Songo goes after Stephen Appiah over claims of “beating around the bush” on Black Stars selection

Outspoken broadcaster Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo, has criticised former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah for not tackling what he believes are critical issues affecting the team during his meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee.

According to Songo, Appiah should have focused on addressing concerns about the hiring of subpar coaches and an alleged bias against local players.

“Say things the way they need to be said; don’t be afraid. It is clear that Stephen Appiah and others are beating around the bush. They know the real problems of our national team, but they ignore it,” he said in a video shared on his YouTube channel.

“You should’ve told them the truth when you were called. The main issue that Appiah should have addressed was the appointment of bad coaches. He should’ve told parliament.

The most bizarre appointment among them all is the appointment of Otto Addo,” he added.

He said Appiah during his heydays played alongside local players at the Black Stars who were top talents; hence, leading a fight for local players to be given a chance is long overdue.

“First of all, since when did they realise that the local boys deserve a chance to play the Black Stars? When he was a Black Stars player, there were local players as well, and they were very good players.

Today, the truth is that some GFA officials have decided not to allow local players to play for the Black Stars. And also hiring of mediocre coaches.”

For several years, Ghana has largely relied on foreign-based players for the Black Stars, sparking concerns about the technical team continuously overlooking local talent.

At his meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports on September 25, 2024, Appiah reminisced about a time when homegrown players and foreign-based stars collaborated effectively to form a balanced squad.

“The local players should be given the chance to play for the national team. In our time, there were key players, but we worked hard for it. For instance, in the 2004 World Cup, Osei Kufuor, who was playing in Italy, was benched in the second game for Shilla Illiasu, who was playing for Kotoko.

There are other instances where local players did well for the team.”

Those who appointed Otto Addo wasted our money – Countryman Songo

Controversial media personality Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo, has criticised the choice of Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars, alleging that the decision has led to a decline in the nation’s revenue.

Songo did not specify the exact financial repercussions of Addo’s appointment but has called on Ghanaians to direct their frustrations over the team’s recent performance towards the committee responsible for hiring Addo.

He argued that the committee deviated from their stated requirement of selecting a coach with 15 years of experience, opting instead for a less experienced ‘scout.’

“All the persons who were involved in the selection of Otto Addo must go. They told us they needed someone with 15 years of experience, but they went for a trainer scout.

They went for someone who is using the Black Stars to master coaching. It is a big financial loss to the state. The committee members must be dealt with.”

Songo called for the head of Otto Addo and lashed out at the manager, labelling him as pompous.

“Otto Addo is not the only person who should be sacked. The only thing Otto Addo knows is speaking big English and snubbing people.

He pretends like he is a great coach who should not be criticised.

He blamed the pitch at Baba Yara for the defeat but drew with Niger on a good pitch.”

The Black Stars are now without a win in two games in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, losing 1-0 to Angola in Kumasi before a 1-1 draw against Niger in Morocco.

Angola leads the group with 6 points, followed by Sudan with 3, while Ghana and Niger are both tied with a point each at the bottom.

You are lazy to pick Ati-Zigi as your first choice keeper – Songo slams Otto Addo

Ghanaian sports broadcaster Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo, has sharply criticised Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, accusing him of being complacent and lacking diligence.

Songo expressed his discontent with the coach’s decision to include St. Gallen goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi in the latest Black Stars squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He argued that the selection of Ati-Zigi reflects a lack of effort on Otto Addo’s part in scouting new talent, accusing the coach of relying on familiar players rather than exploring fresh options for the national team.

“If Lawrence Ati-Zigi is considered our best goalkeeper and number one option, then the coach is lazy. It means he does not do any scouting; he is not searching for players.”

“I don’t understand, did the coach do scouting? There is no local player apart from the goalkeeper (Frederick Asare). The foreign-based players he called are not that good, but they always call them.”

Songo voiced his dissatisfaction with the inclusion of just one local player in the squad, who happens to be a goalkeeper.

He criticised football administrators, stating that they should be ashamed of the current state of the local league, which he believes has significantly declined.

“There is no local player. Are you not ashamed that the league has declined to the extent that no local player could play for the Black Stars? Some players are there not because they are good but because of their names.”

On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Otto Addo announced his 23-man squad, which includes 3 goalkeepers, 8 defenders, 5 midfielders, and 7 forwards.

