She noted that there were medical practitioners from various fields who came on board to offer support to her.
Recounting her experience to Joy FM’s entertainment journalist Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z, the doctor said even though Afua wanted to quit on the second day, she got encouraged and revitalized to continue.
She noted that the original plan was for her to end the program on Thursday, December 28, 2023, but Afua had suggested she wanted to extend it to Sunday, December 31, 2023.
“The original pan wasn’t for end on yesterday [Friday December 29, 2023] like we did, it was supposed to be the day before [Thursday] so we actually had a meeting with the family, the main players and everything and we had a beautiful exit plan.
But then in the morning when we were supposed to wrap up, we didn’t know where the energy came from. Now she had a lot of energy and started going on again with the singing and all, so we said let’s allow her for some hours again and see how it goes. But later in the evening again we realised a dip. A lot of fatique had set in; not just physically but mentally as well, so you realised there were dead times when she wasn’t really singing so we wanted to stop at that point but during that time she even said she even wanted to end on Sunday,” she told the host Kwame Dadzie.

She further noted that they had to come to an agreement with Afua and explain to her why she needed to end the singing marathon earlier than she wanted.
Dr. Buckman also explained that there was a lot of toll on Afua’s body, and the medical team was not only concerned about what was happening at the moment but the aftermath. They were scared Afua could have health issues after the event.
A team of 26 health practitioners helped Afua on this project.
Afua Asantewaa, an event organizer, concluded her Guinness World Record attempt to break the record for the longest individual singing marathon at 7:00 am on Friday, December 29, 2023.
She endured a five-day singing marathon that commenced at midnight at 12:00 am on Sunday, December 24, 2023, to surpass the 105 hours record set by Indian artist Sunil Waghmare in 2012.
At the time of ending her record attempt on Friday morning, she had sung for five days, six hours, and 55 minutes.
While addressing the public after her remarkable feat, Afua Asantewaa expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her, including those who showed up at the Akwaaba Village and those who could not.
“At a point, I kept asking which day it was, and I finally got to know that today is Friday. On behalf of my family, team, volunteers, the media, and Ghana Tourism Authority, I would like to say thank you to everyone who participated in this attempt; it has been a smooth journey and a very successful one,” she noted.
Later, during an after-party that held to celebrate her win at the Akwaaba Village, she was named a Tourism Ambassador by the Ghana Tourism Authority.

Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum, the Ghanaian women’s rights advocate, journalist, and event organizer, on Friday concluded her captivating singing marathon Guinness World Record attempt after an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes.
In a Facebook post on December 30, Mr Ablakwa noted that he is excited a courageous woman would step up to break a world record and in so doing, unite Ghanaians.
He wrote: “It’s such a great feeling when a fellow Ghanaian breaks a world record and sets her own record in the process — more so, when it’s a feat achieved by an exceptionally courageous woman from a relatively small country of 32 million people, breaking the Guiness World Record set by Sunil Waghmare, a man from a mighty 1.4billion populated India.
“The patriotic and unifying support from all Ghanaians regardless of artificial strictures must be highly commended. That is testament that when we come together, we are unstoppable and unbreakable.
“I wish Afua Asantewaa a successful reign — may she bring more glory to herself and our dear nation, and become an ambassador of great renown.”
While the verification process from Guinness World Record judges is still pending, Ghanaians are anxiously awaiting the official statement.
The suspense intensified when a Ghanaian named Abrantie Kwasi Gyamfi tagged the awarding body in a Facebook post, prompting them that Ghana is ready to join the ranks.
In response, Guinness World Records conveyed:
“Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are aware of Afua Aduonum’s feat, and we eagerly await the evidence to officially crown her as the world’s new individual singing marathon champion.”
“Hi Abrantie, we look forward to receiving evidence, this event certainly seems to have captured the public’s imagination.”
Below is Ablakwa’s congratulatory message.
Even though my attention has been focused on supervising the rapid construction of resettlement homes for my beloved displaced constituents, I wish to take a moment to congratulate the inspirational Afua Asantewaa Aduonum on her historic sing-a-thon journey.

