When Mohamed Kudus, an Ajax star, scored his first free-kick goal against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday, he was overcome with joy.
The player honoured the late Black Stars winger who was reported dead on Saturday by unveiling a shirt with the words “RIP Atsu” as he celebrated the goal.
On the left side of a front three, Kudus started for his team in the Eredivisie match of Week 22 today.
Although Sparta Rotterdam will set up to upset the home team, Ajax had too much quality and run riot over the opponent at the end of the one-sided affair.
In the first half, Dusan Tadic scored in the 6th minute to give the hosts the lead. Later in the game, a strike from Kenneth Taylor doubled the advantage for Ajax before the break.
While Dusan Tadic would net a second in the 64th minute, Mohammed Kudus also got his name on the scoresheet via a direct free-kick with six minutes to end the game to seal a delightful 4-0 win for his team.
Coincidentally, Christian Atsu’s last goal before he passed was a direct free-kick.
