent lives by 20 points. This is his fourth win in a row.

As he was happy, Mr. Trump didn’t talk about Ms. Haley, who promised to keep running. Instead, he planned to focus on the election in November.

It is likely that there will be a rematch with the person who comes after him in the White House.

“We are going to talk to Joe Biden face to face,” he told his supporters just after the US media announced him as the winner on Saturday night. “He’s ruining our country – and we’re going to tell Joe to leave because he’s fired. ”

Mr Trump praised his party for being “united” after the result on Saturday, and said that there has never been a feeling of togetherness like this before. I have never seen the Republican Party so together.

He changed his response compared to last month’s primary in New Hampshire. He was angry at Ms. Haley for acting like she won in her speech.

Ms Haley, who used to be governor of South Carolina for two terms, told her opponent congratulations on winning in her speech.

She said she wouldn’t give up, even though she only received about 40% of the vote, she thought it was a decent amount.

She said a lot of people who vote for Republicans want someone else to choose from. She also said her campaign is not about her wanting to be in politics.

“I won’t stop fighting even though most Americans don’t like Donald Trump or Joe Biden,” she said.

She said she will keep running in the race until at least Super Tuesday on March 5th, when voters in 16 states will vote on the same day.

“I always keep my promises,” said the ex UN ambassador. “We are going to Michigan tomorrow and then to the Super Tuesday states all next week. ”

The Trump campaign said that Ms Haley is not thinking clearly and is not in touch with reality. They don’t think her efforts are important.

The Trump campaign believes that the former president will get enough delegates to officially win the nomination in the next month.

Ms Haley is not sure what to do next because her opponent has a lot more support from delegates and is expected to win in future elections.

The Haley campaign is still going strong because of the support from wealthy donors. She keeps getting money even though it’s hard for her.

In January, Ms. Haley raised $16. 5 million by herself, according to campaign officials. That was her highest amount for one month yet, and a lot more than Mr.

  • Donald Trump wins Nevada caucuses with devastating ease

Donald Trump wins Nevada caucuses with devastating ease

Donald Trump won by a lot in the Nevada Republican caucus.

The only other person on the voting list was Ryan Binkley, who works as a pastor and businessman.

This means that Mr. Trump will get all 26 delegates from Nevada. Delegates are used by political parties to choose their candidate for president.

Media first report showed that the ex-president got 99% of the votes.

Donald Trump said at a party in Las Vegas that if we win this state, we will easily win the election in November.

Donald Trump has won in three states – Nevada, Iowa and New Hampshire. This means he is likely to be the Republican candidate in the November election.

He also won a vote for the Republican party in the US Virgin Islands, a place that is not a fully separate part of the United States.

Donald Trump’s main opponent, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, decided not to participate in the Nevada caucus and instead take part in the state’s primary vote.

There were two different votes in Nevada because the Republican Party and the Democratic-controlled state government couldn’t agree.

Nikki Haley lost in the primary election on Tuesday. Voters chose “none of these candidates” instead.

However, the outcome was meaningful because the Republican party in the state decided that only the caucus results would be used to choose the presidential candidate.

Nikki Haley’s group said they didn’t join the meeting because they believed it was unfair to Trump.

The people in Nevada were confused and frustrated by the situation.

The state’s Republican governor didn’t like it and said all the voters should have only one ballot.

The election in Nevada will be closely fought in November, even though we already know the result of the caucus. The vote will likely be between Donald Trump and Joe Biden again like in 2020.

Mr Trump will go to South Carolina next, where he will compete against Nikki Haley again.

Even though she lost three times, she promised to keep fighting. She believes that Republican supporters want someone else besides Donald Trump to be their candidate. She also thinks that people want a real election, not just someone being chosen without a real contest.

  • Donald Trump’s delaying tactics continue to work despite his lost immunity appeal

Donald Trump’s delaying tactics continue to work despite his lost immunity appeal

Donald Trump faced a defeat in court, but still managed to achieve some victories.

A court decided that Mr. Trump can be charged with a crime for things he did while he was president. The decision took a long time, which means that Mr. Trump’s trial for the attack on the US Capitol in January 2021 has been delayed.

Mr Trump didn’t get new powers while he was president, and the court date has been taken off the calendar.

And we don’t know when it might come back.

This is in line with the ex-president’s plan to slow down the legal process whenever he can, said Neama Rahmani, who used to work for the government as a lawyer.

Mr Rahmani said Trump wants to wait until after the November election for the case to be solved. “If a sitting president wins control of the White House, they can’t be prosecuted. ”

If Trump’s legal team wants to delay things, there are some steps they could take.

They might ask all 11 judges on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals to look at this case again and think about it. It’s not very likely to work because six out of the eight judges would have to agree, and it’s rare for them to do that.

The court says the case about what happened on 6 January can keep going while they think about the request. Maybe they want to avoid waiting more.

However, Trump has other choices he can make.

He can ask the Supreme Court to make a decision about whether to review his case or not. They can choose to delay the trial on 6 January for now.

It seems like the Trump team will ask the Supreme Court for help, because the appeals court gave them until February 12 to get ready.

That’s where there are more chances for the trial to be delayed or for it to continue as planned.

If the highest court doesn’t agree to hear the case, the election interference case could go back to its usual schedule. If that happens, it’s almost certain that the trial will happen at the earliest by election day.

The judge in charge of the trial might decide to put the case on hold until after Americans vote in November.

“Professor David Super, who teaches constitutional law at Georgetown University, said that the Supreme Court probably won’t agree with the former president’s legal arguments because of past court decisions and American legal customs. ”

“He told the media that in Mr Trump’s opinion, the legal power of US presidents would be very similar to that of monarchs. ”

However, if there is a delay and the Supreme Court rules against him, it would be another victory for the former president. If he wins the election in November, his legal problems at the federal level might go away.

After he becomes president, he could tell his Justice Department to stop the cases, or he could pardon himself.

Mr Trump starting his second term in office would be really impressive. However, it would be quite extraordinary for the previous president to swear in on the Capitol steps, where his supporters had protested four years earlier because he lost the election.

  • Donald Trump uses his court disputes political showpiece

Donald Trump uses his court disputes political showpiece

Donald Trump went to a court in New York for a fraud case involving his company, and he wanted to speak his opinions on Thursday.

The judge said the ex-president couldn’t talk in court, but then changed their mind and let him speak for a little bit.

He used the platform to say that the city’s attorney general hates him. Then, he walked out of the courtroom and told reporters that the case was not fair.

But that was not sufficient. He held a news conference in a building he owns at 40 Wall Street, which he is accused of lying about its value.

Mr Trump is going to court like it’s a campaign rally, mixing his legal case with his campaign for president as the US election heats up.

He says that the legal problems he is facing in different places are all part of a plan by Joe Biden, the Democrats, and the White House to prevent him from winning the 2024 election.

Thursday’s event in New York came right after another event in Washington earlier in the week. The ex-president went to a court with his lawyers to say he shouldn’t be tried for trying to change the 2020 election.

While other people running for president in the Republican party are going around Iowa before the first vote on Monday, the former president says he is being forced to stop campaigning by the courts.

“I have to go to court two times this week instead of campaigning because of false accusations in New York and Washington DC,” he wrote in an email asking for donations.

Actually, he didn’t have to go to both of these meetings. He chose to go to two different courtrooms on purpose because he thinks it helps his campaign when people see him in court.

He is correct. The candidate leading the Republican party has turned his many legal issues into a good thing for his campaign. At rallies, press conferences, and in messages to voters and donors, he says he’s being unfairly targeted by political prosecutions in an attempt to prevent him from returning to the White House.

He tells his supporters that the charges against him are not something to be ashamed of, but something to be proud of. He says that the legal problems he’s dealing with are not just about him, but also about the many people in America who support him. One thing he often says in his political speeches is, “They aren’t trying to get rid of me. ” They are trying to catch you. I’m just blocking them.

The 91 criminal charges against him would have ended the campaign of any other candidate. But for him, it has actually helped to bring his supporters into the fight with him.

The Trump campaign has a clear goal and reason for what they’re doing, as it seems they will probably have another election battle with President Joe Biden in November. Trump’s legal troubles also help make sure his campaign has enough money to run smoothly.

He only started to gain support for his re-election after he was charged with a crime in New York last April.

Fundraising emails were sent soon after the news of charges connected to paying hush money to Stormy Daniels, a former porn star, came out in the media. Over $4 million (or 3. 1 million pounds) was raised in the next day.

After he was charged again in June for breaking the law by mishandling secret documents, he received a lot of money again. His campaign was reported to have raised $6. 6 million in just a few days.

When he was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia, in August for trying to change the state’s 2020 election results, he had become really good at making a show out of getting charged with crimes.

The campaign brought TV teams with him on his private plane and in his car to show his every move on TV.

