  • Ben Simmons responds to claim that he was involved with Megan Thee Stallion

Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons has dismissed reports that he “hooked up” with Megan Thee Stallion in the past by posting the following clip of Rick Ross to his Instagram Stories:

The clip—featuring Ross shouting “false accusations!”—comes from a promo for Rozay’s appearance on AEW Dynamite earlier this year:

According to the Instagram account lawyerforworkers, Simmons’ name was mentioned when Tory Lanez’s attorney George Mgdesyan said the rapper confronted Megan Thee Stallion’s former friend Kelsey Nicole about their relationship prior to the shooting. Mgdesyan claims Lanez questioned why Nicole would defend Megan knowing the rapper has hooked up with the same men as her.

The conversation allegedly occurred after a party where Megan and Kelsey were bothered by the sight of Lanez and Kylie Jenner together in a pool. Mgdesyan alleges Jenner eventually told Megan that it was time for them to leave.

TMZ reports Mgdesyan is looking to prove that Kelsey was the one who shot Megan in the foot, claiming the two got into an argument before the incident occurred.

Lanez has been charged with discharging a firearm with gross negligence, in addition to an assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying an unregistered firearm in a vehicle charge.

  • Nike terminates endorsement deal with Kyrie Irving

As a result of Nike and Kyrie Irving’s split, the Brooklyn Nets player is now a shoe free agency. Shams Charania, an NBA insider, broke the news of the dismissal for the first time on Twitter on Monday.

When reached for comment by Complex on the matter, a Nike spokesperson confirms that “Kyrie Irving is no longer a Nike athlete.”

The termination of the deal with the Nets star guard comes after the brand announced last month it would be suspending its partnership with Irving and axing the release of his Kyrie 8 signature shoe after he shared a link to an antisemitic film on Instagram and refused to denounce antisemitic beliefs in the immediate press conferences that followed. Irving was also suspended by the Nets for eight games but has since been reinstated after he apologized for sharing a link to the film on social media.

Irving and Nike’s relationship began to sour last year when he publicly called his unreleased Kyrie Infinity sneaker “trash” in an Instagram comment. Shortly after, it was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne that Nike would not be renewing Irving’s endorsement deal following the 2022–23 season and that the Kyrie 8 would be his last sneaker release with the brand.

Irving first inked an endorsement deal with the Swoosh back in 2011, which has resulted in the release of seven official signature models as well as several takedown sneakers.

  • Irving looks to ‘move forward’ after return

Kyrie Irving never doubted he would return for the Brooklyn Nets after his team-imposed suspension, while he declined to answer questions about the Israel United in Christ group that turned out at Barclays Center in support of him.

Irving made his NBA return after eight games out due to suspension for sharing a social media post about a book and film with antisemitic tropes, scoring 14 points in 26 minutes in a 127-115 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

The All-Star’s return to the NBA came after a lengthy remediation process that split opinions, involving the Nets, the league, the NBPA and Irving, who also met with key community members.

“Never had a doubt,” Irving responded after the game when asked if he feared the situation may mean he would never play for the Nets again.

On his return, Irving added: “I felt good. I missed my teammates, missed the coaching staff… It felt good to get this game out of the way. Now we can move forward with the rest of the season.”

Prior to the game, approximately 100 members from Israel United in Christ group were outside the venue, chanting and handing out flyers headlined “The Truth About Anti-Semitism” and “The Truth about Slavery”.

The group has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center yet appeared to be in support of Irving’s social media post that led to his suspension.

“I think that’s a conversation for another day. I’m just here to focus on the game,” Irving said when asked about the group’s presence.

When asked again, he added: “Again I’m just here to focus on the game.”

Boston Celtics swingman and NBPA vice-president Jaylen Brown retweeted a social media video of the group, writing “energy”.

Brown later backtracked on the post, but did not delete it. He wrote: “I was not aware of what specific group that was outside of Barclay’s Center tonight. I was celebrating the unification of our people welcoming the return of Kyrie to the court, first glance I thought it was a known fraternity the (C/Que’s) Omega psi phi (step’n) showing support.”

  • Durant doesn’t want Vaughn appointment to be ‘honeymoon stage’ for Nets

Kevin Durant does not want Jacque Vaughn’s appointment as permanent head coach to be a fleeting “honeymoon stage” for the Brooklyn Nets after winning three of their past four games.

The Nets triumphed 112-85 over the New York Knicks on Wednesday after removing the interim tag from Vaughn’s title, appointing him on a permanent basis.

Brooklyn have a 3-2 record under Vaughn, having started the season 2-5 under Steve Nash, who was fired last week. The Nets have also been playing without the suspended Kyrie Irving for their past four games.

