The court said on Sunday that at least one case will be decided on Monday, but they didn’t say which one. However, the court did not follow its normal way of doing things, which makes it seem likely that the decision on the Trump ballot case will be announced soon.
The judges decided last week that they will listen to arguments about whether Trump can be charged with a crime for interfering in the election, including his actions in January. Attack on the United States on January 6, 2021. Capitol building. The court has decided to get involved in a controversial case that doesn’t have much of a past to show what to do. This makes people wonder if Trump will go to trial before the November election.
The ex-president was accused of breaking the law 91 times in four legal cases. Out of all the cases, the only one that is likely to go to trial is his state case in New York. He was charged with lying about his business records when he paid hush money to a porn actor. The trial for that case is scheduled for March 25, and the judge has shown that he is determined to continue with it.
This is a breaking news story. More details to come.
The animals are dangerous snakes that live in the southwest part of the United States. Their bites usually do not kill people.
But a specialist told media, that the person may have had an allergic response. The most recent deadly bite from a human is thought to have happened in 1930.
Dr Nick Brandehoff, who knows a lot about reptiles and toxins, told the media that the incident was not even in a medical journal.
He said that most bites make the area swell up and bleed.
Dr Brandehoff said that the death last week shows that we should respect all venomous animals.
Gila monsters are the biggest lizards in the country and can grow to about 22 inches (56cm) long, according to the Smithsonian Institution. They are named after the Gila River. They are called Gila River.
On Monday 12 February, a young creature that was about 12 inches long bit the man.
He went to the hospital and passed away last Friday.
The coroner’s office in Jefferson County checked the body, but needs more tests to figure out exactly how the person died.
You need a license to own a Gila monster in this state. The man had tarantulas and it’s legal to have them.
An investigator from Colorado Parks and Wildlife said his team was asked to take the two Gila monsters out of the house.
The lizards from the desert will be sent to a special place to get better. The animal that bit the man will be taken to a lab at the University of Northern Colorado first.
There, the poison will be taken out and looked at to find out more about why its bite caused its owner to die.
The pastor Eli Regalado and his wife Kaitlyn are accused of tricking people and making more than $3 million by selling cryptocurrency that is not worth much.
The Regalados are accused of making at least $1. 3 million from their plan between June 2022 and April 2023, according to prosecutors.
Mr Regalado said that his idea came from God, as said in court documents.
The pastor claimed that God told him that people who invest in INDXcoin, a cryptocurrency created by the Regalados, would become rich.
The Regalados, who are in charge of the Kingdom Wealth Exchange, gave INDXcoin to Christians in the Denver area.
The couple didn’t know about cryptocurrency. An auditor found INDXcoin to be unsafe, unsecure, and full of technical problems.
“Even though there was a report about it, the Regalados kept telling people that INDXcoin was a safe and profitable investment,” the report said.
The INDXcoin was not easy to turn into cash and was almost worth nothing. The couple spent the money on their extravagant way of living.
Officials said they found a Range Rover, fancy purses, jewelry, rented boats and snowmobile trips.
Colorado’s top financial regulator, Tung Chan, has accused someone of breaking the law by lying or cheating to investors.
She said her department found out about the problem because many people who invested in INDXcoin complained about losing money.
Mr Relagado talked about the accusations in a video he posted on Friday.
Colorado is saying it’s worthless because people who bought cryptocurrency can’t take their money out.
We started a market where people can trade things. The trade system broke down. Things got worse, and since then, we’ve only been hoping for a miracle from the Lord.
The pastor admitted that it was true that Mr. Relagado and his wife received $1. 3 million
“He said that out of the $1. 3 million, half of it went to the IRS and $200,000 went towards renovating our home, as the Lord had told us to do. ”
Lots of people wrote nice things in the comments on the video, like “sending prayers” and “keep going, be strong”.
The BBC has asked the Regalados for their thoughts or opinions.
In the complaint, Colorado prosecutors want to get temporary help, money for investors, and control of the Relagados’ property.
They have to go to Denver District Court next week.
The BBC looked at records from jail and found that Mr Boebert was arrested and then let go.
