    Signing anti-LGBTQ bill will solidify your legacy – Lawrence Tetteh to Akufo-Addo

    The Founder of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has issued a heartfelt plea to outgoing President Akufo-Addo, urging him to sign the highly debated anti-LGBTQ bill before his tenure concludes.

    Dr. Tetteh emphasized that doing so would not only cement the President’s legacy but also earn him lasting affection and respect from the Ghanaian public.

    In an interview with GH One TV on December 30, 2024, the prominent clergyman argued that signing the bill would be one of Akufo-Addo’s most enduring achievements, strengthening his legacy as a leader committed to Ghana’s values.

    The Reverend expressed dismay over the ongoing lawsuits that have delayed the bill’s passage, describing them as deliberate distractions meant to obstruct progress.

    He recounted his participation in a meeting with the President, alongside religious leaders, to discuss the bill, which he felt failed to produce any concrete resolution.

    “The anti-LGBTQ court issue was a distraction. I was privileged to be part of a nine-member committee that met with the President with Muslim and Christian representatives that felt the bill should be signed.

    “Don’t forget that President Akufo-Addo came on a mantra that moved a lot of Christians ‘The battle is the Lord’s’. He is also a Christian and a fine gentleman who lost his wife unfortunately and remarried which means he believes in family values,” he said in the interview.

    He added, “We thought of this and went to have a 3-hour meeting with His Excellency. A lot of us felt that that court case was a distraction and I think it’s not too late for President Akufo-Addo to sign that bill for Ghana. He should leave that as a legacy and people will love and be proud of him. He is going to be 81 years old on his next birthday and he has nothing to lose.

    “The younger ones will be scared of what the international community will say and the pressure they will mount on us but who cares? I would love for him to leave that legacy for Ghanaians to be proud of him.”

    Dr. Tetteh also pointed out that Akufo-Addo’s hesitation to sign the bill significantly contributed to his government’s defeat in the recent general elections.

    “It played a big role. I mean if politicians are not looking at it from that point of view, they should take it from my point of view because that played a lot of role. Lots of people were very silent but they were not comfortable with it,” he concluded.

    The controversial anti-LGBTQ bill remains unsigned, despite legal challenges lodged against it.

    He condemned the tribulations faced by the nation under Akufo-Addo’s regime, accusing government officials of brazen pillaging and describing the administration as catastrophically ineffectual.

    Addressing journalists, Nana Abodade III conveyed his profound relief that President Akufo-Addo’s time in office would finally conclude in just over a week.

    “Overall, we thank God that the good Lord is about to hand the mantle to President Mahama. As stated in Luke 10:29, Ghana has been stripped naked. Ghana is bleeding; the robbers have stolen all the goodies. But now, a good Samaritan has come to rescue her, restore her to good health, and recover the stolen loot. It was quite clear, but some people just didn’t realize it. Some of us are happy that his reign is coming to an end,” he said.

    Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III further noted that numerous chiefs are glad to witness the departure of President Akufo-Addo, whom they believe showed disrespect toward some of their peers during his tenure.

    “A lot of chiefs are happy. A good friend of mine, who is also a chief, told me, ‘Let’s see if he [Akufo-Addo] will now go around and instruct chiefs to stand up and greet him.’ It is not a good legacy. He could have achieved much more. He had so much revenue and so many opportunities to do good for this country. We pray we never have another Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana. Overall, we thank God that the good Lord is about to give the mantle to President Mahama.”

    A private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has expressed disbelief over what he terms the greed of outgoing President Akufo-Addo.

    Speaking on TV3 during a panel discussion on Saturday, December 28, 2024, Mr Kpebu questioned how someone of Akufo-Addo’s stature could exhibit such tendencies.

    “…I mean, look at the greed. You come in at age 73, and you are so greedy—greedier than John Mahama, who is not even a lawyer,” lawyer Kpebu stated.

    He criticized President Akufo-Addo for what he viewed as a disappointing tenure, highlighting the stark contrast between the high expectations of his leadership and the lackluster outcomes in advancing Ghana’s prosperity.

    “In 2016, I openly voted for Akufo-Addo and supported him because they said he had been prepared for 40 years. So, I keep saying, can you imagine how Akufo-Addo would have been if he had prepared for only 10 years? The story was that Akufo-Addo had been prepared from birth to be president—for 40 years. What would his performance have been like if he had prepared for only ten years? I am sure that by now, Ghana would have ceased to exist.”

    President Akufo-Addo ascended to power after securing victory in the 2016 general election on his third bid for the presidency.

    He will leave office on January 7, 2025, after completing two terms and serving Ghana as president for eight years.

    North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has denounced what he terms “irresponsible and disloyal” actions by officials within the outgoing Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, accusing them of undermining national interest through questionable financial practices.