The Black Stars are set to face Angola at home in Kumasi on September 5, 2024, before travelling to Niger for their next match on September 9.

Wait for Karma! – Countryman Songo blast Ogum over ‘sacking’ of Kotoko players

Patrick Osei Agyemang, known as Countryman Songo, a former member of Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s management committee under Nana Yaw Amponsah, has criticized coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, accusing him of political maneuvering and hypocrisy.

In response to the club’s decision to release over 18 players, Countryman Songo claimed that these players are being ‘punished’ due to their association with Nana Yaw Amponsah.

He alleged that Dr. Ogum is letting his personal issues with Nana Yaw Amponsah influence his treatment of the players, assuming their loyalty lies with Amponsah.

Countryman Songo cautioned Dr. Ogum to reconsider his actions, suggesting that karma will eventually catch up with the coach for his treatment of the players.

“Nana Yaw Amponsah brought him to Kotoko and made him a league winner as a coach. The players who have now been released were part of the squad that won him his first league title as a coach.

“He engaged in politics and ostracized them because he thought they were Nana Yaw Amponsah’s players and would not perform for the team, but these players are professionals.

He referred to them as senior players, yet they were signed by Nana Yaw Amponsah.

“Initially, he favored the players he brought to the club, but when he realized they were not performing, he reverted to the seasoned players signed by Nana Yaw. He has nothing to offer Kotoko.

“All he does is engage in politics and hypocrisy. Karma will deal with him. Kotoko endured a struggling season because of politics. The coach doesn’t have solid plans for the team, so they will continue to struggle,” he stated on his Adom TV show.

On June 18, 2024, Asante Kotoko announced the release of eleven players at the end of the 2023/2024 Ghana football season.

The following day, the club confirmed the dismissal of an additional seven players, raising the total number of players released to eighteen.

Countryman Songo upset despite Ghana’s win over Mali; slams Partey

Ghanaian sports broadcaster Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo, has voiced his criticism of the Black Stars’ technical team for their decision to bench Jordan Ayew in Ghana’s 2-1 victory over Mali.

Expressing his discontent, Songo suggested that Jordan’s exclusion from the starting lineup was part of a larger agenda against the Ayew family, which he found particularly troubling.

He went further to allege that there was a deliberate effort by the technical team to sideline Jordan, whom he regards as the team’s most talented player.

“It was a plan to bench Jordan Ayew; that’s why you benched him. Jordan Ayew is better than all the current players on the Black Stars. He is ahead of all of them,” he said.

He contended that Thomas Partey pales in comparison to Jordan, emphasizing that the skipper’s position at Arsenal is a testament to his privilege.

Supporting his assertion, he highlighted Partey’s role as a substitute at Arsenal, suggesting that it underscores his lack of impact compared to Jordan.

“He (Joran Ayew) is number 1, then Kudus follows. He is ahead of all of them. For Partey, he’s been privileged to play for Arsenal. Even at Arsenal, he is a bench warmer. Be honest, and the Black Stars will fare well,” he asserted.

Jordan Ayew, initially benched in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali, emerged as the hero with the match-winning goal in the 2-1 triumph.

Despite his limited playing time of less than 20 minutes, Ayew showcased his brilliance, earning plaudits as one of the standout performers of the evening.

The victory has reignited Ghana’s World Cup qualification aspirations, propelling them to third place in the group, level on 6 points with Madagascar and Comoros, who occupy the top two spots.

Following his remarkable impact against Mali, Jordan is anticipated to feature from the start in the upcoming Black Stars’ encounter against the Central African Republic, scheduled for today, June 10, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

I said things I regret, I am sorry – Countryman Songo apologises to Paintsil amidst lawsuit

Sports journalist Patrick Osei Agyemang, better known as Countryman Songo, has issued an apology to Black Stars assistant coach John Paintsil, following the defamation lawsuit filed against him.

Countryman Songo, one of the defendants in the lawsuit, made the apology during his show on Adom TV on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Expressing remorse for his actions, Countryman Songo admitted that his remarks against the Black Stars assistant coach were misguided.

He acknowledged that his emotions had clouded his judgment, leading to his inappropriate comments.

“God said we should be straightforward so if you realize that you’ve wronged your brother, just apologize. I want to apologize to John Paintsil for some things that didn’t go well. He’s a deputy Black Stars coach. I said certain things that didn’t sit well with him and it worried him,” Songo said.

