Cole Palmer says Lamine Yamal is the best player in the world

Chelsea’s star Cole Palmer has tipped Barcelona talent Lamine Yamal as the best player in football at the moment, citing his current form and performance.

He said Yamal’s confidence and exceptional dribbling skills make him exciting to watch. For him, he does it way better than some mature players who may be labelled as the best in the game.

With the Spanish prodigy’s current performance and skills, Palmer believes that the 17-year-old is the world’s best currently.

“I think he’s the best player in the world, to be honest. I feel like everything they do goes through him. When you watch him, he’s incredible.

“You can tell from the way he’s confident, he’s got no fear, and I love watching him,” he said.

Many would say the 2024/2025 season has been Yamal’s best yet, as he has delivered brilliant performances.

He has scored 8 goals in 33 games with 13 assists. In the UEFA Champions League, he played 13 games, scoring five goals and providing three assists.

His stellar performance helped his team win the 2024/2025 La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup, although they were unfortunately eliminated in the semi-final stage of the Champions League.

Some pundits and former footballers believe he is a potential contender for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

  • Maresca unwilling to discuss Sancho’s future now

Maresca unwilling to discuss Sancho’s future now

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has declined to comment on the future of Jadon Sancho, emphasizing that the current focus should remain on the team’s upcoming matches rather than the winger’s potential permanent move.

Sancho, who is on loan at Chelsea from Manchester United, has struggled to make a significant impact, scoring just twice in 29 appearances and enduring an 18-game goal drought. The 25-year-old joined Chelsea with a £25m obligation to buy, but reports suggest a £5m penalty clause could come into play if the Blues choose not to exercise that option.

Asked about the possibility of signing Sancho permanently, Maresca stated, “I’m completely focused on the nine games, two months to go, I’m completely focused about that. Then what happens in summer, we’ll see.”

He added, “The Jadon situation doesn’t change. In terms of numbers, he could do better, no doubt. It is not just about Jadon but we have more players in the same situation.”

Maresca also touched upon a recent incident in which he canceled a day off for the players not selected for international duty after a 3-0 loss to Chelsea’s Under-21s. While the move sparked some controversy, Maresca downplayed the significance, saying, “It is nothing, it is normal for the players to be relaxed during the international break.”

Looking ahead to Thursday’s Premier League match against Tottenham, Maresca shared positive news regarding several players returning from injury. Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Noni Madueke are all fit to play, which Maresca believes will benefit the team after a difficult spell with multiple injuries.

“It is good news,” Maresca said. “When they are not there for different reasons, we struggle. That is exactly what happened when we had five or six unbelievable months and then six or seven injuries in a row and lost something. It is good to finish with all of them.”

However, midfielder Romeo Lavia remains a concern, with Maresca confirming he has a “small problem” and is doubtful for the match against Tottenham.

  • Man City and Chelsea set to make about £97m from Club World Cup

Man City and Chelsea set to make about £97m from Club World Cup

Manchester City and Chelsea stand to receive as much as £97 million in prize money from this year’s FIFA Club World Cup, making it one of the most lucrative club tournaments in football history.

The total prize fund for the competition is £775 million, distributed among the 32 participating teams based on various factors. Of this, £407 million will be shared equally among all clubs, while £368 million will be awarded based on performance throughout the tournament.

For comparison, last season’s Premier League prize money ranged from £175.9 million for champions Manchester City to £109.7 million for Sheffield United, who finished bottom of the table.

FIFA’s ranking system, which considers both sporting success and commercial appeal, determines the amount each team earns simply for participating. European clubs, in particular, will receive a higher share than teams from other continents.

The top-ranked European team will earn £29.6 million just for taking part. If that team wins all its group-stage matches and goes on to lift the trophy, it could secure the maximum prize of £97 million.

    Prize money per stage:

    • Group-stage win: £1.5 million
    • Round of 16 qualification: £5.8 million
    • Quarter-finals: £10.2 million
    • Semi-finals: £16.3 million
    • Final victory: £31 million

As a result, Manchester City and Chelsea, the two Premier League representatives in the competition—having qualified through their Champions League triumphs—have the opportunity to claim the biggest prize money ever awarded in a seven-game format.

This year’s Club World Cup will be hosted in the United States from June 15 to July 13.

Previously an annual tournament featuring seven teams, the competition has now been expanded to 32 teams and will be held once every four years.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the new prize distribution as a reflection of the tournament’s status as “the pinnacle of club football.”

The competition will feature clubs from all six football confederations, including:

    • UEFA (Europe) – 12 teams
    • CONMEBOL (South America) – 6 teams
    • AFC (Asia) – 4 teams
    • CAF (Africa) – 4 teams
    • CONCACAF (North & Central America) – 4 teams
    • OFC (Oceania) – 1 team

The 12 European spots are allocated based on Champions League performances over the past four seasons, making UEFA the most represented confederation in the tournament.

With high stakes and a record-breaking prize pool, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup promises to be one of the most competitive and financially rewarding editions in history.

  • Media reports unrealistic – Chelsea’s Todd Boehly alleged sale of club, rift with co-owner

Media reports unrealistic – Chelsea’s Todd Boehly alleged sale of club, rift with co-owner

Todd Boehly has addressed speculation about whether he plans to sell his shares in Chelsea amid reports of a disagreement with Behdad Eghbali and Clearlake Capital.

Boehly, a billionaire from the United States, became a co-owner of Chelsea in 2022 alongside Eghbali and Clearlake Capital, a private equity firm. While Clearlake owns the majority stake of 61.5%, Boehly holds a smaller 13% share.

Since taking over, the new ownership group has invested over £1 billion ($1.3bn) in signing players. However, the team’s performances on the pitch have fallen short of expectations, leading to criticism. There have also been reports of tension between Boehly and Clearlake, particularly regarding plans for a new stadium, with some speculating that this could prompt Boehly to leave the club.

The US-based businessman, however, refuted the rumours of his exit as he told Bloomberg UK: “What the media writes about is not realistic. We’ve been aligned with what we are trying to do and trying to build. The status quo is something that is just fine. We learn from each other. We have to think about long-term what we are trying to accomplish.”

He added: “We’re going to be able to work it out any which way. If you look at the evolution of the team, we’ve been aligned on what we’re trying to do and what we’re trying to build. It’s a team that’s young, it’s a team that’s got long contracts. All these things were new. In order to do all these things we’ve done, it’s because we’re aligned. We’re executing on a plan that ultimately will have Chelsea where it belongs. We’re sitting in the top four of the table.”

On building a new home for the west London side, Boehly admitted the decision could lead to a parting of ways: “We have a big stadium development opportunity that we have to flesh out. That’s going to be where we’re either aligned or we ultimately decide to go different ways.”

  • WSL: Referee apologised – Nick Cushing after goal error

WSL: Referee apologised – Nick Cushing after goal error

Manchester City coach Nick Cushing has revealed that match officials apologized to him after a controversial decision denied his team a goal in their 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the Women’s Super League (WSL).

City took the lead through Kerolin, and they could have doubled their advantage when Jess Park scored after Kerolin was fouled near the penalty area. However, referee Kirsty Dowle blew the whistle for a free kick before allowing the play to continue, meaning Park’s goal did not count.

