President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku faced criticism from some supporters at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium during the match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC on Sunday, February 18, 2023.
Despite Kumasi Asante Kotoko winning the match 2-1 and claiming the Kufuor Cup, the trophy presentation was marred by boos and jeers directed at Okraku.
The disapproval continued as he left the stadium.
Okraku’s administration, along with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has been under scrutiny following a large-scale demonstration on February 14, 2024.
Thousands of Ghanaian football enthusiasts marched in Accra, urging reforms in Ghanaian football to address its declining state.
The demonstrators presented a 15-point petition to Parliament, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ghana Football Association, demanding actions such as prompt payment of Black Queens’ bonuses, tax reductions for sports, and a reassessment of the national teams.