He added, “Sometimes when you get angry you say things that you later regret because you didn’t handle things well. So I want to tell him I am sorry and I ask for his forgiveness because after all football is the reason we are in this industry.”

John Paintsil filed a defamation lawsuit against four sports journalists and three media entities, seeking GH¢80 million in damages.

The journalists named in the lawsuit are Veronica Commey, Saddick Adams, Christopher Nimley, and Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo.

The media entities served with the writ are Omni Media Limited, Angel Broadcasting Network, and Multimedia Group. They have been given eight days to respond and appear in court.

John Paintsil faced criticism following his appointment as deputy coach of Ghana’s senior national team. He had previously attracted public ire for condemning some journalists, including those named in the suit, for organizing a protest against the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The protest aimed to highlight the poor state of football and sports in Ghana and to urge regulatory bodies to address the issues.

However, Paintsil defended the GFA and the ministry, arguing that the protest lacked merit.

The likes of Nyantakyi don’t like peace – Countryman Songo reacts to ex-GFA boss comments on Football demo

Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, a key organizer of the Save Ghana Football protest, has responded to Kwesi Nyantakyi’s criticism of their demonstration held on February 14, 2024.

During the April 2, 2024, episode of his Fire for Fire show, Songo expressed disagreement with a comment made by the former president of the Ghana Football Association, which seemed to undermine the significance of the protest.

While Songo acknowledged Nyantakyi’s suggestion that the organizers could have opted to submit a petition to the GFA instead, he was upset by the characterization of the protest as “unnecessary”.

The outspoken presenter from Adom TV argued that Nyantakyi’s attempt to diminish the protest was inappropriate and that he should concentrate on his campaign for the Ejisu parliamentary seat.

“I don’t understand his claim that the demonstration was unnecessary. I don’t understand that word. How can you say that the demonstration was unnecessary? I don’t agree with his claim that the protest was not necessary.

“If you want peace, we will give you peace, but people don’t like peace. Our football is in a bad state. He (Nyantakyi) even stated that since his exit, Ghana has not been able to qualify for the knockout phase of a tournament. This means that the football is bad now.

“He destroyed it with his corruption and those who came after him made it worse. The demonstration was an exercise of our constitutional rights,” he said.

In a recent interview with Captain Smart, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who is vying for the Ejisu constituency seat, criticized the decision of Songo, Saddick Adams, and several sports journalists to organize a demonstration.

Nyantakyi argued that instead of taking to the streets, the conveners should have opted to submit their grievances to the GFA through a written petition.

“I don’t agree with the Save Ghana Football demonstration. That protest was not necessary. They should have simply put their petition on paper and submitted it to the GFA,” he told Onua TV.

The “Save Ghana Football” protest witnessed a significant turnout of Ghanaians who marched through the streets of Accra, holding placards to voice their grievances against both the Ghana Football Association and the government.

You must all reject him – Jerome Otchere descends on Countryman Songo over insults on John Paintsil

Renowned sports journalist Jerome Otchere has strongly criticised the disrespectful insults directed at Black Stars assistant coach John Paintsil by Adom TV’s Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo.

Otchere, a former editor of Kotoko Express, expressed his dismay over Songo’s verbal abuse of Paintsil on his social media page on Friday, March 22, 2024.

He condemned Songo’s behaviour as a violation of journalistic ethics and emphasized the importance of condemning such actions.

Otchere also criticized Songo for resorting to insults when addressing individuals with differing opinions. While acknowledging Paintsil’s comments on the ‘Save Ghana Football’ demonstration, Otchere stressed the importance of media professionals maintaining decorum and respect in their discourse.

“Songo’s verbal abuse of @GhanaBlackstars Deputy Coach, John Painstil, on live television and radio is utterly condemnable. Multimedia must take a grim view of his misconduct and act accordingly because such a stream of unwarranted, barefaced, hateful, insults is not entertained in any civil society.

“What kind of media culture are we building? I know he and of course, his admirers will disagree with me and predictably, they will let me have my dose of the uncouth language they speak of all who dissent on his style of sports presentation.

“At this stage, I do not care because some of these things should be called what they are — WRONG! They must have no place in sane media and civil society. I am not perfect but if in our work or lives, our duty is not to set good examples for others to follow, then we are wasting whatever we have been given.