He was the person who called the police after an incident at the restaurant. He said he was a victim of domestic violence during the fight, according to CBS News, who works with the BBC in the US.
Mr Boebert said to the Denver Post that he didn’t plan to accuse anyone, and that he and his former wife were trying to talk about a tough situation.
After hearing that the police were looking into the incident this week, Ms. Boebert said: “I didn’t hit Jayson in the face and no one got arrested. ”
Before Mr Boebert got arrested, she made a statement on Sunday. She said she was talking to a lawyer because people were making up lies about her.
In September, Ms. Boebert was asked to leave a theatre in Denver while watching the musical Beetlejuice because she was accused of causing a disturbance.
When she said sorry for that thing, she mentioned that her hard divorce made her behave that way.
“I admitted to laughing and singing too loudly. ” Boebert said on a platform called X, which used to be called Twitter.
She is the Republican representative for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District and sits in the House of Representatives.
She said she will run for a new job in Colorado in 2024.
On Sunday, she said the restaurant incident was one more reason for her to move.
41-year-old Randy Roedema was found to be responsible for the death of Elijah McClain in October.
McClain, who was 23 years old, was held by the police and given a medicine called ketamine by a medic. He died after that, even though he had not done anything wrong.
The judge said he was surprised by the lack of care for McClain’s pain.
Another police officer, Jason Rosenblatt, was found not guilty of the same charges last year.
Both men were charged with using too much force and not listening to the unarmed man who kept saying, “I can’t breathe. ”
McClain died in Aurora, near Denver, three days after the police put him in a chokehold, injected him with ketamine to make him calm, and his heart stopped beating.
At the Colorado court on Friday, Judge Mark Werner said he was surprised by the lack of care for Elijah McClain‘s pain.
McClain was not a big threat to anyone and was restrained with handcuffs, according to Werner.
Roedema told the judge that he and the other officers acted the way they were trained to.
McClain’s death got more attention again after George Floyd was killed by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2020.
Before Elijah’s punishment, his mother Sheneen McClain said Roedema will always be a bully who has a badge. A gathering was held to ask for fairness for Elijah McClain on the one year anniversary of his passing.
The highest court in the United States will decide if Donald Trump can run for president. This is an important and historic case.
The judges decided to hear Mr. Trump’s appeal because Colorado wouldn’t let him be on the 2024 ballot there.
The court will decide the case in February and the decision will affect the whole country.
Lawsuits in many states are trying to remove Mr. Trump from his position. They say he was part of a riot at the US Capitol three years ago.
The legal problems depend on whether a constitutional amendment from the Civil War time means Mr. Trump can’t run for president.
The Supreme Court agreed to hear Mr. Trump’s appeal after 27 state attorneys general asked them to reject Colorado’s decision.
They say that taking Mr. Trump off the ballot would cause a lot of problems.
“The submission says that it is causing confusion in the upcoming election. ”
Moreover, it disrupts the specific duties of the Congress, the States, and the courts.
The 14th Amendment of the US Constitution says that people who have rebelled against the government can’t hold federal office. However, the former president’s lawyers say this rule doesn’t apply to the president.
His lawyers say that if the Colorado Supreme Court decision is followed, it would unlawfully prevent many voters in Colorado from voting and could also be used as an example to prevent many more voters across the country from voting.
Mr Trump is fighting against a decision made by voting officials in Maine to take his name off the ballot.
After the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday, Colorado’s Secretary of State Jena Griswold confirmed that the state’s ballots for the next presidential primary elections have been approved and that Mr. Trump’s name will be on them.
The votes in each state will decide which people can run for president in the November election.
Colorado is scheduled for the start of March, shortly after the Supreme Court makes a decision on Mr.
Ms Griswold said that the Supreme Court of the United States has agreed to hear the case, and because of this, Donald Trump will be listed as a candidate on the ballot.
Last month, the Colorado high court made a decision with 4 judges in favor and 3 against. It’s the first time in US history that the 14th Amendment has been used to reject a candidate from running for president.
This is the first time the Supreme Court will think about what the clause means.
Mr Trump is the top Republican candidate to compete against President Joe Biden, who is a Democrat, in the upcoming November election.