Chelsea took advantage of the situation, with Aggie Beever-Jones equalizing before Erin Cuthbert scored a late winner at the Etihad Stadium.

“The officials admit they got it wrong and should have played on,” Cushing said after the match.
“The frustrating thing is after the [Laura] Coombs foul earlier on, because we were so dangerous on the counter attack when the whistle was blown on Coombs I asked her to play advantage. But three minutes later, it happens.”

Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor sympathised with Cushing’s frustrations but praised her side for their tenacity in the second half.

“From my opinion, the referee whistled since the beginning, even when the ball was not going into the goal so I think she made the right decision and it’s difficult after when you see the result,” she said. “So I can understand their frustration.

“If I was the City manager I would probably be in the same place. But again, I don’t think it changed our belief going into the second half. We created a lot in the second half, 24 shots on goal, their keeper made really great saves, we could maybe have scored more.”

  • Palmer not fit for England games – Chelsea boss Maresca

Palmer not fit for England games – Chelsea boss Maresca

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that Cole Palmer is likely to miss England’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia due to a muscle injury.

Palmer suffered the injury during training and was unavailable for Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

This was the first time Chelsea played without him since April last year, when they suffered a 5-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Maresca believes it is unlikely that Palmer will be able to join Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

“I don’t think [he will be fit for England] to be honest,” Maresca said after the Arsenal defeat.

“His injury is from yesterday’s session. It’s a muscular problem…

“He needs a scan and the scan is planned for Monday morning.”

As well as Parker, Chelsea were also without striker Nicolas Jackson and winger Noni Madueke on Sunday – and Maresca rued the absent trio.

“It’s a huge difference. The three players who have the most goals for us [are] Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke, none of them were inside the pitch,” Maresca said.

“Two of them it’s already long term that they have been out. It’s normal that offensively that we can struggle a little bit.

“I think even until today we are second or third best attacking in the league. We’re doing well with the other players but we could do better with the players that are in this moment injured.”

Palmer has been involved in 20 of Chelsea’s 53 league goals this season, scoring 14 and assisting six. However, he has not found the back of the net in his last seven Premier League matches.

Maresca believes that taking a break could help him regain his top form.

“We don’t wish for a player’s injury but in Cole’s case at this moment, probably give him some rest physically and mentally it could be good,” added Maresca.

England play Albania on Friday in their first match under new head coach Tuchel as they start their qualification campaign for the World Cup in 2026, before playing Latvia at Wembley.

Abedi Pele’s iconic goal resurfaces as Chelsea goalkeeper faces backlash

Abedi Pele’s remarkable header from the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has resurfaced online after Mikel Merino scored a similar goal in Arsenal’s victory over Chelsea on Sunday, March 17, 2025.

Abedi’s goal was a crucial equalizer for Ghana in their semi-final match against Nigeria 33 years ago. The African football icon skillfully directed a corner kick into the far post from a tight angle, leveling the score.

A video of the goal was shared on X (formerly Twitter) after frustrated Chelsea fans complained about conceding a nearly identical goal against Arsenal in the London Derby.

In that match, Merino connected with Martin Ødegaard’s corner to score the winning goal at the Emirates Stadium, securing Arsenal’s triumph.

Many fans blamed Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, for poor positioning, calling it a ‘cheap’ goal. A disappointed Chelsea fan, using the handle @hasanalnaqour, voiced his frustration on X.

“How can you concede that!!!!,” he wrote as captain for the video of Merino’s header.

    Find video below:

Arsenal defeated Chelsea 1-0 in their recent Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium. The decisive moment came in the 20th minute when Mikel Merino scored a header from a Martin Odegaard corner.

Arsenal dominated much of the game, creating more chances, while Chelsea struggled to find their rhythm. Despite some late efforts, Chelsea couldn’t equalize, and Arsenal secured all three points.

  • Chelsea’s 2024 squad is most expensive ever – UEFA report

Chelsea’s 2024 squad is most expensive ever – UEFA report

Chelsea’s squad at the end of the 2024 financial year has been officially recognized as the most expensive ever assembled in terms of transfer fees, according to UEFA’s annual European Club Finance and Investment Landscape report.

The report, which analyzes financial trends across Europe’s top leagues, underscores the scale of spending by Premier League clubs.

It found that English teams increased their transfer spending by 17% in 2023, reaching a record €2.1 billion ($2.2bn). Notably, nine of the world’s 20 most expensive squads belong to Premier League clubs, with Chelsea leading the list.

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in the summer of 2022, Chelsea have signed 41 players across six transfer windows.

Their squad, valued at a staggering €1.656 billion at the close of the 2024 financial year, surpassed Manchester United’s 2023 squad, which cost €1.422 billion.

Financial records from July 2019 to June 2024 show that Chelsea’s spending outpaced all other European clubs, totaling nearly €2 billion in transfer fees. This figure is two-thirds more than Manchester City (€1.175bn) and Arsenal (€1.145bn), and significantly higher than Barcelona (€733m) and Liverpool (€657m).

Despite their record-breaking investment, Chelsea have struggled to translate spending into success. Under Boehly-Clearlake’s ownership, the club has failed to secure a trophy or qualify for the Champions League. Frustration among fans reached a boiling point ahead of their clash with Southampton at Stamford Bridge, with supporters staging a protest against the club’s management.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer meets up with his favorite dancehall artist Vybz Kartel

Chelsea’s winger, Cole Palmer, met his favorite musician Vybz Kartel during a visit to London. Vybz Kartel, a prominent Jamaican musician, was in England for the MOBO Awards, where he performed with dancehall queen Spice.

Palmer, who has Caribbean roots, loves Kartel’s music and has previously posted videos of himself singing Kartel’s songs. Photos shared on social media captured the touching moment when Palmer and Vybz Kartel met.

“The link up finally happened. Palmer x Palmer. Clarks part 2 loading…,” posted Palmer on Instagram.

Following his meeting with Vybz Kartel, old videos of him performing to one of his songs have been shared multiple times online.

Vybz Kartel, the Jamaican dancehall artist, was released from prison last year after serving 13 years. He had been convicted in 2014 for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, but his conviction was overturned in 2024 due to juror misconduct. Kartel’s release was a significant moment for his fans and the music community.

“This is their independence, their emancipation … We have always said this many times during interviews – God and time. We do the work while God grounded us in the faith and so were confident of this outcome,” said his lawyer, Isat Buchanan, as quoted by The Guardian.

The Black Stars’ official account on X (formerly Twitter) shared a heartfelt message, honoring Atsu’s important contribution to Ghanaian football and ensuring that he will not be forgotten.

“On this day 2 years ago, we lost Christian Atsu in the tragic Turkey earthquakes. His kindness, talent, and dedication to Ghana football will never be forgotten. Forever in our hearts.”

Chelsea in their tribute extended their condolence to their former player’s family and friends.

“Two years ago today we tragically lost Christian Atsu. Our thoughts continue to remain with Christian’s family and friends,” the club wrote on X.

Many football fans and Ghanaians have also joined in to honor Christian Atsu’s memory.