    In a Facebook post dated December 26, Mr. Ablakwa unveiled what he called an “alarming surge” in last-minute contract approvals and expedited payments ahead of the January 7, 2025, government transition.

    He claimed leaked documents expose financial irregularities that erode public trust and violate governance principles.

    A key example highlighted by the MP involves the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), where the board purportedly greenlit a controversial $750,000 (GHS12 million) electronic servicing agreement with Virtual Security Africa. Despite being in draft form and amid unresolved negotiations, the deal has reportedly sparked consternation within the bank.

    Mr. Ablakwa alleged that intense political pressure is being exerted on ADB to make the full payment by December 27, 2024, even though the agreement has not undergone mandatory audits or due diligence.

    “Top ADB insiders are shocked at the Board’s decision,” he wrote, stating that the hasty process overlooks due diligence and erodes accountability.

    He further pointed out that the President-elect’s Transition Team had explicitly warned against last-minute financial transactions, reiterating a stance similar to the one the New Patriotic Party (NPP) adopted during the 2016 transition period.

    In his statement, Mr. Ablakwa issued a grave caution, declaring that officials who authorize these “questionable transactions” under political coercion will face legal and administrative repercussions under the incoming administration.

    “For God and Country. Ghana First,” he asserted.

    The exposé has ignited public indignation, with numerous citizens and civil society groups calling for swift investigations and punitive measures against those implicated in these alleged “midnight deals.”

    During an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show, Mr. Agyekum attributed the party’s electoral misfortune to widespread public disillusionment, exacerbated by what he described as an air of arrogance from certain party members.

    He also criticized the imposition of unpopular parliamentary candidates, a practice he said alienated the grassroots and compounded the NPP’s woes, noting that these issues unfolded under President Akufo-Addo’s stewardship.

    “The signs were there, and the narrative shows that things have been falling apart for a long time. We failed to heed the warnings and take corrective actions, and that’s what has led us here.

    “The leader always bears the ultimate responsibility—it stops with him. When it’s good, we credit him; when it’s bad, he must share the blame,” he said.

    Mr. Agyekum also expressed dissatisfaction with the selection of candidates for both the presidency and parliamentary seats, labeling the choices as suboptimal and contributing to the party’s challenges.

    “There was arrogance, there was hardship in the system, and it seemed those in power failed to fully recognise the discontent. This disconnect between the leadership and the grassroots likely contributed to the significant defeat.”

    Ghana opens its borders to all African nationals without visa requirements

    President Akufo-Addo has honored his commitment to grant visa-free entry to all African nationals visiting Ghana.

    This initiative, first announced at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD 2024) in January, is designed to promote the unrestricted movement of people, goods, and services within the continent.

    The policy, which received executive approval on December 18, 2024, will be implemented before the end of Akufo-Addo’s presidency on January 6, 2025.

    In line with the African Union’s aspirations for economic integration, the move aligns with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

    Ghana will now join the ranks of countries like Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin that offer visa-free access to all African passport holders.

    This policy is expected to play a key role in advancing Africa’s integration agenda, creating a more interconnected and collaborative business and governmental landscape across the continent.

    In his APD 2024 keynote address, delivered under the theme “Developing Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value, and Trade,” President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to the visa-free initiative.

    “Many of you had to acquire a visa to attend this event,” he said, referencing a special arrangement that reduced visa fees for participants.

    “The government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free travel for all Africans, and the process has begun to implement the policy this year,” he assured attendees.

    The policy has been communicated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, as well as the Ministry of the Interior, both of which have begun preparing for its rollout.

    The Ghana Immigration Service is expected to officially announce the start date, which is anticipated to be Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

    This initiative aims to boost business, tourism, and cultural exchanges across the continent, reinforcing Ghana’s role as a key player in fostering African unity and integration.

    The policy comes in response to criticism surrounding stringent immigration rules in other African countries, underscoring the need for a more open and accessible approach to travel across the continent.

    Business tycoon Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual, highlighted the challenges of dealing with visa requirements, further emphasizing the importance of this policy in easing movement within Africa.

    “As an investor, I have to apply for 35 different visas,” he lamented at a business forum in Rwanda.

    Mr. Dangote’s statement sheds light on the struggles faced by African business leaders and investors, who frequently find it easier to travel to Europe or the United States than to other African countries.

    Ghana, the host country for the AfCFTA Secretariat, has been a strong advocate for the idea of a unified Africa, a vision that was first put forward by the nation’s founding father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

    Unlike Ethiopia, which has received backlash for its stringent visa policies, Ghana’s initiative provides a forward-thinking example for the rest of Africa.