This week in Washington, he said that he is being prosecuted because he is winning in the opinion polls against President Biden. Most people think the race is very close.

“I think they believe this is how they will try to win, but that’s not how it works,” said Mr. He said there would be chaos in the country if he couldn’t be re-elected because of the criminal cases against him.

The White House is fighting back. President Biden gave a big speech on January 6th and said that Mr. Trump is a big danger to American democracy.

This argument is a big part of the Democrat’s campaign. It reminds people of the attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters three years ago. The Democrats are trying to get people to focus on their positive message about the US economy and the fact that inflation is going down.

But Trump has already changed the argument for his supporters. In Trump’s opinion, Mr. Biden is a threat to democracy.

However, the feelings, especially of people who are not affiliated with a political party, may change once the trials that Mr. Trump is going through actually start.

The 6th of January is very dangerous for the ex-president. Voters will learn all the details about how Mr Trump tried to stay in power after he lost the 2020 election. Surveys show that being found guilty in the case, and the possibility of going to prison, could hurt someone’s chances in politics.

But Trump has a plan for that as well. Keep putting off the trial with as many requests and movements as you can, so that it doesn’t start until after the election on 5 November.

If he goes back to being president, he might tell his department to not pursue the cases against him, or if he’s found guilty, he might try to forgive himself.

  • US court hears historic case involving Trump immunity

US court hears historic case involving Trump immunity

A very important court case to decide if Donald Trump can be charged with a crime will be held in Washington on Tuesday.

The lawyers for the ex-president, who is a Republican, will say that being president protects him from being accused of election fraud in 2020.

Mr Trump, who said he will go, is accused by a special lawyer of trying to change Joe Biden’s win.

The result of this hearing could greatly affect what happens to Mr. Trump in the future.

His lawyers are using the same argument to defend him in another group of election charges he has in Georgia.

It is likely that this problem will go to the US Supreme Court during the 2024 election, where Mr. Trump is expected to win the Republican nomination.

Long legal arguments about whether he has immunity could make his criminal trials take longer than expected, possibly even after the November election when he will likely be up against Democratic President Joe Biden.

For many years, the ex-president has used presidential immunity to avoid facing civil and criminal cases against him.

The US Constitution does not say that the president is immune from lawsuits, but courts have usually agreed that government officials should be protected from being sued.

There is no past law that says what should happen if a president is charged with a crime.

In legal papers before this court date, the special lawyer prosecuting him, Jack Smith, told the court that if Mr Trump is not allowed to be charged, it could mean that presidents can break the law to stay in office.

The judge said being president doesn’t mean you can never go to jail.

On Monday, in a post on social media, Mr. Trump said that he was not trying to get elected when he questioned the results of the election against Mr. He said he was just doing his job as the president by pointing out voter fraud.

Three judges in Washington DC will talk and listen to arguments at the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, and then make a decision later on.

The courtroom is a few blocks from the US Capitol. His fans stormed the Capitol to prevent Joe Biden from being confirmed as president in January 2021.

Mr Trump’s lawyers will use his Senate acquittal for his actions before the violence to support their case.

“His appeal document says the president can’t be charged for a crime if the US Senate already said he didn’t do it. ” The accusation against President Trump is not legal or allowed by the constitution. It needs to be rejected.

A survey by CBS News shows that most Americans think that Mr. Trump should not be shielded from being prosecuted for things he did while he was president.

The trial for the election fraud case is supposed to happen on 4 March, but it is paused because the appeals court, which has two judges picked by Democratic presidents and one by a Republican, hasn’t made a decision yet.

No matter what the judges decide, most people think the case will go to the US Supreme Court. Conservatives have more judges there, with 6 out of 9.

Last month, the highest court said no to Mr. Smith’s request to speed up a decision on Mr. Trump’s immunity claim.

Last month, the Supreme Court said it will hear Mr. Trump’s appeal against Colorado for not allowing him to be on the ballot because of a rarely used part of the US constitution.

  • Implications for 2024 as Colorado, Maine disqualify Trump from presidential candidacy

Implications for 2024 as Colorado, Maine disqualify Trump from presidential candidacy

Donald Trump faces a significant setback in his 2024 presidential ambitions as Colorado and Maine have barred him from running as a presidential candidate. This development raises questions about the upcoming general election and its potential impact.

Trump, widely viewed as the leading Republican contender, has seen his campaign rocked by these two states’ decisions, which his team has vehemently criticized as “atrocious” and akin to “stealing an election.”

In Maine, the decision to declare Trump ineligible stemmed from his alleged involvement in the Capitol riot. The state’s Secretary of State, Democrat Shenna Bellows, issued a comprehensive 34-page ruling invoking Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which disqualifies individuals involved in “insurrection or rebellion” from holding federal office.

Bellows’ decision, while contested by Trump’s campaign as politically driven, was defended as legally sound and necessary to uphold Maine’s electoral laws.

Meanwhile, Colorado’s Supreme Court made a parallel determination, marking the first instance of Section 3 being applied to a presidential candidate. They found “clear and convincing evidence” of Trump’s engagement in insurrection.

Despite these rulings, the fate of Trump’s candidacy in these states remains in limbo. Both decisions are temporarily on hold, pending appeals, leaving uncertain whether Trump’s name will feature on the Republican primary ballots in these states.

The rulings, particularly Maine’s, which resulted from a unique constitutional provision, reflect a contentious political landscape. They also highlight the complexities of electoral law and the profound implications of the 14th Amendment in contemporary American politics.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on the Supreme Court for a possible nationwide resolution, with significant implications for Trump’s political future and the broader American electoral scene.

The lengthy 213-page ruling said Mr Trump’s actions in the build-up to 6 January 2021 did constitute insurrection.

His lawyers had argued in Colorado that he should not be disqualified because he did not bear responsibility for the riot.

They also noted that Mr Trump has not been charged with inciting insurrection.

Can Donald Trump still stand in the 2024 election?

Yes. These rulings only apply to Colorado and Maine respectively.

Hours after Maine’s ruling, California’s elected secretary of state, a Democrat, ignored calls to remove Mr Trump from the state’s Republican primary ballot – saying it was a matter for the courts. Michigan’s top court this week declined to hear a case seeking to disqualify Mr Trump.

Mr Trump is far ahead of his Republican rivals so can still win his party’s nomination without competing in Colorado or Maine.

In both Colorado and Maine, Joe Biden won against Donald Trump in 2020 by a wide margin, and it is unlikely that Mr Trump will need to win the states to enter the White House once more.

    What happens next?

It is now likely that the US Supreme Court will intervene to offer a ruling that would apply nationally.

That’s because the Colorado Republican Party has appealed the state’s ruling to the Supreme Court.

The top US court will decide whether to take up the case in the new year, but it is not clear when.

Mr Trump’s name will remain on the ballot in Colorado until the Supreme Court makes a ruling or, in a less likely outcome, decides not to take up the case.

The Maine ruling is also on hold pending a legal appeal in the state’s courts. Any decision by the US Supreme Court could supersede this and apply nationally.

The US justices will have to consider the legal arguments which will take time, but they will be under pressure to decide before the Colorado and Maine primaries on 5 March, the so-called Super Tuesday when the greatest number of states hold ballots.

The balance of that court has shifted to more conservative in recent years, thanks in part to three justices who were appointed by Mr Trump when he was president.

Where do legal experts stand on this?

There are two key legal issues to consider.

One is whether Mr Trump’s actions in the build-up to the storming of the US Capitol amount to insurrection.

The other is whether the office holders that Section 3 was aimed at barring should include the president.

A lower court in Colorado has already ruled that Mr Trump engaged in insurrection but the law did not apply to the office of the presidency.

The Colorado Supreme Court disagreed, and top legal scholars are divided on whether this law should apply to Mr Trump.

Lawyers for Mr Trump dispute that he engaged in insurrection and argue his remarks to supporters on the day of the 2021 riot were protected by his right to free speech.

    What is the political impact?

Mr Trump’s campaign said the latest ruling is another example of the justice system being used to persecute him.

But there could be wider implications for the general election.

Dozens of other US states have similar lawsuits trying to bar Mr Trump from running, and the decisions in Colorado and Maine could make it more likely some of them succeed.

If Mr Trump was stopped from running in a state where he and Mr Biden are neck-and-neck, that could be critical in a presidential race that is expected to

  • Maine becomes second state to ban Trump from ballot in 2024

Maine becomes second state to ban Trump from ballot in 2024

Maine’s Chief Election Official, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, has determined that former President Donald Trump is ineligible to run for president in the upcoming election in the state. This decision is based on the constitutional clause concerning insurrection.

The central reason for this ruling is Trump’s alleged involvement in the events leading to the Capitol riot in January 2021. With this decision, Maine joins Colorado in prohibiting Trump’s candidacy on their ballots.

