Nottingham Forest nears deal closure with Scotland striker Ché Adams

Nottingham Forest are reportedly close to securing the signing of Scotland striker Ché Adams, beating out competition from Wolves, according to a source who spoke to ESPN.

Adams is set to leave Southampton this summer, as his contract expires.

Last season, he netted 18 goals, including 16 in the Championship, helping Southampton secure their return to the Premier League by defeating Leeds United in the playoff final.

The 27-year-old is nearing an agreement to join Forest on a free transfer, despite strong interest from Wolves. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side managed to retain their Premier League status last season by finishing 17th, six points clear of relegation.

Forest also secured their survival despite a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Adams will add valuable top-flight experience to the City Ground, having spent four seasons in the Premier League with Southampton, where he scored 25 goals between 2019 and 2023 after a £15 million ($19m) move from Birmingham City. He also had a stint at Sheffield United.

Adams is set to represent Scotland at Euro 2024 this summer, having been named in Steve Clarke’s provisional squad. With injuries sidelining forwards Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak, Adams is expected to play a crucial role in Germany.

Since making his international debut in 2021, Adams has scored six goals in 30 appearances for Scotland, including a goal in the recent 2-0 win over Gibraltar.

Scotland will kick off their Euro campaign against hosts Germany on June 14.