“We don’t want this to be a honeymoon stage for us,” Durant told reporters, after recording a triple-double against the Knicks with 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists.

“We want to continue to keep pushing through, keep finding ways to get better, finding ways to turn those weaknesses to strengths and keep pushing from here.

“We were struggling, we’ve been through a lot. Guys got pride, individual pride, and we just wanted to come out and play better. That’s what we’ve been doing.”

Durant presented Vaughn with the game ball afterwards, amid upbeat scenes from a Nets locker-room which has been through plenty this season.

“I was excited for him,” Durant said. “I know the work that he puts in every day. I know how much he cares about the development of each player, and this team as a whole.

“Look forward to playing for him. All the guys have responded to how he wants us to play, so I’m looking forward to how we progress after this.”

The Nets’ recent change in results has coincided with keeping opposition sides below 100 points in their past four games. The run marks the first time Brooklyn have done that since the 2014-15 season.

“We’ve already taken a big jump last four games, teams under 100 points, which has been great,” Vaughn said. “So definitely concerted effort…. We really came out with the right mindset.”

  • Steve Nash and Brooklyn Nets mutually agree to part ways

Steve Nash and the Brooklyn Nets are going their separate ways.

The news broke early Tuesday afternoon, with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski initially reporting that the team had fired Nash, who first became head coach back in September 2020. Meanwhile, Shams Charania of the Athletic reported that the team and Nash had both “agreed to part ways,” with a follow-up ESPN update stating the same.

Nash also released a statement confirming his departure.

“A very heartfelt thanks to Joe and Clara Tsai along with Sean Marks for giving me the opportunity to coach the Brooklyn Nets,” Nash said. “It was an amazing experience with many challenges that I’m incredibly grateful for.”

In a subsequent press release, Nets leadership also addressed the split.

“I’ve gotten to know Steve during his time in Brooklyn, and he is not one to shy away from challenges,” Nets Governor Joe Tsai said in a statement. “My admiration and respect for him grew over time as he brought hard work and positive attitude to our organization every day, even in periods of exceptional storm surrounding the team. Clara and I want to thank Steve, Lilla, and their family for making this extraordinary commitment. We began this journey as colleagues, we part as friends.”

According to Woj, the frontrunner to take Nash’s place is suspended Celtics coach Ime Udoka.

Suspended Celtics coach Ime Udoka has emerged as the likely next Brooklyn Nets head coach and his hiring could be finalized as soon as the next 24-to-48 hours, sources tell ESPN. Celtics will let him leave for another job.

  • Video shows Fivio foreign experiencing technical difficulties during Brooklyn Nets halftime performance

Fivio Foreign’s performance at the Brooklyn Nets’ home opener on Tuesday left something to be desired.

The Brooklyn native took to center court during halftime to perform a medley of his songs “Say My Name,” “City of Gods,” and “Big Drip.” But thanks to some obvious technical difficulties, his delivery was delayed and he was rapping off-cue.

  • Ben Simmons ‘grateful’ to be back after preseason debut for Nets

Three-time NBA All-Star Ben Simmons says he is simply grateful be back on the court after making his long-awaited debut for the Brooklyn Nets in pre-season on Monday.

Simmons played 19 minutes in the Nets’ 127-108 loss to his former franchise, the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.

The Australian guard scored six points with five assists and four rebounds in his return, after mental health and injury issues meant he did not play at all last season, even after being traded from the 76ers to the Nets in February.

“I’m grateful just to be able to step on that floor,” Simmons said. “Step on an NBA floor again. I had a lot of fun out there.

“That’s the one thing, I thought I was going to be nervous, but I wasn’t nervous. I was excited.”

Simmons’ return, which was rusty at times, marked 470 days between games for the 2018 NBA Rookie of the Year.

It is also the first time the Nets have fielded Simmons alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, offering excitement for the franchise.

“Ben’s playing with a totally different unit than he has in the past, different style,” Nets head coach Steve Nash said.

“It’s going to be ugly at times, but I thought as the half wore on you definitely started to see glimpses of the potential. The way the ball moved. The way they were hounding the basketball defensively.

“I thought Ben looked pretty good overall and grew into the game through the half.”

Simmons admitted that working alongside Durant and Irving would take time but he was excited by the learning process as the Nets build cohesion.

“It was fun messing up because I know how good we can be,” Simmons said. “And seeing just different looks and opportunities there with Kevin and Ky and Joe [Harris]. Seeing where they want the ball and just how things are going to work and flow.

“But the only way you learn is to make mistakes so I had a few out there tonight and I can go back and watch film and say I know what I did wrong and how to fix that, so it’s all a learning process for me so it’s good.”
