Former Deputy National Organiser of the NDC, Chief Biney, has officially ended his marriage to Afia Akoto.

He shared a video on Facebook showing him and some companions visiting a man believed to be Afia Akoto’s father. During the visit, he took back a bottle of Schnapp, a traditional symbol of marriage, which he had presented to her family during their wedding—formally marking the end of their union.

In the video’s caption, Chief Biney confirmed that his five-year marriage to Afia Akoto, a former Deputy CEO of MASLOC under the Akufo-Addo administration, was officially over.

He also expressed gratitude to God and his pastor, Apostle Selassie Addae, for accompanying him to his former in-laws to finalize the separation.

He wrote: “A Man’s heart plans his ways but God Almighty directs his steps. Where God guides, he provides. That journey 5 years ago has traditionally and officially ended successfully in Jesus’ name. Baba God, I am grateful for this day. Thank you Apostle Selasie Addae, Apostle Emmanuel Baidoo and all for the support.”

Chief Biney and Afia Akoto tied the knot in a big plush wedding in 2020, which was attended by prominent political figures and distinguished personalities in Ghana.

The couple’s wedding courted attention in the media space as they were important figures from the two rival political parties in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

However, a few years after their marriage, rumours circulated that Chief Biney and Afia Akoto were facing marital issues and that their union was on the verge of collapsing.

The rumours later turned out to be true in 2023 after Afia Akoto confirmed that she and Chief Biney had split while addressing some NPP supporters in the Okaikoi North constituency at a political event.

Background-wise, A Plus previously alleged that Afia Akoto had made advances towards Maxwell Mensah, husband of actress Nana Ama McBrown, claims that have sparked significant controversy and public interest.

  • I’m glad no one is blaming his wife – NPP’s Afia Akoto on John Kumah’s death

I’m glad no one is blaming his wife – NPP’s Afia Akoto on John Kumah’s death

Deputy Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Maame Afia Akoto, has expressed her grief over the passing of former Finance Minister John Kumah, in a unique manner.

Despite the sorrow caused by his death, she finds solace in the fact that Dr. Kumah’s unexpected demise has not led to any accusations against his wife, Apostle Lillian Kumah.

“I am thankful that they are not blaming the death on his wife. One reason I’m convinced it’s the doing of the Lord is because I know Lillian and I know how prayerful she is,” she said in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Friday.

She also noted that Dr. Kumah was known for his compassionate nature, extending his care and affection to everyone, including members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who have also been deeply affected by his passing.

“He loved his wife; he adored her. John loved everyone, even the opposition NDC, which was touched by his demise. It’s painful but who is to question God?” the NPP woman added.

The late John Kumah was married to Apostle Lillian Kumah and they had six children together.

  • NDC’s Chief Biney and NPP’s Afia Akoto divorced

NDC’s Chief Biney and NPP’s Afia Akoto divorced

Deputy communication director of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Afia Akoto, has revealed the dissolution of her marriage with Chief Hamilton Biney, the former deputy national organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The couple, members of opposing political parties, tied the knot in 2020 amid the political divide that characterizes Ghana’s elections.

Addressing NPP supporters in the Okaikwei North Constituency, where she is vying to become the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2024 general elections, Afia Akoto shared that her opponents initially sought to use her marriage with Chief Biney against her.

However, with the marriage now ended, she highlighted that opponents are resorting to fabricating false claims, including spreading misinformation about her intentions to dismiss the current party executives in the constituency.

“When I came at first, they were saying that how can we trust a person married to an NDC man, they didn’t know that the marriage had ended. After hearing that the marriage had ended, they are trying to find something different against me.

“They are always looking for something new against me but have you ever heard me saying something against them?” he quizzed in Twi.

Akoto, a former deputy CEO of MASLOC, added, “If I have been able to live with an NDC person, why can’t I live with my family, the NPP?… after trying so hard to use my marriage against me, they realised it did not exist, and now they are saying all kinds of things against me: ‘Afia is insulting us, Afia would sack the executive’. Oo!”.

She encouraged the NPP delegates in the constituency to dismiss the negative narratives circulating about her and to cast their votes in her favor during the party’s orphan constituency parliamentary primaries scheduled from December 2 to December 3, 2023.

Despite their differing political affiliations, the love between these two individuals led them to formalize their relationship, even though some individuals within their respective parties expressed disagreement with their union.

Their marriage garnered significant attention, sparking debates among the public. Some believed the couple might share confidential information about their respective political parties, while others held a contrary view.

In a vibrant traditional ceremony on February 12, 2020, Afia Akoto and her long-time boyfriend, Chief Hamilton Nixon Biney, who serves as the Deputy National Organiser for the NDC, officially tied the knot.

  • Afia Akoto number 3 on ballot paper for NPP Parliamentary primaries

Afia Akoto number 3 on ballot paper for NPP Parliamentary primaries

Maame Afia Akoto, an aspiring Member of Parliament for the Okaikwei North constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has selected the Number 3 slot on the ballot for the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary primaries on December 2, 2023.

Following the vetting process and subsequent balloting, the former Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) secured the Number 3 position on the ballot paper.

She was accompanied by numerous party supporters and sympathizers to the vetting grounds, which were held last Saturday at the NPP’s new Greater Accra Regional Office in Teshie.

In a post on her Facebook page on Sunday, she said, ‘’When you say a prayer, please say one for me too. I believe in servitude and have done so all my life. This is the time for me to do it better for my people in OKN…’’

According to her “I am not here for the camera, but to serve from a place of love for the voiceless, our children and struggling parents. Please pick up your phone and call the delegate you know in OKN to join the winning team and the selfless lady Afia Akoto. #3’’.

She added, “I am a woman of Prayer and understand the battle is not of man, but of God. Yes!!!! The Trinity God, the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (3) has again given me a token of his involvement’’.

Afia Akoto faces intense competition in the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Okaikwei North Constituency. Incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, currently serving her second term, is among the strong contenders in the battleground.

Notably, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, the incumbent MP for the Akropong Constituency in the Eastern Region, has chosen to contest in the Okaikwei North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region instead of Akropong. This decision stems from Sammi Awuku’s pursuit of the Akropong seat, leading to a shift in her electoral focus to Okaikwei North.
