An Accra High Court has scheduled February 11, 2025, to hear the case of Nana Berima, also known as Ben Lord, who allegedly shot and killed soldier Lance Corporal Michael Danso at Kasoa Millennium City years ago.

During the court session on Tuesday, Ben Lord’s lawyer informed the judge that they had filed a formal bail application for his release.

Two other individuals, Nana Ababio and Kofi Ano Gyekye, also known as Fiifi, are also on trial for their alleged roles in a land dispute that led to the soldier’s death.

However, two other suspects, Oteng and Salisu, are currently on the run.

Ababio and Gyekye have been charged with conspiracy, while Ababio faces an additional charge of murder.

Ababio remains in police custody, while Gyekye has been granted bail set at GH₵1 million with two sureties, who must prove they can meet the amount.

As part of his bail conditions, Gyekye was required to submit his passport to the court registry.

The incident happened on April 30, 2024, around 4:00 PM, when Lance Corporal Michael Danso and two fellow soldiers, Lance Corporals Abdul Omar Raham and Ametus Matthew, drove to the Millennium City Police Station in a Rav4 to report a case.

Unfortunately, this visit resulted in the tragic death of Danso.

An Accra High Court judge has expressed concern over the low number of jurors available for the murder trial involving Ben Lord Ababio, a self-styled traditional ruler, and another individual.

The judge, Justice Mrs. Kizita Naa Koowah Quarshie, instructed the court’s Registrar to gather more jurors so the trial could begin.

When the case was called on Tuesday, only nine potential jurors showed up. The accused persons had the option to choose jurors, with the right to reject some if necessary.

The court has postponed the trial until December 18, 2024.

Ben Lord Ababio, also known as Nana Barima, and Nana Kofi Amo Gyekye, also known as Nana Fiifi, are facing trial for their involvement in a land dispute that allegedly led to the death of Lance Corporal Michael Danso of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Two accomplices, Oteng and Salisu, are reportedly still at large.

Ababio and Gyekye are charged with conspiracy, with Ababio also facing a murder charge. Ababio remains in custody, while Gyekye is on bail of one million Ghana cedis, with two sureties, and must deposit his passport with the court.

On April 30, 2024, Lance Corporal Michael Danso, along with two colleagues, drove to the Millennium City Police Station in a Toyota RAV4 to report a trespassing incident on land owned by one of the officers, Lance Corporal Abdul Omar Rahman.

Ababio showed up at the police station and shot and killed Danso instantly.

Ababio was arrested by the police, and further investigations led to the arrest of Gyekye.
