    Brighton sign Anderlecht’s goalkeeper, Bart Verbruggen

    On Monday, Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion announced the signing of goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen from Belgian side Anderlecht.

    The 20-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the club, although the financial details of the transfer were not disclosed.

    However, reports from British media suggest that Brighton paid around £16 million for the talented young goalkeeper, who was named Anderlecht’s player of the season.

    Verbruggen, a Dutch goalkeeper, began his career at NAC Breda in the Netherlands before making the move to Anderlecht in 2020.

    Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi expressed his belief that Verbruggen will be a great fit for the club’s playing style, which emphasizes playing out from the back.

    “He is used to playing a type of football similar to ours and he will have no problem fitting into our group,” De Zerbi said.

    “He has the potential to become a very important player for the club in the coming years.”

    Brighton finished sixth in the table and will play in the Europa League next season.

    Verbruggen is their fourth signing of the transfer window following the arrivals of Joao Pedro from Watford, Germany midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud from Borussia Dortmund and James Milner from Liverpool.

  • Ghanaian winger Francis Amuzu picks up injury in Anderlecht home defeat

    Ghanaian international Francis Amuzu picked up an injury while in action for Anderlecht in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday night.

    The 23-year-old started but had to be replaced before the start of the second half when his side suffered a 1-0 home defeat to the English Premier League side.

    Amuzu injured his shoulder and was taken off as a precautionary measure.

    The Belgian-born Ghanaian forward will have to undergo scans to determine the extent of the injury.

    The winger has been battling injuries this campaign and will hope to make a quick return.

    He has featured 16 times this season, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists.

  • Francis Amuzu set to extend contract with Anderlecht

    This summer, Francis Amuzu was persistently chased by French club Nice. However, he stayed and is now preparing to extend his contract with Anderlecht.

    Francis Amuzu sustained an injury this weekend during the win against Kortrijk. Julien Duranville was brought in to take the winger’s position.

    It would be likely that he had a muscular injury, which may prevent him from playing for a few weeks.

    The Walloon press continues by saying that Amuzu would be wise to extend to Anderlecht. The new contract needs to be increased. Therefore, the arrangement to prolong an existing contract beyond 2024 will be done this week.

    Amuzu has scored two goals and assisted two this season.

  • Ghanaian forward Dauda Mohammed close to Anderlecht exit to return to Spain

    Ghanaian international, Dauda Mohammed is on the brink of leaving RSC Anderlecht for good.

    The former Asante Kotoko poster boy joined the Belgian club in 2017 on the back of a fantastic display in the Ghana Premier League.

    Unfortunately, he has not quite been offered the chance to spend a season with RSC Anderlecht to show what he can do.

    Every season, he is sent out on loan for regular playing time to help him improve his game.

    This summer, sources have reported that Dauda Mohammed is set to leave RSC Anderlecht for good.

    According to information gathered today, the striker will leave the Belgian club by the close of the summer transfer window to join Spanish club Eibar.

    It will mean a return to Spain where the forward spent last season. During a loan campaign with FC Cartagena, the 24-year-old scored nine goals and assisted three times after making 35 appearances.

  • Dauda Mohammed scores first ever goal for Anderlecht

    Ghana striker Dauda Mohammed finally broke his goal scoring duck for Belgian giants Anderlecht in their Jupiler Pro league game against Standard Liege.

    Since joining the club two and half years ago, and embarking on several loan spells the former Asante Kotoko striker has now found the back of the net for his parent club in Sunday’s league game.

    The striker scored his side’s third goal after compatriot Francis Amuzu had opened the scores with rapturous delight from the technical bench as if he told them I would score today.

    After Francis Amuzu opener in the 23rd minute, K.M Lawrence added the second in the 73rd minute to make sure of the results.

    Liege reduced the deficit through Selim Amallah before Dauda Mohammed sealed the victory with the last goal which happened to be the last shot on target.

    The former Kotoko and Ghana U-20 star joined Anderlect from Asante Kotoko in the 2016/2017 season and has gone on loan spells at Esbjerg and Vitesse Arnhem.

  • Club Brugge, Anderlecht ‘fight’ for RB Salzburg’s Gideon Mensah

    There is a tussle for the capture of Ghanaian left back Gideon Mensah as Club Brugge and Anderlecht battle for him.

    Gideon Mensah was sent out on loan by his parent club Red Bull Salzburg to Zulte Waregem in Belgum this season.

    There he made himself big with some eye catching performances for his on loan club which caught the attention of the big clubs in Belgium.

    According Belgian outlet, voetbal24.be , both Club Brugge and RSC Anderlecht are very interested in snatching Mensah from Red Bull Salzburg.

    Meanwhile KRC Genk is also mentioned as a possible destination for the in demand full back.

    According to reports, the 21-year-old Ghanaian left-back has an exit clause of six million euros.

    The player who has been capped twice by his native country Ghana is still under contract in Salzburg until summer 2024.

    Mensah moved from Ghana to join FC Liefering in summer 2016.

    And was then farmed out on loan to SK Sturm, where he played 15 games, Mensah showed strong performances. Mensah did not play a game for Red Bull Salzburg.

    Mensah made a total of 23 appearances for Zulte Waregem in the 2019/2020 season scoring three goals.

    Anderlecht have decided to sell their prized winger Jeremy Doku but will only sanction the sale if the right offer comes along, footballghana.com can exclusively report.

    The 17-year-old has been tracked by a number of top clubs in Europe, including Liverpool, who see him as an exciting future addition to their squad.

    Footballghana.com understands that Anderlecht will not think twice on accepting an offer for Doku if one comes in as they seek to reap financial rewards from their biggest youth prospects.

    Yari Verschaeren, an 18 year old and Albert Sambi Lokonga, a 20 year old are also believed to have the same caveat on them.

    Doku is currently self isolating due to the coronavirus which has halted the Belgian Pro League.

  • Anderlecht set to extend Derrick Luckassen’s loan spell

    Belgium giants Anderlecht are set to the extend the loan deal of Dutch born Ghanaian defender Derrick Luckassen at the end of the season.

    The 25-year old defender is currently on loan from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, and has impressed markedly forcing the former Belgium champions to trigger an extension of his stay. Anderlecht can make a permanent move by paying five million Euros for the defender.

    Luckassen has made eighteen Jupiler Pro League appearances this season and has made an assist as a defeander.

    His partnership with ex-Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany is solid rock in the heart of defence for Anderlecht.

    It is yet to be known if PSV will recall the towering defender back but the player in previous interviews revealed he is happy in Belgium.

    Luckassen has spent most of his time away from his parent club after a loan spell in Germany last season before moving to Belgium at the beginning of the campaign due to limited play time.