“We all have our take on anyone working for the Black Stars. We all like or do not like one or two things the team and their officials do. That is normal but to mount media platforms to wash a national figure in the manner, Songo must be rejected by all right-thinking members of the sports and media fraternity,” he shared on X (formerly Twitter).

A circulating video on social media captures Songo directing inappropriate and ethically questionable remarks towards John Paintsil following Paintsil’s appointment as deputy coach of the Black Stars.

Songo appears to have taken offense at Paintsil’s public statement regarding a demonstration held on February 14, 2024, interpreting it as a personal attack since Songo was involved in organizing the protest.

Meanwhile, John Paintsil is currently in Morocco with the Black Stars, preparing for their upcoming match against Nigeria on Friday, March 22, 2024. The team will then face Uganda on March 26 to conclude the international break for March 2024.

“Tomorrow he will feel his foolishness” – Countryman Songo descends on John Paintsil over demo comments

Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, a controversial sports journalist, has expressed his intention to address former Black Stars right-back John Paintsil over what he sees as unfavourable remarks about the condition of Ghanaian football.

Countryman Songo believes that John Paintsil’s comments on UTV’s United Showbiz programme on Saturday, February 17, 2024, presented a distorted view of the state of Ghanaian football. As a result, he plans to discuss Paintsil’s remarks on his Fire for Fire show.

“Tomorrow will be scary. He will feel his foolishness,” he tweeted on Sunday, February 18, 2024, in reaction to a tweet highlighting Paintsil’s comment.

Some Ghanaians have taken to social media to bash John Paintsil after he attempted to refute suggestions that Ghana football is in poor condition in his remarks on UTV.

The former Fulham defender called for clarity on the matter, insisting that the failures of the Black Stars in recent tournaments are not enough evidence of the poor state of football in the country.

“I need to know the point of the demonstration. If it’s Ghana football, then we are not talking about the national team. The national team comes once every four months,” John Paintsil said.

“Even when we talk about the Black Stars, they qualified for the World Cup. We have to see that we are still building. It’s not the responsibility of the FA to look after local-based players. It’s up to the teams to develop well,” Paintsil said.

He said, “Every national team coach has a philosophy, and they want to do well to improve their CV. It’s not the FA that determines which local player is called. The so-called interference is hearsay; there is no truth in that.”

Coaching not the problem now, but the ‘greedy’ GFA search committee – Songo

Sports broadcaster Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, has expressed his belief that the five-member committee established by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should demonstrate honesty by resigning from their positions.

Songo asserts that there are significant matters within Ghanaian football that must be addressed before the selection of the next Black Stars coach.

He emphasises the importance of resolving these internal issues before proceeding with the appointment process.

Songo advises the committee members not to be influenced by the monetary compensation they receive as sitting allowances and to prioritize making the right decisions for the future of Ghanaian football.

“Coaching is not the solution, the five-member committee are the problem. Common sense should tell them that what they are doing is not right,” the sports broadcaster said.

He added, “When somebody gives you a job and you the person taking the job realise that this job has problems that need to be taken care of, you should say no. Rather they are thinking about the money they can earn from sitting at the meeting.”

Songo expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of Mark Addo who is Chairman of the Committee saying, “The one leading the committee is the one who led us to appoint Milovan Rajevac.”

With just a week remaining until the highly anticipated demonstration against the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Countryman Songo, the host of the ‘Fire for Fire’ afternoon sports show on Adom TV and Asempa FM, is already immersed in excitement.

Patrick Osei-Agyemang, the spirited presenter, has taken to the principal streets of Accra to actively campaign and garner support for the impending protest.

In a video obtained by Adomonline.com, Countryman Songo was observed proudly wielding a placard containing details about the protest, passionately encouraging Ghanaians to join the cause.

Communities, visibly delighted by his individual effort to rally support for this crucial national initiative, expressed their joy by cheering him on with resounding shouts of encouragement.

Set for Wednesday, February 14, the demonstration aims to demand accountability from the GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Countryman Songo, the lead convener, will be joined by other influential journalists such as Saddick Adams, Nana Yaw Kesse, Veronica Commey, and many more.

Under the hashtag #SaveGhanaFootball, participants of the protest are expected to converge at the Obra Spot at Nkrumah Circle at 9 am. The march will wind through the streets of Accra, concluding at the Independence Square.

The active involvement of these influential figures underscores the significance of the protest and the collective determination of Ghanaians to reshape the narrative of football in the country.

