Future of Otto Addo to be decided at next Executive Council Meeting

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has announced that the Executive Council will decide Otto Addo’s future in their upcoming meeting.

The 49-year-old coach is under pressure after failing to qualify the Black Stars for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), ending a 20-year streak of participation in the tournament.

Ghana’s performance in the qualifiers was disappointing, with three losses and three draws in six matches, leaving them at the bottom of Group F with only three points. In 2024, the team managed just two wins out of 10 games.

Calls for Addo’s removal have been growing following this poor performance.

While Addo has submitted his technical report to the Executive Council, Asante Twum clarified that no final decision has been made yet.

“To be honest, the very day Otto Addo presented his report, the Executive Council held about a seven-hour meeting, and all the members of the Council, except Kwesi Appiah, made their views known,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“The areas of concern, including player management, tactics, and call-ups, were all discussed, but I cannot read the body language of everybody and say they want him [Otto Addo] to stay or go. What I know is that there was no decision made.”

“What I know is that a decision will be made at the next Executive Council meeting,” he added.

Addo, who took over from Chris Hughton, was reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract with a two-year extension option.