    “I must nevertheless condemn, in no uncertain terms, the unnecessary acts of violence that have tarnished an otherwise exemplary democratic exercise,” he stated.

    The ex-NPP National Chairman, Freddie Blay, has stated that he is prepared to engage with the committee formed by President-elect John Dramani Mahama to lay the groundwork for his Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.

    However, Blay warned that his patience might wear thin during the process, especially given Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s role as the committee’s chair.

    Speaking to JoyNews, “I am saying if it’s a proper organization and has a basis in law and they even invite me that they have something and they want me to appear, Okudzeto, I will meet him. Unfortunately, he will be the chair. If I don’t take care, I might be a little bit… I will lose my temper with him because of what he’s been saying, the disgrace, the defamation, the libellous things he’s been talking and writing. It may provoke me. I wouldn’t know what my reaction will be,” he said.

    The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has made several accusations against members of the Blay family, including claims of illegally acquiring state lands.

    In response to these allegations, Freddie Blay refuted any wrongdoing, insisting that neither he nor his children, Kwame and Kwaw, who were mentioned by the MP, were involved in any illicit activities.

    “My family has not taken a pesewa from the Ghana government unlawfully. We have not taken any government land unlawfully. We have not done anything that you can blame me for. If Okudzeto now is convinced that I’ve done that, then I’m a little careful about what ORAL wants to do,” he said in an interview with Accra-based JoyNews.

    “I’ve sued him for defamation, and my two children have sued him also for defamation because we have not taken any government land and yet give that impression. He organizes people with placards and makes it look as if my two sons and I have stolen government lands. He calls that state capture. That I will resist. I want to tell you that he is shooting after shadows because we have not done that,” he explained.

    President Mahama’s ORAL team, headed by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is tasked with collecting relevant information to be forwarded to the appropriate institutions for further investigation.

    The committee also includes Raymond Archer, Martin Kpebu, COP Nathaniel Kof Boakye (retired), and Daniel Yao Domelevo.

    Justice Cecilia Naa Shormeh Davis pledged her unwavering commitment to dispensing justice with integrity and fairness.

    “I assure you, Your Excellency that I have just taken three Oaths and I promise to live by them by the Grace of God. I promise to discharge my duties, to dispense justice in accordance with the law, to all manner of persons without fear or favour,” she added.

    Justice Davis’ legal journey began with her appointment as a High Court Judge on July 15, 2016, by then-Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood. Her appointment followed a major judicial reform after a corruption scandal rocked the judiciary.

    During her tenure at the High Court, Justice Davis presided over numerous significant cases, solidifying her reputation for promoting justice and adherence to the rule of law. Her rulings consistently emphasized the importance of following proper legal procedures and respecting judicial processes, earning her recognition as a beacon of fairness and diligence in Ghana’s judiciary.

    Justice Davis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and History from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Barrister-at-Law certificate from the Ghana School of Law, qualifying her as a lawyer in 1990. She also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the University of Ghana Business School and a Certificate in Media Law from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

    Her extensive legal background spans roles at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Serious Fraud Office (now EOCO), and the Graphic Communications Group Limited. These diverse roles provided her with invaluable experience, shaping her into a seasoned legal professional and an authoritative voice in the judicial system.

    During the launch of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s Bicentennial Anniversary on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Osu Castle, Dr. Kwakye emphasized the critical importance of the bill and encouraged the President to strengthen his legacy by endorsing it.

    “The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, for us Presbyterians, having given the bill our support at the time when the church was led by my predecessor, we interpreted this as our birthday gift for this year.

    Your Excellency, make our joy complete, we are confident that in these last days, you will make our joy complete by assenting the bill so that it becomes a law in Ghana.

    “We seek to preserve the values of the African people through the gospel. And we are confident that Sir you will do so.”

    Dr. Kwakye’s statement follows the Supreme Court’s unanimous rejection of two petitions challenging the legality of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, often referred to as the anti-gay bill.

    On December 18, the Court dismissed separate challenges filed by lawyer and journalist Richard Dela Sky and Amanda Odoi.

    The bill, passed by Parliament on February 28, 2024, has sparked intense debate nationwide. Proponents argue it protects traditional family structures, while opponents contend it violates human rights.

    Even though the Court has dismissed the petitions, the bill’s fate remains uncertain, as President Akufo-Addo had previously indicated that he would await the resolution of all pending legal matters before making a final decision.

    The Minority Leader assured that the NDC would take immediate action once in power to stabilize the economy and meet essential spending requirements.

    President Akufo-Addo recently awarded Presidential Charters to 14 universities in a formal ceremony at the Jubilee House.

    Among the recipients were the Academic City University College, KAAF University College, Entrance University College of Health Sciences, and Garden City University College, as well as other institutions such as Family Health University College, Ensign Global College, and Thrivus Institute for Biomedical Science and Technology.

