Benjamin Mendy wept after being acquitted of all rape charges

Former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy, was overcome with emotion as he was declared not guilty of all rape charges during a retrial on July 14, 2023.

According to reports from the British Media, a jury consisting of six men and six women at Chester Crown Court deliberated for three hours before reaching the verdict.

Mendy was acquitted of the two remaining counts of rape, one allegedly occurring in October 2018 and the other in October 2020.

In his initial trial in September 2022, he had been cleared of eight counts but the jury had been unable to reach a unanimous decision on the other two rape charges, leading to the retrial.

The 28-year-old has now been cleared of all the charges after three years since his first arrest.

Benjamin Mendy was released by Manchester City after his contract ended in June 2023 after he was suspended after his arrest in 2021.
