Premier League referee David Coote has been suspended following a viral video in which he expressed hostility and prejudice towards Liverpool and former manager Jurgen Klopp.
In the video, Coote was heard using offensive language against Klopp and the Liverpool team.
Professional Game Match Officials Ltd. (PGMOL) issued a statement on Monday, November 11, confirming Coote’s suspension and announcing an ongoing investigation.
“David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete.”
According to UK outlet The Times, the investigation’s outcome could potentially end the career of 42-year-old referee David Coote.
The situation has prompted Liverpool fans to scrutinise his past decisions, highlighting questionable calls he made in previous games involving their team.
Coote, a FIFA-listed referee, began his professional officiating career in 2010 in England’s National League division. He was promoted to the Championship later that year, where he spent eight years before advancing to the Premier League.
In 2022, he earned his FIFA listing, and in 2023, he officiated the English Football League Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle United.