This development puts the spotlight on the US Supreme Court, as it is expected to ultimately decide the matter. While Colorado leans Democratic, Maine’s more balanced political landscape makes this decision more impactful for Trump, who is currently the Republican front-runner.

The Trump campaign has announced plans to challenge the Maine decision in state court. In the meantime, the decision remains on hold due to ongoing legal proceedings.

Contrasting Maine’s decision, California has confirmed Trump’s presence on their Republican primary ballot. Courts in other states, including Michigan and Minnesota, have also recently rejected attempts to prevent Trump from running.

Central to these disputes is the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, which prohibits anyone engaged in insurrection or rebellion from holding federal office. Secretary Bellows’ ruling, extending over 34 pages, argues that Trump’s actions surrounding the January 6, 2021, events constitute a violation of this amendment.

Despite her decision, Bellows insists it is not politically motivated but rather based on law and her duty to uphold election integrity in Maine. She expressed her hope for the Supreme Court to provide a nationwide resolution to this issue.

Trump, who faces other legal challenges unrelated to the insurrection accusation, has seen his campaign and Republican competitors criticize Maine’s ruling. Campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung described Bellows’ decision as “election interference” and announced immediate legal action against it.

This development has sparked broader political debate, with figures like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy expressing concerns about its implications for democracy and the electoral process.

Legal experts and commentators anticipate that this issue, centering on the interpretation and application of the 14th Amendment, will ultimately be settled by the Supreme Court, potentially shaping the framework for future presidential candidacies.

  • Donald Trump disqualified from 2024 ballot in Colorado

Donald Trump disqualified from 2024 ballot in Colorado

Colorado’s Supreme Court has declared that Donald Trump is ineligible to run for president in the state in 2024, citing a constitutional insurrection clause.

The 4-3 decision stated that Trump engaged in an insurrection during the US Capitol riot nearly three years ago. While this ruling applies specifically to Colorado’s primary election on March 5, it could impact the general election in the state next November.

Trump’s campaign plans to appeal to the US Supreme Court, deeming the decision “completely flawed.” This marks the first use of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to disqualify a presidential candidate.

The ruling is only applicable within Colorado, contrasting with failed attempts in New Hampshire, Minnesota, and Michigan.

The justices wrote in their ruling: “We do not reach these conclusions lightly. We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us.

“We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”

The recent ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court marks a reversal of a prior decision by a Colorado judge. Initially, the judge ruled that the 14th Amendment’s insurrection ban did not apply to presidents, as the section did not explicitly mention them.

However, the same judge concluded that Donald Trump participated in an insurrection during the US Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. The new decision by the Colorado Supreme Court, effective from January 4, 2024, on the eve of the state’s presidential primary ballot deadline, deems Trump ineligible to run for president in Colorado.

Steven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, called the ruling “completely flawed” and lambasted the justices, who were all appointed by Democratic governors.

“Democrat Party leaders are in a state of paranoia over the growing, dominant lead President Trump has amassed in the polls,” Mr Cheung said in a statement.

“They have lost faith in the failed Biden presidency and are now doing everything they can to stop the American voters from throwing them out of office next November.”

Mr Cheung added that Mr Trump’s legal team would “swiftly file an appeal” to the US Supreme Court, where conservatives hold a 6 to 3 majority.

    • The legal bid to take Trump off ballot, explained

Representatives for Mr Biden’s re-election bid declined to comment on the Colorado ruling. But a senior Democrat affiliated with the campaign told CBS News, the BBC’s US partner, that the decision would help Democrats by supporting their argument that the US Capitol riot was an attempted insurrection.

The source said it would also aid Democrats in showcasing “the stark differences” between Mr Trump and Mr Biden.

Republican lawmakers condemned the decision, including House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson, who called it “a thinly veiled partisan attack”.

“Regardless of political affiliation, every citizen registered to vote should not be denied the right to support our former president and the individual who is the leader in every poll of the Republican primary,” he said.

On the campaign trail Mr Trump’s Republican primary rivals also assailed the ruling, with Vivek Ramaswamy pledging to withdraw his name from the ballot if Mr Trump’s candidacy is not reinstated.

Mr Trump, speaking at a campaign event in Iowa on Tuesday night, did not address the ruling. But a fundraising email sent by his campaign to supporters said “this is how dictatorships are born”.

The Colorado Republican Party also responded, saying it would withdraw from the state’s primary process if the ruling was allowed to stand.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (Crew), the group that brought the case, welcomed the ruling.

“It is not only historic and justified, but is necessary to protect the future of democracy in our country,” the group’s president, Noah Bookbinder, said in a statement.

The 14th Amendment was ratified after the American Civil War. Section 3 was intended to block secessionists from returning to previous government roles once southern states re-joined the Union.

It was used against Confederate president Jefferson Davis and his vice-president Alexander Stephens, both of whom had served in Congress. It has seldom been invoked since.

Mr Trump lost the state of Colorado by a wide margin in the last presidential election. But if courts in more competitive states followed suit on Tuesday’s ruling, Mr Trump’s White House bid could face serious problems.

During a one-week trial in Colorado last month, the former president’s lawyers argued he should not be disqualified because he did not bear responsibility for the US Capitol riot.

But in its ruling, the Colorado Supreme Court majority disagreed.

They said Mr Trump’s messages before the riot were a “call to his supporters to fight and… his supporters responded to that call”.

Carlos Samour, one of three justices who dissented, argued the government could not “deprive someone of the right to hold public office without due process of law”.

“Even if we are convinced that a candidate committed horrible acts in the past – dare I say, engaged in insurrection – there must be procedural due process before we can declare that individual disqualified from holding public office,” he wrote.

Mr Trump is facing four criminal cases, including one federal and one state case in Georgia related to his alleged election subversion efforts.

  • Nikki Haley makes her case for challenging President Trump

Nikki Haley makes her case for challenging President Trump

While making campaign appearances in Iowa, Nikki Haley shares her personal music with tiny but gathering crowds.

Fans are treated to songs by Queen, Abba, and Pat Benatar while they wait for her to make an appearance.

The music is in the middle, it’s easy to listen to, and it creates a certain mood. Ms Haley is trying to appeal to a large group of people by presenting herself as a moderate and traditional conservative candidate.

The Iowa caucuses will happen in five weeks and will be the first test of how popular the Republican candidates are.

The Iowa caucuses are a way for each state to choose who they want to be their party nominee in the election. The main winner is officially declared at the Republican National Convention (RNC) – a major political event in July 2024.

The results in Iowa can either make or break political campaigns. Haley, along with other Republicans running for office, is traveling across the state to talk to as many voters as she can.

She wants to give tax breaks to small businesses and people who are middle class. She says she will make the government smaller and reduce the amount of money it owes. And she is saying that it would put America’s safety at risk to lessen help for either Israel or Ukraine.

It’s clear to see how this campaign could have helped her win the nomination in the past.

Can it win in a Republican Party changed by Donald Trump. The people Trump has attracted to the party hate the type of politics Haley is promoting.

At a “Faith and Family” event at Dordt University, she was joined on stage by her 23-year-old daughter Rena. Other candidates had their husbands or wives with them, but Ms. Haley’s husband is away in Africa with the National Guard for a whole year.

The local Republican congressman, Randy Feenstra, interviewed Ms. Haley on stage. Haley said that we can’t beat Democratic disorder with Republican disorder, and that’s what Donald Trump brings.

The university auditorium was crowded on a very cold Saturday morning. Iowa voters are the first to vote and take it very seriously. Many want to see each candidate in person before deciding who to vote for.

Many people I talked to later were impressed with Ms. Haley’s past job as governor of South Carolina and her calm, professional behavior.

Braeden Nydim said he couldn’t decide between Ms. Haley and Ron DeSantis. He said he thinks Ms. Haley is very calm and confident. His wife, Emma Nydim, believes that Ms Haley is good at being fair and not taking sides with any political party.

Stacey Harmelink voted for Mr Trump in 2016 and 2020, but after meeting Ms Haley at a local event, she decided to become a volunteer for her campaign. “I notice that she brings people together, and I think our country doesn’t need more division with Donald Trump. ”

But those are the opinions of people who are searching for a different option instead of Mr. Only a small number of his followers showed up, and they still have the same opinions as before.

Doyle Turner said he thinks Ms Haley is too much like the people already in power. I don’t think the same as her about Ukraine or the environment. Please simplify the following text: “The car’s intricate system of gears and pistons ensures that the engine operates smoothly and efficiently. ”

Ms Haley’s campaign got a big boost from important donors who want to move on from Mr. The group called Americans for Prosperity Action, which was started by Charles and David Koch, is giving her a lot of money to try to make her the only candidate against Trump.

Emily Seidel, a top adviser to Americans for Prosperity Action, said that Ms. Haley would get votes from independent and moderate people that Trump can’t get. She also said that the country is being torn apart by extreme views on both sides.

