At least 189 corpses discovered at US ‘green’ funeral facility

Officials have found 189 decaying bodies at a funeral home in Colorado. This is more than the 115 bodies initially reported when they were first discovered a few weeks ago.

The authorities were notified about a bad smell at The Return to Nature Funeral Home. This funeral home specializes in eco-friendly burials.

One person in charge said that the scene was really terrifying and dangerous.

The FBI is assisting in figuring out who the remains belong to.

The Return to Nature Funeral Home is in Penrose, Colorado. It is about 30 miles (48km) south of Colorado Springs. They specialize in burials that don’t use any chemicals, like embalming fluid. Instead, they use biodegradable caskets to bury the remains.

After looking through the 2,500 square foot funeral home in Penrose, Colorado, which is about 30 miles south of Colorado Springs, officials found bodies that were not stored correctly. This caused a terrible and dangerous situation.

The bad conditions at the scene made one paramedic get a rash and had to be checked by a doctor, said Sheriff Allen Cooper of Fremont County.

In the state, it is okay to have eco-friendly funerals. However, if someone passes away, their body needs to be buried within a day or kept in a cool place.

The recently found bodies were taken out of the funeral home by October 13th and brought to the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

Officials say that the number of bodies that have been found might change because they are still working on identifying the bodies and investigating the situation.

Mr Cooper said that they are still investigating the incident, but they are also giving a lot of attention to the families that were affected. “We are committed to helping families as we transition to the next stage of this process by offering them the assistance they require. ”

A group of people, including the Fremont County Coroner’s Office and victim advocates, will inform the families. This will start within the next few days, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

The people who own the Return to Nature Funeral Home were having problems with their business. Recently, they did not pay their taxes on time and were forced to leave one of their properties.

Different groups and organizations, such as the FBI, are working together to investigate.

The Fremont County Coroner, Randy Keller, said before that it would take a long time to complete because they have to do forensic identification, like collecting fingerprints and DNA.

The FBI sent their teams to the area with special training and equipment to handle large-scale incidents.

The FBI wants families to fill out this form to help them with their investigation.
