Being strict on club licensing rules may destroy Ghana football- MND Jawula

Chairman for the Ghana Premier League Board, Alhaji MND Jawula has advised against the use of strict measures in getting clubs to follow the rules put in place by the Ghana Football Association’s Club Licensing Board.

The Club Licensing Board headed by Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh was keen on getting all the 18 Premier League clubs to meet at least half of the rules before the commencement of the 2019/20 season which has been halted by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Emmanuel Dasoberi, the Secretary of the board, several weeks ago disclosed to GhanaWeb that only International Allies FC who were able to meet all the requirements of the board before the start of the league.

Alhaji MND Jawula, who was formerly the Chairman of the Ghana Football Association in an interview with ‘Beyond The Pitch’ which airs every Wednesday at 2 pm on GTV sports+ said pushing the rules too much may deter people from the game as they invest with their own incomes.

“I have been of the view that if we push too hard, we shall destroy football. This is because Ghana is not lucky, we don’t have sponsorships as other countries have.”

“In most of these countries, it’s about sponsorships, you get a lot of companies who come on board and pay players to the extent that they will be comfortable but in Ghana people don’t have that much and it seems the concept of investing in football is not in the books of the companies.”

“So if we want to get the best stadia, the best salary structure for players, it will take some time and if you insist on it, you are not likely to get people who will not show interest in football again because people use their own income to invest in football.” he told ‘Beyond The Pitch’.
