Afro-dancehall sensation Stonebwoy has raised concerns about the escalating expenses of kidney dialysis treatments in hospitals, standing in solidarity with affected patients.

In response to a GHOne news report highlighting patients’ struggles to access dialysis at the Renal Unit of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital due to a sudden price surge, Stonebwoy has voiced his support for those grappling with the issue.

The GHOne report uncovered that patients were taken aback by the abrupt spike in dialysis fees from GH¢380 to GH¢491, leading many to forego essential treatments as they couldn’t afford the revised rate for their bi-weekly sessions.

These patients also expressed fears about the adverse health consequences of missing these vital sessions.

Addressing the situation, Stonebwoy has called on the Ministry of Health to intervene and explore options for subsidizing the costs to ease the burden on individuals battling kidney disease.

Taking to Twitter, he stated, “It never Easy… @mohgovgh. Please look inside this increment and let’s find ways to subsidize the cost of dialysis, if possible.”

The recent surge in dialysis costs has sparked alarm within the Renal Patients Association of Ghana, particularly as it follows their earlier objections to a cost increase earlier in the year.

According to research published in BMC Health Research Services, Ghana, with a population of 30.8 million, is home to approximately 15,400 individuals grappling with kidney failure, underscoring the urgency of addressing these affordability challenges.
