  • 2022 World Cup: Winning bonus scrapped, Black Stars players to be paid qualification bonus

Akwasi Agyemang, vice chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, has announced that winning incentive payments will not be made for the 2022 World Cup.

Akwasi Agyemang claims that despite being in a group where many do not think they have a chance of surviving, the players have agreed to only accept qualification bonuses and not winning bonuses.

“We have discussed qualifying incentives with the players in a number of meetings.
The participants concurred since we borrowed a page from our forerunners.

“We explained to the players that the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Finance provide the funding, not the management committee.”

“The players are now aware of what they are entitled to but funding is another issue, which is why President Nana Akufo-Addo organized the fundraiser to get some money from Corporate Ghana for the team”, he said in an interview with Happy FM.

The Black Stars will begin their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign against Portugal on Thursday, November 24, at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar.