This is the current state of former CHelsea boss Roman Abramovich

Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is still living in Turkey after being hit with sanctions, and his £500 million ($610 million) superyacht remains marooned.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, the European Union and the UK government imposed sanctions on Abramovich. As a result, he agreed to sell Chelsea for £2.35 billion ($2.87 billion) to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. However, the money from the sale is reportedly frozen in a bank account and hasn’t been used.

Although Abramovich continues to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle, The Telegraph reports that his freedom to travel the world has been greatly restricted. For now, he is based in Turkey because he can no longer take his usual winter trips to the Caribbean, which were once a big part of his European lifestyle.

The Telegraph claims that Abramovich’s grandest boat, the £500m Eclipse, is moored in “comparatively modest surroundings” on Turkish water. His other vessels are also sat unused after seeing private and professional lives turned upside down.

Abramovich is said to still be worth £7.96 billion ($9.7bn), but he has been forced to set up camp in Turkey amid reports of initially moving into a waterfront property that came with a $40,000-a-month rental bill before basing himself in a sprawling villa that can be found in the upmarket district of Vanikoy on the banks of the Bosporus.

Abramovich had declared “I hope that I will be able to visit Stamford Bridge one last time to say goodbye to all of you in person” when severing ties with Chelsea, but that would appear to have become a distant dream for a man no longer able to travel in style while moving whenever and wherever he wants.

Chelsea eyeing a move to bring Marc Guehi back from Crystal Palace

Chelsea are reportedly looking to bring back Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.

The 24-year-old, who left Chelsea for Palace in 2021 in an £18m deal, is now on the Blues’ shortlist of defensive targets. This development comes under the club’s current ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

While Palace have not received any formal approach, Guehi’s representatives are aware of Chelsea’s interest. The defender has 18 months remaining on his five-year contract signed upon joining Palace.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Guehi reflects their broader search for a central defender, either in January or during the summer transfer window. The urgency has increased following Wesley Fofana’s severe hamstring injury, which manager Enzo Maresca believes could sideline him for the rest of the season.

However, sources close to Fofana are optimistic he could return to action much sooner than expected.

Chelsea are facing a defensive shortage, with Benoit Badiashile sidelined until at least February.

Marc Guehi, who has become a key player for Crystal Palace and England, is now a potential target for the Blues.

Guehi, 24, only made two senior appearances for Chelsea in the EFL Cup back in 2019 before moving on loan to Swansea City in the Championship. He later joined Palace, where he has flourished and earned 22 caps for England.

Crystal Palace previously rejected four bids from Newcastle United for Guehi during the summer transfer window, the highest offer reportedly reaching £65 million.

Meanwhile, Chelsea may also consider recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Palace to strengthen their defense. Additionally, Argentinian defender Aaron Anselmino has been brought back from his loan stint at Boca Juniors.

United are interested in Kolo Muani to help solve their goal-scoring issues, especially with Marcus Rashford likely to be sold this winter.

However, Chelsea is reportedly showing strong interest in the player, and with their current position in the top four, they could pose a significant threat to United’s pursuit.

Meanwhile, United is struggling in 14th place in the Premier League, which may make it more difficult to convince Kolo Muani to choose a move to Old Trafford.

Now I can relate with Mourinho’s anger – Essien talks his coaching experience

Chelsea and Ghana football legend Michael Essien has acknowledged the challenges that come with coaching.

Widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation, Essien transitioned into coaching after a 20-year playing career. He received a call from Tom Vernon, the founder of one of Ghana’s top football academies, which led him to this new path.

Since 2020, Essien has served as the assistant coach for Danish top-flight club FC Nordsjaelland (FCN). He has said that his experience with former managers has been invaluable in shaping his coaching career.

In an interview with the BBC, the 2012 Champions League winner discussed how his coaching journey has deepened his understanding of the frustrations faced by Jose Mourinho.

“I had some great, great managers that I was lucky to work under. I learnt a few things from Jose and from Ancelotti—his calmness and how he manages his players, the way he tried to put his arms around his players. Now I understand a bit more why Jose would get angry,” Essien told the BBC.

Essien, however, has no immediate plans to leave Nordsjaelland in search of managerial opportunities but is also not ruling out the possibility of becoming a head coach in the future, as football has always been a central part of his life.

“I’m not thinking about being a head coach. Not yet. But when I get there, I will develop my style of play around the FCN model of what we’re doing here. I have a few more years to go. Let’s see. Maybe I will get there.

“When I was playing, I never thought I would jump into this journey. But coming to the end of my career, I was thinking one day, ‘I’ve done football my whole life, and I think that’s what I do best. I should start doing something just to keep my routine going,’” he further added.

Essien played 256 times for Chelsea, winning the FA Cup four times, the Premier League two times, then the Champions League and League Cup.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer awarded England Men’s Player of the Year

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has been awarded the England Men’s Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season, as announced by the English Football Association on Tuesday.

At just 22 years old, Palmer outperformed Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who came in second and third place, respectively, in the voting conducted among England supporters.

Palmer made an immediate impact on the national team after his debut in November 2023, scoring in his first start against Bosnia and Herzegovina in May of this year.

Although he didn’t start any matches during the Euro 2024 tournament, Palmer contributed significantly by scoring England’s only goal in their 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final. He also provided the assist for Ollie Watkins’ decisive goal in the semifinal against the Netherlands.

In addition to his national team success, the former Manchester City player has excelled at the club level, netting 22 goals in the Premier League last season and scoring six times in his first seven appearances this campaign.

Currently, Palmer is preparing with the England squad for UEFA Nations League matches, facing Greece at Wembley on Thursday and then travelling to Finland three days later.

England captain Harry Kane was absent from Tuesday’s training session, opting for an individualised workout indoors after sustaining a right leg injury during a 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt over the weekend. Fortunately, the club has confirmed that he does not have a structural injury.

Should Kane be unable to play, Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke may get his chance, having waited seven years since his last appearance for England. Solanke has been included in interim manager Lee Carsley’s squad for the upcoming matches in October.

“I think over the years, when I do see it [the shirt], I’ve always thought, ‘When I get back there and win more caps for my country…’” said Solanke, whose England debut in 2017 was a friendly against Brazil. “Having something like that on the wall is definitely extra motivation.

“I didn’t think it wouldn’t come around,” he added after England’s training session on Tuesday at St. George’s Park. “[I had to] just keep playing well and scoring goals, and I always believed that I would get back here. That was my mindset. I’m thankful to be back here now, and hopefully I can stay here.”

Chelsea-Man United WSL match postponed due to UWCL scheduling

Chelsea’s Women’s Super League match against Manchester United, originally scheduled for Oct. 6, has been postponed with just a week’s notice due to its proximity to the club’s first Champions League game.

UEFA revealed on Saturday that Chelsea would face Real Madrid at Kingsmeadow on Oct. 8, just two days after the WSL fixture.

The WSL issued a statement confirming the decision, citing concerns over player welfare as the reason for the postponement.

“We apologise for any inconvenience to fans. In this instance, we have to put player welfare first, and we will announce a new date for the fixture in due course,” the league said.

“We thank the clubs and Sky Sports for their understanding as we work on a resolution.”

Both Chelsea, the defending WSL champions, and Manchester United have won both of their opening two league games of their respective campaigns.