She said that we need a leader with experience and good judgment to save our country from a crisis. Nikki Haley is the leader.

A new survey in the Wall Street Journal said that in a one-on-one competition, Ms. Haley would win over Joe Biden by 17 points.

Other surveys say that people might be more likely to vote for her than Mr Trump in the upcoming election in November. However, when Republican voters decide who they want as their presidential candidate, the polls indicate that the former president is far ahead of Ms. Haley and all other contenders.

As Haley takes pictures with happy fans after a small meeting in Clear Lake, Iowa, it seems like she is doing really well in the competition for second place.

The little girls who are getting their pictures taken with her really want to believe that she will become the first female president of America. The song “Don’t You Think it’s Time We Put a Woman in the White House” by Sheryl Crow is playing loudly as encouragement. But it seems like a very unlikely possibility.

But Trump has to go to court for many criminal cases, so we don’t know if people will still support him. If he decides to leave the race, Ms. Haley is in a good position to take his place and be chosen by her party.

  • Mar-a-Lago: trial of Trump over fraud revolves around billion-dollar question

Mar-a-Lago: trial of Trump over fraud revolves around billion-dollar question

Donald Trump says Mar-a-Lago is very valuable, like the famous painting Mona Lisa. But people are trying to figure out exactly how much it’s worth in a trial that could harm his family’s business.

It’s a number that everyone disagrees on – from $18 million to over $1 billion.

During the 10-week trial in New York, the lawyers arguing for and against Mr. Trump have debated how much his private club in Florida is worth, and whether the way it was valued is honest or fraud.

Mr Trump, his two grown-up sons, and the Trump Organization are being accused of making their assets, like Trump Tower and golf resorts, seem more valuable than they really are. They did this so they could borrow money at lower interest rates, to the sum of $2 billion.

Mr Trump’s businesses saved over $150 million over 10 years because of the low rates, said New York Attorney General Letitia James. She wants to stop him from doing business in the state.

The trial is almost finished, but Judge Arthur Engoron, who is a Democrat, said before it started that the financial documents in the case clearly have fake values that the defendants used in their business.

“He said it’s not real, it’s all made up,” he decided, and held them responsible for lying.

Mr Trump has asked for another judge to look at the decision before the trial starts. The judge (no jury in this trial) has to decide on six more fraud charges. They all need proof that the person meant to commit the fraud.

The former president was supposed to go back to court on Monday but said on social media on Sunday night that he didn’t have anything else to say about the case because he thinks it’s just for politics.

Again, he was most upset about the accusation that he made Mar-a-Lago seem more valuable than it actually is. He said they valued it at $18,000,000, when it is really worth 50 to 100 times that amount.

The white elephant that no one could buy.

The actual worth of Mar-a-Lago is not easy to understand. The old Palm Beach property has rules that say it can only be used as a club for members only.

The land cannot be split up and it costs a lot to keep the estate that was built in 1927 for Marjorie Merriweather Post, a rich and famous businesswoman.

This happened in the 1990s when Mr. Trump said that Mar-a-Lago was too expensive to keep as a private home. He called it a “white elephant” and said it was very hard to sell.

He wanted to make it a private club so that he could use the expensive fees that members have to pay to help take care of the place and keep it in good condition.

Rosalind Clarke, a real estate agent from Palm Beach who has been working since the 1980s and was once president of the Palm Beach Board of Realtors, told BBC News that the issue with pricing Mar-a-Lago was due to certain limitations.

Ms Clarke said that the price is determined by how much money the club makes, not by how much the land is worth. She said that if there were no rules about what can be done with the property, it would be worth a lot more money.

From 2011 to 2021, people say Trump acted like Mar-a-Lago didn’t have any rules about how it could be used.

What value did Trump put on financial papers?

Before the trial, Judge Engoron said that the Palm Beach County Assessor valued Mar-a-Lago at between $18 million and $27. 6 million for taxes.

On the other hand, Mr Trump said Mar-a-Lago was worth $426. 5 million to $612 million, which is way more than what the assessor thought.

Real estate experts say that the tax assessor’s value is usually less than what a property could actually sell for, so it’s not a direct comparison.

The New York attorney general says that the Trump business made the numbers look higher by comparing them to the prices of similar properties, but those properties did not have the same restrictions on them.

The attorney general says that the Trump Organization committed fraud by ignoring deed restrictions at Mar-a-Lago and pretending it was just a private home.

A house suitable for a very important person.

The most important part of the lawsuit is within all of these numbers. Trump spends time with wealthy and powerful people at Mar-a-Lago, even though he owns many other properties.

That’s where he lives. This is where the old president would hang out when he wasn’t at the White House.

In one of the fancy bathrooms made of marble, federal special counsel Jack Smith says Mr. Trump hid important papers.

He is upset about people saying Mar-a-Lago is worth less money, and he talks about it a lot in the news and on social media.

Trump’s lawyers asked a fancy real estate broker named Lawrence Moens to be a witness. He said in court that Mar-a-Lago is worth more than $1 billion.

Mr Moens said very rich and important people like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and even rulers would want to buy the property.

And if there were no rules about what you can do, he might be right.

Ms Clarke, the real estate agent in Palm Beach, said that Mar-a-Lago is a 17. 5 acre property with an old building, a piece of land by the ocean, and the potential to build seven lots in a very desirable area.

She said that without the rules on the property, it could sell for around $500 million. But it might sell for even more if a lot of people are interested in it because of where it is and where it came from.

    What’s on the line?

During the trial, Mr. Trump said in court that he doesn’t have to follow the rules in the Mar-a-Lago deed. He also said the prices would have been higher if they had considered the Trump brand.

His lawyers said that the values of assets don’t really matter because banks do their research and don’t just rely on financial statements to make loan decisions.

The last expert witness for the defence, Eli Bartov, who is an accounting expert and professor at New York University, said in court that there were mistakes in the financial documents, but they were not meant to hide fraud or show any wrongful intention.

He said that these “statements of financial condition” are just a beginning for banks and lenders to figure out how much something is worth, and that value can be different depending on who you ask.

Mr Trump often says that banks don’t care because they made money. No bank had any problems. “Nobody hurt any banks,” he said when the trial began.

The prosecutors don’t have to show that people were harmed, they just have to show that someone committed fraud on purpose. When the lawsuit started, the New York lawyer said “even former presidents must follow the same rules as everyone else. ”

After hearing the last testimony this week, Judge Engoron will take a long break and then decide on the remaining fraud charges and any penalties in January.

Mr Trump has a problem because the judge found that the most important documents in the case were all false, according to attorney Mitchell Epner.

Mr Trump and his friends could be banned from doing business in New York and have to pay fines of at least $250 million in the worst situation.

The Trump Organization might have to give up control to someone chosen by a court, or they might have to sell some of their most famous buildings, like Mar-a-Lago.

  • White House contest heated up with calls for dictatorship

White House contest heated up with calls for dictatorship

In American politics this week, people have been talking a lot about dictatorship, or the possibility of it happening.

Donald Trump is getting closer to being chosen as the Republican presidential candidate. People who disagree with him are criticizing him more.

Neoconservative writer Robert Kagan wrote an essay in the Washington Post saying that the chances of the United States becoming a dictatorship have increased a lot. Former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney, who has been critical of Mr. Trump, said on CBS that the US is heading towards a dictatorship without realizing it.

The old president ignored these warnings and called them more proof of people being obsessed with criticizing Trump.

Then, during a meeting in Iowa on Tuesday night, Trump, who often speaks highly of powerful leaders like Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, made the situation worse by behaving recklessly.

Some US news headlines said that Trump made his critics’ worst fears seem true. They were worried he would become a “dictator” if he got re-elected as US president.

But, the trade was more complicated than that.

Fox News host Sean Hannity tried to get the ex-president to say he won’t use his power to hurt his enemies if he gets elected again next year. Trump has hinted at this in the past.

“Are you promising America tonight that you won’t use your power to get back at anyone. ” Hannity asked

“Other than the first day” of his next term in office.

He said he will take action by himself to make the border safe and to get more energy out of the ground. He will also do more drilling for energy, as Trump said.

“He said he’s not a dictator after that. ”

These incomplete promises haven’t made Trump’s critics feel any better.

They believe that democracy will face challenges in a second term because there will be fewer protections in place.

They say the ex-president has talked about using the justice department as a weapon and replacing civil servants with loyal supporters. And they say this time he won’t have people in his group who will disagree with the extreme ideas.

A Trump political action committee (PAC) said the real person with a lot of power is in the White House now.

“Joe Biden is using his power to go after journalists, politicians, activists, and worried parents,” Make America Great Again Inc said in an email on Wednesday.

