The team manager of Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, Ameenu Shadow, has stated that the team would have performed better had Otto Addo remained as the head coach.
Otto Addo, who also serves as an assistant coach for Borussia Dortmund, stepped down from his position following Ghana’s elimination at the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Shadow stated that Addo had made errors during the tournament held in November and December 2022 but believed that he would have learned from those mistakes and made the necessary corrections to enhance the team’s competitiveness.
“We would have been better if Otto Addo stayed as Black Stars coach. I have always said it that Otto Addo made mistakes at the World Cup because he hadn’t been there before.
“Otto Addo is someone who learns on the job and Ghana would have been better if he had continued with his job as Black Stars head coach”, he told 3Sports.
Following Otto Addo’s departure, Chris Hughton has taken the reins as the head coach of the Black Stars.
Previously serving as a technical advisor during the World Cup, Hughton has guided the team to one victory and two draws since assuming the role in March 2023.
The team’s performance has been commendable under Hughton‘s leadership.