    Additional universities receiving charters include the Heritage Christian University College, University College of Gold Coast (formerly Accra Business School), Knutsford University College, and Nobel International Business School. Also included were Accra Metropolitan University College (formerly Laweh University College), the African University College of Communications and Business, and the National Defence College.

    The ceremony was attended by a range of high-profile figures, including Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Chief of Defence Staff Lt. Gen. Thomas Oppong-Peprah, and various senior officials from GTEC and the universities.

    In his remarks, President Akufo-Addo noted that obtaining a Presidential Charter is the highest recognition for a tertiary institution in Ghana.

    She stated that the incoming government shouldn’t need to buy extra vehicles, especially expensive SUVs, in order to save taxpayers’ money.

    Based on his own experience, Aboagye described President Akufo-Addo as approachable and friendly, rejecting the label of arrogance.

    “Akufo-Addo, by his persona and demeanour, may appear arrogant if you are watching him from afar.

    But anyone who has worked with him, like the CSOs and even you, Samson, will disagree and say he is not arrogant,” he told Joy News’ Samson Lardy Anyenini on the show.

    “I have worked with him as a presidential staffer, and I don’t think he is anywhere near arrogance. He is, however, a very firm person. He will say it as it is, and if he has a disagreement with you, he will express it directly. Such interactions can sometimes misrepresent who he really is.”

    He emphasised, “These are individual perspectives, so Akufo-Addo is not arrogant.”

    When discussing whether his alleged arrogance contributed to the NPP’s defeat in the election, Mr Aboagye expressed disbelief. He said the party would focus on reworking its approach to regain power in 2028.

    “We need to work with our people to help them understand the circumstances under which their concerns and sentiments arose. Secondly, we must learn from this experience,” he said.

    Unlike past administrations that allowed political appointees to purchase one official saloon vehicle through valuation by the State Transport Company Ltd., President Akufo-Addo has reiterated that “this practice will not be applicable under his administration.”

    The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to take swift and decisive action to maintain law and order following the outcome of the 2024 general elections.

    The GJA expressed deep concern over reports of widespread attacks on state institutions, allegedly carried out by individuals believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). These incidents include acts of vandalism and disturbances at critical government offices and installations.

    Speaking to the media on Tuesday, December 10, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour called on President Akufo-Addo, in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, to take steps to safeguard Ghana’s stability and ensure peace across the country.

    “We are calling on the President of the Land, who is still President until January 7 and is the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to ensure that there is law and order and to ensure that Ghana remains as peaceful as it was before and during the elections,” Mr. Dwumfour stated.

    He emphasized the President’s constitutional responsibility, urging him to deploy the necessary security measures to restore calm.

    “I know it is his constitutional mandate to do that, and once he is still at post, we call on him to ensure that the security rises to the task to calm the tension of Ghanaians down.”

    The GJA further appealed to political leaders, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders to collaborate in de-escalating tensions and promoting national unity.

    The association reminded citizens of the need to uphold order and respect democratic processes to safeguard Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

    President Nana Akufo-Addo has named the individuals who will represent the government on the Transition Team.

    In a statement released on Tuesday, December 10, it was noted that the appointments were made in line with Section 1 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).

    Below is the list of members appointed to the Transition Team:

    The statement said that the Team will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, following a meeting between the President and the President-elect, who will serve as Co-Chairpersons of the Team.

    President Akufo-Addo has appointed Akosua Frema Osei-Opare to serve as Co-Chairperson of the Transition Team in his absence.

    In addition, under Section 5(1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, the President has selected former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, to join the Advisory Council. The council will be led by the current Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Alban Bagbin.

    The statement also mentioned that President-elect John Mahama announced the members of his side of the Transition Team on Tuesday evening.

    “The team is tasked with ensuring a seamless and efficient transfer of executive authority, as mandated by the Act, to maintain stability and continuity in governance,” the statement read.

    It reaffirmed President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition to strengthen the nation’s democratic credentials further.

    Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, has announced that outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended an invitation to President-elect John Dramani Mahama for a meeting to commence the transition process for the handover of power.

    This announcement follows the declaration by the Electoral Commission of John Dramani Mahama as the President-elect of Ghana in the aftermath of the December 7 presidential election.

    President Akufo-Addo personally called the President-elect to congratulate him on his decisive victory.

    A press release signed by Eugene Arhin states that President Akufo-Addo is prepared to begin the transition process immediately.

    “In the spirit of collaboration, the President has invited the President-elect for a meeting on Wednesday, 11th December 2024, at Jubilee House to initiate the transition process. He remains committed to the principles of good governance and a peaceful transition that will further strengthen Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa,” a part of the statement indicated. 