One of Trump’s opponents, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, told the BBC that a second term for Trump could be dangerously controlling, even though Trump may not openly admit to being a dictator.

Hutchinson says that when an authoritarian president takes more power and ignores Congress and the court, it means that all the power is held by one part of the government. “Our country wasn’t meant to be run like this, and it’s too controlled by one person. ”

This is what Hutchinson said next, and it might worry Joe Biden’s campaign for president. If Trump and Biden are the main candidates in 2024, the former Arkansas governor would search for a different choice.

“I won’t choose Biden over Trump,” Hutchinson said. I will find other ways to help if that happens.

In 2020 and at the start of his 2024 campaign, Biden wanted to appeal to Republicans who were unhappy, as well as people who are not affiliated with any political party, and his own party members.

However, even though there are concerns about a possibly controlling candidate in the Republican party – someone who doesn’t take the term dictator seriously – Hutchinson still won’t consider supporting the current Democrat in office.

One year before the election, polls may not be very accurate. But the most recent polls show that the race between Trump and Biden will be very tight. And if Hutchinson, who is not a fan of Trump, is looking for someone else to vote for in the presidential election, he is likely not alone.

The new political group No Labels might choose a centrist candidate, and Liz Cheney and others are thinking about running for office on their own. This could give unhappy voters more choices when they vote.

In an election where every vote counts, it’s not a good position for Biden to be in. According to Trump’s strongest critics on the right, it’s a risky situation for the country.

In his essay in the Washington Post, Kagan says that Trump has a good chance of winning the presidency because of support from the Republicans and the mood of the country. He also thinks that Trump would be more dangerous if he became president.

He says Trump and his friends will try to hurt people they don’t like, while many Americans do nothing to stop them.

Many Americans, including a lot of people who support Trump, don’t see it that way, of course. And in November, most people might vote for the previous president again, even though experts like Kagan have advised against it.

It’s starting to become clear that Biden and the Democrats will say this election is about protecting democracy. Trump is trying to provoke them with his strong and forceful language, whether he is joking or being serious.

  • Plan to remove Trump from ballot to be pursued in court

Plan to remove Trump from ballot to be pursued in court

A legal attempt to prevent Donald Trump from running for president in 2024 is being looked at in court.

The plan is to stop Mr. Trump from being on the primary ballot by using a part of the US Constitution called Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. This part says that people who have fought against the country can’t hold a government job.

At first, the idea was supported by liberal activists. But now, some conservatives are also starting to like it.

However, some people say that if it happens, it might take away the chance for voters to decide if the former president should come back to the White House.

A judge in Colorado will decide on a case in the next few weeks. In Minnesota, a court said no to removing Mr. Trump from the primary ballot. But the court said people can try again to remove him from the general election ballot.

In Michigan, a judge said Trump can still be on the ballot for the Republican primary because it’s a political issue for Congress to decide, not the state.

A legal case has been started in New Hampshire.

The new legal strategy is a last attempt to stop a popular ex-president from running for office.

The final decision could be made by the conservative Supreme Court that he helped create – if it even reaches that point.

    What does theory mean.

The 14th Amendment became a law after the American Civil War. Section 3 of the amendment stopped people who tried to leave the country from getting their old government jobs back when southern states joined the Union again.

It was used against Confederate president Jefferson Davis and his vice-president Alexander Stephens. They both used to work in Congress. But it has not been used much since then.

It became a big issue in politics again when Mr. Trump tried to change the result of the 2020 election. This led to a riot at the US Capitol in January 2021.

After the attack, the US House of Representatives accused the former president of encouraging a rebellion and voted to impeach him.

If the US Senate had voted to find him guilty, they could have then voted to stop him from ever being able to hold office again with just a simple majority vote.

But that didn’t happen: the Senate couldn’t agree by enough votes to convict Mr. Trump, so there was no second vote.

    Is Section 3 for Trump.

Free Speech For People, a group that supports certain ideas, is saying that it does.

The group complained about lawmakers who supported Trump and accused them of causing conflict.

Ron Fein, the legal director of the organization, argues that the 14th Amendment was not only written for the time after the Civil War, but for future rebellions as well.

He told the BBC that the riot at the US Capitol was the first time in our country’s history that the peaceful transfer of power was delayed, and it was worse than what the Confederates ever achieved.

Mr Fein said that the people we opposed in 2022 were involved in the events that led to the insurrection.

He said their cases set important legal examples that can be used to prove “Trump is the main leader of the rebellion”.

    How will it progress.

Free Speech For People wants to try to stop Mr. Trump from running for president in many states. It is also asking the top election officials in at least nine states to take him off the primary ballot.

Either way, the candidate will likely protest the decision, which could lead to a court case in the US Supreme Court to decide his fate.

The legal plan has gained momentum since August, when Mr. Trump was accused of trying to change the election results in two different criminal cases.

In that month, two conservative legal scholars wrote in a paper that Section 3 automatically disqualifies someone from office without Congress having to do anything else.

Mr Trump may not be allowed to run for election if state or federal officials decide he doesn’t meet the requirements. That’s what the two people concluded.

Mr Baude and Mr. Paulsen are part of a powerful conservative group called the Federalist Society.

They think the Constitution should be understood how the people who wrote it meant it to be, and other legal experts who have similar beliefs support them.

Even the highest court in the country, which has a mostly conservative group of judges and three judges appointed by Trump, might agree with their point, according to Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a dean at Yale who agrees with Baude-Paulsen’s viewpoint.

“He said that as long as one of the election officials from the 50 states finds him not allowed to participate, that’s all that’s needed. ”

“One side will send it to a state court for review, and then both sides can appeal the decision and send it to the US Supreme Court for a quick resolution. ”

He said the case will be decided soon when Republican voters vote next year.

What is the reason people don’t like it.

Critics have raised concerns about whether the theory is practical, and if it should be used in a very divided America.

In a article for Bloomberg, professor Noah Feldman said that he believes Donald Trump is not the right person to be president. However, it’s the voters’ decision to stop him. The words from the past that seemed magical won’t be able to help us now.

To create a convoluted and complex legal argument.

  • Four unexpected events that could sway US election in 2024

Four unexpected events that could sway US election in 2024

In simple terms, it seems like the 2024 election might be similar to the 2020 election, but with Donald Trump running against President Joe Biden instead.

Many people feel frustrated that voters are always given the same options and everything seems to follow a predictable pattern. Even the surveys show that the competition is very close.

But as any historian will explain, unexpected things can occur within a year to change the course of a race. In 1979, President Jimmy Carter may have lost the election because of a situation where people were held hostage. And in 2020, a serious disease outbreak greatly changed the nation.

Let’s take a look at four unexpected things that might completely change how this election goes.

What happens if an independent candidate becomes popular.

If you are not a Republican or a Democrat, it is highly unlikely that you will become the US president. But candidates who are not affiliated with the main political parties have caused major changes in elections before, and they may do the same thing again in 2024.

In 1992, a rich businessman named Ross Perot got 19% of the votes, and many people believe that this caused the Republicans to lose the presidential election. In 2000, Ralph Nader, a candidate from the Green Party, got 97,488 votes in Florida. This helped George W Bush win the swing state. Some people believe that Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, negatively affected Hillary Clinton’s chances in the 2016 election.

This election could have a similar surprising outcome. A high-ranking American politician I spoke with this week mentioned that President Biden and Republican front-runner Donald Trump have low approval ratings. This could give a chance for other politicians to become more influential. A recent poll by Gallup also indicates the same thing.

Two people who are not affiliated with any political parties have already joined the competition. Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr are activists who used to be part of the Democratic Party but have now chosen to leave it. Before he changed, surveys showed that he had the potential to gain the backing of about 20% of people who support the Democratic Party. Now that Kennedy doesn’t belong to a political party, he could attract voters who think conspiracies are true and potentially steal votes from Trump.

This election is expected to be very close, so even a small number of votes going to a candidate from a different party can have a significant impact.

Can something happen to one of them before Election Day?

Yes, this is a common refrain: both President Biden and President Trump are elderly. Trump will be 78 years old and Biden will be 82 on Inauguration Day in 2025. Though neither of them appears to be in bad condition, what if anything did happen to them in the days leading up to the election?

If they become very ill or die before New Year’s Day 2024, there are many people on both sides who want to be chosen. However, things become more difficult as states complete their final primary ballot preparations.

If something really bad happens in the middle of October 2024, their name will still be listed on the national ballot. According to the Constitution, even if you can’t make a promise, you can still participate in a race even if you are no longer alive.

This has happened before: In the year 2000, Mel Carnahan was running to become a US Senator when he died in a plane accident while on his way to a campaign event. He was chosen for the position after he passed away, and his wife, Jean, served until a new election took place in 2002.

If the person who wins the election dies after the election, but before they start working as the president, then the vice president would take their place. After that, they would have to choose someone to take their place as Vice President – but that person would have to be accepted by Congress.