A team of sports journalists, including Songo and Obama, has received permission from the police to organise a protest addressing the challenges currently faced by Ghanaian football.

Saddick Obama, a member of the group, informed the media on January 31, 2024, that they were content with the support received from the police following a meeting at the regional command earlier that day.

“The police wish they could join because we all love football; we don’t have a fight with anyone or hatred towards anyone. The agreed timelines and conditions are favourable.

“It is a simple march to present a petition to the authorities; this is about a common passion that we want to protect,” he explained.

Per reports, other journalists participating in the march include Countryman Songo, Veronica Commey, and Charles Osei Assibey.

The march follows the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 African Cup of Nations, where they exited in the first round with only two points in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) has faced criticism for forming a committee to select the next Black Stars coach after firing Chris Hughton.

Stop these GFA ‘thieves’ from looking for a new coach – Countryman Songo tells govt

Controversial sports journalist Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo, has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to intervene and prevent the Ghana Football Association (GFA) from proceeding with the search for the next Black Stars coach.

Following the dismissal of coach Chris Hughton after Ghana’s exit from the 2023 AFCON, the GFA established a 5-member committee, led by vice president Mark Addo, to find the next Black Stars coach.

Countryman Songo contends that the GFA has overseen the appointment of four coaches since 2019, resulting in unsatisfactory outcomes. He suggests that the GFA aims to select a coach they can easily manipulate and influence in terms of player selection.

“The government of Ghana should dissolve the committee because it’s a waste of time and taxpayers’ resources. No one should sit down and allow them to proceed with this. These are the same people who brought in Milovan, Otto Addo and now Chris Hughton, Songo stated.

He added, “They should rather be apologising to Ghanaians so we see the next way forward. They have destroyed the Black Stars and our football…”

“They want to bring their coach so that they can use him to enrich themselves with taxpayers’ monies. Akufo-Addo and Bawumia should not allow these so-called football people to search for our next coach,” Songo said on Adom TV.

Kurt Okraku can’t run unopposed, it’s not fair – Countryman Songo

Controversial sports journalist Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, is advocating for the reinstatement of George Afriyie to the Ghana Football Association’s Presidential Elections.

Afriyie, who aspired to become GFA President, was disqualified from the elections due to his failure to meet the required nomination criteria set by the GFA elections’ vetting committee.

Despite appealing his disqualification to the Appeals Committee in hopes of reversing the decision, Afriyie’s appeal was ultimately rejected.

As a result, with the current GFA president, Kurt Okraku, poised to run uncontested, Countryman Songo is calling on the vetting committee to reconsider their decision and allow George Afriyie to participate in the electoral competition.

Songo stated, “How can the GFA president run unopposed? It’s not fair; there should be competition. Competition is vital in situations like this. No one should bypass the electoral process while others face injustice. We want Ghana football to thrive.”

He pointed out that in the run-up to the 2016 General Election, Paa Kwesi Nduom, the former PPP flagbearer, encountered a comparable disqualification by the Electoral Commission.

Nevertheless, the courts sided with him, permitting him to rectify mistakes in his nomination documents and participate in the elections.

“Even during the general elections, Paa Kwesi Nduom was disqualified, and he took the matter to the appeals committee. The court ruled that he should be allowed to contest because if there is an error in his application forms, he needs more time to correct them. So why disqualify George Afriyie?” Songo questioned.

Meanwhile, George Afriyie is reportedly planning to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Countryman Songo comments on Otumfuo’s dissolution of Kotoko board

Former member of the disbanded Asante Kotoko management team, Patrick Osei Agyemang, has humbly appealed to the club’s patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

During his passionate commentary on the Fire for Fire show, Songo stated that Otumfuo has full authority to make any decision concerning Asante Kotoko.

Songo even playfully suggested that if Otumfuo desires, he could exchange his royal stool for the football pitch.

“Otumfuo, take your team and do whatever you wish with it. Nana, in all respect, if you want to play the game, you can choose to do that. Nana, in all respect, if you to turn yourself into a spectator, you can do that.

“You can keep the team and go public with it whenever you want to. If you don’t want to play the league again …. When I’m called to duty, I will do it. Otumfuo has taken his team and I’m genuinely happy,” he said.

Songo’s effusions come on the back of the dissolution of the management and board committees of the club by Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

The patron of Asante Kotoko opted against extending the mandate of the board after their three-year term expired.