“It’s not ideal; however, in the best interests of the players for both Chelsea and Manchester United, it’s probably the right decision if it benefits their safety,” United manager Marc Skinner told a post-match news conference after his side’s 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

“It’s frustrating we don’t have a game at the weekend, but we can work around that.”

Chelsea were eliminated from the Champions League in the semifinals last season, losing to the eventual champions, Barcelona.

In the final, Barcelona defeated Sonia Bompastor’s Lyon 2-0. Bompastor later succeeded Emma Hayes as Chelsea’s manager during the summer.

Jadon Sancho has expressed his belief that Chelsea’s potential is limitless with Cole Palmer on the squad, praising his impressive form at the start of the season.

Palmer made headlines on Saturday by becoming the first player to net four goals in the first half of a Premier League match, as Chelsea triumphed 4-2 over Brighton.

“When you have a player in your team like Cole Palmer, then anything is possible,” Sancho said.

“I’ve known Cole a long time, since our days together at [Manchester] City. I’ve always watched him, and I always thought he would go on to be a great player. He’s showing that now at Chelsea.

“We see what he’s capable of each day in training; we see the quality he has, and honestly, it’s no real surprise to me to see him score four goals.him,

“In fact, he could have scored five or six goals! I’m sure he will be fuming not to add to his tally, but in all seriousness, he’s such a quality player. Having a player like Cole alongside you is very good, and I’m happy to assist him.”

Sancho won the penalty, which Palmer converted for his second goal, and also set up the fourth, as he earned his third assist in three games since joining the club from Manchester United.

“I thought I started off a bit slow [against Brighton], but I feel like I grew into the game,” Sancho said.

“I’m happy to have been able to assist for goals in recent games; I’m settling in well here, and I just want to keep this momentum going and keep being able to assist my teammates. Or even get a first goal, that would be nice!”

  • Chelsea likely to do more transfers in January window – Enzo Maresca

Chelsea likely to do more transfers in January window – Enzo Maresca

Enzo Maresca has indicated that Chelsea plans to pursue additional signings next year to close the gap with Manchester City and Arsenal.

This summer, Chelsea was the top spender in the transfer market for the third time in four windows, investing £219 million.

Since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake consortium took control in May 2022, the club’s total spending has exceeded £1 billion.

Despite these investments, Maresca believes Chelsea is not yet in a position to challenge Manchester City and Arsenal, who currently hold the top two spots in the Premier League.

He said: “I think we are a very good squad, but there are clubs like Manchester City and Arsenal that are ahead of us, no doubt. Hopefully, if we progress and keep improving, we can slowly, slowly be close to them.

But I think it is quite clear that in this moment Arsenal and Manchester City are ahead of the rest.

“Like I have said, the reason why one club is nine years with the same manager (Pep Guardiola joined Manchester City in 2016), the other (Mikel Arteta at Arsenal) is five years.

The rest of the clubs… is a short time.”

When asked if that meant Chelsea needed to buy more players, he added: “The target after the last summer (window) is to try to do less things but more specific.

“This is the target for January and for next summer. Hopefully it can be like this.”

We don’t protect players – Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca on fixtures

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has voiced concerns about the intense football schedule, stating that players lack adequate protection from the heavy match load.

He acknowledged that players speaking out about the overwhelming number of games is “an important first step.”

The debate over player burnout has intensified recently, with Manchester City’s Rodri suggesting players are prepared to strike if no changes are made.

His remarks have been backed by Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois and Barcelona’s Jules Koundé, while Carlo Ancelotti hinted that players might even accept reduced wages if it meant fewer games.

Maresca is the latest to address the issue publicly.

“Yes, no doubt,” he said at a news conference on Friday when asked if there were too many games on the football calendar.

“In terms of games, it’s too much. We do not protect players. The only ones that can do something is the players. We can help them. I think in the last two weeks some of the players have explained what they think, and I think it’s a good starting point.”

Chelsea have opted to exclude Cole Palmer, Wesley Fofana, and Romeo Lavia from their UEFA Conference League squad, prioritising careful management of their game time over the course of the long season.

Currently sitting in eighth place in the Premier League after four matches, Chelsea are preparing for a London derby against West Ham on Saturday.

Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Enzo Fernández and new signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who were absent from last week’s victory over Bournemouth due to illness, will be fit for selection.

However, the Blues will still be without captain Reece James and Malo Gusto, who are sidelined with ongoing fitness issues.

Reece James’ return to Chelsea delayed due to slow hamstring injury recovery

Reece James’ comeback to football has faced another delay as the Chelsea defender’s hamstring injury recovery is reportedly taking longer than anticipated.

According to The Sun, the player’s rehabilitation has slowed, with the club’s medical team expressing concern that his hamstring hasn’t healed as quickly as initially hoped.

However, sources within Stamford Bridge have stressed that there is no indication of a new injury or setback to the affected muscle.

James sustained this latest injury during the summer, following an extended absence after undergoing hamstring surgery in December 2023.

Reece James was restricted to only 10 Premier League appearances during the 2023-24 season, following a similarly disrupted campaign the previous year where he managed just 16 games.

His current hamstring injury also ruled him out of England’s squad for the 2024 European Championship, where the team reached the final.

Although James took part in Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the USA, he has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League this season.

At 24, the fullback has endured a difficult career plagued by recurring hamstring issues, which have undoubtedly hindered him from reaching his full potential.

While no specific timeline has been set for his return, Chelsea fans are hopeful they’ll see their star defender back in action before the year ends.

Nicolas Jackson extends Chelsea contract until 2033

Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2033, the club confirmed on Friday.

The 23-year-old initially made the move to Chelsea from Villareal in June 2023 on an eight-year deal. Jackson made an impact by netting 17 goals across all competitions in his first season.

This year, he has already scored twice in four matches.

“I am feeling very good and am very happy to sign a new contract and stay at the club,” Jackson said in a statement.

“It feels great the club has confidence in me. I am working very hard. I am very happy to extend my contract and stay here for many years.”

Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez banned from driving after two driving offences, fined £3,020 – Report

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been hit with a driving ban and a £3,020 fine following a series of traffic violations, Sky Sports reports.

Fernandez was convicted after missing a court appearance and was found guilty of failing to identify the driver of a vehicle linked to the offenses.

“Enzo Fernandez has been disqualified from driving following two driving offences and was fined a total of £3,020, including costs, at Llanelli Magistrates Court after he was found guilty of failing to identify the driver of a Porsche Cayenne on Dec 27, last year [2023],” Sky Sports reported as shared by Vince on X.

Fernandez has struggled with a tough start to the 2024/2025 English Premier League season amid Chelsea’s lackluster performance.

Despite the team’s challenges, he has taken on a key leadership role as vice-captain and has stepped in as captain for several matches this season.

  • Conor Gallagher rebuffs Ezno Maresca’s claims of not fitting into play style after Atletico move

Conor Gallagher rebuffs Ezno Maresca’s claims of not fitting into play style after Atletico move

Conor Gallagher has addressed his situation with Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca following his forced move to Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window.

After lengthy and somewhat difficult negotiations, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid agreed on a £36 million ($47 million) fee, though the transfer nearly collapsed at one point.