This is very difficult, so let’s wish that all candidates stay very healthy.

What happens if a war in another country gets worse.

President Biden is seeking to be re-elected but is dealing with serious problems from other countries – Russia invading Ukraine and Israel fighting against Hamas. China is putting more pressure on Taiwan’s airspace with its military, and this is dangerous.

His team has tried to use this situation for political gain, showing him as a trustworthy commander in chief. People think he has done a decent job managing the two intense wars. But there are already concerning patterns for the president’s campaign: especially a decrease in support from young Democratic voters, who are upset because Biden strongly supports Israel while the number of Palestinian casualties increases.

And if any of these wars go beyond the current borders – if Russia attacks a country that is a member of Nato, if armed groups supported by Iran join the Hamas fight against Israel – that would disrupt plans and cause chaos during the election year.

Will the US be involved or pulled into a situation from its current position where it can prevent or discourage actions.

Will all the confusion happening globally harm the chances of Donald Trump’s opponent. Or will Trump gain support from people who are tired of paying for and potentially participating in wars abroad again.

There are many things that they can’t control, especially in the Middle East. This is not a good situation for any person running for president to be in.

What would happen if Donald Trump goes to jail.

The ex-president is accused of 91 crimes and will have four separate trials next year.

The maximum possible punishment is spending many years in prison, but few legal experts believe that is probable, even if found guilty.

Trump’s lawyers have been working really hard but haven’t been able to delay the trials until after the election. They understand that if they win the election, it is unlikely that they can be punished for their actions until four years later, unless Congress decides to impeach them.

If he gets sent to jail before the election, there’s still a chance he can win.

Being a person who has been found guilty of a serious crime does not stop him from participating in a presidential election. Actually, a hundred years ago, a candidate managed to get almost one million votes while being in prison. It would definitely make campaigning difficult, but polls show that many Republican voters would not be discouraged.

If he becomes president while in prison, he might be able to forgive himself for any federal crimes, but if he is imprisoned for state crimes, he would not have the power to do the same. This means there is a strange chance of being the president while also being in prison.

We are in completely new and unknown situation, and even the smartest legal experts in the country are confused.

  • Donald Trump Jr. testifies in civil fraud trial in New York

Donald Trump Jr. testifies in civil fraud trial in New York

The oldest son of former President Donald Trump said he did not help with the financial papers that are causing problems for the family’s property business in a court case about fraud.

Donald Trump Jr, who is 45 years old, seemed calm and laid back in court in New York City. He made some funny remarks and insisted that he had not done anything wrong.

His brother and sister, Ivanka and Eric Trump, are going to give testimony soon.

The judge has already said that the Trump Organization made its wealth seem bigger than it really was and lied about its business records.

The court case will decide what punishment should be given. Letitia James, who is in charge of the legal affairs in New York and belongs to the Democratic Party, wants to punish the former president with a fine of $250 million and prevent him from carrying out any business activities in New York.

Donald Trump Jr is the first of Donald Trump‘s children to provide information in this legal matter. Earlier this week, he went on the conservative Newsmax network and said that the trial was a fake and unfair court.

He and Eric Trump are both being sued together with their father. The two brothers have important positions at the Trump Organization.

Mr Trump Jr, wearing a blue suit and a bright pink tie, answered questions for a little more than an hour. His statement will continue on Thursday.

He started his presentation by talking about Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), which are the rules and guidelines businesses follow to keep their financial records accurate.

Mr admitted that he didn’t know much about GAAP, except for some things he remembered from his college business classes.

When the state attorney asked him about his understanding of the topic, he made the courtroom laugh by saying, “I don’t understand anything. ”

“I let my accountants handle it,” Mr.

During the trial, Mr. Trump Jr apologized to the judge because he was talking too fast for the court stenographer to type everything accurately.

“I’m sorry, Your Honour, I moved to Florida, but I continued to live at the fast pace of New York,” he said jokingly.

He said in court that he had done “every single thing” while working for the family business. He’s not an accountant, though.

Mrsaid that his position in the company became more important after his father, who is a Republican and the president of the United States, was elected.

“He said that we no longer informed my father about the business decisions. ”

Both of Trump’s brothers were appointed as trustees of the company when their father became president in 2017, in order to prevent any conflicts of interest.

On Wednesday, someone asked Mr. Trump Jr if he had approved his father’s “statement of financial condition. ” He responded by saying that he did not remember doing so.

The afternoon in court was mostly quiet, but there were a few intense arguments between Mr. Trump’s lawyers and the New York attorney general’s team towards the end of questioning.

The lawyers asked Mr. Trump Jr if he helped make the company’s financial papers.

He mentioned that he depended on others to “create a document like this”.

The accountants were doing it. “He said that is exactly why we gave them money. ”
Mrinformed the court that the responsibility for the task was with Allen Weisselberg, a long-serving finance chief. Weisselberg had been charged in this case and admitted his guilt last year for committing tax crimes.

“I had to listen to the people who knew a lot about those things,” he said, and he trusted Weisselberg and his accounting team.

Judge Arthur Engoron, a Democrat from New York, is overseeing the trial and has already determined that Mr Trump is responsible for exaggerating his assets in order to obtain loans that were advantageous to him.

A short time before his son was going to speak in court, Mr. Trump posted on his Truth Social account: “Stop bothering my kids, Engoron. ” You bring shame to the job of being a lawyer.

Last week, the judge gave a penalty to the former president for breaking a rule twice. The penalty was $15,000 because he talked about a court worker when he wasn’t supposed to.

At first, Ivanka Trump was named as one of the people being accused in the case. However, she was later taken off the list and made to testify as a witness instead.

On Wednesday, Ms. Trump’s lawyers asked for the order to testify to be changed. She is supposed to testify on 8 November.

The person who used to be the president and is currently the top contender to be the Republican choice for president in 2024, is expected to give evidence on Monday.

Last week, he went to court to see his old lawyer Michael Cohen testify. Cohen said that one of his jobs at the Trump Organization was to increase the value of assets by using a number chosen randomly by Mr.

MrTrump is currently dealing with four criminal trials. These include cases in Georgia and Washington DC where he is being accused of trying to change the outcome of the 2020 election that he lost.

  • Trump’s sons’ legal battle is a study in contrasts

Trump’s sons’ legal battle is a study in contrasts

Donald Trump‘s two sons wore identical outfits when they went to court to give evidence in a case about cheating people in business. This case could harm their family’s business. But their behavior on the witness stand was very different.

Even Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump had matching pale blue ties.

The accounts given by the two brothers were very different from each other. Their public images are closely connected to their father’s business and political projects, but their personalities and reputations have developed in very different ways.

Donald Trump Jr, the oldest son, tried to continue being confident and funny on his second day of testifying.

He kept saying he didn’t know or have anything to do with the accounting practices that went against what the New York state attorney general wanted – even though he was in charge of the company and responsible for his father’s trust.

“He said to do it again,” he replied after being asked the same questions over and over by the state’s attorney Colleen Faherty.

He seemed to flirt with the artists in the courtroom during a break in the morning.

“He playfully asked one of them to make him appear attractive. ”

He is mostly recognized for being a great supporter in political campaigns, sometimes copying his father’s way of speaking.

He said similar things as Donald Trump Sr did about the investigation, but in a more polished way.
“Regrettably, the attorney general has started a case that is solely a political attack,” he informed journalists.

Eric Trump was more careful and cautious when he started providing evidence on Thursday morning.

While his brother is in charge of politics, Eric Trump is mainly known for his involvement in the family business.

No funny or sarcastic remarks were made by the person testifying when Eric Trump was speaking. His brother was not as anxious as him when asking questions.

Eric Trump initially said he didn’t know or have anything to do with the fake financial reports that the attorney general claimed were exaggerated. However, he later received emails that mentioned these documents.

The attorney general’s office revealed an email from 2013. The email was sent by an employee to Eric Trump. In the email, the employee requested information about financial statements.

During a very intense conversation, Andrew Amer, a lawyer working for the attorney general’s office, interrogated Eric Trump about his understanding of his father’s financial records.

Getting irritated, Eric answered: “We are a big company, a huge real estate company – and yes, I’m quite certain that I know we have financial documents. ” Yes

He later said, “I didn’t have anything to do with it and I never worked on my dad’s financial statement. ”

Unlike his brother, Eric Trump did not socialize with the court staff during the breaks. Instead, he stood in front of the table where the defense sits. He kept moving his weight from one foot to the other while waiting for the judge to come back.

Although the brothers are different, their destinies are connected.

They both work as executive vice-presidents at their father’s business company, the Trump Organization.

Both of them are now mentioned in a lawsuit by the New York attorney general. The lawsuit accuses the business of committing lots of fraud.

Both companies could possibly be barred from doing business in New York if a judge rules against them.