    In line with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), President-elect John Dramani Mahama is expected to make key appointments within 24 hours of his declaration to ensure a smooth transition of power. 

    The Head of the Staff of the President-elect’s Office and key members overseeing Presidential Affairs, Legal Affairs, Finance, Defence, Foreign Affairs, Interior, Local Government, and National Security will be appointed as part of the transition process. 

    These roles are vital for promoting transparency, ensuring stability, and facilitating effective governance as Mahama moves into his new leadership role.

    Earlier, President Akufo-Addo expressed his unwillingness to hand over power to John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing that he had defeated him twice in previous elections. 

    He further stated that Mahama’s criticisms of his administration’s achievements made him believe, “He will destroy the work that I have done.

    However, his recent statements show a change of mind and his dedication to protecting the country’s democracy and ensuring a smooth handover of power.

    Inspector General of Police (IGP) COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has vowed to intensify the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, warning that it poses a severe risk to national security and environmental sustainability.

    Addressing the Regional Police Commanders’ Conference, COP Yohuno highlighted the escalating dangers of illegal mining, particularly in the Western North region.

    He noted that criminal groups engaged in these activities have carried out violent attacks on civilians and forest guards, creating a climate of fear and lawlessness.

    “This lawlessness must not be allowed to continue” he said.

    The IGP emphasized that galamsey operations have not only devastated the environment but have also contributed to rising criminal activities.

    He pointed out that security personnel attempting to curb the menace have been met with hostility, further complicating enforcement efforts.

    To tackle the crisis, COP Yohuno directed all regional commanders to ramp up enforcement efforts and adopt a unified strategy to dismantle illegal mining networks.

    “We are declaring war on illegal mining, and I expect every regional commander to take decisive action, to bring perpetrators to justice,” he concluded.

    The renewed commitment from the police leadership comes amid growing calls from the public and environmental groups for stronger action against galamsey.

    With this directive, the security services are expected to intensify efforts to protect Ghana’s natural resources and restore order in affected communities.

    A group of unidentified individuals attacked the headquarters of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at Kanda in Accra on Monday morning.

    The thugs, alleged to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), arrived at the office complex demanding that the staff vacate the premises.

    A photo of President Akufo-Addo and other officials was damaged by the youth in front of the reception area. However, the youth could not gain full access to the main offices to cause further damage.

    “The place has been besieged by thugs, and I don’t know where they are coming from. They are harassing everybody,” a staff member who engaged JoyNews said.

    The staff member further claimed that “Every time there is a change in power, officers of NADMO are attacked for no reason,” adding, “We came to the office this morning to work, and the whole place is besieged.”

    The individual explained that they had to take cover in one of the offices while making the report. “The thugs were demanding we vacate the office and hand over the keys to the facility,” the staff member continued. “I had to go into hiding to call you; they have taken over the frontage of our office, and there are quite a number of them.”

    Some military personnel later arrived at the NADMO office to restore order and ensure the security of the premises.

    President Nana Akufo-Addo cast his vote in Kyebi, his hometown in the East Akim constituency of the Eastern Region, shortly after polls opened nationwide.

    He was accompanied by his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and described the voting process as smooth and efficient. “I have voted. The process was excellent, very simple,” he said.

    The President also praised the peaceful conduct of this year’s elections, stating, “Reports from across the country show that the election is going well and being conducted peacefully.”

    Speaking to the media, he commended Ghanaians for their commitment to democracy, saying, “Our people are showing their dedication to democratic principles, and for that, we must be thankful to God.”

    He encouraged everyone who had not yet voted to do so, emphasising the importance of every vote. “Please go out and vote. Every vote matters, and your voice counts in shaping our future,” he urged.

    Mr. Akufo-Addo expressed hope for a successful outcome of the election, where the majority of Ghanaians would accept the result.

    “We want to have a situation where, at the end of the day, the majority of Ghanaians are satisfied with the outcome.”

    Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia voted earlier in his hometown in the Northern Region. Former President John Mahama also cast his vote after visiting his late father’s grave for traditional prayers.

    “Tomorrow, Saturday, 7th December, we head to the polls to elect a new President of the Republic and members of the ninth Parliament to steer the affairs of our nation,” he said.

    Looking back on his time as President and Ghana’s democratic growth, Akufo-Addo expressed great pride in the nation’s progress. He pointed out the shift in perspectives on elections, especially among younger citizens, who now view voting as a customary yet crucial element of civic duty.

    “Democracy is not just the right to vote; it is the right to live in dignity,” the President stated, underscoring the broader significance of democratic governance. He added that Ghana’s consistent ability to hold peaceful elections has cemented its reputation as a beacon of stability on the African continent.

