Following an impressive breakthrough season in 2022/23, Barcelona has moved swiftly to secure the future of one of their youth talents.
Alejandro Balde has committed his future to FC Barcelona by agreeing to a new contract that binds him to the club until June 2028.
The 19-year-old left-back’s fresh contract includes a staggering release clause of €1 billion.
Balde, who has quickly risen to prominence, is set to formally sign the contract during a presentation scheduled for Thursday, where he will be joined by club president Joan Laporta.
As per a club announcement, this event will take place at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and is scheduled to commence at 13:15 (CEST).
How has Balde done at Barca?
The young talent began featuring in competitive matches for Barcelona’s senior squad in the 2021/22 season, making his debut against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in 2021.
In recent seasons, Balde has consistently improved and established himself as the first-choice left-back in the 2022/23 season, ahead of seasoned veterans like Jordi Alba and Marcos Alonso.
Balde’s fresh contract stands as a testament to his remarkable ascent through the ranks at Barcelona. After joining the club’s youth academy in 2011, he made swift progress to reach the first team.
In total, Balde has accumulated 55 appearances for the Barcelona first team, contributing one goal and six assists. His performances have earned him praise from both fans and experts, and this new contract reflects the club’s confidence in his potential.