The England midfielder was left facing an uncertain future after being sidelined by Maresca, leading to his eventual departure.

Gallagher’s transfer has divided the Chelsea fanbase, with many expressing disappointment over losing a homegrown player at his prime. Gallagher himself felt that his performances, especially under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, were significant.

However, Chelsea’s need to reduce their wage bill and comply with the Premier League’s financial regulations pushed the club’s decision to let him go.

When Gallagher was asked about his opinion on Maresca’s thoughts that he does not fit into the Italian’s style of football, he said: “I don’t think that’s true personally.

I think last season I had a good season with Chelsea and you could see by Mauricio Pochettino playing me every game and showing his trust in me.

And the fans appreciated what I did on the pitch. I’m very grateful for all of that and very thankful to the fans, and very thankful to Pochettino for giving me that platform to go and express myself and show the best version of myself at Chelsea.”

Gallagher had been associated with Chelsea since he was eight and despite the forced nature of his exit, Gallagher reflected on his time at Chelsea with pride, noting that it was always a dream of his to play for the club.

“Obviously in football, things happen. I have left Chelsea, but I look back at all my memories and I am really happy that I was able to play for them for the couple of years that I did. The dream came true. So I am very lucky,” he said.

“Honestly, with Chelsea, I have only got good things to say. Amazing football club, my boyhood club where I grew up through the academy. I am so thankful and grateful for everything they did for me in the academy and the first team.

As for the fans, last season especially, they really warmed to me which made me feel confident and good and very happy as well so I leave Chelsea with really special memories.”

  • Cole Palmer left out of Chelsea’s squad for the Conference League

Cole Palmer left out of Chelsea’s squad for the Conference League

Chelsea have excluded Cole Palmer, Wesley Fofana, and Romeo Lavia from their squad for the UEFA Conference League, opting instead for a 29-man roster announced on Thursday.

Notable inclusions are Pedro Neto, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Jadon Sancho.

Despite Palmer’s impressive performance last season—featuring in 55 games and scoring in the Euro 2024 final against Spain—the midfielder was left out.

However, he is set for another busy season, as Chelsea have already secured a spot in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup next summer in the U.S., thanks to their 2021 Champions League win.

Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League group stage opponents include Gent, Panathinaikos, Armenia’s Noah, Bundesliga surprise leaders Heidenheim, Astana, and Shamrock Rovers.

The squad will be updated ahead of the knockout rounds, which begin in February.

After a difficult 2023-24 season under Mauricio Pochettino, where Chelsea finished sixth, the team is now under new manager Enzo Maresca.

Currently sitting 11th in the Premier League after three games, the Blues are aiming for a stronger campaign this year.

  • Ângelo Gabriel departs for Saudi Arabia just a year after his Chelsea move

Ângelo Gabriel departs for Saudi Arabia just a year after his Chelsea move

The unexpected career trajectory of Brazilian teenager Ângelo Gabriel took another turn as he finalised a $25 million transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr on Tuesday, just a year after joining Chelsea from Santos.

Despite signing with Chelsea for $17 million, Gabriel never played for the English club, instead spending the past year on loan at Strasbourg, one of the clubs owned by Chelsea’s American investors.

The 19-year-old was part of Chelsea’s preseason squad during their U.S. tour but has now permanently moved to Al Nassr, where he will team up with Cristiano Ronaldo.

This transfer, announced a day after the Saudi transfer window closed, will assist Chelsea in complying with financial regulations in the Premier League and UEFA competitions.

Another Brazilian teenager, Deivid Washington, also joined Chelsea from Santos last year around the same time as Gabriel.

Although Washington was close to a permanent move to Strasbourg, sources informed ESPN that Chelsea called off the transfer due to concerns about its compliance with competition rules.

“We wish Angelo the very best as he begins the next chapter in his career and thank him for his efforts during his time with Chelsea,” the Premier League club said in a statement.

Gabriel became the youngest player in the history of Brazil’s national championship at the time when he made his senior debut for Santos at 15 years, 308 days.

  • Osimhen misses out on Chelsea, Saudi move, set to join Galasaray – Reports

Osimhen misses out on Chelsea, Saudi move, set to join Galasaray – Reports

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is reportedly being considered by Galatasaray for a loan move after his transfers to Chelsea and Al Ahli fell through.

The Turkish club is interested in a dry loan deal, which would involve covering Osimhen’s full salary.

Negotiations are ongoing, and with the Turkish transfer window open until September 13, there’s still time for Galatasaray to finalise the deal.

Osimhen’s move to Chelsea collapsed due to personal term disagreements, and Al Ahli backed out after Napoli increased the transfer fee.

The fallout led to Osimhen’s removal from Napoli’s first team and the loss of his number nine jersey to Romelu Lukaku.

Jadon Sancho thrilled to be part of Chelsea’s ‘project’ following his transfer

Jadon Sancho has expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea’s “project” after completing a move from Manchester United on an initial loan, which will become permanent next summer.

The 24-year-old winger finalised his transfer to Chelsea on Saturday, following last-minute negotiations on transfer deadline day.

According to sources, Chelsea did not pay a loan fee but will cover most of Sancho’s wages for the season. The deal’s total cost could rise to £25 million ($32.8m), depending on Chelsea’s performance this season.

“I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up, and I’m happy to be back,” Sancho said in a statement.

“The manager spoke to me about the project, and, for a young player, it’s exciting. Hopefully I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge.”

Jadon Sancho joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in a high-profile €85 million transfer in July 2023, following a lengthy negotiation period.

However, he struggled to recapture his impressive form from Germany, making only 83 appearances for United and contributing just 12 goals and six assists.

Sancho is now aiming to rejuvenate his career after facing challenges in recent years. He hasn’t played a competitive match for United in over a year and was omitted from Erik ten Hag’s squad for the first two Premier League games of the current season.

Last season, Sancho spent the second half on loan at Borussia Dortmund after being excluded from United’s first team following a public dispute with Ten Hag.

During his loan spell, he played a key role in Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final at Wembley, where they were defeated 2-0 by Real Madrid.

A product of Watford and Manchester City’s youth academies, Sancho has earned 23 senior caps for England.

However, he has not featured for the national team since 2021 and was absent from both the 2022 World Cup and this summer’s European Championship in Germany.

  • Chelsea presents official bid for Osimhen; Lukaku readies for Napoli move

Chelsea presents official bid for Osimhen; Lukaku readies for Napoli move

Chelsea have reportedly made an official bid for Victor Osimhen as Romelu Lukaku prepares to finalize his move to Napoli.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Blues have submitted an offer to Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, and are set to begin formal negotiations with Napoli on Wednesday.

It remains uncertain whether the three parties will reach an agreement, but the Nigerian forward has already expressed his desire to leave the Serie A club.

As discussions for Osimhen’s transfer to Stamford Bridge continue, Lukaku is on the brink of joining Napoli. He is expected to arrive in Naples shortly to undergo a medical before signing a permanent contract with the club.

Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli has also made a lucrative offer to Osimhen, but his agent Calenda has made it clear on social media that the striker has no intention of leaving Europe at this stage of his career.

