Ghanaian winger Fatawu Issahaku is poised to step into Premier League action next season as Leicester City has decided to make his loan deal permanent.
The Foxes have chosen to exercise the €17m buy option specified in the loan agreement with Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.
This news was confirmed by Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, who remarked, “We will profit. Skilled players [such as Fatawu Issahaku] who struggle to adapt here will move on to other clubs and bring us added value; it’s part of our system.”
Issahaku faced challenges at Sporting after moving from his hometown club, Steadfast FC, in April 2022. Despite signing a five-year contract with a release clause of €60 million, he found it difficult to break into the first team, prompting him to seek opportunities elsewhere.
In August 2023, Issahaku joined Championship side Leicester City on a season-long loan. Despite doubts about his adaptation to the demands of the championship, the winger excelled.
Recently, he was named Leicester City’s Young Player of the Season, demonstrating his talent by scoring six goals and providing 13 assists, a significant contribution to the Foxes’ promotion to the Premier League.
With his sights now set on the upcoming season, Issahaku eagerly anticipates his Premier League debut, a well-deserved reward for his commitment and performance.
Meanwhile, Steadfast FC stands to benefit from Issahaku’s permanent move to Leicester City.
