Former Wolfsburg director Jorg Schmadtke has admitted with conviction that he made a significant error by selling Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who has since emerged as one of the top strikers in the world.
Back in 2018, Schmadtke decided to offload Osimhen to Belgian club Sporting Charleroi after the player scored no goals despite featuring in 14 matches.
Osimhen’s underwhelming performances during his time at Wolfsburg prompted the club to part ways with him. However, Schmadtke now recognizes the mistake he made, seeing how the Super Eagles star has flourished into an exceptional talent.
And at Sporting Charleroi, Osimhen scored 12 goals before moving to Lille in 2019.
It was in the French Ligue 1 that the Nigerian striker found his rhythm scoring 13 goals in 27 games which caught the attention of those in charge at Napoli.
According to the reports on Complete Sports and Mirror, Jorg Schmadtke explained that he should have given Osimhen some time.
Jorge Schmadtke regrets selling Osimhen
“It wasn’t a good move, in hindsight. When I came, Osimhen was limping and running in circles.
“I was told that the strikers we had weren’t good enough. The most important lesson is that you have to be patient with some transfers.”
Meanwhile, Jorg Schmadtke is expected to be appointed as Liverpool’s new sporting director.