Chelsea are eager to secure a top-quality striker before the transfer window closes on Friday. While progress is being made in their pursuit of Osimhen, the club has identified Brentford’s Ivan Toney as an alternative option should they fail to land the Napoli star.

Chelsea poised to compete with Juve for the signing of Jadon Sancho – Source

Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Jadon Sancho, potentially competing with Juventus for the Manchester United forward’s signature, sources have revealed.

With the transfer deadline looming on Friday, United are open to letting Sancho depart, but negotiations with Juventus have yet to result in an agreement.

Chelsea have identified Sancho as one of several possible targets as they look to bolster their squad in the final days of the transfer window.

The 24-year-old winger has not featured for United this season, having been left out of the squad for matches against Fulham and Brighton.

After spending the latter part of the previous season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho returned to Old Trafford this summer and made a brief appearance as a substitute in the Community Shield loss to Manchester City.

However, he has not played a competitive match for United since his public fallout with manager Erik ten Hag in August 2023.

United are seeking a permanent transfer for Sancho, valuing him at around £40 million ($52.8m), but his substantial weekly wages of over £300k have been a significant obstacle in negotiations.

Sancho has two years remaining on his contract, which he signed upon his £73 million arrival from Dortmund in 2021.

While United prefer a permanent deal, they are not ruling out a loan arrangement, provided it includes an option or obligation to buy at the end of the season.

In other transfer news, United midfielder Scott McTominay is in discussions with Napoli after the clubs agreed on a £25 million fee.

Should McTominay opt to join the Serie A side, it could give United more financial flexibility in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

PSG are seeking around £50 million for the Uruguayan, who they signed from Sporting last summer.

Chelsea not a mess; I’m working with 21 players not 42 – Enzo Maresca

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has firmly dismissed suggestions that the club is “a mess” despite the fact that they currently have more than 40 first-team players on their roster.

In addressing the situation on Wednesday, Maresca also responded to Raheem Sterling’s recent comments about being uncertain over his future at the club.

Chelsea’s summer transfer window has been extremely busy, with Conor Gallagher completing a £34 million ($44.4 million) move to Atlético Madrid, while João Félix became the club’s 11th signing of the window, heading in the opposite direction.

Maresca acknowledged that a considerable number of players have been training separately from the main squad after being deemed surplus to requirements.

This group included several high-profile names, such as Gallagher before his transfer, Ben Chilwell, Trevoh Chalobah, and Raheem Sterling.

Today’s session is with 20 players, yesterday’s session was with 21. So they other 15 or 20, they are training apart. In the USA [during preseason] we had 26 or 27 players so [are there] Chelsea players, 42, 43, yes for sure.

But they are not working with me every day. I don’t see them. So it is not a mess like it looks from outside, absolutely not.”

People questioned whether I was worth the hefty £24.4m – Michael Essien

Former Ghanaian international Michael Essien has shared that his record transfer fee from Olympique Lyon to Chelsea raised eyebrows at the time.

Essien made the move to Chelsea for £24.4 million, making him the club’s most expensive signing during the 2005 transfer window.

While the transfer fulfilled a lifelong dream for Essien, there was widespread criticism over the hefty fee the club paid for him.

Now, 19 years after his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Essien reflected on how he was driven to prove his critics wrong by putting in the hard work under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.

“My dream was to play in the Premier League, and when the opportunity came, I jumped on it. It was great to represent Ghana in the Premier League,” Essien said.

“It was a big transfer move at the time. Those who didn’t know me questioned whether I was worth the money. But it was up to me to show it. Mourinho gave me all the confidence.

It was very physical at that time, and that was my focus. It was very hard to adapt, but I showed that, and quickly the fans fell in love with me, and the rest is history.”

Essien enjoyed a successful spell at Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the League Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.

‘Disappointed’ Sterling’s agents want to know player’s stance with club

Raheem Sterling’s representatives are seeking “clarity” regarding the forward’s future at Chelsea after he was snubbed from the squad for Sunday’s Premier League opener against Manchester City.

In a statement, they noted that Sterling maintains a “good working relationship” with new Blues manager Enzo Maresca but had “expected” to be part of the matchday squad at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s summer spending spree of around £185m on 11 new signings has resulted in Maresca managing a squad of over 40 senior players.

“He returned to England two weeks early to conduct individual training, and has had a positive pre-season under the new coach, who he has developed a good working relationship with,” said the statement.

“He is committed, as ever, to delivering at the highest level for Chelsea FC and the fans, who he holds in high regard, and given his inclusion in official club pre-match material this week, our expectation was that Raheem would be involved in this weekend’s fixture in some capacity.

“As a camp, we have always had positive dialogue with, and assurance from, Chelsea FC in relation to Raheem’s future at the club, so we look forward to gaining clarity on the situation.

“Until then, we will continue to support Raheem’s desire to start the new season positively.”

Asked about his decision to leave out Sterling, Maresca told Sky Sports: “The manager has to make some decisions. Sometimes players don’t like it, that’s normal.

“Just a technical decision, no more than that.”

Sterling has featured in 81 games for Chelsea since his £50m transfer from Manchester City in July 2022.

He was among the initial signings after the club’s takeover by co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly.

Since then, Chelsea has invested around £1.5bn in transfers, primarily targeting younger players with strong resale potential.

Napoli’s Osimhen prefers PSG over Chelsea

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, who has drawn interest from several top European clubs, reportedly favors a move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) over Chelsea, according to Sky Sports Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg.

Despite Chelsea’s efforts to secure the 26-year-old Nigeria international, Osimhen is not particularly eager for a Premier League transfer.

Napoli is open to selling him this summer if their €130 million release clause is met.

Arsenal also showed interest earlier in the transfer window with a “loose approach,” though it’s unclear if they are still pursuing the deal.

Osimhen’s preference for PSG, however, faces complications.

The French club cannot advance with the transfer unless one of their current forwards, Randal Kolo Muani or Gonçalo Ramos, is sold.

Ramos has been linked to Atlético Madrid, while Kolo Muani has reportedly caught the attention of Borussia Dortmund.

Despite his move to the Middle East, Kanté has expressed a desire to return to European football, attracting interest from several clubs, including Barcelona, West Ham, and Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has long admired Kanté, who was a standout performer for France at Euro 2024.

Talks underway as Chelsea seeks to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid

Chelsea have initiated discussions with Atletico Madrid about potentially signing Portuguese forward Joao Felix.

The clubs, having recently negotiated separate deals for Conor Gallagher and Samu Omorodion, are now exploring the possibility of Felix joining Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s inquiry into Felix follows the collapse of Omorodion’s proposed transfer on Sunday. However, Gallagher is still expected to finalize his move to Madrid in the coming days.

Felix, who previously had a six-month loan spell at Chelsea, scored four goals in 16 appearances during the latter half of the 2022-23 season.

Although he remains under contract with Atletico until June 2029, his relationship with head coach Diego Simeone has soured, leaving his future uncertain.

The 24-year-old forward has been on an extended summer break after participating in Euro 2024, during which time he has been assessing his options.

Chelsea’s interest comes amid competition from Aston Villa, whose manager, Unai Emery, is a long-time admirer of Felix.

