My first musical experience was singing in church – E.L

Ghanaian rapper Elorm Adablah, known professionally as E.L, recently shared insights into his musical journey during an interview on 3FM Lounge with AJ Sarpong.

Reflecting on his early experiences, E.L explained that his path to becoming a musician was gradual rather than the result of a single pivotal moment.

His initial foray into music began in church, where he sang in the choir and learned to play the keyboard and piano.

“I wouldn’t say there was a specific time in my life where I was going to do music. I guess it creeped up on him in stages. My earliest memory of having that musical experience was me being in church singing in the choir, they got me a keyboard and I started playing it and the piano.

“It was a very evolutionary process that led me to this place. I was in PRESEC and I joined Skillions, a rap group and before you knew it, I was on stage performing so I have just been led to this path by my Guardian angel,” E.L said on Thursday, July 25.

This formative experience laid the groundwork for his later involvement with music.

While at PRESEC Legon, he joined the rap group Skillions, which marked the beginning of his performance career. E.L described his musical evolution as a natural progression guided by what he feels was a guardian angel.

In addition to discussing his early experiences, E.L offered advice to fellow artists about the importance of self-production.

He emphasized that learning to produce one’s own beats can be highly beneficial, as it allows artists to directly express their creative ideas without intermediaries.

“I have told this to all my friends, the earlier you start learning how to produce your own beats if you are a musician the better.

“I have gotten through a few of them and they realise like its so much easier to bring out the idea directly yourself than to go through to someone,” he added.

E.L, who has been away from the music scene for a period, is set to make a comeback with his new album, Bar 7.

Scheduled for release on Friday, July 26, the album features 13 tracks and collaborations with various artists, and will be available on all streaming platforms.

In a chat with AJ Sarpong on 3FM Lounge, E.L explained that his journey into music wasn’t marked by a single defining moment but rather evolved gradually.

He recalled his early experiences singing in the church choir and learning to play the keyboard as foundational moments.

“I wouldn’t say there was a specific time in my life where I was going to do music. I guess it creeped up on him in stages. My earliest memory of having that musical experience was me being in church singing in the choir, they got ne a keyboard and I started playing and the piano.

E.L, who was part of the rap group Skillions during his time at PRESEC, mentioned that his musical path unfolded organically. He emphasized that he feels his career has been steered by divine guidance.

As a sound producer, E.L shared his perspective on the importance of mastering beat production.

He advised fellow musicians to learn how to create their own beats, noting that this skill can simplify the creative process and provide greater control over their music.

“I have told this to all my friends, the earlier you start learning how to produce your own beats if you are a musician, the better.

“I have gotten through a few of them and they realise like its so much easier to bring out the idea directly yourself than to go through to someone,” he added.

After a period away from the spotlight, E.L is set to release a new album titled ‘Bar 7’ on July 26.

The album, which includes 13 tracks, will be available on all streaming platforms and features collaborations with various artists.

I like beans with plantain chips – Berla Mundi

Television personality, Berlinda Addardey known popularly as Berla Mundi has disclosed her unique taste sensation by combining the Ghanaian staple “Gob3” beans with crunchy plantain chips.

During her appearance on the Day Show discussing the 3FM “Gob3” festival, Berla shared nostalgic memories of her school days, where she and her peers would turn their regular Wednesday or Thursday beans routine into a delightful experience by adding plantain chips purchased from a nearby shop.

Berla emphasised the sheer satisfaction of this unconventional pairing, revealing that she enjoyed it without the traditional addition of gari.

“I remember when I was in school, they would give us beans every Wednesday or Thursday, so I used to go and buy plantain chips,

So in Motown, just opposite the dining hall, there was this shop that we bought from, so we just bought and added it to it. “

The discussion took an interesting turn when AJ Sarpong, another participant on the show, revealed her initial association of “Gob3” with the dish red-red.

AJ’s childhood perception was of beans stew and soft plantain, and she expressed surprise upon discovering the practice of consuming raw beans with oil, taking about two years to adjust to the plain beans concept.

“It was always stew, so it was very interesting to grow up and realize that people eat raw beans with oil,” AJ Sarpong remarked

“Gob3,” a Ghanaian dish of beans and gari known for its simplicity and budget-friendly nature, has evolved with exciting additions like fried plantains and eggs.

Meanwhile, plantain chips, the crunchy snacks made from thinly sliced, unripe plantains, traditionally deep-fried, offer a healthier option when baked.
Berla Mundi’s revelation of combining beans with plantain chips introduces a whole new delicacy, adding a flavorful twist to the traditional “Gob3” experience.

  • I’m optimistic though investing in fresh talents is a risk – Kaywa

I’m optimistic though investing in fresh talents is a risk – Kaywa

Record producer David Kojo Kyei, also known as Kaywa, has shared his perspective on investing in emerging talents in the music industry.

On June 5, he revealed his four new signees (Cadeen, Joevibe, Shugalord, and JoyVerse) on his Instagram page after parting ways with his previous label mates.

When questioned about the lack of female signees, Kaywa explained that signing female artists requires additional effort and expenses, which is why they are currently focusing on male talents.

During his appearance on 3FM Drive with Giovanni Caleb and AJ Sarpong on July 18, the CEO of Highly Spiritual Music Label disclosed that specific criteria had to be met before investing in these new talents.

“Usually, we look at the passion behind what you do and whether you love it… At least they know where they are going so it’s easy to push them. We look out for that more. We look at people who understand and fear God because when you do, there are certain things you wouldn’t do,” he stated.

In regards to financing his endeavors, Kaywa candidly expressed the difficulty of obtaining funds. He emphasized the expense of shooting high-quality videos and the continuous need for funding to keep projects running.

Despite the risks involved in investing in new talents, Kaywa believes that venturing into his line of work is lucrative.

He acknowledged that it’s not an easy path, but he finds it worthwhile as some of these talents possess exceptional abilities that should not be overlooked. To potential investors, he urged them to consider the potential rewards while being aware of the inherent risks.

“It really is if you do it well. Check your streaming platforms and ask any artiste that does it pretty well, you’ll know that there is some great money coming in if you are doing it well.

It’s business but it’s a risk. Putting money in fresh talents is not an easy job but we trust the process. Sometimes, there is no money but looking at the talent, you just can’t allow it to go to waste so you do everything to make it work,” he concluded.