Donald Trump, the man they are said to have done all this for, was not present in court on Thursday, even though he had attended court before.

But he did post a supportive message on his Truth Social account.

“I feel really upset,” he wrote, “to see my sons being treated unfairly. “

  • Maine shootings: Maine Democrat changes stance on weapon control

Maine shootings: Maine Democrat changes stance on weapon control

One of the few remaining congressmen from the Democratic party who did not support strict gun control laws has suddenly changed his mind after a mass shooting happened in his area in Maine.

Jared Golden, 41, didn’t support a ban on semi-automatic weapons until a gunman killed 18 people in his hometown of Lewiston on Wednesday.

The Marine Corps veteran admits that his earlier position was not successful.

He is a politician who represents a mostly rural area that supported Donald Trump in two elections.

The congressman, who was in his third term, won the election in 2018 and helped the Democrats gain control of the district.

Since he arrived in Congress, he has gone against his own political party by voting against a few measures related to controlling guns.

He was one of just five Democratic representatives who disagreed with a suggestion to forbid assault-style guns, which the House approved in 2022. It did not pass as a law.

“I do not agree or back any version of that,” Mr. Golden stated at that moment.

But on Thursday, Mr. Golden said that the shooting in Lewiston made him think again.

“He said at a news conference on Thursday that it is now time for me to accept blame for this mistake. ”

That’s why I’m asking the United States Congress to make a law to stop people from having assault rifles like the one the person used to do the mass killings in my hometown.
He said sorry for disagreeing with gun control before.

Mr Golden expressed his intention to collaborate with any coworker in order to complete this task before his time in Congress comes to an end.

Susan Collins, a Republican Senator from Maine who is not extreme in her views, wants to put limitations on high-capacity magazines.

US President Joe Biden asked Republican lawmakers, who are in charge of the House of Representatives, to do their job and keep the American people safe.

But even when Democrats controlled both the House of Representatives and the Senate during the first two years of President Biden’s term, they were unable to pass this particular law.

When Biden was the leader of a Senate committee, he was in charge of trying to limit the use of semi-automatic rifles in 1994. However, this restriction was only in place for ten years and people still argue about whether it actually worked.

In 2019, Maine made a rule called the “yellow flag” law. This law lets police officers ask to take away someone’s guns if they think that person might hurt themselves or others.

According to the rule, the person needs to get a medical check-up and be put under protection.

It is not as broad as “red flag” laws. The “red flag” laws let family members, teachers, and others do the same thing.

It is not known if anyone asked for something official about the person who did the shooting on Wednesday. The police and family members say that this person had serious mental health problems.

The Portland Press Herald, which is a newspaper in our area, shared that the yellow flag law has been used only 58 times over the course of three years.

The Second Amendment of the US Constitution protects the right of Americans to own guns.

Two of Donald Trump’s former attorneys enter guilty pleas over election meddling

Two lawyers who used to work for President Donald Trump have admitted they did something wrong to interfere in the 2020 presidential election.

Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro admitted their guilt about six crimes related to scheming to disrupt election duties.

Powell and Chesebro were among 19 people who were accused by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in August for trying to change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

The people being accused are the former President Trump and the former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Powell became well-known right after the 2020 election when she appeared with Giuliani and other Trump supporters, strongly claiming that the election was stolen through fraudulent means.

Powell said she would file many lawsuits in states that Biden won, like Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arizona.

She said, ‘I am going to let loose the Kraken,’ during a well-known interview on Fox Business in November 2020.

Most of the lawsuits that Powell filed were either dropped or dismissed by the courts.
The charges filed in August said that Powell helped plan a plan to hack into voting machines in Coffee County, which is a small countryside area in southeastern Georgia.

Chesebro was accused of trying to make a fake group of electors for Georgia, hoping that Vice President Mike Pence would choose them instead of the real electors chosen by the state.

The indictment says that Chesebro made a plan for 16 people from Georgia to sign fake certificates saying they were elected and qualified.

The vice president did not agree to accept Chesebro’s other electors in the end.
Both Powell and Chesebro said they would not agree to a plea deal if prosecutors suggested it.

Powell made an agreement with the court that she will be put on probation for six years and have to pay a fine of $6,000. She also said she would help prove Trump’s guilt in court if asked.

Also, Chesebro will have to follow certain rules and be supervised for five years. They will also have to help the community for 100 hours and give $5,000 as a punishment.

EU cautions Musk about ‘disinformation’ on X after Hamas attack

Kari Lake, a person who wanted to become the governor of Arizona but didn’t accept losing, plans to run for the state’s Senate position in the 2024 election.

Ms Lake repeated what her friend Donald Trump said by claiming that she lost in 2022 because of a lot of cheating.

She joins a tight competition, where Sen Kyrsten Sinema and Rep Ruben Gallego might also be participating.

Ms Lake spoke to her supporters at a rally in Arizona on Tuesday. She spent a lot of her speech talking negatively about Joe Biden.

The 54-year-old Republican criticized the president’s policies on the US border with Mexico. They called media organizations “un-American” and said they supported Mr. Trump’s time in the White House.

“We only have one year to rescue this country and we need to change our approach, folks. ” She said we need to leave Joe Biden. “We need to have patriotic Americans who prioritize the success of our country in the Senate. ”

Right now, there is a situation at the Arizona border where a group of people or things have forcefully entered without permission. Kyrsten Sinema and Ruben Gallego have consistently said “no” to giving money for the border wall. They have approved this plan to have open borders. Arizonans are tired of it,” she later said in a message on X, which used to be called Twitter.

Ms Lake, who ended up losing the election for governor last year by 17,000 votes, tried to challenge her loss in court but didn’t succeed. The court did not want to listen to the challenge completely. They said in March that there was not enough proof that incorrect ballots had been included in the final count.

But Trump supported her position and fully endorsed her bid in a video message at Tuesday’s rally.

“In the Senate, we need a large, powerful majority to assist me in advancing our America First agenda quickly,” stated Mr. Kari is one of the strongest fighters in our group.

Ms Lake doesn’t have much competition right now to win the Republican nomination. Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb is currently the only other person who has joined the competition.

However, surveys indicate that there is a close race between Ms. Sinema, and Rep. The state, which used to mostly support Republicans, was won by President Biden in 2020.

Sen Sinema became a Democrat in 2018 by winning the election and taking over the seat previously held by retiring Republican Sen Jeff Flake. However, last year she decided to leave the party and become an independent. She did this because she wanted to challenge what she believed was a “flawed and divided” political system.

The person who is 47 years old has not yet said if they will try to be elected again.

Rep Gallego, a former US marine who some polls suggest is winning by a small margin in the race, was quick to criticize Ms Lake’s announcement. He wrote on X and said that she was “weakening our democracy”.

“That’s why people didn’t vote for you before, and they will do the same again,” he said.

  • Forbes drops Trump from its list of richest people

Former US President Donald Trump is no longer wealthy enough to be included in the Forbes 400 list, according to Forbes magazine.

His estimated net worth has dropped to $2.6 billion, down from $3.2 billion the previous year, which was enough to secure a place on the 2022 rich list.

However, Trump’s current net worth falls $300 million short of the baseline required to make the Forbes 400 list.

The richest person in America, according to Forbes, is Tesla CEO Elon Musk, with a net worth of $251 billion.

Forbes also noted that Trump has long been obsessed with the Forbes 400 list and has frequently made false claims to reporters in an attempt to rank higher.

Trump’s exclusion from the Forbes 400 list coincides with his ongoing civil fraud trial in New York, where he is accused of exaggerating his wealth and property values.

Forbes attributes his decline in net worth to his social media venture, Truth Social, which has struggled to gain traction and has far fewer users compared to other social media platforms like Twitter.

  • Plane falls down from sky into home killing two people

Get out the world’s smallest violin because Donald Trump is not one of the richest 400 people in America anymore.

The former president was not included in the Forbes 400 list because he had a fortune of only $2. 6 billion, which was $300 million less than what was needed to be on the list.

His overall wealth has decreased by over $600 million in the past year, mainly because the value of his office buildings has gone down.

On Tuesday, the publication reported that Donald Trump is not wealthy enough anymore to be part of the country’s most exclusive club.
According to Forbes, in New York City, Trump owns a 30% share in a building called 1290 Avenue of the Americas. This building is managed by a company called Vornado Realty Trust, which is publicly traded. Currently, the value of Trump’s share in the building has dropped by around $60 million. The building is almost completely full, but its largest renter, Equitable Holdings, is going to move next year.

Trump also owns 30% of 555 California Street in San Francisco. Over half of the office building’s leases will end in 2026.

The main reason for Trump’s net worth decreasing is his Truth Social website, which has around 6. 5 million users This is just 1% of the users that X (previously known as Twitter) has. Donald Trump’s ownership of 90% of the social media platform has decreased in worth from around $730 million to under $100 million.