Atletico originally signed Felix in 2019 for €126 million (£113m), making it one of the highest transfer fees in football history at the time, following his impressive debut season with Benfica’s first team.

However, after three unfulfilling years at Atletico, Felix was loaned to Chelsea in January 2023.

The Premier League club chose not to pursue a permanent deal for him last summer, leading to his loan spell at Barcelona during the 2023-24 season, where he scored 10 goals in 44 appearances.

Felix has also made 41 appearances for Portugal, netting eight goals for his national team.

“He is respected” – Chelsea coach on decision to pick Enzo Fernández as vice captain

Chelsea’s manager Enzo Maresca has stood by his choice to appoint Enzo Fernández as captain during the team’s preseason match against Real Madrid, asserting that Fernández commands respect within the squad.

Fernández, who wore the armband for the second half of the 2-1 loss to Real Madrid, was given the role despite recent controversies surrounding him.

Following Argentina’s Copa América victory, Fernández faced backlash after posting a video featuring a racist chant, which included derogatory remarks about some French players.

This incident led to Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana labeling the video as “unrestrained racism,” prompting the club to issue a statement denouncing Fernández’s behavior.

Despite this, Maresca emphasized that Fernández’s leadership is clear and well-regarded among his teammates.

The Argentinean has since apologised for the video and Maresca has defended Fernández’ actions saying he had “no bad intentions.”

Following the decision to give Fernández the captaincy, Maresca said: “He’s one of the important players.

“To be honest, I think when we changed Reece, he gave the bracelet [captain armband] to Enzo and this shows how Enzo is respected inside the squad. I think it’s quite clear.”

When asked if he felt team spirit could be affected by the fallout from Fernández’s controversy, Maresca said: “I don’t think so to be honest.

“I spoke with Enzo but as I said, I spoke with all of them. The situation is quite clear. He did already a statement apologising, the club did the same so.”

Chelsea will face Inter Milan on Sunday in their last preseason match before they kick off the 2024-25 Premier League season against Manchester City.

Real Madrid thump Chelsea 2-1 in U.S. tour preseason game

Real Madrid concluded their U.S. tour with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday night.

Kylian Mbappé, who recently joined the team, and Jude Bellingham, last season’s standout player, did not participate in the tour as they were resting after a busy European Championship summer.

Even without these two stars, Real Madrid showcased plenty of talent.

They took the lead within 20 minutes when Lucas Vázquez capitalized on a goalmouth scramble to score from close range.

Brahim Díaz doubled Madrid’s lead shortly after by chasing down a through ball from Vinícius Júnior, skillfully bypassing Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen, and finishing from a tight angle.

Chelsea managed to pull one back before halftime with a powerful header from Noni Madueke, who connected with an Enzo Fernández cross at the back post.

    The second half remained goalless.

Carlo Ancelotti’s squad will kick off their 2024-25 season on August 14 against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup, featuring the winners of last year’s Champions League and Europa League.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have one more friendly on August 11 before opening their Premier League campaign at home against Manchester City on August 18.

  • PSR rules forcing clubs to sell academy players – Chelsea’s Maresca

PSR rules forcing clubs to sell academy players – Chelsea’s Maresca

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has highlighted that Premier League clubs are increasingly having to sell academy players in order to comply with the league’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

In recent years, Chelsea has sold numerous academy graduates, with midfielder Conor Gallagher now being linked to a potential move to Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

Gallagher, who has been with Chelsea since he was eight, has a contract that runs until 2025, after which he could leave for free.

Selling academy-developed players is financially advantageous for clubs, as these sales can be recorded as pure profit on their financial statements.

Consequently, several Premier League teams are turning to homegrown talent as a means to generate revenue and mitigate losses.

“But this is not Chelsea’s problem, this is a (Premier League) rules problem,” Maresca said ahead of their pre-season friendly with Real Madrid in North Carolina.

“These are the rules. For all the clubs at this moment it is almost compulsory they are compelled to sell players from the academy because of the rules. It’s not only us, it’s all the clubs.”

Chelsea will host Manchester City in their Premier League opener on August 18.

Chelsea’s Gallagher set for £33m transfer to Atletico Madrid

Blues had accepted a £33m offer from Atlético Madrid last week, but there were significant concerns about whether the England international was willing to make the move.

However, on Sunday night, Gallagher, 24, informed Atlético officials that he is happy to make the switch.

The England international is now set to fly to complete his medical and contract signing, ending his 18-year tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had proposed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year, but Gallagher found it unfavorable due to both the contract length and the lesser role he was offered.

A natural divide had emerged between Gallagher and Chelsea, as he was seen as a poor fit for new manager Enzo Maresca’s possession-based style of play and would not be a regular starter under the Italian.

Gallagher, who played five matches at Euro 2024, has less than one year remaining on his current Chelsea deal.

Chelsea preferred to sell Gallagher overseas rather than to an English rival, which allowed Atlético to secure a cut-price deal.

Chelsea agree to Atlético Madrid offer for Conor Gallagher – Sources

Chelsea have accepted a £33 million (€42.42 million) bid from Atlético Madrid for Conor Gallagher, following the midfielder’s rejection of a new contract offer to remain at Stamford Bridge, sources revealed to ESPN.

The 24-year-old has yet to agree on personal terms with the LaLiga club and will decide his future in the coming days as negotiations proceed.

With just one year left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, the Blues are determined to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer, as happened with Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rüdiger, who joined Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively in 2022.

Sources indicated that Chelsea’s new offer to Gallagher was a two-year contract with an option for a third season, including a significant pay raise.

Gallagher previously turned down a move to Aston Villa, and Tottenham has been monitoring his situation for several months.

Additionally, sources informed ESPN that Atlético Madrid is in talks with Villarreal regarding a transfer for Alexander Sørloth, after a deal for Girona striker Artem Dovbyk fell through.

Atlético reportedly had an agreement in place for Dovbyk to replace Álvaro Morata last week, but negotiations collapsed when the player’s agent increased financial demands at the last minute.

No signings for Real Madrid this summer – Carlo Ancelotti confirms

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has announced that the club will not be making any additional signings this summer, following the acquisitions of Kylian Mbappé and Endrick.

However, Los Blancos were unable to secure the signing of French centre-back Leny Yoro, who opted to join Manchester United instead.

Amid reports that the Spanish giants are still in the market for a centre-back following the departure of Nacho and Rafa Marín, Ancelotti said: “The squad is closed. [Jesús] Vallejo is back, [David] Alaba is recovering.

“We have young centre-backs like Joan, Jacobo and Raul [Asencio] who are training and have a lot of quality. I believe we are well covered in this position.”

Veteran defender Nacho has recently joined Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah, ending his two-decade tenure with Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Marin, who was on loan at Deportivo Alavés last season, has completed a permanent transfer to Napoli. Additionally, Spain striker Joselu has left Madrid for Qatari club Al Gharafa.

Despite these departures, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who led the team to victories in LaLiga, the Champions League, and the Spanish Super Cup last season, does not anticipate any further player exits.

“No one will be leaving because everyone wants to stay,” Ancelotti said.

Ancelotti, meanwhile, admitted Madrid will have to adapt without Toni Kroos.

The German midfielder retired from football after Euro 2024 and having enjoyed a trophy-laden nine-year stay with Madrid.

