Award-winning sports journalist Saddick Adams has uncovered startling details about the so-called Ghanaian paracycling team that has absconded in Norway.
According to Adams, the group is not the official paralympic team but a band of impersonators who managed to travel to Norway with the apparent intention of absconding.
In a social media post, Adams revealed, “First of all, the team in Norway is a FAKE Ghana Para Team. The names being mentioned as leaders are past executives of the committee.”
He further disclosed that there are approximately five separate fake teams masquerading as the official Ghana Para Team, despite lacking government recognition.
Adams shared his insights, drawing from his experience as a member of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the first Africa Para Games in Accra.
He noted, “Having worked as a member of LOC for the first Africa Para Games in Accra, I got an insight into the stark divisions and under dealings by especially some former executives of the Paralympic Committee.”
He highlighted the recurring issue of counterfeit teams exploiting travel opportunities meant for genuine para athletes.
Recalling a specific incident, Adams said, “When the original Ghana Amputee Team Football was preparing for the just ended Amputee AFCON in Egypt, there was also another team training for that same tournament. It had to take a court order to stop the fake team from emplaning to Egypt ahead of the official team.”
Adams emphasized this point, adding, “At the moment, athletes of the official Ghana Paralympic Team who have qualified for the upcoming Paralympic Games in Paris are already in France for their pre-competition camping.”
