Ghanaian midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp has lauded Crystal Palace’s victorious start to the Premier League season with a 1-0 triumph over Sheffield United on Saturday.
Fellow countryman Jordan Ayew played a pivotal role by providing the assist for Odsonne Édouard, who netted the sole goal shortly after halftime.
Following the match, Schlupp, who played the entire game, took to Instagram to express his satisfaction, stating, “A good win to start the new season.”
Despite maintaining control of possession and the considerable threat posed by Eberechi Eze, Crystal Palace found it challenging to truly test Wes Foderingham, Sheffield United’s goalkeeper.
Jordan Ayew appeared to have scored in the first half, but his header was disallowed due to being in an offside position.
Sheffield United held their ground effectively until just five minutes into the second half, when their defensive line was breached.
Ayew’s quick footwork earned him space on the right, allowing him to deliver a powerful ball across the goal, which Odsonne Édouard calmly converted.
Falling behind failed to ignite a response from Paul Heckingbottom’s team, as Crystal Palace continued to mount pressure.
Édouard found the net again, only for his effort to be invalidated for offside, while Jeffrey Schlupp forced Wes Foderingham into making an impressive save.
Rather than merely safeguarding their narrow one-goal lead, Crystal Palace maintained a firm grip on possession to thwart any attempts by the hosts.
Osula had a chance for Sheffield United but ended up shooting into the side-netting, leaving them unable to break through as Crystal Palace held on to secure the victory.