“We are missing Kroos,” Ancelotti said. “But we have possibilities to replace him, although in a different way because there is no player like him, with his quality.

“But we have many other resources.”

Real Madrid will kick off their U.S. summer tour with a match against Ancelotti’s former club, AC Milan, on Wednesday at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Following that, they will face FC Barcelona in the Clásico on August 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The tour will conclude with a game against Chelsea on August 6 at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

  • “I’m still pushing, sending messages” – Mikel Obi on convincing Osimhen to Chelsea

“I’m still pushing, sending messages” – Mikel Obi on convincing Osimhen to Chelsea

Former Nigerian footballer John Mikel Obi has disclosed that he has been in frequent contact with Victor Osimhen, encouraging him to sign with Chelsea.

Mikel Obi revealed that he has been consistently messaging and interacting with Osimhen to sway him towards choosing Chelsea over other European teams.

The ex-Chelsea player advised the Napoli striker to have realistic expectations if he joins the club, given its current phase of transition.

Mikel Obi is convinced that acquiring Osimhen would address Chelsea’s goal-scoring challenges.

“I think there’s genuine interest from both sides. He loves the club and wants to come. He wants to follow in my footsteps as a Nigerian player at Chelsea. And he likes London.

Instead of going to Liverpool or other places, he prefers London.

“But he also has interest from Paris and Manchester United. I’m still pushing, sending messages, and trying to ensure he doesn’t expect too much. We need a striker who will score goals, and that’s what Victor will provide.

He’s not the most skillful, but goals are guaranteed,” Mikel Obi said during a Web Summit in Qatar.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Chelsea is in contact with Napoli to sign Osimhen, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Video: Chelsea’s Levi Colwill’s fight with James McClean during Rexham friendly

In the Chelsea vs Wrexham friendly, a clash between Levi Colwill and James McClean occurred just two minutes into the match following a rough challenge from McClean.

Colwill, 21, reacted angrily, grabbing McClean by the collar, which led to the game being halted briefly.

This altercation quickly became the focal point of the match. Chelsea narrowly avoided an embarrassing defeat with an 82nd-minute equalizer from Lesley Ugochukwu.

McClean’s challenge on Colwill was deemed late, sparking a physical confrontation between the two players. They had to be separated by teammates and coaches from both sides.

Despite the scuffle, neither player received a punishment from the referee, likely due to the incident occurring early in the game.

Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures include matches against Celtic, Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid over the next 11 days.

Chelsea’s rising star, English-born Ghanaian Josh Acheampong, has been included in the squad for the club’s upcoming tour of the United States, a notable achievement in his budding career.

Acheampong, recognized as one of Chelsea’s brightest prospects, was instrumental in the academy team’s success during the 2023/24 season.

He made his first-team debut under manager Mauricio Pochettino in March 2024, contributing to a home victory against Tottenham.

His stellar performances earned him his first professional contract at the start of 2024.

Acheampong’s highlight came when he scored a header in the U18 Premier League national final against Manchester United, despite Chelsea’s 2-1 loss at Stamford Bridge.

  • Pochettino leading candidate for USMNT job after Gregg Berhalter’s exit

Pochettino leading candidate for USMNT job after Gregg Berhalter’s exit

Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly become a leading candidate to manage the USMNT following Gregg Berhalter’s departure.

Berhalter stepped down after the American team’s disappointing group stage exit at the 2024 Copa America.

The USA FA initially approached former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for the position, but after Klopp declined, they turned their attention to Pochettino, as reported by Diario Ole.

Pochettino recently became available after leaving Chelsea in May, where he led the team to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

His profile suits the USMNT’s needs: a youthful coach with a distinguished background, fluent in English, and experienced in top-tier football.

The 52-year-old Argentine has an impressive coaching resume, including leading Tottenham Hotspur to a Champions League final and managing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The USMNT role could be appealing to Pochettino, offering him the chance to shape a promising group of young American talents, such as Gio Reyna and Folarin Balogun, to his style and philosophy.

Should Pochettino accept the offer from the USA FA, he would have the opportunity to guide the team in the 2026 World Cup on home soil, a compelling factor that could influence his decision to coach Christian Pulisic and his teammates.

  • Cole Palmer beats Raheem Sterling, Reece James in latest Fantasy Premier League value at £10.5

Cole Palmer beats Raheem Sterling, Reece James in latest Fantasy Premier League value at £10.5

Cole Palmer has achieved the largest price surge in Fantasy Premier League history following his standout season with Chelsea.

After moving from Manchester City to Chelsea last summer for an initial £40 million ($52m), Palmer’s Fantasy Premier League value started at £5 million. Following a stellar season where he accumulated 244 points, his price has soared to £10.5 million.

Chelsea’s decision to invest heavily in Palmer raised many eyebrows, given his modest record of six goals in 41 games for Manchester City.

However, the 22-year-old blossomed into a key player for the Blues, impressively netting 25 goals and providing 15 assists during the 2023–24 season.

His stellar performances have now extended to the international stage, where he is making waves for England at the Euros, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Before Palmer’s remarkable price surge in the Fantasy Premier League, Mohamed Salah of Liverpool had previously held the record, seeing his value rise from £9m to £13m for the 2018–19 season.

Looking ahead to the 2024–25 campaign, Erling Haaland claims the title of the game’s most expensive player, commanding a hefty £15 million valuation.

Palmer’s impact on the field continues to grow, as exemplified by his crucial assist off the bench in England’s 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-final.

As anticipation builds for the Euros final against Spain in Berlin on Sunday night, virtual managers eagerly await the reopening of FPL to assemble their squads for the upcoming season.

  • Michael Essien speaks on Chelsea’s dismissal of Pochettino

Michael Essien speaks on Chelsea’s dismissal of Pochettino

Chelsea legend Michael Essien has expressed surprise at the club’s decision to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino, the Argentine coach.

Speaking in an interview, Essien expressed his belief that Pochettino was beginning to achieve success with the team and deserved the opportunity to continue.

He highlighted Chelsea’s history of frequent managerial changes, noting that during his nine-year stint at the club, there were eight different coaches.

From Essien’s viewpoint, Pochettino’s dismissal is regrettable because it means the players will now need to adapt to yet another new coach.

“Chelsea is a challenging environment for both players and managers. The team was coming together, playing good football towards the end of the season, but Poch was unlucky. I believe the new boss will lead them to where they want to be.

“I was at Chelsea for almost nine years, and we had eight managers, so it’s not an easy place for managers. Our era was different; we achieved great success, but this generation is different, and we must give them time to build and elevate the club to where it belongs.

“Everything the former manager implemented is now irrelevant, so they must start fresh. Luckily, the new manager will guide them through the pre-season. Chelsea deserves to be in the top three because of their historical achievements.

“We had tremendous success, so everyone expects to see us there. Securing a top-four finish would be a successful season for them, as it would give them the chance to compete in the Champions League. However, when you play for Chelsea, the goal is to win the tournament,” he said.

Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino parted ways after just one season at Stamford Bridge, where the club finished sixth in the Premier League.

A statement from Chelsea released in May 2024 said, “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity. The club is now well-positioned to continue progressing in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