Courts in Minnesota and Michigan have rejected attempts to remove Mr. Trump from his position. Other cases in Oregon are waiting for a decision.
The US Supreme Court mainly has conservative judges, and three of them were chosen by Mr. Trump when he was president.
However, they mostly decided he lost his lawsuits against Mr. Biden in the 2020 election.
The court will hear the case quickly and will have a debate about it on 8 February.
Mr Trump’s lawyers have to submit their first written arguments by January 18th.
The people who want Mr. Trump to be disqualified have to give their reasons by January 31st.
The top US court getting involved reminds people of the 2000 election between George Bush and Al Gore, which also went to the Supreme Court.
The court with mostly conservative judges stopped the vote recount in Florida, which helped Mr. Bush win the election.
Professor Cart Tobias from the University of Richmond says that the “very fast” process was expected and needed because there are more and more cases being filed in different states across the country.
With the state primary elections coming up soon, election officials in many states need to get ready and plan for smooth voting processes on short notice.
Cases at the Supreme Court usually take between four and 12 months, which is much longer than the few weeks currently set for justices.
The court will probably make a decision before the Super Tuesday election in March, when Colorado and other states will choose who they want to run for president.
On the day of the riot at the US Capitol, people who support Mr. Trump went into Congress while the lawmakers were officially declaring Mr. Biden as the winner of the election.
On that day, the former president spoke at a gathering outside the White House. He said things that were not true about the election and told the crowd to “fight like hell”, but also to walk “peacefully” to the Capitol.
People who disagree with Mr. Trump say he shouldn’t be allowed to be president because of what he did during the riot and because he tried to change the election result in states that he lost.
Mr Trump is being tried in federal court and state court in Georgia for trying to change the 2020 election result. But he has not been charged with inciting a riot in either case.
Colorado’s Supreme Court has declared that Donald Trump is ineligible to run for president in the state in 2024, citing a constitutional insurrection clause.
The 4-3 decision stated that Trump engaged in an insurrection during the US Capitol riot nearly three years ago. While this ruling applies specifically to Colorado’s primary election on March 5, it could impact the general election in the state next November.
Trump’s campaign plans to appeal to the US Supreme Court, deeming the decision “completely flawed.” This marks the first use of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to disqualify a presidential candidate.
The ruling is only applicable within Colorado, contrasting with failed attempts in New Hampshire, Minnesota, and Michigan.
The justices wrote in their ruling: “We do not reach these conclusions lightly. We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us.
“We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”
The recent ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court marks a reversal of a prior decision by a Colorado judge. Initially, the judge ruled that the 14th Amendment’s insurrection ban did not apply to presidents, as the section did not explicitly mention them.
However, the same judge concluded that Donald Trump participated in an insurrection during the US Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. The new decision by the Colorado Supreme Court, effective from January 4, 2024, on the eve of the state’s presidential primary ballot deadline, deems Trump ineligible to run for president in Colorado.
Steven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, called the ruling “completely flawed” and lambasted the justices, who were all appointed by Democratic governors.
“Democrat Party leaders are in a state of paranoia over the growing, dominant lead President Trump has amassed in the polls,” Mr Cheung said in a statement.
“They have lost faith in the failed Biden presidency and are now doing everything they can to stop the American voters from throwing them out of office next November.”
Mr Cheung added that Mr Trump’s legal team would “swiftly file an appeal” to the US Supreme Court, where conservatives hold a 6 to 3 majority.
The legal bid to take Trump off ballot, explained
Representatives for Mr Biden’s re-election bid declined to comment on the Colorado ruling. But a senior Democrat affiliated with the campaign told CBS News, the BBC’s US partner, that the decision would help Democrats by supporting their argument that the US Capitol riot was an attempted insurrection.
The source said it would also aid Democrats in showcasing “the stark differences” between Mr Trump and Mr Biden.
Republican lawmakers condemned the decision, including House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson, who called it “a thinly veiled partisan attack”.
“Regardless of political affiliation, every citizen registered to vote should not be denied the right to support our former president and the individual who is the leader in every poll of the Republican primary,” he said.