    Citing Thomas Jefferson, Akufo-Addo reminded the people that “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” stressing the importance of consistently safeguarding and fostering the nation’s democratic spirit.

    As the country gears up for the elections, the President expressed strong faith in the Electoral Commission’s capacity to ensure a fair and trustworthy process. He commended the institution as a fundamental pillar of Ghana’s democracy and encouraged all citizens to back its efforts.

    “We have every reason to trust the Electoral Commission,” he affirmed. “It is an institution that has proven itself to be transparent, efficient, and capable of delivering free, fair, and credible elections.”

    Akufo-Addo also acknowledged the lively and dynamic atmosphere of Ghana’s campaign season, describing it as “vibrant, energetic, and full of passion.” With the campaign now concluded, he encouraged Ghanaians to take time for thoughtful reflection and be ready to cast their votes wisely.

    Recognizing the importance of security in ensuring a smooth election, the President reassured citizens that all necessary steps had been taken to uphold peace and order throughout the process.

    “The security agencies, led by the Ghana Police Service, have made the necessary deployments and preparations to ensure peace, law, and order before, during, and after the election,” he said. He called on the electorate to cooperate with security personnel and refrain from acts of violence or intimidation.

    Quoting a timeless principle, he added, “Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means.”

    President Akufo-Addo urged citizens to take part in the election, calling it not only a civic duty but also a moral obligation.

    “Go out, cast your ballot freely for your preferred candidate, and do so in an environment of peace and dignity,” he urged. “The ballot is stronger than the bullet, and through it, we can shape the future of our beloved nation.”

    President Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the Phase II of the Tema Motorway Interchange on Monday, December 2, 2024.

    This marks the third interchange that President Akufo-Addo has inaugurated within just two weeks.

    On November 19, President Akufo-Addo inaugurated the Flowerpot Interchange in Accra, and ten days later commissioned the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange.

    The Phase II expansion of the Tema Motorway Interchange boasts a fully integrated three-tier design, including a flyover seamlessly linking Tema Harbour to Akosombo.

    The project incorporates a durable steel gutter bridge built to top-tier specifications.

    The design and construction of Phases I and II amounted to an estimated cost of $91 million.

    Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, reiterated his administration’s dedication to promoting fair development throughout Ghana.

    He emphasized that infrastructure plays a pivotal role in national progress, serving as a cornerstone for advancing development across the country.

    “The commissioning of this interchange is part of a deliberate strategy to decentralise economic opportunities and ensure equitable development across the nation. From the Pokuase Interchange; the largest in West Africa, to the Tamale Interchange; the first of its kind in Northern Ghana, we have worked tirelessly to open up our country, reduce disparities, and empower communities.

    “Our commitment extends beyond roads. We are investing significantly in other critical sectors, including railways, healthcare and education, thereby laying the foundation for a resilient, economically vibrant and inclusive Ghana,” he stated.

    The honoured pilots, who completed the requisite training, include Flt. Lt. Christopher Yaw Asuka, Flt. Lt. Wisdom Seshie Deku, Flt. Lt. Akrashie Appoe, Fg Offr.     Among the honorees, Flt. Lt. Christopher Yaw Asuka received the Speed Bird Trophy for attaining the highest standard in flying and airmanship, as well as the JE Barnor Award for outstanding rotary wing aircraft flying skills. Flt. Lt. Abdul-Baasit Salifu was presented with the JA Bruce Award for excellence in fixed-wing aircraft flying skills.

    According to Nkansah, the current administration’s Agenda 111 project demonstrates an unprecedented commitment to equitable healthcare delivery across Ghana.

    In a Facebook post on Thursday, November 28, Nkansah commended President Akufo-Addo for pursuing an ambitious vision of building hospitals in every district, describing it as a game-changer in national development.

    He criticized former President Mahama’s approach, claiming it was concentrated in the Greater Accra Region at the expense of the rest of the country. “On which President did better with providing Health Infrastructure, President Akufo-Addo has ensured every District is getting a hospital, whereas Fmr. Prez Mahama built 3 or 4 big hospitals in Greater Accra, if we even grant him UGMC, which is a Prez Mills project,” Nkansah stated.

    He argued that the comparison between the two leaders in terms of healthcare development is clear, emphasizing that President Akufo-Addo’s focus on district-level healthcare facilities reflects a broader, more inclusive strategy.

    “Some people in Accra will draw conclusions based on 4 facilities in Gt. Accra when one president is touching every part of the country. The difference is not even close,” he added.

    Former President John Mahama has descended heavily on President Akufo-Addo over claims that intermittent power outages (dumsor) were not resolved before he left office.

