  • Aboagye, Ofori arrives in Black Stars camp in Cape Coast

    Debutant Clifford Aboagye has joined his colleagues in the camp of the senior national team, the Black Stars in Cape Coast, ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan on Thursday, November 12, at the Cape Coast Stadium.

    The talented midfielder was given a late call-up following the withdrawal of some invited players due to COVID-19.

    Aboagye would be making his appearance for the Blck Stars for the first time in his career.

    He was joined by number one goalkeeper Richard Ofori, who also doubles as the First Deputy Captain of the team, to prepare for the Sudan clash.

    In all 18 players are currently in camp.

    The Black Stars have already undergone the mandatory COVID-19 tests which are part of protocols to be observed before the encounter.

  • Clifford Aboagye’s agent confirms interest from Spanish clubs

    The agent of Ghanaian midfielder, Clifford Aboagye, has confirmed interest from several Spanish La Liga teams.

    The 25-year-old who currently plays for Mexican side Club Tijuana, has emerged strongly on the radar of several European clubs.

    The former Ghana youth star has been on cloud nine since joining Mexican Liga MX side Atlas FC from Spanish outfit Granada in 2017.

    He enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at Querétaro before joining Club Tijuana on a permanent basis.

    The hugely talented Ghanaian has been linked with a host of Spanish sides including Getafe, Villareal, Valencia and Osasuna.

    “Yes, there are a number of interest for Clifford,” he told GHANAsoccernet

    “There are a number of Spanish clubs especially who are interested but we must understand that he has a contract with Club Tijuana and so that must be respected.

    “A lot will depend on the club and the player on his future. He is playing so well in the Mexican league and so not surprised about the immense interest.”

    Villareal coach Javier Calleja Revilla is determined to bring the highly-rated midfielder to the Estadio de la Cerámica.

    Ghana Youth star, Clifford Aboagye got 90 minutes under his belt for his Club Tijuana on Saturday and was impressive despite his team’s heavy defeat away to Club America in the Mexico-Liga Mx.

    Club Tijuana were beaten 4-0 by Club America in their second Premier League game of the campaign on Saturday.

    Goals by Valdez Bruno, Richard Sanchez, and a brace from Henry Josue Martin Mex secured the win for the Mexican giants at home.

    The 25-year-old continues to impress at his new side since joining the club from Queretaro FC this summer.

    Former Ghana U-20 World Cup star, Clifford Aboagye, is excited ahead of the start of the Mexican league after joining giants Xolos Tijuana.

    The 25-year old is eager to start his career for his new club after signing a three year deal with Xolos from Club Querétaro.

    The 2013 FIFA U-20 Bronze Ball winner made the switch this summer after an outstanding season with Querétaro, making him the first African to play for Xolos.

    “Thank you very much Xolos for this new challenge,” Aboagye posted on Social Media.

    The former Inter Allies midfielder was heavily linked with a move to rivals Santos Lagunawith Club Necaxa.

    Ghanaian midfielder Clifford Aboagye has taken to Twitter to bid farewell to Querétaro FC following the end of his loan deal.

    Aboagye joined the Mexican Liga MX outfit on a season-long loan from Atlas FC with an option to sign a permanent deal.

    However, the former Granada midfielder has turned down the option to sign a permanent contract at the club despite being a fan favourite.

    Liga MX champions Santos Laguna are believed to be the leading club for his signature with Club Necaxa also monitoring his situation.

    Both clubs are reported to be prioritizing a move for the diminutive midfielder, who has made a combined 103 appearances in the Liga MX since joining three years ago.

    The 25-year-old tok to Twitter to issue a farewell message to the club.

    “Thank you very much @Club_Queretaro for opening the doors when I needed it most. It was a magnificent year full of good mementos. He especially mentioned the fans for always being in the moments. It was a pleasure to wear these colors and they will be in my heart !! ALWAYS ROOSTERS.”

    The former Inter Allies midfielder netted one goal in 33 matches for the side.

  • ‘My stature has been a hindrance’ – Clifford Aboagye

    Former Ghana U-20 star Clifford Aboagye has revealed that his height has been a hindrance to his career, especially in the early days of his football development.

    The former FIFA U-20 Bronze ball-winner disclosed that he was rejected at trials because of his height disadvantage, but adds he never gave up.

    “In the early days of my career at Inter Allies, it was a challenge even with all my skills,” he told Tv3. “My stature has been a hindrance to me but I never thought of giving up because I know the talent I have and what I can do with the ball especially in midfield,” he added.

    He continued:”With this stature, you get people saying you need to build up on your body but I know the qualities I have, not all players have that quality so I have always been firm on my stature.”

    The 25-year old now plays for Mexican club Querétaro F.C. on loan from Club Atlas.

    Aboagye spent four years in Spain, where he played for Granada B before deciding to make a move from Europe to North America.

  • I am rather grateful than regretful – Clifford Aboagye

    Ghanaian midfielder Clifford Aboagye has opened up on his career path so far and says he is grateful than regretful.

    The former Inter Allies player has been tipped to be the next big thing for Ghana football having starred in the FIFA U-20 tournament in 2013.

    However, 25-year-old is still yet to realise his full potential since the FIFA tournament.

    Speaking on Instagram with Juliet Bawuah, the midfielder said: Ghanaians are expecting me to be playing in one of the big Leagues in Europe and so far as I have the talent, I believe with hard work I can break through. I am rather grateful and not regretful.

    Aboagye was named the Bronze Ball winner of the 2013 tournament with Manchester United’s Paul Pogba picking up the Golden ball and the former believes that despite his slow career progression all hope is not lost.

    People are thinking I should be at par with my colleagues I played the World Cup without when I back I feel I should be grateful. I feel it is a gradual process and I have a lot of years ahead of of me to continue my career.

    Aboagye featured for Ghana in the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup aiding the West Africa nation to a third place finished.

    He currently plays Mexican top-flight side Queretaro FC.

  • Gallos de Querétaro star Clifford Aboagye rues defeat against Club America

    Gallos de Querétaro midfielder Clifford Aboagye has lamented on their 2-1 loss against Club America in the Mexican Liga MX over the weekend.

    Colombian forward Andres Ibarguen opened the scoring for Club America in the 27th minute after their electric start to the game.

    But Ariel Nahuelpan restored parity for Querétaro on the stroke of half time.

    However, Ibarguen scored again in the 74th minute to clinch maximum points for the visitors.

    “We lost a game, we have not lost the league,” he said.

    “It was a very close match, we have to continue because we have very good things to take into account and correct mistakes.”

    Querétaro will play Gallos del Necaxa in their next match on Sunday and Aboagye believe they can appease their fans with a victory.

    The last game between the two sides ended 3-0 in favour of Gallos del Necaxa in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Apertura tournament.

    “We can win, we all know what happened there in the league, it was a good game and we have to go win.”

  • Clifford Aboagye thankful to everyone for support during accident

    Ghanaian midfielder Clifford Aboagye has spoken for the first time after being involved in a fatal crush while driving on the streets of Mexico.

    He shared an update on events that took place last Sunday when his yellow Chevrolet saloon car was involved in a crush.

    Through the Twitter account of his club, Querétaro they published a video of the Ghanian midfielder in which he thanked the people who worried about his health.

    “I want to thank you very much for your messages. Yes I had an accident, but there was no physical damage to me, people, I feel very well, thank you all very much,” he said.

    Clifford crushed his car while driving on Paseo de la República, at kilometer 10, at the height of the Jurica Industrial Park, in the direction of Querétaro, after he stopped his vehicle to find his wallet, when he was hit by a pick-up truck