Rumors circling in the media space however indicate that Kwame Kyei who is the board chair will retain his seat.

Per a report by Nhyira FM, Kwame Kyei is likely to retain his position as the executive board chairman of the club.

Kwame Kyei, per the report, favors Frederick Acheampong who is a member of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association as the Chief Executive Officer of the club.

It is also believed that former Ghana coach, Kwasi Appiah will be the next head coach of the club as he has already held talks with Otumfuo on the move.

Despite not being his appointment, Kwame Kyei is believed to be open to the appointment of Kwasi Appiah and has communicated that to Manhyia.

Another member of the old hierarchy who is likely to retain her role is Akosua Dentaa Amonteng as the International Relations Manager of the club.

Though there has been no mention of the number of appointees, it is believed that it will take the same shape as the previous one.

The 12-member board of Asante Kotoko which was constituted by the Manhyia Palace in May 2020 has ended its three-year mandate, winning only the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League during their tenure.

The board comprised Dr. Kwame Kyei, as Board Chairman; Mr. Jude Arthur- Vice Chairman, Kwadwo Boateng Gyamfi, Kwasi Osei Ofori, Kwamena Mensah, Miss Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Mr. Kofi Amoah Abban, Mr Martin Osei Kwaku Brobbey.

The rest are; Mr. James Osei Brown, Mr. Kofi Amoah Abban, MD of Rickworld Oil Group, Mr. Martin Osei Kwaku Brobbey, CEO of Lexta Ghana Limited, Mr. James Osei Brown, CEO of Joshob Construction Company, Nana Ankobeahene of Asanteman – Baffour Kwame Kusi, Alhaji Lamin and Joseph Yaw Adu.

The Asante Kotoko management led by Nana Yaw Amponsah of which Akosua Dentaa Amoateng was also dissolved.

What is your playing style? – Countryman Songo asks Chris Hughton

Sports broadcaster Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, has strongly criticized Black Stars coach Chris Hughton, accusing him of failing to establish a clear playing style for the national team.

With only one victory and two draws in recent matches since Hughton’s appointment, concerns have been raised by fans who desire to see the team achieve more wins.

Countryman Songo, a vocal critic of the Black Stars, expressed his disappointment with the team’s recent performance against Madagascar.

According to him, Chris Hughton has not been able to coin a playing style for the Black Stars and this has been evident in the poor performance of the team.

“We have to be able to tell the formation and tactics that the Black Stars are playing. What is the system that this coach is playing, he doesn’t have one. We haven’t developed the Black Stars.

“Let’s pay attention to our Black Stars and criticise them because their style of play is not nice currently,” Songo said.

He added that the Black Stars already have a playing style which is known by many football fans and all the coach has to do is to build on it to be able to be successful.

  • How Narteh Ogum announced his resignation to Kotoko management – Songo recounts

Communication Team Member of Asante Kotoko, Countryman Songo, has recounted how coach Prosper Narteh Ogum announced his resignation to the management and board of the club during a meeting.

Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum according to Countryman Songo announced his resignation as Asante Kotoko coach to the Board and Management during a zoom technical meeting on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

Claiming that Ogum was disrespectful in the said meeting, the Fire for Fire show host said the former WAFA coach after raising his voice severally in the meeting thanked some board and management members while adding that he has resigned despite efforts to get him to retract the statement.

“There was a meeting and we (Management) presented what you gave us to the Board and they called you to also come and have your say. He joined the meeting initially but the Board told him to wait until we are done with our presentation before he can join. He started saying all sorts of things as if he has been told to resign the moment he joined the meeting after our presentation.”

“He just thanked some Board and Management Members and said that he has resigned and he can’t continue with the job. Even the way he resigned was not proper per how he spoke. Nobody sacked him from the job.”

“Just because he was not allowed to get his way during the meeting. Even Man United don’t get all their targets in a transfer window. He wanted everyone to keep quiet for only him to talk”

He added that the club has accepted the resignation of coach Ogum and will move on from him.

“The Management has accepted his resignation and we won’t go back to him. We won’t allow Ogum to intimidate the Board and Management for him to be allowed to do what he wants to do in the club.”

“You can’t disrespect the Board and Management at a meeting and we will come and beg you to come back. He was just afraid to go to Africa and defend the league title that he won,” Countryman Songo.