On the campaign trail Mr Trump’s Republican primary rivals also assailed the ruling, with Vivek Ramaswamy pledging to withdraw his name from the ballot if Mr Trump’s candidacy is not reinstated.
Mr Trump, speaking at a campaign event in Iowa on Tuesday night, did not address the ruling. But a fundraising email sent by his campaign to supporters said “this is how dictatorships are born”.
The Colorado Republican Party also responded, saying it would withdraw from the state’s primary process if the ruling was allowed to stand.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (Crew), the group that brought the case, welcomed the ruling.
“It is not only historic and justified, but is necessary to protect the future of democracy in our country,” the group’s president, Noah Bookbinder, said in a statement.
The 14th Amendment was ratified after the American Civil War. Section 3 was intended to block secessionists from returning to previous government roles once southern states re-joined the Union.
It was used against Confederate president Jefferson Davis and his vice-president Alexander Stephens, both of whom had served in Congress. It has seldom been invoked since.
Mr Trump lost the state of Colorado by a wide margin in the last presidential election. But if courts in more competitive states followed suit on Tuesday’s ruling, Mr Trump’s White House bid could face serious problems.
During a one-week trial in Colorado last month, the former president’s lawyers argued he should not be disqualified because he did not bear responsibility for the US Capitol riot.
But in its ruling, the Colorado Supreme Court majority disagreed.
They said Mr Trump’s messages before the riot were a “call to his supporters to fight and… his supporters responded to that call”.
Carlos Samour, one of three justices who dissented, argued the government could not “deprive someone of the right to hold public office without due process of law”.
“Even if we are convinced that a candidate committed horrible acts in the past – dare I say, engaged in insurrection – there must be procedural due process before we can declare that individual disqualified from holding public office,” he wrote.
Mr Trump is facing four criminal cases, including one federal and one state case in Georgia related to his alleged election subversion efforts.
America has recorded 609 multiple-victim shootings so far in 2022, according to The Gun Violence Archive.
It’s the third year in a row that the country has surpassed 600 mass shootings.
The data paints a disturbing picture of increased gun violence over the last eight years.
The US set a chilling record earlier this month amid a spate of recent mass shootings: This year marks the third in a row that the country has recorded more than 600 multiple-victim shootings, according to gun violence data.
The Club Q shooting in Colorado Springs that left five people dead and 17 wounded on Sunday marked the 601st mass incident in 2022, according to The Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit that tracks and records shootings and gun violence throughout the country.
The archive calls mass shootings an “American phenomenon,” and defines the incidents as any attack in which there are at least four victims shot, injured, or killed by a gun, excluding the perpetrator.
Tragedy struck again just two days after the Club Q shooting when a Virginia Walmart manager opened fire at a store in Chesapeake, according to authorities, killing six employees and marking the 607th multiple-victim shooting in 2022 thus far.
As of Thanksgiving day, there have been 609 mass shootings this year.
With more than a month left in the year, the US is on pace to reach 675 mass shootings before 2022 ends, according to The Gun Violence Archive, which would be the second-highest number of multiple-victim shootings since the nonprofit started tracking gun violence in 2013.
The archive recorded 690 mass shootings in 2021 as gun violence peaked while the Covid-19 pandemic abated, and 610 shootings in 2020.
“GVA had never logged a month of 60+ mass shootings before 2020,” the nonprofit tweeted after the Club Q shooting. “It happened five times in 2020, six times in 2021, and now six times again this year.”
The data paints a disturbing picture of increased gun violence in the last eight years.
In 2014, the archive recorded 273 mass shootings. By 2017 — just five years ago — that number had jumped to 348. There was another significant increase between 2019, which saw 417 multiple-victim incidents, to 2020, in which there were 610 recorded mass shootings.
The 2022 statistics come out to an average of 1.86 mass shootings per day, The Gun Violence Archive said.
Following the Colorado shooting, President Joe Biden condemned the “senseless attack,” and urged the country to “address the public health epidemic of gun violence in all of its forms.”
“Earlier this year, I signed the most significant gun safety law in nearly three decades, in addition to taking other historic actions,” Biden added. “But we must do more. We need to enact an assault weapons ban to get weapons of war off America’s streets.”
