Our win is something to be proud of – Black Stars coach Chris Hughton

During the previous AFCON held in Cameroon, the Black Stars, led by Milovan Rajevac, experienced an early exit from the tournament.

They managed to secure only one point in their group, with a loss to Morocco in their opening match, followed by a draw against Gabon, and ultimately suffering defeat against the Comoros.

“First and foremost, my experiences so far indicate that the level of African football has increased and if I am not mistaken, we actually finished top of our group.

“I think that is something to be proud of. It is always about development when you look at the squad; even when I came in ten new players had been introduced to the squad,” he said at the post-match.

The Black Stars beat C.A.R. 2-1 to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the Baba Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

Ghana came back from a goal down to secure the qualification, squeezing the vital result on a bad day.

The Black Stars ended the qualifiers unbeaten, amassing 12 points and finishing as winners of Group E.
Addressing reporters in the press room at the Baba Yara Stadium, Savoy left a warning, stating, “Your next AFCON will be like the last one.”

In the previous AFCON held in Cameroon, the Black Stars, under the management of Milovan Rajevac, were eliminated in the group stage.

They secured just one point in their group, suffering a loss to Morocco in their opening match followed by a draw against Gabon, and ultimately falling to a defeat against the Comoros.
