Nico Williams is likely to stay with Athletic Club

Athletic Club president Jon Uriarte expresses optimism that Nico Williams will remain with the club beyond the upcoming summer.

Despite interest from Aston Villa, Barcelona, and Liverpool, the 21-year-old winger has yet to agree to a contract extension with Athletic.

His current deal is set to expire at the end of the season.

“We are calm,” Uriarte told Diario AS. “We want an attractive project for Nico and other players, like Unai Gomez, who renewed his contract this week.

“We trust that Nico will find the project attractive and we believe that will be the case. His family is loyal to Athletic and it’s the best for his career. As for possible rumours, we have no idea.”

A youth product of Athletic, Williams broke into the first team in 2021.

He was part of Spain’s 2022 World Cup squad.