The Guinness Book of Recordshas named an Elderly dog, who is 22 years old, as the oldest living dog in the world.
Although the dog’s owner Alex Wolf of Colorado, USA, adopted him from a rescue shelter in 2002, more than 20 years ago, he was actually born on September 24, 2000, two years earlier.
Alex, who is now 40 years old, claims to have met him while attending a California university.
Speaking to Today, Alex said; ‘He’s been there every step of the way. ‘I’m so glad we got him. He’s the best.
‘If we were having a later night, he would stay up, and if I was sleeping in, he would sleep in. He was one of the guys.’
Asked what he thought was the secret to his longevity, he said: ‘I give him all the credit. He’s gotten a lot of love, and I think he’s just a strong dog. He’s been there every step of the way. I’m so glad we got him. He’s the best.’
Alex had intended to have a larger dog than 7kg Gino when he originally went to the animal shelter to get a puppy.
However, once he met the dog, he realized he was the one and never turned around.
He said: ‘I’ve taken great care of him over the years and he is still in relatively very good shape…and really cute still which is surprising considering his age!’
Despite his accomplishment, Gino wasn’t the oldest dog ever recorded.
Bluey, an Australian cattle dog who lived to be 29 years old before being euthanized in 1939, holds the record for the longest lifespan.
A medium-sized dog typically lives 10 to 13 years.
People at a gay club in the USstate of Colorado have been hailed as heroes for subduing a gunman and preventing a deadly shooting from being even worse.
Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers said one patron grabbed the attacker’s own gun and hit him with it during the shooting in Club Q on Saturday night.
Another club-goer reportedly helped to keep the gunman pinned down until police arrived.
The gunman killed five people and injured 25 more before being arrested.
The suspect, named by police as 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich, is now in police custody.
Mayor Suthers described the intervention of several club-goers as an “incredible act of heroism”.
“The call came into the police at 11:57pm. Police were on the scene by 12:00 – an amazingly quick response,” he told CNN.
“This incident was over by 12:02, and that’s largely because of the intervention of at least one, possibly two, very heroic individuals who subdued this guy… appears to have taken his handgun with them… and used it to disable him… not shoot but hit him with the gun, and disable him.
“But for that, as tragic as this incident is… it could have been much, much worse but for these heroic actors,” the mayor added.
Praise also came from the governor of Colarado, as well as the owner of the club – who noted “dozens and dozens of lives” had been saved.
Police are still trying to confirm exactly how many people were injured, adding that some people took themselves to hospital.
An investigation is now under way to determine whether the shooting was a hate crime, and if more than one person was involved.
Questions are also being asked about the suspect, who had previously come to police attention over a bomb threat in 2021.
According to a police report at the time, his mother had called emergency services saying “he was threatening to cause harm to her with a homemade bomb, multiple weapons, and ammunition”.
‘Why did this have to happen?’
A statement on the Club Q Facebook page said it was “devastated by the senseless attack on our community”.
The venue was hosting a dance party at the time of the attack, and had planned to hold a performance event on Sunday evening to celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Joshua Thurman, 34, was in the club at the time of the shooting.
At first he thought the shots were part of the music, he told the Colorado Sun, but he later ran to take shelter in the club dressing room.
“When I came out there were bodies on the floor, shattered glass, broken cups, people crying,” he said.
“There was nothing keeping that man from coming in to kill us. Why did this have to happen? Why? Why did people have to lose their lives?”
Mr Thurman, who lives near the club, said it was an important part of the local gay community. He believes he knows one person who was killed.
Bartender Michael Anderson said he heard three bangs and saw the “outline of a gun” in the suspect’s hands.
“What I can’t stop thinking about is the visuals of the evening. Of the bodies, of the blood, of the broken glass, of the carnage in the wreckage and seeing a safe place turned into a war zone,” he told KKTV.
President Joe Biden said Americans “cannot and must not tolerate hate”.
“Places that are supposed to be safe spaces of acceptance and celebration should never be turned into places of terror and violence. Yet it happens far too often,” he said in a statement from the White House.
In 2016, 49 people were killed in a shooting at the Pulse gay club in Orlando, Florida. At the time it was the deadliest mass shooting in US history.