The Lebanese Embassy in Ghana has clarified media reports that incorrectly identified the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Mr. Maher Kheir, as Sunil Waghmare, the Indian Guinness World Record holder.
H.E. Mr. Maher Kheir had visited the Akwaaba Village to offer significant support to Ghanaian entrepreneur Afua Asantewaa Aduonum during her record-breaking attempt.
The embassy emphasized the need for accurate reporting and clarified the misrepresentation in some media outlets.
In a statement issued on Friday, December 29, 2023, the Embassy said “Recent reports have mistakenly identified H.E Mr. Maher Kheir, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, as Mr. Sunil Waghmare, the Indian Guinness World Record holder. We would like to correct this error and confirm that Ambassador Kheir, due to the friendly relationship between the people of Lebanon and people of Ghana, attended the event at Akwaaba Village on Thursday, December 28th, 2023, in a gesture of support for Mrs. Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum’s recordbreaking attempt.”
His Excellency Mr. Maher Kheir also celebrated Afua Asantewaa for the successful completion of her attempt, describing it as a show of “dedication and perseverance”.
“His Excellency Mr. Maher Kheir extends his congratulations to Mrs. Aduonum on her official attempt of the current record. Her achievement serves as an inspiration, demonstrating the power of dedication and perseverance,” the Embassy added.
The Lebanese Embassy in Ghana has urged Ghanaian media houses to take notice of the correction and make the necessary rectifications regarding the misidentification of the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Mr. Maher Kheir, in media reports.
“We appreciate all Ghanaian media houses’ attention to this correction and look forward to continuing the strong relationship between Lebanon and Ghana,” the statement concluded.
In a momentous twist of fate, Afua Asantewaa has been appointed as the new Tourism Ambassador for Ghana.
This announcement, made on December 29, 2023, signifies a pivotal chapter in Afua’s journey and holds the promise of making a substantial contribution to the promotion of Ghana’s vibrant tourism industry.
Afua Asantewaa’s remarkable sing-a-thon attempt to break the Guinness World Record concluded in a breathtaking five-day spectacle, creating eager anticipation for the official verification from Guinness World Records. Afua, fueled by incredible determination, not only achieved her record-breaking feat but also captured the hearts of every Ghanaian.
The event received overwhelming support, attracting a constellation of celebrities who stood behind Afua throughout her musical journey. The presence of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia added an extra layer of significance, highlighting the unity and national pride associated with this extraordinary accomplishment.
As the nation eagerly awaits the official confirmation from Guinness World Records, Afua Asantewaa’s narrative unfolds, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of Ghanaians and setting the stage for a brighter, stronger future for Ghana.
From December 24th to 27th, 2023, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum embarked on breaking the record for the longest individual singing marathon.
Ghanaians had mixed feelings, questioning her choice, but she persevered.
Ghana proudly announces that Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has unofficially surpassed the 105-hour record set by Sunil of India in 2012.
The endeavor posed challenges, including GHAMRO song verification, song selection, and vocal strain. Despite social media negativity and doubts about her stamina, Afua remained resilient.
Sing-a-thon rules included no song repetition within 4 hours, no visitors in her glass cage, and a 20-minute break after 4 hours of continuous singing. Afua bent some rules but stood firm.
Upon completion, she was moved to tears, overwhelmed by achieving a milestone she never imagined. The support from Ghanaians, including the vice president, IGP, and celebrities, deeply touched her.
While Ghanaians worldwide expressed happiness and support for Afua Asantewaa’s quest to achieve a Guinness World Record for Ghana, there were, as expected, some dissenting voices.
Certain well-known media personalities, considered knowledgeable about challenges of this nature and the necessary support, added a negative vibe to the Singathon challenge before, during, and after its successful conclusion.
This article delves into the top 5 celebrities who expressed prayers and hopes that Afua Asantewaa’s Singathon challenge would not see a successful culmination.
Rex Omar
A seasoned Ghanaian musician and the present chairman of the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO), faced a wave of criticism following his controversial remarks during an interview with Kafui Dey on Ghana Television.
In this interview, he claimed that his office had the power to discontinue the Singathon on grounds of copyright infringement.
He insisted that Afua Asantewaa and her team were required to provide a list of songs she intended to perform for her challenge.
This demand was met with disapproval from the supportive Ghanaian public. Subsequently, when Afua complied and submitted the playlist, Rex Omar controversially disclosed it to the public. He later issued an apology for this action.
Black Rasta
Black Rasta, a seasoned Ghanaian reggae and roots musician affiliated with Media General’s 3FM, has consistently opposed Afua Asantewaa’s aspirations from the very beginning. He expressed concerns, citing research suggesting potential health risks, asserting that attempting to go without sleep for over 100 hours could lead to disaster. Despite the controversy, Black Rasta has not issued an apology and continues to stand by his critical comments.
Zapp Mallet
Zapp Mallet, a prominent Ghanaian record producer and musician, faced backlash for his tweets during the Singathon session. The award-winning producer questioned the value of Afua Asantewaa’s efforts, suggesting she should stop and eat instead. Ignorant of the challenge’s rules, Mallet criticized Asantewaa’s song choices and performance. He later issued an apology after being educated about the event.
Kwasi Aboagye
Kwasi Aboagye, a controversial radio personality from Peace FM, a Despite Media radio station, is known for his tendency to generate trends through controversies. Aboagye faced social media backlash for making unfavorable remarks about Afua Asantewaa and her Singathon during his show. He advised Asantewaa to cease her efforts, pack up, and go home for more rehearsals, citing what he perceived as a poor voice. After receiving criticism from netizens for his comments, Aboagye promptly issued an apology.
As Afua Asantewaa wrapped up her sing-a-thon Guinness World Record attempt, news surfaced that Sunil Waghmare, the current Guinness World Record holder for the longest singing marathon, touched down in Ghana to support and congratulate Afua Asantewaa for unofficially breaking his record.
But reports and information from credible sources indicate that such a report is false. A video shows a man in glasses who has been misidentified as Sunil Waghmare.
The current sing-a-thon record holder, Sunil Waghmare (105 hours) traveled from India to witness Afua Asantewaa during her attempt to break his record. pic.twitter.com/RCGqcd3RxQ
The man in the video in question is the Lebanese ambassador to Ghana, Maher Kheir and not Sunil Waghmare, the current Guinness World record holder of Singa-thong.
Also, the former France Ambassador to Ghana, Anne-Sophie Avé, confirmed that the individual in the photo is indeed Maher Kheir.
We therefore advise that you ignore such publications.

“They have practiced a culture of supporting their own no matter what. Nigerian pastors support their own regardless but Ghana dierr, fooling saaaaaaa.
“Some, Ghanaian pastors behave even more bigger than God, full of tension, and hostilities, plotting to bring one another down is what is always on their mind. A big Nigerian prophet once asked me, Prof. Nigel, why are your people soo divisive? no love or best wishes for one another, I was like some of us will change the narrative,” he added.
