    The broadcast journalist’s goal is to surpass the current Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon in Ghana, held by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare.

    Waghmare’s remarkable record, established by singing for 105 hours from March 3 to March 7, 2012, is currently at 102 hours.

    The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, conveying support on Facebook, said, “Wishing Afua Asantewaa O Aduonum all the best as she takes on the challenge of breaking the singathon record set by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare. Your passion and talent shine brightly, and I’m confident you’ll definitely make history. Keep singing your heart out! We are with you.”

    Aduonum, a mother of three, commenced the marathon with Osibisa’s iconic track ‘Woyaya’ and seamlessly transitioned into a medley of seasonal Ghanaian gospel hits by artistes such as Tagoe Sisters, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Yaw Sarpong, and Esther Smith.

    Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa has embarked on an ambitious endeavor to break the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, currently standing at 105 hours. The nearly five-day event commenced precisely at 12:00 am on Sunday, December 24th, and is set to conclude on December 27th, 2023.

    Asantewaa sees this as a unique opportunity to showcase outstanding Ghanaian music to a global audience. Committed to promoting local talent, she has pledged to exclusively perform Ghanaian music throughout her record-breaking attempt.

    The event, held at Akwaaba Village, is anticipated to draw thousands of music enthusiasts and well-wishers who wish to support Asantewaa in this historic feat.

    To validate her record-breaking attempt, Asantewaa must meticulously document her preparations, including practices, interviews, and incorporate these into the official video recording of the attempt.

    During the marathon, Asantewaa is permitted to sit, stand, or lie down as long as she continues singing. However, unlike traditional music performances, she cannot engage in activities like humming or drumming. The rules allow her to talk in between songs.

    Afua Asantewaa, a Ghanaian attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, has appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to avoid power outages during her record attempt.

    She emphasized the importance of uninterrupted power supply for the success of her event. Asantewaa specifically requested that ECG refrain from power outages until the last week of December.

    “…from 23rd all the way to the end of December, because we don’t know when we are stopping this, we could get carried away, please hold the power for us,” she said.

    Afua Asantewaa is aiming to break the existing Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, which stands at 117 hours. She initially planned to start singing on December 23 and conclude on December 27, attempting to sing for about 120 hours.

    Notably, a Nigerian TikToker named Jasmine Sing is also concurrently attempting to break the same Guinness World Record. As of the latest information, Jasmine has already sung for 37 hours, with a goal to reach 120 hours in her marathon.

    As Afua Asantewaa gears up to potentially set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous singing marathon, she has made a request to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the event.

    Scheduled to perform incessantly from the 24th to the 27th of December at Akwaaba Village, Asantewaa voiced her appeal during her second media briefing at Akwaaba Park. The briefing was attended by notable figures including Akwesi Agyeman, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority; Agnes Adu, CEO of Ghana Trade Fair; and music producer Kwesi Ernest.

    A video posted by ZionFelix on Instagram captured the singer mentioning that her team has arranged for backup power solutions.

    Nevertheless, she has sought ECG’s support in maintaining a stable power supply to facilitate her record-breaking attempt without any disruptions.

    “Preparations are far advanced and we are making standbys, generators, and plants available. I am even told there is something called UPS but please ECG, like during this period, please spare me. Let’s pile it up for the second week in January. So, I am pleading, ECG, from the 23rd all the way to the end of December because we do not know when we are stopping this. We could get carried away. Please hold the power for us. I am pleading with ECG,” she said.

    The CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority has urged the Ghanaian community to unite in support of Afua Asantewaa’s endeavor to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon. Asantewaa aims to surpass the current record held by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, who set the milestone in 2012 with a remarkable 105-hour singing marathon.
