Kotoko did not forge Clottey’s ITC – George Kennedy

Former Asante Kotoko player and Board Member George Kennedy has shed light on the signing of striker Emmanuel Clottey by the Porcupines five years ago.

Clottey’s signing sparked a protracted legal tussle between the Porcupine Warriors and Esperance Sportive de Tunis which ended this year.

Different accounts were given about how the player was signed and the then Asante Kotoko management has been blamed for causing financial loss to the club.

“Emmanuel Clottey had problems in his stint with Esperance and during his loan spell in Dubai. Clottey appealed to Alhaji Lamin that he had return home (Ghana) after his club (Esperance) failed to give him a return ticket,”

“He was out of the four mandatory foreign players to be registered by the club and thus surplus to requirement,”

“He was not receiving his salaries from his parent club (Esperance) nor from the club, he was playing on loan in Dubai,”

He continued: “Based on that, he discussed with Alhaji Lamin he had the chance to quit the club (Esperance). Alhaji Lamin brought Clottey to Kumasi afterward,”

“I told the management I knew Clottey based on his playing days at Berekum Chelsea but cannot say much about him on his then-current form,”George Kennedy told Kumasi based Fox FM.