    President Nana Akufo-Addo, in a recent address claimed that, unlike other past presidents who are remembered for their significant contributions, Mr. Mahama’s legacy is tied to “Dumsor” — the frequent power outages that plagued his administration.

    During the commissioning of the Sekyere Afram Plains District Hospital in Drobonso on Monday, 25th November, he said: “If he couldn’t maintain a 12-hour power supply during his presidency, how can he promise a 24-hour economy? Stop the lies,” he stated.

    In a rebuttal, the former president referenced Proverbs 19:9, encouraging the president to desist from lying and focus on preparing himself for heaven as liar would not be allowed access to God’s kingdom.

    “You know, liars cannot go to heaven. And let me give you a Bible quotation, Proverbs Chapter 19:9, he said, those who bear false witness will not go unpunished and the liars will be destroyed. If you lie, you will not go to heaven. At his age, he should be preparing his soul for heaven. So if you stop lying.”

    He added, “I expect that when NPP is telling lies, they’ll leave it to the younger ones and the junior ones to do. But when the senior ones like Nana Akufo-Addo says that Dumsor was not solved before we came, I heard him say that if we could not keep the lights on, how can we run 24-hour economy. In 2016 dumsor had been solved. Nobody’s lights went off in 2016 nobody had load shedding in 2016 that is on record,” he responded.

    On Tuesday, November 27, 2024, Akufo-Addo visited the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to personally thank the Asantehene and the chiefs as his term nears its conclusion.

    He acknowledged that his presidency would not have been possible without the backing of Asanteman, highlighting their significant role in his achievements.

    The president particularly lauded the Asantehene for his instrumental role in resolving the longstanding Dagbon chieftaincy dispute, a resolution that occurred under Akufo-Addo’s leadership.

    He further noted that this peace had allowed him to be installed as a Dagomba chief.

    “If not for Asanteman, I would not have become president. I’m eternally grateful for all the help you gave me during my tenure as president. There are a lot of things you have done for me, some of which I can’t mention in public. But there are some I have to mention, like the Dagbon chieftaincy conflict. The conflict had been raging for about 15 years when I came in, with nobody being able to resolve it.

    “President Kufuor appointed you as the chairman of the committee for you to look into the conflict together with the Yagbonwura and Nayiri, and it was during my tenure that it was resolved. I know that if not for your leadership, this would not have happened, and I’m also very grateful for this,” he stated.

    He added, “Because of the work you did at Dagbon, I have been given a stool there – I’m a Dagomba chief.”

    The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for constructing over 200 hospitals during his tenure.

    In a Facebook post on Tuesday, November 26, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah described this achievement as unprecedented in Ghana’s history, emphasizing that it cements President Akufo-Addo’s status as the leader who has built the most hospitals in the country.

    “President Akufo-Addo has built over 200 hospitals. Over 60 completed so far. He holds the record as the President to have built most hospitals. Yesterday, he commissioned four (4) VAMED hospitals at a go in the Ashanti Region,” he stated.

    Highlighting the recent hospital inaugurations, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah mentioned the newly commissioned Sabronum Government Hospital, Sekyere Afram Plains District Hospital, Suame Municipal Hospital, and Twedie Government Hospital.

    He noted that these developments reflect the administration’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare across the nation, a legacy he believes will leave an indelible mark on Ghana’s health sector.

    President Nana Akufo-Addo has lauded the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs for their unwavering support throughout his presidency, describing their partnership as pivotal to his administration’s success.

    Speaking during a meeting with the chiefs on Tuesday, November 26, as part of his three-day tour of the Ashanti Region, President Akufo-Addo expressed his deep gratitude for their cooperation and encouragement.

    The president emphasizing that the collaboration between his administration and the traditional leaders was a cornerstone of stability in the region.

    He highlighted the vital role the chiefs played in advancing developmental projects, noting that their backing made it easier to implement key policies and initiatives that have benefitted the region.

    President Akufo-Addo also acknowledged the enduring relationship between his administration and the Ashanti Region’s traditional authorities, affirming that their support had been instrumental in fostering progress.

    As his tenure nears its conclusion, the President reiterated his commitment to maintaining the strong partnership with the chiefs and promised continued attention to the region’s needs.

    President Akufo-Addo’s contributions to education have been hailed as unmatched by the Paramount Chiefs and Queenmothers of the Ashanti Region during his three-day tour of the area.

    The traditional leaders warmly welcomed the President, affectionately referring to him as their “Precious President.” They expressed gratitude for his efforts in advancing the region’s development throughout his tenure.

    “‘Nana, you have done a lot. Nana, you have done well.’ Your contribution to education is unparalleled. The number of children who have had the chance to get secondary education. How can we forget. We know that it’s constitutional for you to leave, otherwise we would have wanted you to stay in office,” one chief said, lauding the Free Senior High School initiative and its transformative impact.