Forbes said: ‘If Trump’s ideas were doing well, he would probably have no difficulty finding another way to get money. ‘ However, that is not the case, and there is not much reason to feel hopeful about what lies ahead for Truth Social.
In simpler terms: If people aren’t going on Trump’s platform to hear what he has to say right now, when he’s dealing with legal issues and competing in the Republican presidential primary, then they probably won’t ever be interested.

Trump is now involved in a lawsuit that accuses him of cheating people and could potentially ruin his business in New York.

During the first day of the trial for New York Attorney General Letitia James’ $250 million lawsuit, prosecutor Kevin Wallace claimed that Trump’s financial statements tricked banks into taking on a lot of hidden risk, costing them hundreds of millions of dollars.

Wallace said: ‘It’s okay to stretch the truth for a magazine like Forbes, but you can’t do it when doing business in New York state. ‘

Each year, the defendants lied about how much money Mr. Trump had in order to keep getting low interest rates for his loans.

Trump made rare appearances in court voluntarily on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. These appearances turned the trial into something like a campaign event. Trump walked out of the trial after lunch on Wednesday and James said: ‘This was just a political trick, a way to collect money. ‘
Later on Wednesday evening, the Trump campaign announced that Trump collected over $45. 5 million in the third quarter of the year and currently has more than $37. 5 million in cash.

Donald Trump’s lawyers are requesting a review of Judge Arthur Engoron’s decision from last week. The judge stated that Trump, his sons, the Trump Organization, and its executives have consistently and repeatedly engaged in fraudulent behavior.

The ex-president was removed from The Forbes 400 list for the first time in 25 years in October 2021. At that time, Trump had about $2. 5 million in wealth, which was $400 million less than the amount needed to make it onto the list that year. While he was president, his total worth decreased each year, and the coronavirus pandemic also affected his real estate business.

  • “In the beginning, God created male and female” – Donald Trump hits back at LGBTQ+ community

“In the beginning, God created male and female” – Donald Trump hits back at LGBTQ+ community

Former United States President Donald Trump has reiterated his conservative stance on gender, asserting that God originally created two genders, male and female, in a swipe at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+) community.

While addressing a gathering over the weekend, the former president emphasised that if re-elected, he would take action to combat what he termed the “toxic poison” of gender ideology.

“I will take historic action to defeat the toxic poison of gender ideology and reassert that in the beginning, God created two genders, male and female,” he declared to cheers from the audience.

During his time in office, Trump implemented policies that were widely perceived as anti-LGBTQ+. However, most of these policies have been reversed by his successor, Joe Biden.

In Ghana, a bill is currently before parliament with the aim of explicitly criminalising LGBTQ+ activities. The bill, which was introduced in July 2021 by eight members of parliament, is officially titled the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021. The bill has been widely condemned by human rights groups, activists, celebrities, and foreign governments as a violation of international human rights law and standards.

Before becoming president, Trump had a mixed record on LGBTQ issues. He expressed support for some LGBTQ rights, such as civil unions and non-discrimination laws, but also opposed others, such as same-sex marriage and transgender military service.

During his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump claimed to be a “friend” of the LGBTQ community and promised to protect them from violence and oppression. He also held up a rainbow flag with “LGBTs for TRUMP” written on it at a rally in Colorado.

However, after taking office in 2017, Trump and his administration enacted or proposed several policies that were widely seen as harmful or hostile to the LGBTQ community. Some of these policies include:

    • Rescinding the Obama-era guidance that instructed public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity.
    • Banning transgender people from serving in the military, citing “tremendous medical costs and disruption”.
    • Excluding sexual orientation and gender identity questions from the 2020 Census and other federal surveys.
    • Appointing judges and officials who have anti-LGBTQ records or views, such as Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, Mike Pence, Jeff Sessions, and Betsy DeVos.
    • Supporting the right of businesses and individuals to refuse service to LGBTQ people on religious grounds.
    • Cutting funding for HIV/AIDS research and prevention programs.
    • Erasing or ignoring LGBTQ issues from the White House website, official statements, and proclamations.

Despite these actions, Trump has also made some gestures of support or recognition for the LGBTQ community, such as:

    • Declaring June 2019 as “LGBT Pride Month” and calling on the international community to decriminalize homosexuality.
    • Launching a global campaign to end the criminalization of homosexuality in countries where it is illegal.
    • Nominating Richard Grenell, an openly gay man, as the U.S. ambassador to Germany and later as the acting director of national intelligence.
    • Signing a law that designates the site of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting as a national memorial.

Trump’s relationship with the LGBTQ community has been complex and contradictory. He has shown some signs of support or tolerance for LGBTQ rights, but has also implemented or endorsed many policies that undermine or threaten them. His actions have sparked criticism, protests, and lawsuits from LGBTQ activists.

Donald Trump’s 2011 tweet concerning Libya resurfaces

A tweet from former U.S. President Donald John Trump, posted in 2011, has resurfaced on Twitter (now X) due to recent developments in Libya.

The tweet, dated August 23, 2011, pertained to the political events that led to the overthrow of then-leader Muammar Gaddafi. Trump had foreseen that the situation in Libya would deteriorate, even though he believed Gaddafi needed to be removed. His tweet read: “As bad as Qaddafi was—what comes next in Libya will be worse—just watch.”

Many people commenting on this 12-year-old tweet largely agree with Trump’s prediction while also defending Gaddafi. Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi was the Libyan leader who ruled the country from 1969 until his assassination in 2011 by rebel forces.

The rebels received support from a multinational NATO-led coalition, which initiated a military intervention in Libya to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973 in response to events during the 2011 Libyan civil war. The intervention began on March 19, 2011, and Gaddafi was killed on October 20. However, Libya has since remained divided among rival governments.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama has acknowledged that the intervention at the time was a mistake. He recently faced criticism after sharing a fundraiser for Libya in the aftermath of the devastating Derna floods.

A judge has ruled that the court proceedings involving former US President Donald Trump and his co-defendants in their Georgia election fraud case will be televised.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee also announced that the trial will be live-streamed on YouTube.

Mr. Trump is among 19 individuals facing charges related to a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 vote results in the state of Georgia.

He has pleaded not guilty and has opted not to appear in court next week, waiving that right.

Mr. Trump turned himself in at Fulton County Jail in Atlanta last week, where his mugshot was taken.

He has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has characterized the case as politically motivated.

In total, Mr. Trump faces 13 charges, including racketeering, for allegedly pressuring Georgia officials to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state.

In a court filing on Thursday, Mr. Trump acknowledged that he “fully understands” the nature of the allegations and his right to appear in court.

“Understanding my rights, I do hereby freely and voluntarily waive my right to be present at my arraignment on the indictment and my right to have it read to me in open court,” the signed document states.

Mr. Trump, the leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has previously attended all three of his arraignments, where charges are presented to a defendant.

For his cases in New York and Florida, he was required to appear in person, while he chose not to request a virtual appearance for a separate case in Washington DC.

In all three instances, there was heightened security due to gatherings of Trump supporters and counter-protesters near the courthouses.

Mr. Trump’s surrender and arraignment occurred simultaneously in his federal court cases, leading to high-profile courtroom appearances. However, in Georgia state court, a defendant’s surrender and arraignment typically happen separately.

Other people who are accused — like publicist Trevian Kutti, Georgia attorney Ray Smith III, and former Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell — have also said they are not guilty to avoid going to court.

Trump’s campaign raises $7.1 million from famous mugshot

Donald Trump‘s campaign claims it has received $7. 1 million since his arrest photo was taken in Atlanta, Georgia.

Most of the money is made by selling items like mugs, T-shirts, and drink coolers with the angry face of the ex-president on them.

Mr Trump was let go from custody after paying a certain amount of money, because he was accused of planning to change the outcome of the state’s 2020 election.

He has been accused of three crimes while he runs for President in the 2024 US election.

These include two things related to his lies about the election being stolen and the attack on the Capitol by his supporters in Washington.

Mr Trump says he didn’t do anything wrong and believes that the cases against him are motivated by politics. He thinks this because he is currently in the lead for the Republican nomination to compete against President Joe Biden from the Democratic Party.

His supporters are now paying more attention to him, and he has received nearly $20 million in three weeks after being charged in the Georgia and Capitol riots cases.

On Friday, right after he was taken into custody in Georgia, he collected $4. 18 million This is said to be the most money he has raised within a 24-hour period since the campaign started.

In addition to selling products on its website, the campaign has been sending messages to supporters to ask for assistance.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) for the first time since January 2021. He shared a mugshot with the caption “Election interference. ” Don’t give up. And the website address.

This happened after the ex-president had his picture taken at Fulton County jail. He gave himself up to the police and paid $200,000 to be let go until the trial.
