Cole Palmer’s impressive season with Chelsea continued as his goal helped secure a crucial win against Brighton in the Premier League, boosting their hopes for European qualification.
Palmer scored his 22nd league goal of the season, heading in Marc Cucurella’s cross in the 34th minute to put Chelsea ahead. The visitors doubled their lead in the second half when Christopher Nkunku calmly finished Malo Gusto’s assist.
Despite their dominance, Chelsea faced a setback when Reece James, making only his second appearance in 2024 after returning from injury, was sent off for a kick on Joao Pedro, giving Brighton a chance to get back into the game.
In the 97th minute, Danny Welbeck scored for Brighton, tapping in a Pedro cross to reduce the deficit. However, Chelsea held on for the win.
With this victory, Chelsea moved up to sixth in the table, securing a Europa League spot. They will ensure European qualification next season with a draw against Bournemouth on the final day.
Brighton, on the other hand, suffered their seventh defeat in nine matches but remain in 10th place in the league standings.