    Highlighting other achievements, the traditional leaders also praised the President for improving infrastructure in the region.

    “Let’s talk about roads. The long travel distances that we would travel have been cut short. Otherwise, the body pains we experienced were tough,” a chief remarked, acknowledging the government’s road projects.

    The chiefs and queenmothers further commended the President for overseeing the completion of 18 hospitals in the region, some of which have already been commissioned and are operational.

    “We thank you for 18 hospitals out of which you have completed some and you have been commissioning already and people are already in it working,” another leader noted.

    President Akufo-Addo, in response, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the traditional leaders’ support. Speaking on Tuesday, November 26, he recognized their partnership as a key factor in the success of his administration.

    The President also acknowledged the contributions of his appointees from the Ashanti Region, emphasizing their dedication to serving the nation.

    On Monday, November 25, 2024, President Akufo-Addo inaugurated four of the five newly completed 40-bed district hospitals in the Ashanti region.

    These hospitals, located in Drobonso (Sekyere Afram Plains), Sabronum (Ahafo Ano South East), Twedie (Atwima Kwanwoma), and Suame (Suame Municipal), are part of the government’s extensive healthcare development program. A fifth hospital, situated in Manso Nkwanta (Amansie West District), has also been completed but awaits commissioning.

    The initiative began in 2020 when Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu launched the construction of twelve 40-bed hospitals across the Ashanti, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions, along with a polyclinic in Mim, Brong Ahafo. VAMED Engineering GmbH of Austria handled the construction of these facilities, with other hospitals built in Jumapo, Kwabeng, Nkwatia, Achiase, Adukrom, Mim, and Kpone Katamanso.

    To fund the project, a €71.5 million loan was secured from Erste Group Bank AG and Česká Spořitelna a.s., which also included the development of housing for healthcare staff—12 two-bedroom semi-detached units at each hospital.

    Each facility is well-equipped with essential medical departments such as Outpatient Departments, Public Health facilities, and patient care areas including surgical suites, maternity wards, paediatric wards, and recovery rooms.

    In his remarks, President Akufo-Addo encouraged local communities and hospital staff to ensure these new healthcare facilities are well-managed and maintained. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality health services throughout the country.

    President Akufo-Addo has labeled the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama a failed president, asserting that Mahama is the only former leader whose tenure was marked by poor performance, preventing him from remaining in office.

    Akufo-Addo noted that while previous presidents are remembered for their substantial contributions to the country, Mahama’s legacy is primarily defined by “Dumsor,” the ongoing power crises during his administration.

    The President also took issue with the NDC’s proposal for a “24-hour economy,” raising doubts about how their flagbearer, John Mahama, would be able to implement such a policy effectively.

    “If he could not keep the lights on for 12 hours during his tenure as president, how can he sustain a 24-hour economy? Stop that lies,” he remarked, labelling the policy as deceitful.

    While speaking at the inauguration of the Sekyere Afram Plains District Hospital in Drobonso on Monday, November 25, President Akufo-Addo praised the success of the Free SHS policy, calling it a transformative development for the education sector.

    He highlighted that many students who were once unable to access secondary education are now enrolled and benefiting from the policy.

    In closing, the President urged the public to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stressing that he is the ideal candidate to carry on his legacy.

    “My Vice will take over the projects that we couldn’t complete. Before I assumed office, over 1,000 BECE candidates were not able to access secondary education, due to lack of finances. Over ten years, one million young Ghanaians were not able to access secondary education.

    “In parts of the world, the government pay school fees of young people. We also decided that Ghana could do the same. That’s why we introduced the Free SHS policy, eight hundred thousand students were in SHS, and now, the number has doubled to 1.6 million. 5.7 million young Ghanaians have benefitted from the SHS policy.

    “Please two people are contesting the presidency, one of them was not allowed to continue his term because he failed. All the other presidents were offered the second term, but this particular one  [Mahama] was booted out. Mahama is noted for Dumsor, how can such a person lead Ghana again?

    Sekyere Afram Plains District Hospital to be commissioned today

    President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will today, November 25, commission the newly constructed Sekyere Afram Plains District Hospital as part of his three-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.

    The hospital, located in Drobonso, is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery in the area.

    Following the ceremony at Drobonso, the President will proceed to Sabronum in the Ahafo Ano South-East District to inaugurate another district hospital.

    Later in the day, he will visit Trede in Atwima Kwanwoma to open yet another district hospital, before commissioning the Atafoa-Owabi River Bridge in Bantama.

    The tour will culminate in Suame, where the President will commission the Suame Municipal Hospital, and in Adum, where he will unveil the new office complex of the Audit Service.
