    Dan Kwaku Yeboah, a sports presenter, has praised Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association, for having a significant impact on the lives of certain former Ghanaian football heroes.

    Dan Kwaku Yeboah, a fierce opponent of Kurt Okraku, was moved when people like Dong Bortey and Armah Senegal emphasised the important role the GFA president plays in their life.

    The sports journalist was impressed when Dong Bortey said that Kurt Okraku motivated him to start coaching in a recent interview.

    “If you know Kurt Okraku, Don Bortey says he is grateful. You have affected his career positively and it’s commendable,” Dan Kwaku Yeboah said in gratitude to the GFA president.

    He added, “in this world if someone does something you have to commend him and criticize them if they go wrong.”

    “Most the players say you have helped them after their playing career by paving doors for them. Armah Senegal testified of his good works, so Kurt thank you,” Dan Kwaku Yeboah said.

    Hearts of Oak legend, Don Bortey believes the current players of the club lack the spirit to play for the club.

    The Phobians suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to the Malian side in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

    The Phobians will be looking to overturn the tie when they host AS Real Bamako in the return fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

    In an interview with Asempa FM, the former Hearts of Oak star was of the opinion current players lack the spirit to play for the club.

    “I am not giving up because this is Hearts of Oak. I know these players don’t have the spirit to play Hearts of Oak but I am pleading with the management to give me the access to speak to the players”

    “We did it against St. Georges in Obuasi and I will ensure we repeat that on Sunday against ASR Bamako”

    Former Ghana winger Bernard Don Bortey has called on the management of Asante Kotoko to sign Hearts of Oak trio of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Mohammed Alhassan and Sulley Muntari ahead of the Africa campaign.

    The Porcupine Warriors will be representing Ghana in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League season after merging as winners in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League campaign.

    In the bid to make impact, the former Hearts of Oak star has entreated Kotoko to sign the trio for Africa.

    “Kotoko should go to Hearts and sign Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Mohammed Alhassan, if they can they should also add Sulley Ali Muntari to help them in Africa ” he told Oyerepa FM.

    Don Bortey, who helped Hearts of Oak to win Africa during his spell with the club has come under intense pressure after joining Kotoko to celebrate their league triumph at the Baba Yara Stadium last Sunday.

    Hearts of Oak legend, Bernard Don Bortey says no defender in the Ghana Premier League gave him a tough time during his playing days.

    The 37-year old recently hanged his boots after a career that spanned over two decades, but his fondest memories in the game was when he was at Hearts of Oak.

    The pacy winger met several good defenders in his prime including the likes of Joseph Hendricks and Aziz Ansah but reveals non of them could handle him.

    “There were so many good defenders during our time but no one gave me a tough time, I gave them a though time,’ Don Bortey told Sikka Sports.

    Revered by many on the local scene, the former Ghana international failed to glitter in Europe.

    Bortey made 27 appearances for the national team of Ghana, scoring 9 times for the Black Stars.

    He played for the likes of GHAPOHA, Al Wasl, Bnei Shaknin, Aduana Stars, New Edubiase, the Panthers and Ange IF.

  • We have not signed Don Bortey – Great Olympics coach

    Great Olympics coach Isaac Nii Armah has confirmed that his outfit has not secured the services of Bernard Don Bortey ahead of the new season.

    Media reports went rife the “Oly Dade” boys have added the former Hearts of Oak attacker to their fold ahead of the upcoming season.

    The Accra-based club have recruited players to beef up their team as the League commence on the weekend of 27-29 December 2019 at match venues across the country.

    They signed experienced players like 2007 Ghana Premier League top scorer Emmanuel Clottey, former Aduana Stars captain Godfred Saka among others.

    However, the tactician of the Great Olympics, Isaac Nii Armah has rubbished reports of the 2002 Ghana Premier League joint goal king among the recruited players.

    “I can confirm that we have not signed Don Bortey, my outfit have signed Emmanuel Clottey, Godfred Saka and we are negotiation with 2 more players.”

    He added “Clottey has vast experience and I won’t be surprised if he gains a call-up to the national team when the League resumes.

    “Saka with his crosses and freekicks will be very important because of the way we want to play and we needed such a player to join us.”

    Great Olympics have been reinstated into the Ghana Premier League for the upcoming season following a decision by the Congress of the GFA held on October 25. According to their coach, his outfit is preparing feverishly to finish in the top 4.

    “Our worse performance in the upcoming league will be a top 4 finish.”

    Meanwhile, Great Olympics are set to play a friendly match against Dreams FC. The match will be played at the Vision FC Arena at Amrahia on Sunday, December 1 at 3:00 pm.
